Your idea that if the earth was closer or further from the sun would send everything into chaos is based on the assumption that the earth is here for us.

I beg to differ, the earth is not here for us, we are here because of the earth, just the same way we see tadpoles in the gutter, does that mean the gutter was there because of the tadpoles?

The inability to see life with all its complexities coming from chance is understandable, but the alternative is incomprehensible. Life couldnt come from chance so it automatically means that God(an invisible old man in the sky who created and watches everything in the universe) did it, that is like claiming i dont know how smartphones work, so therefore the engineers must have used juju to create it...

Then finally, your argument from design is flawed, we see human technology created everyday. We dont see life being created, on the contrary, life is so natural and occurs naturally, why not look for a more naturalistic explanation for its origins instead of staining your head with supernatural improbabilities.
Christianity EtcRe: Is It Morally Right For A Pastor To Use A Phone To Read Out Bible? by donnffd(m): 8:44am On Jul 10, 2016
I see this question as the testament of the level of sophistication of many Nigerians.

At the period when the bible was written, people used scrolls to document and even in the synagogues, they carried around scrolls and parchment.
Recording in books was invented later on, it was more flexible and easier to carry than the older scrolls and parchments. Most of the ancient texts including the books of the bible where transferred to paper books.

Now we are in the age of Ebooks, Pdf, Epub, apps which is far more easier to carry than books and can contain lots and lots of information in the same surface area or smaller, and someone is asking if its morally right?

Christianity EtcRe: All Atheists, Why Did You Become An Atheist? by donnffd(m): 5:11pm On Jul 08, 2016
My journey was more like moving up the stairs...

Since i was a little boy, i have always been a curious fellow, i loved reading everything that caught my interest, comics, novels, arts, history, and most of all Science. I loved God too, loved him with all my heart.

My mom usually allowed Jehovah witnesses to come to our house to study and with time, i had people who came also to study with me and give me many of their books, like "my book of bible stories", "Revelation", "Questions young people ask" and so on. I also was given many of their articles, Awake magazines and Watchtower magazines, it was usually a fun read.

The First myth i got away with was the concept of Hell, thanks to jehovah witnesses. At first, i could not believe it, i read all the bible passages i could read, researched all i could research and even asked some of my uncles and aunts, note i was just in ss1 and this was a new experience for me, but i wanted to get to the bottom of it and Jehovah witnesses can really be convincing because they always back up their beliefs with bible passages. After evaluating all the examples of hell in the bible, and how the original word in hebrew was mistranslated, i concluded that Hell wasnt real but was still a fervent christian and a lover of God.

In SS3, if someone was to ask me what was my favourite topic in biology, i would say "Sexual Reproduction"(who ddnt), well that was before i got to the end of the biology textbook. Evolution was the last topic in every biology textbook i read in secondary school and for good reason, that sparked my interest immediately. it was new and exciting, never heard of it before and funny enough, it contradicted what was in the bible. Then i started another round of researching, any biology textbook i found, the first page i opened was the Evolution page, my grandfather use to have this library in his house with lots of books, i would go there, look for the biology section and spend hours upon hours reading about Evolution, genetics and Hereditary. I knew it so well that i could recite it from sleep. I would call that another milestone in my life, accepting Evolution as a fact.

When i finished secondary school, i had my first personal computer and Microsoft Encarta was my new favourite friend, i learnt alot from that software due to the fact that internet wasnt as common as it is now. I learnt alot about scientific theories, the age of the earth, the big bang theory, the age of the universe, plantery formation, Life, Exoplanets e.t.c. For the first time, i started to learn about other religions like buddhism, hinduism e.t.c. It made me start to read the bible from a different perspective and before long, i was convinced that christianity like the others were just a load of historical propaganda. Although i still believed in God, more like Deism (Another milestone).

During my final year in the university, i read these books Age of Reason and The God delusion, and that was it, the probability of God existing went from like 90% to about 30% and kept reducing ever since.

(To those who read this finish, sorry for the long post)

Your quotes are quite funny. I suspect you haven't even being to a science conference and see how opinions are exchanged. There is no pitty in academics. If you make a statement be ready to defend it with facts and always remember that your fact/theory is not absolute.
There is pitting in academics when the person involved is not up to date with the current progression. When you talk about exchanging opinions like asif the age of the earth is an opinion is actually pitiable. There is sufficient evidence for the age of the earth now that nobody argues about it anymore.

Most of the great scientists quoted today do not believe in evolution rather in creation. So being a creationist or an evolutionsit has nothing to do with your ability to do science. It is quite arrrogant for you to think that the evolutionsit is the scientist whilts the creationist is the pseudo scientist.
I never said that, where did you see me saying or typing that?...lol, guilty conscience

I attended a conference at the University of Nottingham on artificial bone and it was interesting that one of the pioneers said " when I read in the bible that God created man from the dust. I reckon that the answer to having an aritifical bone lies in the dust. So we tried ceramics"

Real scientists do not dismiss ancient text whether it's the bible, , torah or Sumerian literature.
Noone said anything about dismissing religious text, i personally find it to be entertaining and very rich in ancient culture, myths, folktale, arts and literature.
Issues only arises when you want to take these religious texts as the literal truths and change your world perspective based on what was written therein, thats sad and illogical. Science would never grow if that was condoned.

Lol, I ddnt quote google, i remember vividly saying it is a search engine site that points you to "RELIABLE" sites with "RELIABLE" information.

The rate of expansion in our galaxy and the assumption that there was a big bang has helped created models that would suggest the earth must be about a billion years old.
its such a pity you call yourself a scientist, because you would know if you were one that the big bang theory helps us explain the evolution of the universe and not the earth, and yes, the universe is 13.7billion years old, another piece of information you would have known if you really were a scientist.

Which of the rocks is 4.6 billion years old? I would not be suprised if there is one rock that old but the method of calculating such an age will be interesting.
I wonder what kind of scientist or engineer you are!, truly, You havent heard of "half-life" or Radiometric dating, please i recommend using that site to research on things like this, mr scientist or should i say mr engineer

I disagree again

I am an agnostic atheist, i am sure alot of theist would ask whats that, well it means i dont know for sure if there is an entity that created the universe, but i regard this entity's existence highly improbable.

Now how did i come to that conclusion, did i fall and hit my head?, or did i lose someone in my life?...the answer is NO

Just pure logic, reason and knowledge.

So please, if your beliefs changed because something happened to you, then i think you are an agnostic for the wrong reasons, but dont assume that all non-believers are the same

Back to my topic: As I have come to observe, most Nigerian atheists were not born atheists, but rather had an experience in time which made them distort their view of religion and begin to see its flaws and dangers. This is sometimes mostly due to a tragedy.
Although i would agree with you about atheists being converts at some point in their lives, i disagree about the point in which you claim that its mostly due to a tragedy that changes their views.

You are wrong!

A scientific theory is not the end result of the scientific method; theories can be proven or rejected, just like hypotheses. Theories can be improved or modified as more information is gathered so that the accuracy of the prediction becomes greater over time.
First of all,i am not wrong...

Secondly, when someone puts forth a theory, it must make predictions and be able to explain facts already known, if it fails to make accurate predictions, it is rejected, if it does make accurate predictions, it remains where it is.

E.g The theory of General relativity has passed all the predictions it made since it was profounded in 1915 except one, Gravitational waves.
If you are current, you would realize that Gravitational waves were just detected a few months ago thus confiming the last prediction of the theory

Did anybody change the theory to a law?

No

Its just shows that the theory is the best explanation for gravity, chikena

Why is this so hard to grasp?

And all this mumbo jumbo is fron where? Science? I'll pass.

Does DNA not have an origin? Before you befin talking about mutations and errors in genetic codes first ask yourself about the origin of the DNA and when you do find out if the DNA was deliberately flawed. Whenever science tries to explain DNA origins all you hear are words like, " probably, could have, maybe" you know why? Its because theg cannot explain it.

Some have even gone ahead to assume that the first DNA existsd before life itself but how? Did it just pop up? They all agree that its way too complex and are stil trying to figure it out. So according to scientists if they cannot understan the origin then all the explanations about mutations and flawed genetic coding is rubbish as those assumptions do not have a foundation.

You said these mutations "create" genes. How is it that this plant has been designed to even do that in the first place? For thag to occur so perfectly and deliberately shows it isnt by mistake.....it has been engineered or created to function that way.

Same way a human cannot give birth to a plant or to a pig but to a human as well. Before you attemot answering first find out if you can about DNA origins then you can speak sensibly

And u think laws fall all of a sudden from the sky, without passing the stage of "theory".
Example Boyles law.
U think people just one day woke up and suddenly saw it in textbook or what?
It was once an observation or statement or theory by somebody called Boyle and was then regarded as 'law' after verification by other scientists.

Please what cant u get in this simple explanation? That u r busy listing theorems that did not become laws.
Mr man, if you dont knw basic science, go back to school.

No amount of proof can turn a theory to a Law, because they are two different things.

A Law is a statement about a natural fact, e..g. anything that goes up must come down.

A theory is an indepth explanation of a verified natural phenomenon e.g the theory of general relativity explains how gravity is the curvature of space and time.

There is NO AMOUNT OF PROOF THAT TURNS A THEORY TO A LAW...jesu christi

You can say an hypothesis can graduate into a scientific theory, thats valid.

But saying a theory would graduate into a law is just plain silly and clearly showz how little you know of the scientific method.

According to evolutionary theory, any fruit that developed the ability to clearly indicate the ripeness of fruit (i.e., green – too early; yellow - just right; black – too late) had an advantage reproducing over those that did not, and in time would out-reproduce other members of its own species right?

Who gave these fruits the ability to think for themselves and come ul with such an intelligent way of reproducing faster than others? Do these fruits have a consciousness, do they have the ability to think and make decisions for themselves?
I guess you havent heard of DNA replication and Mutations.

The Dna is wat encodes information what proteins to be synthesized to build the organism

Mutations is an error in the dna replication process which produces a dna dat is different from the parent dna.
Some of the mutations creates a different combination of genes that encode for a different feature for the organism
If the feature is bad, the organism dies out, if its advantageous to the organism in the environment it is, it wud better out compete its pairs.

Science and atheism doesnt mean the same thing.
Many inventors and scientists believed in God.
Nobody is condemning science. Its just a study of what God has done.
Some people may take it to the extreme, even Darwin believed in God, he started theory of evolution based on assumption.
Some other people took it to the extreme from there.

Evolution and big bang will forever remain theories.
Simple, because they contradict the very foundations of science. They contradict the laws of thermodynamics.
If not, they would have become laws or principles long ago.
Dude, i never said Science was atheism, i only said that if you accept all other theories in science, why reject the one that seems to conflict with what your bible says, is that dishonesty to you.
