did you guys really expect Gbemisola Saraki to win? fight between father and son

The fight was really between Belgore the upstart and Fatah

if ACN try hard enough they might get some more rep seat through the courts, the first round of elections were rigged in some areas where acn could have easily won

Senior Saraki is about to be confined to his house, he is probably on his last few miles he'd better take a back seat and Gbemi better reconcile to get any sort of job after the elections
Politics › Re: Uptil Now; No Imam Not Even One! by DisGuy: 3:27pm On Apr 27, 2011
another of those dumb threads

Someone on another thread actually asked why NL Muslims haven't opened a thread to condemn rioting  undecided

i mean someone in Enugu will say how come Muslims don't do this, how come no one has come out to condemn this or say that
I think imams and Muslims should buy a share of media houses based in Lagos so they can get their message delivered to your front rooms on a daily basis, instead of always coming to ignorant conclusions!

I wonder what these fools will be like working with in a place like Lagos with all these ignorant comments you make about other tribes and religion

AjanleKoko:
I say again, tell me the bank that gave money to the guys at Ladipo. Don't just make assumptions, go to Ladipo and ask them how they did it. Same as Computer Village. Go ask them how they started it.

You need to understand the country in which you live, before you can successfully do business here. Most of you, even the ones who live in Nigeria, are too bogged down with the day to day issues that you can't focus on understanding the environment. You need to forget those issues and roll up your sleeves. The educated youth in Nigeria is lazy and expects everything to be handed to him/her. Sorry oh.

Take it from me, there is no white horse out there. Doing business in Nigeria involves a lot of hard work, understanding the people, terrain, and the dynamics of whatever business you're in. And contrary to what people think, it's almost impossible for a fresh school leaver to start up a business, for the simple reason that the person usually doesn't know squat about anything. When you don't know, and you want to do, better go and learn. Get busy doing, and stop talking or complaining. That's just the advice I have for people who want to achieve.

I'll tell you something. I live in Nigeria, and I've set up or invested in a few businesses, while still holding down a private sector job. I have absolutely no idea how business is run in the West, and don't really care to know, cos I don't live there. Nigeria is Nigeria. Yes, we don't have the kind of government that is in the west, but, hey, we have to survive out here. I certainly want my life to count for something, and don't want to spend my days complaining about successive governments. Life is too darned short.
or perhaps the challenges/obstacles are way too much for most new starters, but then again i have a feeling you will say those challenges are meant to be overcome, i mean even in regulated 'easy' west one in every five start up fail within the first few years talk less of a very difficult environment like Nigeria/Africa, you appear to be saying the only main reason why people are not doing well or not starting at all is because they are lazy and very risk averse ?

@ KNOW ALL,
You re kiddin me,  Lagos is  by far cheaper than Abuja, houses around my office are sold for N950 million, Ni.3 billion, infact the least you could get in Asokoro is around N600 to 750 million. So by comparison, Lagos is far cheaper than Abuja.
Am sure no diaspora can afford house in Abuja, except such is part of the looting elites
But at least you get some sort of security, better roads and perhaps closer to your political connect if you have that kinda money to play around
you can actually decide to take long walks in the evening or during the weekend

I bet the weird guy will probably be happy he won Daniel's candidate just to save face, bye bye t to rubbish

Now we need a fast train linking Lagos-Ogun state with option for an extension

The only way this lame duck of a president can perform is to have very strong opposition hounding him up and down the country

The whole of the SW has fallen to the ACN and a substantial part of the North is going to CPC, they are already planning mago mago here under the guise of state of emergency and 24 curfew something they didnt think of before the elections they want to hold on to Sambo's Kaduna and Yaradua's in-laws Bauchi

[size=15pt]Africans can create hugely successful tech products that will sweep the world off its feet. There are several entrepreneurs out there waiting to break through, but their ideas might never see the light of day because of a lack of seed finance. This is the reason Africa might never produce a Facebook, Groupon, Zynga or Google: There are no venture capital firms in Africa to fund these ventures. It’s unfortunate. And even if, by any little chance they actually do exist, they possess a flagrant disregard for technology and the very crucial role it is going to play in the future. As a result, they are unwilling to fund this sector and give it the acknowledgement it deserves.

Africa is undergoing a technology renaissance. More than ever before, the population is becoming more technologically-inclined, more web-dependent. With the right financing, our entrepreneurs can put Africa on the global map of technological innovation.

But until its financiers and the self-proclaimed ‘venture capitalists’ are easily accessible and listen to these entrepreneurs, Africa may never have its own answers to such internationally famed corporations like Google, Facebook, Zynga and the rest of them. Africa needs several Y Combinator-type firms who will believe in and support the dreams of entrepreneurs and get those big ideas out of the boxes and into the pages of history. Africa’s techies are equally as smart, gifted and visionary and if supported can transform big ideas into money-making, world-class companies that’ll change the world.

So, will the venture capitalists please stand up?

Politics › Re: Why Does Nigeria Lack Creative Entrepreneurs by DisGuy: 4:33pm On Apr 26, 2011
But as I read the article, I could not help but ask myself the pertinent yet habitually unanswered question: What about Africa? Why hasn’t a globally-renown, groundbreaking software, social network or mobile application ever emerged from the continent?

From my experiences, I have discovered that Africa equally has its own plethora of techies with earth-shaking ideas, rock-solid business plans and the commercial know-how required to transform a concept into a world-class business concern. There is no shortage of capacity. Africa has some extremely intelligent techpreneurs. Last year, a Kenyan mobile software developer and entrepreneur, John Waibochi, beat several other software developers from the U.S, Canada and India to win the Nokia Innovation Challenge Award. It came with $1 million in prize money. Today, his company, VirtualCity develops pioneering mobile software that’s extremely successful in East African markets. Then there is Mark Shuttleworth, a maverick South African Internet tycoon who founded Thawte, a web security and certificate authority company. Thawte became so successful that it was snapped up by VeriSign (VRSN) for $575 million.

There is also Ory Okolloh, a remarkable Kenyan lady who founded Ushahidi, a hugely popular company that develops open source software for information collection. She recently left Ushahidi to take a job as Google’s Policy Manager for Africa.

Last December in South Africa, I met a remarkable young lady who has developed a voice-based mobile application which helps farmers track the oestrus stages of their cows. It’s amazing. She’s been looking to raise capital to commercialize her invention, and there’s definitely a market for her product, but there are no venture capitalists willing to gamble on her idea.

Investigations by THISDAY revealed that those who designed the roadmap are not involved in the execution of the power projects and the controversy surrounding the suspension of the NIPPs by late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s administration for over two years had also affected the plans by the present administration to revive the projects.
How, were they part of the cabal removed over two years ago? You launch a new Roadmap with new projections in November/December 2010, you now blame you failures on previous administrations which you were part of huh

sartorius:
Am not an agent of deceit, what i know is that major work is goin on in the sector and power seems to have improved a bit.
We wasted two years probing the project and another 6mnths probing the probe comitee, that wasnt progress,

Technology Market › Re: A Word Of Advice To Sellers On Nairaland by DisGuy: 12:04am On Apr 26, 2011
My advice to other sellers on this forum, pls dont be in rush in selling that precious item you got with your hard earned money. Bank transaction is always safer, dont meet any intended buyer in the night, poorly lit place. Make sure you have something about the buyer to hold onto other than their phone number. This saying is always right "If that money is yours it is yours and if the item is the buyer's it is theirs".

Thanks for reading.
Bless
Excellent advice, bank transactions are safer, or mobile money, it's about time Nigerian do away with cash transactions and embrace electronic payments or internet banking

even if the cash is real you might be attacked later on!

THE PROBLEM HERE IS NOT GEJ AND SECURITY.

ALL THESE THINGS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SOME YEARS BACK. THESE IDIOTS DERIVES JOY IN KILLING OTHER TRIBES.

EVER SINCE I WAS BORNE  I VE BEEN HEARING ABOUT THESE KILLINGS IN SOME PART OF THE  NOTHERN STATES. ESPECIALLY KANO AND OTHERS.
THE PEOPLE I BELIEVE WILL HELP TO SOLVE THESE PROBLEMS ARE THE PASTORS, IMAMS, CHIEFS, EMIRS, SULTAN ETC
BECAUSE THEY HAVE A GREATER  INFLUENCE ON THEIR VARIOUS ENVIRONMENT.
Absolute rubbish, the influence of the Emirs and Sultan has always been over exaggerated, the only people they have a bit of influence on is the state government and FG esp when it comes to collecting their allowance of getting employment for their kids

THE PROBLEM HERE IS THE COMMANDER IN CHIEF AND SECURITY

THE PASTORS dont have control over anything, same with the imam that just theory, the person in charge is jonathan and his funny hat it might just be blocking his view or restricting his brain cells!
