if this was part of a plan one would expect the game to be over proper!
the broadcasters should have been informed or atleats everyone should have been informed before the game
some sort of announcement on the screen saying what was happening
considering what happened in some part already with lights what do you honestly think the commentators will say?
if this was a PLAN the Refree wont run immediately

If you actually have a plan people wont be left guessing what's going on!!!
the rules are there for a reason 90+ is exactly that not 2seconds before!!!

The intention was good but the process is rubbish as usual nothing to do with patriotism at all !!!!

GNBohr:
Every society get what it derserves. If you want more from these media you need to contribute to their report. All the international news media you favoured get information and reports from ordinary people who are not in any way connected with journalism as a profession. How many Nigerians locally and in the diaspora contribute to their pool. It is true many of these newspapers do write junks and lies and assumptions as truths, and you may feel that you dont get what you are expecting, the reality is nobody is speaking or releasing infomation in Nigeria. Those who manages to do so either seeks for gratification, speaks half-truths or non thruths. Those in government have even signed to oaths of secrecy. So my people for the little you get, you should be grateful to get at all. Most thruths only comes out when there is crises in the polity or amongst the ruling elites. This is the only country where government is always planning, formulating, intending, proposing, thinking, strategising, preparing, seeking, trying, managing, talking, losing, hoping, parleying, discussing, wanting, wishing, articulating, gathering; but never act, do or achieve. So what we get is garbage in garbage out and we must eat the garbage. The truth is you need to read the papers to know about all these "ings".
Our Journalist can help by asking questions from these half truths, when a minister announce a contract asking the completion period and relaying that information to the people isnt too much to ask is it? at least then, the citizens themselves can inform the journalist when the roads, school etc are abandoned

and any politician seeking gratification should be exposed, these journalist should stop printing statement straight from the politicians copy and paste style, everything announce on nta the previous night is on the pages next day without explanation or indepth analysis

And teh journalist can do more than just news about politicians and contracts, what about ordinary people, questionable bank charges, industrial pollution etc,

Kudos to Next and Punch and thisday columnists- the only problem with thisday is that every day must contain a news story/picture of their big belly chairman and their weird looking website

thanks fellas. any more brighter ideas?!?!
more bus lane/routes

Ban people from selling on the roads

Build roads with pavement/walkways!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i still wonder why the award contract to engineers without walkways, that why pedestrains compete with cars on road

Increase road charges 100% in some areas, some people just drive for the fun of it! they can take public transport!

Restrict truck/trailers to specific routes
Politics › Re: Fg Awards N12.2b Contracts For Repair Of Lagos-benin Road by DisGuy: 1:34pm On Nov 10, 2009
Na wa o

one day the road is supposed to be privatised, next day it has been award to messers xyz next day another award

why cant this dumb journalist bring out his archive to see how many times the road has been awarded!

I even doubt this story sef cos i watched nta last night and the minister was there with mimiko talking to the engineers meaning the contract wasnt awarded recently seeing as tehy have done some section already!!!!

Embark on more local refining in a gradual manner and the subsidy will go down in the same manner. Do not do it in one day.
How do you mean? the govt should build more inefficient referineries with out money? the govt have been dilly-dallying with the subsidies assuming local investors will seize the opportunity to build some sort of referinery
but all they do is hold onto it looking to resell these licenses or perhaps tehy have been lazy as usual sourcing real funds needed for something that is not as simple as buying and selling oil

theres no soft landing in my view

2) You wean them gradually by substituting import with local refining capacity. It is defeatist and inefficient for you to import what you can produce and

by so doing, new business segments must germinate and these importers may now start looking outward- to export crude oil fractions and by products.
@ citizenY

The output of our local refineries operating at full capacity cannot meet local demand
Politics › Re: Deregulation Or No Deregulation? What's Your Take? by DisGuy: 2:29pm On Nov 09, 2009
1. Improves competition
I believe deregulating the industry will allow market forces to take over, and eventually drive down the price. This will only happen if our    government increases the level of importing licences, and allow these companies to compete like they are suppose to rather than letting them monopolize and control the industry.
In nigeria, you rarely get competitors, all you get is companies colluding to set a fixed price for products, leaving the buyers with little option, even in a regulated environment one will expect price to range from say 63.50-65naira
but they sell for the maximum N65

the problem with regulation still lies with our insincere govt, how are we to believe the N600b+ saving from deregulation will be well utilised for rail/road transport, better healthcare, improved funding for the education sector?

bollingjoe:
The govt should privatise the refinery and give license to those who wants to build refineries then we can stop the importation of fuel.
Do you know what happened last time the refineries were going to be privatised?
cries everywhere of cronies blah blah blah, privatisation in Nigeria is a big problem especially
with selfish uneducated labour leaders around looking for popularity votes, if the govt privatise the
refineries they will be accused of selling national assets however inefficient those assest are!

Licenses have been sold and not a single refinery is up, many states signed empty MoU with
empty companies abroad with nothing but to show for it
I think building and running a refinery is too complex for Nigerian businessmen they rather buy and sell-much simpler that way

In the same vein, the CBN has ordered the country's banks to report suspicious cash transactions from people involved in politics.

According to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) regulations,[if you want to copy and paste atleast do it properly-bbc regulations?] published on the CBN website, now require banks to report large movements of cash between accounts if one of them belongs to a "politically exposed person".

These are defined as former heads of state, politicians, local council chairmen, court officials, soldiers and members of royal families.

Many "politically exposed people" are major shareholders or directors in Nigeria's banks.

Under the regulations, the identity of anyone making a transaction above N250,000 ($1,651, £1,013) must be checked.

The CBN has a list of "red flag" suspicious transactions that it says should trigger investigations.

But a BBC reporter in Nigeria says the people behind corruption and money-laundering in the country will already be working out ways around the regulations.
Guardian NGR 4/11/09

Imagine a nigerian newspaper quoting the BBC on a story that has to do with Nigeria, this is not the first time
funny this is, the BBC got it from the CBN's website, why quote the bbc when you could have also gone to the source to get the same story and even ask for their spokesmen to get detailed information!

Nigeria's central bank has ordered the country's banking sector to report suspicious cash transactions from people involved in politics.
The regulations, published on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) website, now require banks to report large movements of cash between accounts if one of them belongs to a "Politically Exposed Person".
These are defined as former heads of state, politicians, local government chairmen, court officials, soldiers and members of royal families.

Many "Politically Exposed People" are major shareholders or directors in Nigeria's banks.

Under the regulations, the identity of anyone making a transaction above 250,000 naira ($1651, £1013) must be checked.

they have allowed the NLC with the help of oil cartels to scare the living day light out of ordinary nigerians

You should cut down on the amount of food you eat
and do some exercise, play some sport, dont assume running around for bus or walking to lectures under the sun is exercise
do something like jogging for 30minutes a day then increase to 1 hour a day three time a week
and target you belly and booty with sit ups and squats wink

You have to compete with other international students arriving at the same time (you know how we nigerians like to arrive late)

I think it is very expensive to go abroad to study if are not on scholarship. I planned going abroad to study last 2years with money I made why working in Diamond bank. I would fully sponsored myself with my bank savings but I thought to still work and gain more experience. But last year I applied and sat for the PTDF scholarship exam and passed. Today I am a fully funded scholar of PTDF with my bank savings still with me. I encourage people on nairaland to always take time and browse for scholarship bodies. It is unfortunate that people would spend so much time on internet browing rubbish. Even before the PTDF scholarship, I was on the verge of securing tuition free scholarship from the Durham University for their MBA. But sine PTDF covers both tuition, living and extra allowance, I had to take that one. Always spend your time searching for things that would add value not ones that would deplete the little you have. Yes, things are difficult, but always know what you want - try browsing about governments of Japan, Canadan,Sweden and other international organisations. They always scholarship for people from developing countries.

tex
SEFAGO says it's easy getting undergrad scholarship, he should kindly provide the necessary step-by-step guide so whoever is interested will follow the guide. I must point out though that scholarship is not for everyone. Same with getting a job on campus (BTW, some schools pay well-above minimum wage). We need to draw inspiration from the Indians (and to an extent CHINESE). I 'm impressed with what the Indians are doing. Not only does their government encourage studies in medical field, IT et al, the private sector also provides information about the schools, ratings and student life. So even before an Indian student steps on campus, he/she knows what to expect. They also routinely share information about available jobs, so it shouldn't surprise you that they are usually employed on and off campus-- they are better organized than we blacks. And please if you have any Chinese friend, and you happen to need a textbook for a course, ask your Chinese friend. He 'd be able to get you the textbook in ebook (or .CHM) format.

@ all those that queued to get fuel

Is it still the same price?

Were there some stations without fuel?

Did you buy fuel because you were running out of fuel or because of deregulation?

I heard the NNPC with be having three month worth of fuel in stock just incase the fuel marketers
try to hoard fuel ( I wonder why they do this) to me the oil marketers are the ones funding NLC and
other protest groups just to continue earning extra cash from the govt
