The first page of the Bible is therefore a description of life at its best.

Therefore choose life” (Deut 30:19). Life becomes, therefore, the duty that is required of anyone who wants to walk on God’s paths. Health is the first mitzvah of the Jew and of anyone who believes in God.

The concept of life which is expressed in health comprises all these;

A. Spirituality;

The spirit of God, Ruach Elohim, is the principle of life. To be spiritual means to be alive, and to be alive means to be spiritual.

B. Wholeness

Another implication of the creation of man reported in the Bible is that the human person is conceived as a whole. Man became a living soul (Gen 2:7). Thus it would be inappropriate to say that man has a soul; man is a soul.

The word nephesh which is commonly translated by “soul” implies in fact all the functions of man, spiritual, mental, emotional, as well as physical. The nephesh can be hungry (Ps 107:9; Deut 12:20), thirsty (Ps 143:6), satisfied (Jer 31:14), enjoy good food (Isa 55:2); it can also love (Gen 34:3; Song 1:7), be troubled (Ps 31:9), cry (Ps 119:20), make research (Lam 3:25), know (Ps 139:14), be wise (Prov 3:22), worship and praise God (Pss 103:1; 146:1).
The flesh, basar, which is supposed to contain all the physical functions of man, has also spiritual functions. The flesh is troubled (Jer 12:12), knows (Ezek 21:10), is spiritual (Joel 3:1), worships (Isa 66:23; Ps 145:21).

Thus, man may think with his body and eat with his soul, just as he may think with his soul and eat with his body. Actually the two words nephesh (soul) and basar (flesh) are often interchangeable (Num 31:35; cf. Ps 145:21). The reason for that confusion is that soul and body do not exist separately. Man is conceived in totality. If the physical mechanism stops working, the spiritual mechanism does the same (Eccl 9:5). Death is total just as life.

For the Hebrew, to be whole, complete, “total” means therefore to be healthy. It is noteworthy that the Hebrew word Shalom which means “complete,” “whole” is mostly used with the connotation of health.



C. Food

It’s interesting and indeed important to realize that when the Bible speaks about food, it does not do it with the concern of health but with the concern of the sacredness of life. The first time that food is mentioned, it is to inform the reader that food has been given by God in a way that does not threaten life. Humans and animals are sharing the same vegetarian diet (Gen 1:27-30). The same principle justifies God’s commandment not to eat meat with its blood (Gen 9:3-4)
The reason for this prescription is explicitly indicated; it is because life is in the blood. (Gen 9:4). This is the lesson hidden behind man’s diet. We should eat with the awareness that life is sacred. This association of thought is quite consistent with the biblical idea that God is the creator of life. This food is given by God to sustain life; it therefore could not be otherwise: we cannot on one hand provide and affirm life in eating and at the same time withdraw life in killing and the shedding of. blood that is life. This principle is so important that the biblical text goes so far as to associate it with the killing of humans and the fact that man has been created in God’s image (Gen 9:5-7).

The same lesson is implied in the Levitical restriction “you shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk” (Exod 23:19). It is clear that besides the cultural reason that associated this recipe with the Baal fertility cults of Canaan, and the ethical intention to prevent the cruelty against animals, there is another deeper reason: affirm the teaching of the sacredness of life.

D. Sex


The biblical raison d’etre of sexual relations is the high reverence for life. Here also the reference to creation is implied. The four duties that are associated with sexual life are pointing to creation. The first duty is given in the creation story; it is the first commandment of God, “Be fruitful and multiply” (Gen 1:20). It is amazing that the first human conception is put in the context of sexual life. “Adam knew Eve”—and yet it is interpreted by Eve as a divine creation. “I have acquired a man from the Lord” (Gen 4:1)


The second duty concerns hygienic measures taken in relation to bodily discharges. Both man and woman are subject to the same laws which imply rituals of washing and cleaning. For the woman however the time of uncleanness is longer (7 days) during which the woman is set apart (Lev 15:19) and no sexual relationship is allowed (Lev 10:18). Here again we may perceive the same principle that was behind the dietary laws, namely that life is not to be associated with death. Sexual relation, an act of life, cannot take place at the time of menstruation, which is associated with the blood and the loss of potential life.

The third duty concerns sexual satisfaction. Man should not frustrate the woman, not only from her food or her clothing, but also from “her marriage rights” (Exod 21:10). According to this view sexual relations are then legitimate outside of procreation (contrary to the Catholic tradition). Yet it is noteworthy that this duty concerns only the husband; the woman remains sovereign on that matter. She is the one who should control the relations. This nuance is suggested in the context of the creation story where man is described as the one who “shall leave father and mother” to follow his wife in their becoming “one flesh” (Gen 2:26). The same principle seems to dominate the man-woman relationship in wisdom literature, especially the Song of Songs, where it is the woman who takes the initiative and controls the relationship (see also Jer 31:22). All these measures may surprise or even shock our “macho” views. But they make sense from the perspective of the protection of woman and hence the health of the sexual relations. Sexual satisfaction is achieved insofar as it implies reverence for the sacredness of life.


The fourth duty concerns the nature of the relation that is contained in the sexual relations. The Hebrew word that describes sexual relations is yada‘, which implies personal, intimate and reciprocal experience in time. In other words, sexual relations imply the knowledge of the partner. It is not a onenight experience. It implies the duration and the commitment of life. It also implies it is between two persons. The woman is not given to man or reversely as a mere object of pleasure. They are both subjects facing each other. The Hebrew experience that describes this relation is given in Genesis 2:18: the woman has been created by God in relation to man kenegdo, which literally means “as his opposite.” The relation that was given at creation necessitates a relationship with someone who is both like me and different from me; she/he is both with me and against me. She/he supports and confronts me.
It’s clear then that this biblical view of the couple excludes any relationship with the same sex (only like me) or relationship with an animal (only different), just as it excludes any extramarital affair. It is only in this experience, vis-avis with the one who is like me and different from me, only in monogamous experience which implies the real knowledge of the other that we will produce and guarantee. Only within these parameters will we achieve the highest biblical ideal, namely the resemblance with God. It is in clear significance that equal creation of the human couple as man and woman in their sexual relations.

Finally

E. Environment


All those biblical laws which apply to space and object surround the human person and concern his/her welfare. This relation is already obvious in creation. The environment is indebted to the Hebrew view of creation. Contrary to the Greek and the dualistic views where creation is depicted as negative, the Bible describes creation as positive and valuable. After each act of creation God evaluates that it is very good and beautiful. God creates the world as a perfect and enjoyable environment for the humans. Before creating man, God creates his environment, the light, the sun, the water, and the animals (Gen 1). The plants of the garden precede the formation of man (Gen 2). Also this garden is not just given to promote shelter and food for the man. It is not just a useful context. The biblical text lengthens in discussing the harmony and the “useless” beauty of the space where man will be put. Trees are not just good for food but are also “pleasant to the sight.” And the tree of life is in the middle (Gen 2:9). Four rivers are flowing there, and are associated with precious stones and gold.
The lesson God gives in His creation should be meditated by the professionals of religion. Beauty is the sign of life. Ugliness and boredom are not signs of good religion. God is first of all an artist. People who despise beauty and lack good taste miss an important aspect of God’s presence, perhaps the most important one.
The very fact that God created the human environment as beautiful is a religious invitation to appreciate the beauty of creation. This exercise of the sensitivity will bring life and health to our human existence. Maimonides, the great physician of the Middle Ages, recommended his patients to contemplate beautiful things and to listen to beautiful music. For the agency of beauty will dissipate despair and cure depression. Creation (not drought), life (not death), beauty (not boredom), joy (not sadness) will teach about God (Job 12:2-10)

My conclusion

Our concept of life and living is covered in ignorance most especially in this part of the world. Oyibos understand it a bit more than us. I wrote to from same hebrew which after describing the paying of tithe by Abraham to Melchizedek and it's continuation by levites and thereafter said that though all this existed in d past but since christ who has no genealogy with them came and be made priest has no need for sacrifice causing a change of priesthood therefore there is need for change of the law which is carnal. It says that though they were many priest but ceased to exist because they do die. Nothing like shallowness in understanding Bible. That's where you got it wrong by mentioning Vatican. Was Vatican the origin of Christianity? Christianity became official religion of the Roman Empire 100s of years after Jesus had come. America since the had gone on to be the most successful nation on the face of the earth, with the British empire following because of the role these two countries played in spreading the gospel of Christ. Example for Love, English just has the word love but Greek has different meanings for love; Eros, filial, agape. Eros is erotic love, filial is parental family love while agape is God's love which is unconditional.

When writers of the Bible, originaly, they used those exact words but English translators of the Bible just used one word. Therefore when you want to do an in depth study of the Bible get concordance for Hebrew for Old Testament and Greek concordance for New Testament. Apostle Paul told Timothy study to show yourself approved a workman that needs not to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth. The early apostles were deep study people. That is why they turned the then ancient world upside down. They shook mighty Roman Empire to her knees and Rome had no other option than to murder them. But they were martyrs willing to lay down their lives for the one who gave His life for them Jesus.

I am sorry for those that listen to freeze, freeze has no respect and fear of God at all. It is just God's mercy that has been keeping him. Concerning tithes let me first state that if you look at the New Testament writers they all always quoted the Old Testament. Even Jesus always quoted the Old Testament example when He entered the synagogue and opened the scroll and read Isaiah the spirit of the Lord is upon me etc.
They always quoted the Old Testament to the two are linked, one and the same.
When Jesus met the Samaritan woman there was major statement He made; salvation is of the Jews. If you know how to live life do a deep study on Jewish culture. The dietary laws of the Old Testament if you follow it, your body will be very healthy and many more things I can't state here.



Concerning tithes; tithe is biblical, it is scriptural. The book of Hebrews in the New Testament, God put it there for a purpose. Hebrews highlited on the priesthood of Jesus, after the order of Melchizedek. Which was by far superior to priesthood of Aaron. Even David by the prophetic declaration by the spirit in the book of psalms said though art a priest after the order of Melchizedek which was then quoted in the same book of Hebrews by the writer.

Who was Melchizedek, he was the priest of the. Most high, He was the pre incarnate Christ, in the book of Hebrews He was equated like the Son of God without any Beginning.

It was him that the patriarch Abraham paid tithe while returning from the slaughter of kings. Then Melchizedek ate communion with Abraham and blessed him also.

Also the writer of Hebrews also highlighted that Levi who was the father of the priests that collect tithes was in the loins of Abraham paying tithe to Melchizedek thereby showing the superiority of the priesthood of Melchizedek which David in the book of psalms declared. And Jesus priesthood is after the order of Melchizedek as shown by the Hebrew writer.

For more study read Hebrews chapter 1 which starts with God who at time pasts spoke to the fathers by the prophets has today spoken to us by his Son. Chapter one and two quoted a lot of Old Testament scriptures, (find them and read them)


Then read from chapter 4 Vs 14 where the writer starts writing about Jesus being our high priest. Chapter 5 begin to talk about the office of the high priest in Old Testament.

Hebrews Chapter 5 Vs 4 (I quote) And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron.
Being a priest in the Old Testament, you must be called of God. Like Aaron, if you were not called, you will be consumed example King Uzziah because he felt he was king went into the Holy of holies to offer sacrifice and he became leprous immediately and was banished for the rest of his life.

Vs 5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.

6 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

The same way Jesus did not glorify himself, it was an honour the Father bestowed on Him.

Then in verse 11 to 14

11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.

12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.


The writer had many things to tell them but they were dull of hearing because they were still babes, still needing milk instead of strong meat.


Tithing in New Testament is strong meat, not for babes, it is a very high divine depth. It is a thing of deep fear and reverence of God.

Then chapter 6 shows us the basic level of a babe in Christ I quote

6 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

3 And this will we do, if God permit.

4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,

God expect every of his child to go on to perfection leaving the foundation of Christian faith, the principles of the doctrine of Christ namely;


the foundation of repentance from dead works,

faith toward God,

The doctrine of baptisms,

laying on of hands

resurrection of the dead,

and eternal judgment.

These are the basic foundations of Christianity. If you read verse 4 down, it is very scary (holy fear of God) I don't eve want to touch that.


The question every true Christian should ask him self is my Christian life even up to these basic tenets. Also note that it is only by the Grace of God, His enablement we attain to perfection, not by our own strength but depending on his strength. But your life must show the true fruits that you are a genuine child of God.


Now as a Christian, does freeze utterance, his way of life show that he has anything to do with God. Even chronic sinners always comes to God in humility, fear and remorse but when a sinner, living in sin and has no fear for God be toying with God's word, and many are listening to him. Even me self dey fear. It is a fearful thing to fall in the hands of the living God. I will keep on praying for him, we all need God's mercy. That's all I have to say.

Your tithe should go to your local church where you are blessed with God's word every Sunday. While the pastors and overseers should reverently and with fear handle God's money. Those in need should be met, also for the running of God's work. Also of note, God's work/business is superior to any other business because it deals with the most important things which is ensuring the Salvation of the souls of men for what shall it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul. What shall a man give in exchange for his soul. The soul of man is the most important. And may God help us all.

I normally do evening walk out sometimes in banana island in Ikoyi. Those towers close to airtel office called endah parade or some other name. I know the man that owns it. He died like seven years ago of leukemia. I was told that year he died, in January of that year, his estate agent collected rent not his property, but rent on his property 3 billion Naira. Then you can imagine how much his properties were worth. But when they collected those rent money in January last seven years, the man was going to UK for treatment of his diseases and he was saying he doesn't know what will become of him, and guess what? Started reading this post for the past two days as a result of a very busy schedule.

I have read all the comments on this post and here is my take;

There is this post that you attract whom you are. Simple.
Relationships failing most times, both sides are culpable.

Like I said, most people why getting married Will always see, some signs and still jump in. Then when gbege and casala burst they will start crying.

Another thing women always blame men a lot, most especially matured women. According to research I read sometimes ago, martured women always come into relationships with a lot of baggages, so most times they judge you from there past experiences. During my dating period before I finally settled. I experienced a lot of issues from the women folk because I am the kind that believed that you have to treat women well, but also when she falls out of line I will bring serious discipline, and if you can't stand it, the door will be open for you to live. Now I want to refer to my fellow guys here. Despite what I went through, I always believed that I will get a very good woman. And likewise and behold finally God rewarded my resolve. I came in contact with a very young woman. She was 25 then, when we met first and I was 3 and half years off 40. Became serious about settling down around 32 but men it was battle. A point came I just believed I really don't have time for women drama again. Then emerged this young woman. Because of my personality women will feel that I am nice etc and will be showing nasty attitudes. So I began to hide my personality to women. But this young woman from the first time we met, she decided, her instincts was sharp. Men she never gave up, in fact I never had time for her, she was the one always calling. A time came I began to see that she was Very lovely soul. I gave her small time, she clung never letting go. After some time she wanted me to take it further. Never discussed wedding with her, she will send me pictures of suit she will like me to wear, wedding fing samples etc and this was then a 26year old. Finally I had to cave in and and then the deed was done. Honestly if that angel never appeared in my life,u don't think I would have settled down.

The question for both men and women, you want a good spouse, are you a good spouse? Have you developed your self for marriage. If you don't develop and prepare yourself, the high chances is you will have a very miserable marriage.

My woman God bless her soul is innocent, no guile and one thing I promised her is that I will always protect that lovely heart. She had her own heart breaks but she told me that despite all she always believed that God will give her the best.

I have seen nasty men, women, a lot of my married buddies are really messed up. In fact one particular case a group of us had to really call him to other. He was from a very wealthy home from my state Anambara. Can you imagine he wedded and while he was on honeymoon men the guy housed girls in the same hotel he was doing honeymoon with his wife. And men the wife was drop dead gorgeous. I wanted to vomit that day and presently he is still living that life.

Have seen women folk too, but the worrying time for me is here in Lagos I reside I attend a mega church in Leominster axis, and men the level of highly successful women I see without man in there late 30s I was really concerned. Even some in my department, the funny thing is they will be feeling high, still selecting men but when you meet with them personally they are worried, while you see younger women, very serious with their relationship.
