Some people want to retain privacy.
Some do not want their school bombarded with beggars.

There is enough information there for people to learn from.
It is pathetic when people are condemned because the keep personal details private.

Tell us why you demand to know the name of the school?
What are you going to do with that information?
This is not needed at all. Quit being shallow minded!

I need your advice pls. I was recently denied visa at the Abuja Embassy under the 214(b). We had barely started the interview, after she asked how many Universities I applied to and what course, I was expecting why the course then she asked who's sponsoring you and what does the person do, I was staggered off as it wasn't the next question in my subconscious. Anyways I stuttered, and she was brought out a pink-red letter.

To Present day... I'm filling out a new D-160 form having been offered admission to another school with GA offer. Please guys how do I go on with this and not rupture my chances of getting an approved visa. Thank you.
Post your interview transcript for gurus to help analyse it.

Read through people's interview sessions (transcripts) in the past parts and pages, both approvals and denials, for you to learn on how to answer questions. Make sure you do these so you do not repeat the same mistake. Welcome to NL.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 9 by djmakson(m):
Posting this transcript on behalf of my aunt (not on NL) to give back and replenish the thread for prospective applicants to learn.

Profile: HND, Msc, Works in a bank, been to the US before, applied to Lone Star College, Kingwood, Houston Texas, Nursing.

Visa Type: F1 and F2 (for my 12 year old son)

Interview Time: 6:30am

Visa approved at Lagos.

V.O: Gudmorning
Me : Good Morning
My Son: How are you today?

V.O: Oh am good and you?

My Son: Am very fine.

V.O: Can I have your passport?

Me: Passport passed to him?

V.O: Your 1-20 please?

Me: 1-20 Passed to him.

V.O: Why this Course and tell me more about it?

Me: My dream job had always been a job where I can save lives. The flair for it got increased when I started living with my foster parents who now happened to be a nurse. However, I couldn’t secure admission to study Nursing as at that time but the urge never left me. The urge became more stronger some years back when I lost a close family member to diabetis due to ignorance and at that time I had wished I was a Nurse. She wouldn’t have died. I further discussed this with my husband who supported my idea and decided we start planning for this to come to reality. In this vein, we agreed to invest into health care for the use of the people.

V.O: Why this School?

Me: I had an opportunity to visit this School during my last visit to the US and discussed extensively with the International Student Advisor.

V.O: Okay that’s fine. Excuse me for a minute
He left with the 1-20 (Come see prayers o).
He came back and faced his system, after some minutes the next I heard was go to Victoria Island and pick your visas.

I bless the name of the Lord.

Joking apart, I have a terrible critical reading skill which made my GRE verbal score suffer. That explains why I couldn't fathom the gists of brightify's message and yours, or maybe the messages were actually intended for an informed person. I really need this help.
Again, the issue is I got Visa to go to GSU Atlanta, but I wanna enroll at CSU Ohio for the same Fall entry. How do I proceed? Please, in a simple language. I am a johny-come-lately on the amazing thread.
Simply put, you can go to the other school if and only if you already have been admitted. But it's better you get into the US with your main school I-20/visa and then initiate a transfer when you get here. This is the best way to play safe.

However the 'Present it' he stated means present your bus or flight ticket to the other school to butress your reason of going there.

TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 9 by djmakson(m):
This thread is fast turning to an e-fight thread, straying from the purpose for which it was created.

Guys, sheath your swords. We all need to learn to ignore. When a conversation is getting out of hand turning into an altercation, silence is the best. Being silent does not portray foolishness or cowardice. It helps to avoid further mess. What's even the point of fighting on a faceless forum? We all aim to come study in the US, but I must warn that matters like this (exchanging words during an altercation can put one in trouble). I witnessed a similar experience at my work place on campus just few days ago.

I walked into my work section as my shift commenced and met two other co-workers (black guys) exchanging words. Work pressure at that time apparently told on them. Although they never went physical, they were obviously furious at each other and they talked so fast that it became difficult for me to clearly hear what they said. I spoke to both of them to calm down. While one did the other kept on talking and stoked another fire. It was getting out of hand. I had to call the manager.

To cut the story short, on top 'ordinary' altercation, as the only witness (note that I met them exchanging words so I didn't know the root course of the issue) I gave a verbal statement on 2 different occasions to the Manager and another Oga, a written statement on another occasion, and on Tuesday again I was called up by one of the Vice Presidents (Deputy VC) of the school to come and relay what I witnessed. The guy who kept on talking happens to be a Senior in the undergraduate level. He was fired! Now his studentship is on the line. The VP told me she may call on me again.

My point is this: We should drop our 'fights' and muscle flexing at the MMIA or wherever in Nigeria before boarding the plane.

My opinion

1, With what he posted, the two schools gave him admission and he went to embassy with the two schools I-20 and mistaken gave the VO info about another school he didn't filled and maybe that's the reason the VO asked the question from him.

Let's come to think of it this way, How can VO ask you about research in another school that you didn't fill unless you made mention to the VO about that school research just as the way everyone used it to win VO's heart during interview.. gringringrin

2, VO wanted to know why you choose this particular school that you finally settled for ahead of other schools you applied to and you didn't settled for but why would VO asked you to tell talk about the research of other schools you didn't finally settled for instead of the school your finally picked ahead of other? Don't you think this is strangehuh

3, The truth is that the applicant is confused because of the denial for now maybe after few days he will get himself back and remember what really and truly happened.

4, Imagine VO asking you the research in unilag when you didn't fill Unilag in your ds160 but uniben or VO asking you about Texas where your school is not located but your school is located in Tennessee... It means the VO just wanted to test you and your ability and intelligent if you know what you are going for and where you are going as well..

5, I stand to be corrected here, I think the VO didn't ask him the research about other school he didn't pick or filled on his ds160 that he is not going, if peradventure the VO ask then it's a wrong question to take him off his feet and he should have told the VO sorry I didn't pick that school because of the research you wanted to know but I picked this school and the VO will say oh sorry!, there is nothing bad when you correct VO during interview because some VO can be funny to ask you those kind of question just for them to know if you know what you are talking about or not.
It could actually be a new trend like DareFadi earlier noted. Many F1 visa applicants may have actually applied to just one school to save cost but make up stories about applying to some more schools to the V.O to boost ones chances and portray one as a serious student. Asking about these schools not settled for is the only way the V.O can actually ascertain the truth other than the standardised exams/tests score sheet which sometimes may not even show schools applied to depending on the time test scores were sent to these schools.

The best way to prepare is to know things about alternative schools as well.

Well I don't know this thing about meat but I am a frequent "requester" of kilishi when I see someone coming my way and it has never been seized b4. Infact I just finished the last batch in my freezer and am all already anticipating another delivery.

Don't mind me, that sh*t tastes good in noodles or for cold garri during summer like this... grin grin
Well, from what I know and what frequent travellers told me. I guess some POEs are more strict than others.

I wish I could get it across. I love dried meat. grin

dannybrown19:
I guess the POE is ATL.
No it wasn't. Meat is generally not allowed irrespective of the POE.

To those coming to the US soon:

If you would have enough space in your luggage (be mindful of the weight. Every airline has specific maximum) , pending the time you would have to visit any African store here, you could arrange for some food stuff like garri, egusi, ogbonno, dry fish, dry vegetables. Get them in ziplocks or plastic bags, clearly labelled. That would last you for a considerable period before eating burger grin

P.S. Palm Oil (Epo pupa) is not allowed. It won't even pass MMIA.

No wahala boss...
I doubt if that 'kpomo' will make it through the POE. The dried meat my mom sent through Uncle to the US (which I had keenly waited for) was thrashed at the POE. Plenty pieces of meat. The tin pain me die. Infact it wasn't declared, yet it was discovered with a machine. Anything meat is not allowed. Dried fish can go through.

From experience, the 'strike through' is possible!
Okay Bro. I would like you to educate me.

My calculation tells me that as an international student limited to a maximum of 20 hours per week strictly on campus or campus affiliated outfits, (exclusive of other underground earnings), you gotta earn at least $25 an hour ($1000) and when it gets taxed. It dropped to an estimated $800. Which school pays $25 per hour to students? Your school?

Now getting complete 20 hours is another ball game because you have a lot of students, both citizens and aliens who are willing to work which means shift hours will be allocated to accommodate as much student workers.

Except I am missing something, I feel that claim is exaggerated! Educate me bro.

DareFadi:
Scratch that , Best to abide with the laws regarding your visa ...10 dollars here and there should not become a major problem for you later on .

[s]With 20hours a week you should be able to get up to 800 a month [/s]and over and during holidays at 40hours which would take care of housing and feeding . .....So if you get a job you will be more than OK , the only thing is you might not see on campus job or you might not see initially in the first semester (it really depends on the school opportunity ). Nobody can predict that so PLAN For a backup also just incase the oncampus job doesnt come in time

In summary if you have tuition free then yeah it a risk worth taking . It might be rough initially but it will be fine . Just be very prudent with what you have from day 1 . ..... It when you have no tuition off or half tuition then it becomes very difficult

Best of luck in what ever you decide .
From experience, the 'strike through' is a DREAM!

Good day everyone, please I just got admission an MBA to St Clouds state university and I got my I20 but on my I20, the program length says 36 months but on the school website MBA should be completed in 16 months. When I mailed the graduate cordinator she said they normally put 36 months for MBA in case I'd like to differ some courses or Incase I decide not to take some courses at a point in time. All in all she said the program length on the I20 is giving me enough time to finish my MBA course in case of unforeseen circumstances, even though I intend to finish the program in 16months.
My problem now is how do I explain to the VO that I'll be doing MBA for 3years? It's usually 2 years or less and I don't know if I am to put 16 months or 36 months on my DS 160.
Can someone please advice me . Your response would be appreciated.
That's exactly what some schools do and it's normal. You have no cause for alarm. Whenever you are being asked in your DS-160 or at the consulate, just tell them what. Is written on your I-20. A lot of people have experienced that including myself.
