Now Nigerian airlines can invest more in making safety the ultimate goal (no more Mutallab). This is good. Now is the time for Nigerian airways to be back with modern equipments!!
You mean Nigerian Airways went out of business because of USA route?

Now its time to buy loads of planes from american manufacturers, appoint many american consultants, buy more security equipment by american sellers, i heard many other serious countries still dont have cat1 for the US

Anyway hope the fare goes don cos in Nigeria, the much touted 'market forces' is a big scam!!

@Poster

I have operated video game businesses a number of times in Lagos. From back in the sega mega drive/SNES days to PS2 and Xbox one. I don't know about the kind of crowd you pull over there in SA but down here in Nigeria, the kind of mature customers in that picture would have their own games at home and wouldn't pay to play anywhere. Also,Xbox pads aren't good for hard core commercial gaming. Most of the people who come around will abuse the pads because of the tiny pittance they paid to play (winnnch pipo grin grin cheesy). . .i am talking from experience and at one point, i was replacing pads at least one every week. If you intend to open a branch in Nigeria, then you need to focus on areas where rich kids reside e.g the types who have PS3 at home but are willing to go out to play for the fun of it. Ikoyi and Lekki readily come to mind. . .Abuja is also a good spot.

Best of luck.

NB : DO NOT CLOSE SHOP IN SA FOR ANY REASON! ! ! NIGERIA AIN'T ALL THAT.

End of!
Just wondering on this one, replacing pads that are readily available, or moving to an area where the phat kids already have games at home, what if they dont come out? its a case of getting loads of customers through the doors in areas like mentioned earlier replacing pads regularly or getting some customers in sometimes and keeping your games in tip top shape? hmmm

Politics › Fashola Signs Mortgage Bill Into Law by DisGuy(op): 5:54am On Aug 24, 2010
By Olasunkanmi Akoni
LAGOS—Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State yesterday signed into law the bill for a law establishing the state mortgage board aimed at making houses affordable to the masses.
Fashola, who also inaugurated members of the board at a brief ceremony at Lagos House, Ikeja, disclosed that plans were underway to ensure that efficient lowcost houses were made available for Lagos residents on a proposed mortgage policy, which would be unveiled next week.
The board is chaired by the state Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Rotimi Oyekan, with his colleague in the Ministry of Housing, Mr. Dele Onabokun, and three others as members.
According to Fashola, the passage of the law is a momentous achievement for the state because it will serve as the regulatory framework for the creation of enabling policy that will guide government and private sector in establishing mortgage schemes that will be beneficial to all residents.
Fashola, noted that with the new law, the Conveyance Act of 1881 had been repealed.
The governor added that the 119-year old law had always posed challenges to legal practitioners dealing with mortgage matters.
Fashola, who said details about the bank would be unveiled at a public forum in the next few days, noted that workers and residents of the state would be able to access facilities to build a home of their own.

Politics › Re: South Korea's Abandoned Airports: A Warning To Nigerian State Governors by DisGuy: 4:52am On Aug 24, 2010
Taraba (its a state in nigeria just in case) to build another one, after abandoning the one by the previous governor

Taraba State government said it has set aside N10 billion to construct an airport in Jalingo, the state capital. The airport will be built with a standard of 3.3 kilometre runway, Governor Danbaba Suntai said at the Nigerian College of Aviation technology (NCAT), Zaria.

Former Taraba state administration started an airport at the cost of N2.68 billion but the contractor handling the work stopped. Suntai said the government had surveyed a new piece of land for the airport project.

He said: "But having bought all the equipment and everything, I came to the conclusion that the assignment of an airport was beyond his capacity. So I called him and requested him to handover the airport and paid him off.

"I brought in PW to complete the airport. When they went and assessed the airport, they came up with a cost of almost N10 billion. So when they came up with this cost and I discovered that I could only just add a little to build a new airport; they told me they could not give me guarantee, even though they will do it."

He said the issue of guarantee worried him. "So, presently we have surveyed a new piece of land for a new airport", he said.

Commenting on the state's capacity to run an airport, governor Suntai said the federal government had shown interest in the project.

http://allafrica.com/stories/201008200159.html

there are some states in nigeria i consider 'useless' unnecessary they need to be converted into huge farms so we can make money exporting the products and feeding Africa the people can be moved to other states!

this governor that has a personal hobby to become a pilot has just signed state money to a new airport, you will notice he didnt even talk about traffic, customers or anything with regards to the viability, To be honest i think its about time Finance ministry, Aviation ministry and others start scrutinising what some state government are budgeting for, putting us in more debt with their useless fantasy!!

Travel › Re: Nigerian Airline Approved For Direct Us Flight by DisGuy(mod): 3:48am On Aug 24, 2010
I think the approval is in two stages, The country's law and aviation regulatory systems willfirst be evaluated, then airlines operating in/from that country will then apply

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) today announced that Nigeria has achieved a Category 1 rating under the FAA’s International Aviation Safety Assessment (IASA) program, which means that Nigeria complies with international safety standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). ICAO is the United Nations’ technical agency for aviation which establishes international standards and recommended practices for aircraft operations and maintenance.

The IASA Category 1 rating is based on the results of a July FAA review of Nigeria’s civil aviation authority. With the IASA Category 1 rating, Nigerian air carriers may now apply to operate to the United States with their own aircraft.

An IASA Category 1 rating means a country has the laws and regulations necessary to oversee air carriers in accordance with minimum international standards, and that its civil aviation authority – equivalent to the FAA for aviation safety matters – meets international standards for technical expertise, trained personnel, recordkeeping and inspection procedures.

As part of the FAA’s IASA program, the agency assesses the civil aviation authorities of all countries with air carriers that operate or might be authorized to fly to the United States and makes that information available to the public. The assessments determine whether or not foreign civil aviation authorities are meeting ICAO safety standards, not FAA regulations.

Arik got a special mention some days back so, i'm guessing they will soon get approved

its a good thing this government tenure is coming to an end, i was also getting worried that he might be able to convert it to his name considering the amount of effort/energy he used to drag most of this reluctant banks who cant stand long term projects that has to do with seasons. So considering the huge amount of funds from the banks and the current cbn process of shouting thief from the roftop i doubt this guy will want anymore trouble (SGBN) and this and similar projects seems to be getting positive brownie point for him so except he is extremely greedy or he catch the bankers/cbn slipping then he will just allow those guys do the work- this is their life, he has been able to bring many outsiders- he will probably be playing on the national scene after his stint
I don't think your question is inappropriate. If I read it correctly, then we will be seeing UHT milk products from WAMCO in the near future. You ask if Nigerians will appreciate UHT milk as opposed to dried milk. Many Nigerians have only known condensed or powdered milk, all their life. It may be that there are Nigerians who will prefer the flavor, appearance and taste of UHT milk. I think the introduction of UHT will give Nigerians a wider variety of products to choose from. It will also be a stern test of the true quality of the products in the market. Are they really that good, or are they being patronised because we have no better choices.

I think because our palate is already used to it, most Nigerians do not even realize that condensed milk has a caramelized (canned) taste that some people find disagreeable.
I hate those canned milk!! i cant stand them any more they taste like condensed chemicals!!

This is a welcome development, as the expectation is that anything reducing our dependence on imported food in Nigeria will ultimately lead to cheaper food on the average Nigerians table (And more money in the pocket). This is an area I'm very interested in, and which I have spent a lot of time thinking about. Obviously things are improving all over the country, and Governor Saraki is obviously positioning Kwara State to be the potential food basket of the nation. I respect his foresight. However, I have one small observation with regards to the feasibility of the dairy production business structure. If the plant is producing UHT milk, how valuable would this be to the average Nigerian (compared with dried milk), seeing that electricity in our country is erractic at its best? Will the average Nigerian be appreciate UHT (as it is not fresh) milk over dried milk? What are your views? In this thread (https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-209096.0.html) most people voted Peak milk as their choice over Cowbell. Where do people think UHT liquid milk (of whatever brand) will stand in this picture?
Fresh milk is mainly targeted as Industry- food processing companies, hotels and ice-cream/yoghurt making companies and fresh milk is used for WARA cheesy

Sorry for flooding, dis guy you are so senseless, what's wrong with a yoruba elder admonishing an igbo child?these movie makers according to pete are children and most of them are unitelligent ok?
Mumu, Money ritual is a social vice that can be perpetuated any where in nigeria. . And the duty of actors and movie makers is to expose these cankerworms in their movies,if you are too dump to know that.
Fool, ask anybody the legend don retire.olodo
ode why wont he retire, you think they can use him in a romantic new age nollywood movie or he is versatile enough to play anything other than a walking stikc carrying ritualistic baron?

Nothing is wrong with an elder admonishing a child but something is wrong with admonishing an actor that has been giving a script to act out by probably an IGBO director/producer/writer,researcher duhhh

if you want to make comment about other 'elder' actors you better come correct or look as foolish as this caveman, this is school boy error or perhaps he is just drunk on women piss

money ritual is a social vice but why is it that 98% of Pete Edochie's role involve killing women for money, someone that is so concerned about his culture yet grew fat on portraying his culture as money obsessed, status drunk, gun touting thugs for international audiences

“I lost my husband a few years ago and I have three children,” said Chidinma Michael. “My mother was sick and I spent all I had.” She said she approached a friend for help. Instead of giving her a loan, her friend showed her how to make ‘free money.’ “So that was how I started coming out to the street,” said Ms. Michael. “My children are now at home and have not eaten since yesterday when they arrested me.” She was eventually given automatic employment at the social development secretariat to assist in rehabilitating other sex workers.
Cough cough: my naija brain will flag up something with this bits!  now they are here; who goes first?

Mrs Ayileka accused the women of laziness. She cited a medical doctor who was arrested some time ago whose colleagues had to beg for her release because she was supposed be on call the next day.

“Some of them are graduates. A lot of them are working-class ladies,” she said. “There are lots they can do with little money instead of degrading themselves.” She said the FCT administration would rehabilitate those who are willing to change. At the skills centre in Lugbe, a suburb of the city, girls could choose from 10 different skills, including hairdressing, tailoring and computer studies. Upon completion of the course Mrs Ayileka said the girls would get equipment relevant to their fields of training.

However, though many of the girls filled out the application forms, the training is has not commenced.
