Though av been a guest follower for long and decided to create an acct sum days ago.. The bolded speaks volume. Your support of Jchi defines your person. One word- 'SELFISHNESS'. If the bolded truly helped you, it's rather amazing to perceive such attitude in your comment. Not a way to go Bro. Life goes beyond that. To get the visa is one thing. To survive in a new environment like US is another ball game. You cannot succeed in life devoid of relevant information which implies that you will have to learn from those who have been there. |

Want to chill till June/July or what do you advise. The best bet is booking far ahead of time. It becomes expensive as the departure date draws near. With this exchange rate ish too, it's not gonna be promising. It's better you make up your mind quickly. |

femi321: Congrats to Sirriddy, (Sent a message to you on whatsapp but e no deliver), gunther6 and others that have gotten their visa. Please i really need an advice. Out of the five admits i got (Uni of Maryland, Uni of Utah, LSU,West Virginia Uni and University of North Carolina, Charlotte (UNCC), Only UNCC offered me partial TA yesterday (10 hrs per week, $7000/year including partial Tuition Waiver) all others said no funding. After troubling and sending countless mails to profs and grad cords in other schools with no head way i deferred both LSU and Uni of Maryland to Spring 2017, Uni of Utah said i cant deferred but that they will keep my documents and re-review along with other spring applicants in spring 2017 for both admission and funding.
My Questions now are 1) With just personal funds of about 1.2m should i plan to attend UNCC bearing in mind that the tuition per semester is $10,751? 2) whats the cost of living in North Carolina, Charlotte area like? 3) Can i work for additional 10hrs on campus? (I believe i should be able but i dont want to assume) 4) please who knows anyone that knows someone that knows someone in UNCC? NOTE: If i get funding from my defered admits i plan to transfer in Spring to any of them since they are ranked above UNCC
cc imperiouxx bigfrancis21 ojap I'll start by saying 'A bird in hand is worth 2 in the bush'. Having a partial GA is better than nothing. I believe after spending a semester, being in the system would help you and increases your chances of getting a full GA after a semester. Yes you can work additional 10 hours but that surely won't cover the rest of your tuition. It can only help your feeding. On the average living expenses, Google would help you out. I have seen before different comparison of relative living expenses during my search too. Try search Google with your key words. |

To those who have been searching for cheap flights, based on some members past observations, flight fees change every minute depending on the traffic.
I can't remember vividly but, the likes of Bigfrancis21 and a couple of other people suggested that bookings are better made in the night and intending date of departure being a Tuesday for cheap flights.
Anyone who has a better info should help out please. |

@ Angelapinkytoes
Like MsNas earlier pointed out, the experiences with the CBP is not what you wanna go through. One should expect that your travel history would come to play but you never can predict the CBP guys. I was sent for secondary examination and I had my next flight in 2 hours but I was delayed for close to 5 hours, questioned, and allowed in after they were convinced. Not a good feeling in that room at all. I missed my flight though.
Visas only help one to knock the door, the CBP officials open the door to allow you in or otherwise. It's not a guarantee! You will need to explain and convince them about your mission and plans.
However, I strongly feel you having a genuine reason for travelling earlier will do. Try weigh your options sha. Best wishes! |

Been a long while I posted. I'm glad to see the rate of progression day by day. I've in recent times read through as guest but had to come on to congratulate this funny guy with a funny name- dickoflife (eponaye in Jchi's voice). Congrats bro. To ALL those who got their visas I say congrats. And to those going for their interviews soon, best wishes from me to you. However, it's a means to an end and not the end itself. It's a good life here but comes with it's challenges as well but trust me it's all worth it! God bless our hustle. Let me also add and warn everyone, from my experience, that there are 'crazy' hackers here in the US. My bank account was hacked few days ago where I saw transactions I never made. My debit card wasn't even linked to PayPal and I found PayPal transactions debited to my account. I had to go to the bank to complain. I was warned not to use my cards for transactions on public computers (even on the school library computers which I used for my last transaction). Even ones personal computer without a strong and genuine anti-virus is a risk. But I appreciate what banking is here. I was credited with the total amount I lost to fraudsters in 2 days. Please let's be alert. @Gunther: what airline did you book? bbdd, kenkool, sorbital, profojah, walspring, Imperiouxx, Bigfrancis05, Darklight, Innovativeame, I sight you all. Great guys. Greetings from Murfreesboro, Tennessee. |

As much as I believe Donald Trump can say this, it would be better you put a genuine link to the source where one can read it. The hard truth though. pennstate: Read this stuff, I dont know where he specifically mention Nigeria (Not my concern though). Below is what actually said. Trump spoke bitterly as he said: “African Americans are very lazy. The best they can do is gallivanting around ghettoes, lamenting how they are discriminated. These are the people America doesn’t need. They are the enemies of progress. Look at African countries like Kenya for instance, those people are stealing from their own government and go to invest the money in foreign countries. From the government to opposition, they only qualify to be used as a case study whenever bad examples are required. How do you trust even those who have ran away to hide here at the United States hiding behind education? I hear they abuse me in their blogs but I don’t care becauseeven the internet they are using is ours and wecan decide to switch it off from this side. These are people who import everything including matchsticks. In my opinion, most of these African countries ought to be recolonizedagain for another 100 years because they know nothing about leadership and self governance.”“I promise to make America great again by restoring our dignity that we have since lost through Obama. The more reason why I still believe that he, and his Kenyan brothers and sisters should be deported back to Kenya to make America safe.” |

To those who just got their visa and coming to the US soon, get yourselves prepared for secondary examination at the POE.
MY TRAVEL TRANSCRIPT:
Got to the MMIA and did my check-in. Had a couple of my cloths returned because I had excess luggage. Had food items like dried meat and fish, garri, egusi and pepper and the police/custom that checked my luggage insisted that I 'settle' them with N3k or I get it quarantined. I gave her N1k to let me be. School's in Connecticut but since they are going on vacation, I decide to go spend xmas with Uncle and family at Atlanta before I resume school. I flew with Qatar Airways on Tuesday, Lagos-Doha-Miami-Atlanta. That was long but adventurous for me. Flew 6 hours to Doha and had a 8 hours long (12am to 8am) lay-over. I never slept all through that night. I just enjoyed the free wifi at the HIA airport and charged my devices. Qatar has good services, their meal is relatively okay. I say relative because the first meal I had on the plane enroute Doha nauseated me. The second meal was nice. We flew 16 hours Doha-Miami. Had three meals on board and they were all nice. Had wine, ice cream, coffee, juice, chocolates and fruit salad.
I landed in Miami (POE) about 4pm local time and was meant to board a connecting flight to Atlanta in about 3 hours plus time. We disembarked the aircraft and went to get stamped in. Lo and behold there were plenty people waiting on the queue. So preference was given to those of us who are to catch our flight by 7:30pm. It got to my turn and I gave the CBP official my I-20 and international passport. While he checked, he asked me a few questions:
CBP 1: Where is the school at?
Me: Connecticut.
CBP 1: When is the school resuming?
Me: January 13th
CBP 1: Where are you coming from.
Me: Nigeria but I flew through Qatar.
CBP1: Where are you headed.
Me: Atlanta. Since the school is going on vacation, I wont be able to commence registration so I decided to go and spend xmas with my Uncle and his family in Atlanta and thereafter leave for school.
CBP : When are you going to connecticut?
Me: In about 10 days. Just after xmas.
CBP: You have your flight ticket to connecticut?
Me: No not yet.
CBP:What's that paper you are holding.
Me: My SEVIS fee confirmation.
He took the SEVIS receipt from me, took my picture and finger prints, held on to my passport and asked me that wait somewhere around. Some other people were standing as well. I knew immediately that was secondary examination. I was scared. I wondered what went wrong. Thought if it was because of the food items I declared
An officer who was packing all witheld passports beckoned at self and others standing to come with him and led us into another hall (DHS office) where people in our shoes were already seated. European, Arabians, South Americans, Carribeans, and Africans including myself sat patiently to be called, questioned and examined. I waited for about 5 hours before I was called! Remember I had a connecting flight to Atlanta in 3 hours. At first I was worried I was going to miss my flight but when I saw that majority of us examined will miss our flights I stopped worrying. I sat calmly while several thoughts of what might have gone wrong filled my head. I had no answers. Then I decided to just dey look for I felt they could be watching and studying everyone on camera. While we were seated, I-94 cards were distributed for us to fill.
I later noticed an officer was looking at me while he worked on his computer, I sensed he was probably ascertaining my identity.
He called my name from his window and then I walked up to him, gave him my filled I-94 card. Asked me the same questions the first officer earlier asked me I gave same answer. He stamped the card and gave me my copy, stamped my passport as well. At the exit door, another officer checked my passport and I-94 plus my I-20 and asked me what I came to the US, told him study. He stamped me out. That was around 10pm.
I then went to claim my luggage (2) but i couldn't find them so i spoke with the CBP officer I saw around, explained to him that I was with the CBP and I missed my flight, he helped call someone on his phone and the told me the bags have been moved to Atlanta and that I should go to the American Airline stand and complained (American Airlines pick local flight while Qatar does not, so AA and QA work together for local flights). I showed the AA attendant my ticket, he checked and told me the gate I'll board the next flight. Mhen that gate was so far, 12 minutes and I was still walking down to the gate. I got to the gate, got my ticket changed and waited for us to board around 12:30 am while I tapped into the Miami airport wifi. I was airborne for another 90mins from Miami to Atlanta, touched down, went straight to claim my luggage and found them. While we waited for the luggage, I tapped into the Atlanta airport wifi.
While I was in the DHS office in Miami phone usage was forbidden so I could not reach my uncle on phone to tell him I will be delayed. I called him with my roamed line after I was released and apparently he was worried because I didn't call him at the expected time, he didn't know what was happening. My uncle was waiting to pick me and we left after I picked my luggage. |

You should have tailored it towards the problems in HR and Admin in Nigeria and how the school would help you combat the problem. Thirdly, Feb 2014 is 22 months ago. You should have filled the gap with NYSC, or work experience. Try work on these Bro. Sorry. |

Dhejy: Hello Guys, I had my interview today at window 5 around 11:55am at Lagos Consulate. The VO lady looks like an half cast but unfortunately I was denied based on strong ties. Here is how the interview went VO: What are you going to do in US Me: I am going for my masters degree VO: what course is that Me: Project Management VO:How many schools did you apply to Me: 3 schools and I named them all. Northeastern university, Illinois state university and Morgan state university. And gave a reason why I chose Morgan state VO: What course will you take Me: I mentioned the courses as it is on my university's website VO: How are you funding your education Me: Personal savings and I have a sponsor to support me VO: How is your sponsor to you and what does your sponsor do Me: Told her he is uncle and he is a senior manager at ..... Mentioned the company VO: have you travelled before VO: No I haven't Then she told me to do biometrics and told me unfortunately my visa won't be approved but i can check the reason on the sheet. Which I saw it was based on strong ties to my home country So my question now is, how will I be screen for home ties when at first she didn't even ask me what do I intend to do after my program and related questions that had to do with me not returning. Despite I have an official letter from my HR to the consulate about granting me study leave to complete my study and return back to duty which I plan presenting if its been asked but to my greatest surprise it wasn't asked at all. Plus she never asked about bank statements despite I told her I have a sponsor and am also sponsoring myself as well which its all indicated on my i 20. Please guys kindly help look into this situation and advice what I did wrong or what I could have done in reverse and suggestions on when I can reapply for a new appointment. The truth is some other persons will give same responses and get their visa. All in all, it takes the grace of God. Hard work should not be left out. However, your denial may go beyond what you just wrote. It could be due to probable factors you might not have stated like you not being confident enough, didn't maintain eye contact, probably you stuttered while you gave the responses and couldn't make up a sentence due to you being nervous. I feel for you bro. Just work on your lapses and refire. Quiters never win! |

bigfrancis21: F1 visa is only a permit that allows you to travel to the US and leave. It is different from your F1 status. When you arrive the US and register in school, you're in status. If you finish your masters and go on to PhD, you are still in status even though your F1 visa may have expired long ago. You would only need to renew your visa if you need to travel out of the US to maybe go visit Nigeria and return. You cannot do this in the US because a visa can only be gotten and renewed at an American embassy and we don't have US embassies in America, only abroad. The nearest countries to go renew your visa are Mexico and Canada.
And yes, upon completion of your PhD, if your school wishes to hire you as lecturer, they will file for you on H1b visa. Being a university institution, their H1b visa petitions are immediately granted once applied for and there is no lottery for university-filed petitions.
So, you can continue being in status years after your visa has expired, so long as you are still in school. Analytical Writing: 6.0 |

Note that the confirmation number must be same as the one of your appointment otherwise you'll be turned back at the consulate. |
