Watchers say that some of the happenings in Abuja on Friday were related to the pressure. On Friday, the presidency issued a statement, which was carried by the international media, that the president would not be resigning.
Why do nigerian newspaper quote foreign/international media on news happening in nigeria?

The Cable News Network quoted a presidential press statement as saying that, ”President Umaru Musa Yar‘Adua and the vice president will continue in their respective roles and the latter will not assume presidential duties.”

Rosabelle:
What are you talking about sir?? You  seem to be contradicting yourself.

@TexMex that has been my problem you know. This huge divide between the rich and poor that is predominant in the north. Yes its a nigerian problem, but it seems there simply isnt room for the private sector to flourish in the north. Or the private sector simply keeps away from it? I dont understand.
Cos I mean, like I said, Im a born lagosian and I LOVE that city, but there was no plan for the population explosion and now, its like living in a jungle. Though the present governor is working, it'l take the joint effort of other governors working on their own states too, to reduce the lagos problem. Since people like mr. Igwe here believe one should always run where the grass appears greener instead of working on one's region to make it just as nice.
Most pople feel they havnt arrived until they live in lagos and this has led to the problems we have with overpopulation.
Now mr. Igwe and the like are running to abuja and Im wondering if this wont become like lagos in another 15yrs.
We cant be talking like lagos and abuja are the only places in nigeria. There are 34 other states and its quite unfortunate that the wealth and business opportunities are not being spread around
Private sector usually flourish in regions where citizens are generally educated and skillful to a certain extent, can afford their services/product, where most citizens are have a regular source of income> Basically where there is a semblance of a middle class

N101:
I think some of you miss the point, and the Ajebota comments are unhelpful.

Are you telling me there is no way to create a slaughtering system in this place that doesn't have some kind of order?
Are you telling me between the LG and the Governor and whoever else they can't set up a system that doesn't require refrigeration?
Do you know how many markets exist like this that don't have refrigeration but manage to operate with some degree of efficiency?

The only people who should be walking through are those involved in the slaughter and the clean-up process, not some young girl with a crate of soft drinks her head.  Those men should not have to work breathing in that black billowing smoke at the same time.  That to me is where the ignorance lies.

People being poor is not an excuse for expecting low standards and it doesn't mean they're stupid.  I'm sure if you ask these people they could come up with some very good and simple ideas to get their working environment functioning better.

But then who cares about standards or expectations, so long as we get the end result, right?
True

We can all sit here and say this meat didn't do me any harm but truth be told most of us see people die orwith terrible illness without associating it to things like these, these poor guys are working in conditions that are unhygienic and a big risk to their own health and the health of residents in the area considering the amount of waste going through the water system.
The problem is that people don't associate some unknown illness to open abattoirs

Early last year I know the Lagos state govt introduced some laws to correct things like this!

the Clubs are exhibiting the same traits as the state and federal govt when it come to revenue and development
They are basically relying solely on the money distributed by the NFF/NPL and their state government
They accuse nigerians of going gong-ho over foreign clubs yet do absolutely nothing to promote their clubs and players

Most of the players in the just concluded U20 and U17 play for local clubs yet none of them could 'sell' their players or even associate themselves with the on-going tournament, not a single interview about the players with coaches of club chairperson. the players are not even trained to face the media

and still in 2009 no single functioning website for the NFF/NPL and clubs the npl budget millions for I.T though
the clubs cant even be shown on TV being involved with some local charity or NGO, Xmas dinner with fans etc just to promote themselves  undecided
Politics › Re: Ibrahim Babangida (ibb) On Moments With Mo by DisGuy: 3:24pm On Nov 27, 2009
I would expect to rate Mo Abudu within Nigeria as Christain Amanpour is rated in the US, or as John Snow (Channel 4 News) is rated in the UK. I can't imagine Tony Blair, one of the UK's most remarkable Prime Ministers whose only flaw was the war in Iraq, on BBC Hard Talk
Seriously? Thought Moment with mo is more of a social talk show than a serious political programme

Snow will be falling off his bike reading this!

Who will pay for it?

Ikuforiji said while Lagosians in several constituencies commended the efforts of the state government so far, the House members had observed "some shortcomings and uneven spread in our developmental efforts."

His words: "Over-concentration of efforts at the centre at the expense of the upcountry tends to isolate a big percentage of our constituents to the extent that a simple mind will simply not agree that users of Aboru Road, Ire-Akari/Ilasamaja Road, Lagos-Ikorodu Road, Itoikin/Epe Road, Pen Cinema-Ishaga Road, are bonafide residents of our great state."

well if you keep saying it to yourself online and on paper, tehn you will get the same result, isnt it about time women in the society actually start doing something about it??

i mean you read in the nigerian newspaper; a learned judge sentencing a rapist to six month prison with the option of a 6000naira fine (£25) shocked shocked and you wonder what the ministry of women affairs, educated women (those that keep telling the world they want respect), female judges, pastors etc are doing about this barbaric laws in our society!

You should have seen the look on madam dora's face when the guy was talking she was waiting for him to pause so she could jump in! but homeboy no greee at all!!! talkative get levels!!

What we need to control is our rules and regulation with regards to investment in oil and gas, we are always getting the wrong end of deals coming in especially from Western countries, contracts are always based on their term almost as if we cant open up or invite other countries even smaller ones from other regions- We should start enforcing laws already in place to maximise our profit and whatever we decide to spend it on <investing in agriculture and manufacturing and technology>

See how western media reacted to china's renewed interest in major oil producers on the continent

I blame the women- this definitely is not the first time we are hearing about it in the country

I blame Female politicians for not doing enough instead they sponsor anti-nudity bills

Female Judges for not putting away these violent men instead adjourn cases > the man and woman return to the same house again!

Female Leaders for not speaking openly about it

of cos i blame the men too but if the women in the society wont do anything about something that directly affects them they shouldn't expect
the perpetrators to change overnight

doyin67:
a friend told me you can drive in uk for 1 yr with an international driving licence from 9ja, but i also want to know if it's allowed for people with settlement visa. cry cry
Residents
If you are the holder of an ordinary driving licence (car, moped, motorcycle entitlement) and provided your licence remains valid, you can drive any category of small vehicle shown on your licence for up to 12 months from the time you became resident. To ensure continuous driving entitlement a provisional GB licence must have been obtained and a driving test(s) passed before the 12-month period elapses. If you obtain a provisional licence during this period, you are not subject to provisional licence conditions eg displaying 'L' plates or being supervised by a qualified driver or being precluded from motorways.

However, if you do not pass a test within the 12-month concessionary period you will not be allowed to drive as a full licence holder and provisional licence conditions will apply. If you do not apply for a provisional licence within the first 12 months you must stop driving and obtain a British provisional licence with a view to passing a driving test. Provisional licence conditions will then apply.

If you are the holder of a vocational licence (minibus, bus, lorry entitlement) and a new resident, you must not drive large vehicles until you have passed the relevant GB driving test. Driving test candidates are required to pass a motor car (category B) test first before applying for provisional entitlement for larger vehicles

Am so ashamed of the responses am seeing here, this is a case of poverty mentality. Do they pluck money from trees in Europe? When my friends come in for the holidays its just so that we can mingle and have fun. In fact most of them, their parents send them ticket money to and fro so the case of bringing in plenty money just does not arise. How will Nigeria prosper when some of you guys in the diaspora come back and consume 200k in less than 3 weeks. That is giving a wrong impression and encouraging laziness.
well you cant blame them, there so much pressure to 'represent' and avoid the stingy tag. Funy thing is when you go for holidays somewhere else, say, NY, dubai, spain, france etc you hard spend this much and even if you do you
spend it on yourselve, in fact you can pick up your laptop and buy a ticket for weekend away in another country BUT budgeting for naija is something else entirely!!

New Anambra City (African Dubai - Taiwan)

(The first model, international city in Nigeria after Abuja)

>Sir Louis Odumegwu Ojukwu International Airport (a public-private partnership with Anambra Airline taking Anambra to the world, and bringing the world to Anambra)
>Anambra Shopping World (biggest shopping mall in Africa)
>Anambra Wonder Gardens (tourism and entertainment)
>The Nollywood Studios
>Emeagwali Information Communication Technology (ICT) Village.
>Industrial layout for 3,000 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to create at least 300,000 jobs (with electricity initially provided by the state >Government) and ultimately linked to the electricity grid.
>Independent Power Plant for Anambra State in partnership with the private sector
>New City layout: residence; schools, entertainment, etc

You have no industry experience or you have no working experience at all?
University Qualification is not the only thing companies look for esp in the UK
There are many people with Qualifications what set you from the rest how do you fit in to
the industry What can you learn and what can you give?

Have you offered this free work experience to companies in the UK or USA, Middle East?
This is what you should do first, I'm very certain they'll take you on even pay you some expenses
and offer free training

Good luck
