Bayelsa United players barricade Government House, over unpaid wages Bayelsa players barricade Govt House, over unpaid wages
Posted: 2011-05-10 06:58
Players of former league champions Bayelsa United staged a peaceful march to the Government House in Yenagoa to demand payment of outstanding wages dating over two years.
The players have been on strike for the past week and last weekend, boycotted their State FA Cup final against rivals Ocean Boys in protest at their unpaid emoluments.
On Monday, they took their protest a step further by barricading the entrance to Government House in Yenagoa where they demanded audience with the governor.
Among their grievances are unpaid sign-on fees for the past two seasons, plus 58 match bonuses for the same period, including their continental exertions.
Defender Jerome Ezoba told KickOffNigeria.com that the players could no longer stomach the injustice "Personally, I am owed nearly nine million naira," he said. "How are we expected to live? Even the player who died while playing for us, his family have not been given anything, and nothing has been given to the family of Emma Ogoli who went to Ocean Boys where he also died.
"They are both being owed a lot of money."
Goalkeeper Emmanuel Fabiyi described the situation as inhuman.
“We are here at the Government House to protest the inhuman treatment given to us. For almost four seasons, no payment of sign-off fees and we are being owed over 50 match bonuses. The management has not helped our matter at all,” Fabiyi said. With all the oyel money, their government cant be bothered to pay wages, it's not like people live in the state, na only 500,000 people live there and half of them are politicians living in abuja |

Days after announcing May 7 as the resumption date of the Nigeria Premier League, officials have again announced a change.
Instead of May 7, the domestic campaign will now kick off four days later, on May 11.
"The NFF wrote to us to request a change to accommodate the State Federation Cup finals," Acting Executive Secretary Tunji Babalola says. |

The Lagos State Government has indicated that the turning of the sod on the Lekki International Airport will hold before the end of year 2012.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Commerce and Industry, Sola Oworu, stated this during a press conference. Explaining that the project will be undertaken as a joint venture under the Private- Public Sector Partnership, Oworu stated that the financing of the project is being worked out as a prelude to soliciting for an expression of interest.
"It is expected that this could be put together within 12-18 months maximum," she said. "After which we expect to see the turning of the sod on the project." She said as a commercially viable proposition, the role of the state government will be to create the enabling environment for the take off of the project while private funding will execute it.
The airport is estimated to cost $650 million and designed to handle 5 million passengers annually, as has been approved by the Federal Ministry of Aviation with the topographical and geo-technical survey being undertaken. |

A decision to form the commission was taken at a meeting of the national caucus meeting of the ACN in Abuja on May 1. SWERDCO will perform functions similar to those of Oduduwa Investments Company Limited, a conglomerate that oversees the investments of the old Western Region inherited by all south-west states except Lagos.
However, unlike Oduduwa, a source close to the meeting said SWERDCO would not dabble into investment initiatives that would incur debts for member-states.
Rather, it will focus on stimulating development initiatives for the collective good of the region and its people. According to the source, the meeting which began on May 1 ran into the early hours of May 2, during which the party leaders and governors discussed the need for regional integration that would provoke vast and even development across the region.
He said all the governors elected on the platform of the party and other national members of the party, including its chairman, Chief Bisi Akande and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, attended the meeting.
He said the governors bought into the idea and agreed to work on the establishment of the commission after their inauguration on May 29.
Also in attendance at the meeting was the presidential candidate of the party in the just concluded presidential election, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu. At the meeting, Ribadu informed party members of his intention to take up his UN job on anti-corruption in Afghanistan. He bade the party goodbye and sort their permission to return to his UN job, which he held before returning to the country to run for the presidency.
He expressed satisfaction that the leadership of the party stood by him during the election and thanked them for their support. Among the foremost tasks to be performed by the commission will be in the area of infrastructure development, including railway and road construction, and agriculture services to increase food production and facilitate the establishment of agro-allied industries.
Others areas will be in the area of commercial and social services such as provision of potable water, specialist hospitals, independent power projects, and ensuring the judicious utilisation of water under the control of the river basin authorities in the region.
THISDAY gathered that an initial position paper on the development initiative was put together by a team comprising some former commissioners in Tinubu’s cabinet, bankers and some Nigerians in Diaspora. Thisday |

Nobody in the right mind will hate doctors doesnt make sense! I really respect doctors but some nigerian doctors to me are in the same league with the nigerian police! yea the medical council has strong disciplinary committee that looks well and proper on paper but almost as useless as the nigerian police when it comes to actually getting result if anything they do the same thing as people do in here, gather round to protect their own and turn around to accuse you of spoiling someones reputation very similiar to what the nigerian police does, just transfer the erring police to another command!
quack doctors will always get deregatory remarks from me, i've personal family experience so i know how these rogues are spoiling the name of doctors all over the country, having a website is not enough

Second, i think it's very shallow and unintelligent of you to think "who reads this review before visiting these clinics" attached below is what came out of a Google search using the phrase "My dad's doctor". The phrase is meant to be general and vague and from over 4.1 million results, this thread came tops, the same thread where people are asking for the name and date of birth of a doctor.
How many people do you suppose would visit "Ayanfunmi" for consultations after visiting this thread? Never mind that it matters not that the doctor's name had not yet been revealed. yea of course you would google, 'ayanfunmi', the question is how many people in ibadan, lagos etc will read the review of these lil hospitals managed by lil gods the real reputation of the hospital will determine whether people visit or not jaephoenix: @olumde Come,i wasn't talking 2 your lying behind .i wan t Outstrip 2 clarify her statement before i reply her. Lemo, however, pointed out that the limit was not total as those who wished to withdraw more than the stipulated amount could do so, but for a fee.
He said, “There is no way we can run an efficient economy if we don’t develop e-Payment transactions. We spend billions of naira every year on cash printing. In fact, we spent over N34bn printing cash last year. We can’t continue to incur such costs. “Banks also spend too much time processing cash. This makes them to focus more on minor functions at the expense of major ones. Banking is not about processing cash. Let them do proper intermediation by ensuring that the bulk of their transactions are more efficient and cost-effective.”
He disclosed that the apex bank had already put in place measures to match the ATM deployment of Mexico by deploying over 100,000 Point of Sales terminals by 2012.
“By 2015, we hope to be where Brazil is by deploying additional 350,000 PoS terminals. Remember that we are also making it biometric so that everyone, including those who cannot read and write, will be covered,” he added.
The deputy governor, however, noted that the CBN was only announcing a policy that would start next year, adding that “you have to guide and manage the industry such that the needed infrastructure will be put in place to ensure a smooth take-off.”
He said that the CBN, in collaboration with the banks, had set up a committee to ensure error-free, end-to-end e-Payment transactions. Punch |

PhysicsMHD: More of the so-called grasslands/grazing areas in Sokoto:
How can raising livestock be a major occupation in a state when your land looks like it's in a state of permanent drought? they have rainy season and dry season, those pictures dont tell the complete story, there have vast amount of land, check the map and some states have little dams and rivers, some cattle move according to the weather but sometimes they just stay put and make do Most agricultural products still come from the North or middle belt, i'm sure they know their trade, some cows cant get 'fatter' than what you see in the pictures maybe a bit more flesh but thats how are. like snoop dogg Thats why the farm in Kwara imported cows from South Africa to cross breed them with local cows |

port1976: Good job,
My prayer and hope is that he will not drop the standard in his second term in office. This guy philosophy is social welfarism, which is distinct from Fashola capitlist-welfarism. Both of them are the stars of the Nigeria democracy. Two goods guys with different approach to solve infrastructure rot in Nigeria. My only worry is what Rotimi Amachei is doing in PDP? Well your philosophy will change depending on the kind of money you have, Rivers is getting huge money coming in for a couple of million people, Lagos is making its own money to provide for infrastructure Rivers should be able to pay its civil servants 30,000 minimum wage even Saudi arabia can afford to pay its citizen monthly wages without working, Scotland cannot |

So it's safe to say all those people that come on Nairaland to complain about their banks are fraudsters that wont pay their charges or are looking to get some extra cash or really want to spoil the banks reputation, how exactly are we to hear the other side of the story?
If the guy has a good reputation he will continue getting customers if not good for him, we don't have a well publicized reporting mechanism for these quack doctors; these so called 'professionals' get away with murder!, if they are not denying accident victims treatment they are busy stuffing you with useless fancy drugs
nobody wakes up just to complain about a doctor online of all places, it's not like people read their review before visiting these clinics |

Fitch said the ratings reflect Kwara State good budgetary performance and growing investment in infrastructure to develop the local economy. The ratings also take into account the state’s prudent budget management, which together with gradually increasing tax autonomy is set to help the state to mitigate decline in revenue accruing to it from the Federal allocation, due to decline in crude oil prices. the success of this dude lies solely on the people 'they' put in his team or else he'll be the only superstar with foot dragging agbada wearing career politicians, it would help if he has more lagos based professionals coming in with new ideas or people from the private sector Bukola will be busy on the national stage, i don't see him swatting the old brigade like Tinubu did, but you just never know |
