The watchword is stability.

What have you done to strengthen the Naira other than demand more and more foreign made goods?

And the foreign made good most demanded if not petrol. Don't u think it would have made better economic sense to fund refinery instead of regular intervention to stabilize the naira.

Just imagine the number of refineries that would have built with this intervention funds and the amount of dollars that would have been saved from the current regime of sole importation. I

Why negotiate with senior civil servants again unless they want to try Baba hafasa modulated salary. For those uninformed, minimum wage is base amount for which every salary is calculated from whether messenger to director. So no need for needless negotiation. Let them implement across board using the standard format. Unless of course, they are planning to do Aregbe style.

BTW how there's so many threads on the front page on the CJN yet the only topic on the supposed arraignment of the chief grass cutter of the nation didn't only not make front page but had just 5 comments before been closed by the mod.

Guess the topic is now regarded as heat speech but CJN own is patriotic news.

Has anyone bothered to find out what the law guiding the code of conduct bureau says. The code of conduct is not to try corruption but non declaration of assets. The law says when the public official admits his error in declaration of assets, u withdraw the assets form and give a new one to fill not charge him to court.
Only when he denies the allegations that he is to charged to CCT which was not the case with the CJN so why charge to CCT.

That's the position of the law and until it is changed the CCB should do the needful, give the a new asset declaration form to fill and withdraw the case from the CCT unless they can prove that he has foreign accounts.

Unfortunately for them, domiciliary account is not equivalent to foreign bank account so no infraction there.

This is just tyranny rearing up having bullied the legislature into submission, gagged the press with hate speech, harassed the opposition in oblivion, strangled the populance with hunger and poverty, filled the echelon of the security architecture with your loyalists and now for the final operation to achieving to absolute control, total control of the Judiciary.

Welcome PMB the president for Life, BAT and Co should just forget 2023 because as long as PMB is alive, no one will smell the presidency again.

Politics / Re: Just In: NLC Rejects N27,000 Minimum Wage by Dootty(m): 9:55pm On Jan 22, 2019
theoldpretender:
NLC is not going to get their 30000 minnimum wage....because the government cannot afford it.

Oil yesterday was $62 per barrel. Yes, it is $2 dollars above the minimum set for budget...but it is still far less than our 2017 breakeven price of $140 per barrel.

The breakeven price of oil is the price we need oil to be to have enough revenue to fund a budget sans borrowing, sans deficit.

Since Bubu took over, oil has never been above $75 on average. So, essentially, we are earning at least $70 less than we need per barrel of oil in revenue.

And NLC now wants a salary increase.

The only way NLC gets an increase is either

1.Government cuts things like fuel subsidy, subsidy for educaiton, ...meaning that fees go up,and petrol retails for N250 per liter and above.

2.Government takes a loan to keep essential services running...while it redierects money to pay the wage from other ministries.

3.Yes, they need to cut their allowances. Yes, N1 trillion is a lot of money to spend on our National Assembly...and we need to cut it. But that means that things like constituency projects, etc as well as jobs (senators and reps employ people too) would have to be cut...and I doubt the money would be enough.

Yes, Buhari should have diversified. The problem is,

1.Agriculture has not earned enough cash for us since the early 1980's. To rebuild our capacity in agriculture is going to take time...plus we have very very stiff competition (The South East used to be world leaders in palm oil. Now ...it is Malaysia and Indonesia. Can the SE rebuild its capacity to what it was in the 1960's).

2.Mining too...needs a lot of regulation. There is so much illegality there that cleaning up the sector is going to take years.

The thing is, e no go easy to pay this minimum wage. I hear people shouting Governemt is corrupt...and yes, they are right. The current government is not exempt from corruption. But even if we removed corruption....giving everyone an increase is not going to help.

Add the fact that the increase is for government workers only. Meaning..the private sector is going to come under pressure to match the public sector...increasing costs for a sector that is already finding it hard in Nigeria.Meaning...long term..investments get pulled out...jobs get lost.

So,let's face facts Nigeria...this country is not rich...and we need to make the hard choices to adjust to that fact. If NLC expects govt to fund a salary raise with oil prices that are too low to fund it...then they better get ready for more loans, or cuts elsewhere.

Either Nigeria takes the hard ro0ad to industrial development, or we keep on with our silly sharing money economics that we have been doing since 1960. ...which is why we are still underdeveloped.

I don talk my own.

Waiting for oil to reach 140 dollars as break even price is very tall dream. Let me on what indices was the break even price calculated because I know oil selling above 60 dollars is anomaly that wouldn't last. Even when oil sold below 30 dollars, US shale oil producers were still making a profit despite having the highest cost of production so stop this lame excuse of break even price. It's simply wishful thinking and fool paradise cause it's never going to happen.

So no break even price but PMB can cut his bald for 80 million naira annually abi.

Seems you are not familiar with the administration of Justice Act. Once there is a challenge on the jurisdiction, the case cannot be held until the CCT rules on the jurisdiction and I'm which the defendant can appeal and until there's a ruling on the jurisdiction, the main case cannot be held. Seems like u have forgotten that the same process played out in Saraki's case.
Let wait and see what happens at the next hearing.

High court has no power to stop the CCT since they are both courts of coordinate jurisdiction that's why the CCT sat today. The matter before the CCT is whether the court has the jurisdiction to hear the case and it must be first heard before the arraignment of the CJN. That's the position of the law.
Politics / Re: Onnoghen absent as CCT resumes ‘false assets declaration’ trial by Dootty(m): 2:50pm On Jan 22, 2019
Same high court stopped Gandollars from being investigated by the state house of assembly which is it's statutory function and up till now they never deemed it fit to appeal.
Even Buhari felt relieved by the lacuna from his statement that the house of assembly and court have relieved him of the burden.
No APC official or agent or supporter have ever spoken against the video or even chastised Gandollars despite the fact that the evidence of the video from last year till now.
Fast forward, the CJN case and within 24 hours of allegation, he's arraigned. Never has the code of conduct treated any case with supersonic speed.

Let me educate the uninformed on the procedure of the code of conduct.
First, the code of conduct bureau receives a petition and gets approval from the superior officer in charge at the office to investigate the petition. The case is assigned to an investigator just like the IPO to investigate the crux of the petition. Subsequently, the matter is investigated and the suspect is interviewed for his response to the matter.

If found wanting, the investigator submits his report to superior officer for approval to charge the case to the CCT. Once approval is given, the case is charged to the CCT with the defendant personally served. In the case of a personality like the CJN, the chairman of the CCB will definitely be aware before referal of the case to CCT. Let's be rational can all this process occur within 24 hours under normal Nigeria condition except their is a vested interest by the executive.

The NJC exist to protect the judiciary from harassment from the executive and maintain the diginity of the Judiciary. Just like you have in the police , defence and other security forces who conduct orderly room trial and court martial for their personnel who commit criminal offences before handing them over for civil prosecution despite the fact that the offence was committed in service uniform, you will never see a serving personnel been prosecuted. The person will have undergone orderly room trial and if found guilty dismissed from service before arraignment in the court.

So the judiciary is the third arm of government and just like Saraki who's the head of the second arm of government was prosecuted, he can't be forced to resign unless found guilty and even with that he has the right to appeal his case to the highest court.

Let's don't go far, as student, if the police require your attention for any case, they write to the school authorities to seek your release to them, they can't barge into the school to arrest you how much more a whole CJN.

The question now is has the executive fully declared their asset to extend of all their domiciliary acconts in dollars and pounds, can you mention any two ministers whose total amount in domiciliary acconts is known. Forget the president and VP half declaration. The only president to fully declare his assets in total of cash and properties is the late Musa Yardua.

Now with regards to FOI, the CCB chairman cleared stated it in public that the consent of the public official must be obtained before the asset declaration can be made public when questioned on the access to assess declaration of the executive. So was the consent of the CJN sought before the information was released to an ally of the president. Did the CCB investigate to discover the difference. What simply happened was that the CJN did not fully declare the asset the last time and has fully declared it now so what's exactly is the crime there. Just like president declared that he has a land in port Harcourt but does not know the location or size. If by the President wins the forthcoming election and declares the location and size of the land, is that not going be false declaration having earlier declared that he does not know the size location. Can then he be arraigned before the CCT since as claimed by the prosecution that it is a public official misconduct and not subject to the jurisdiction of the NJC.

The fallacy of the whole issue is the attempt to probe the salary account of the CJN from 2005 without probable cause or allegation all in a bid to indict him. For those not aware, apart from the salary of the judiciary, they are entitled to estacodes for conferences and vacation annually which they may choose not to exhaust all on spending and save the remaining. The estacode of the public officials per day range up to 1,000 dollars if ordinary local duty tour allowance is about 100 dollars based the previous exchange rate of 150 to dollar not this bastardised PMB induced rate of 360. I even know for a that the local government chairman's wife is entitled to half a million for monitoring the environmental sanitation every month. So you can imagine how much an appeallate judge can serve every year from 2005 to date if he's not living a flamboyant lifestyle and not a property monger.

Let's just reason logically, has anyone accused the CJN of bribe or misconduct or has the allocation the judiciary been to have been misappropriated?

The bad precedent been set is have a whole serving CJN to appear before a tribunal who is not up to a high court judge in hierarchy. It's like a repeat of CGS Lt General Diya appearing before Late Abacha CSO Major Mustapha over the phantom coup plot allegation.

The timing of the allegations close to election coupled with the refusal to confirm the CJN timely has shown the bias of the executive in this case.

Now looking at the position of the law, once the public official has admitted his mistake, he's too be issued a new form to update his assets declaration. The CCB is not to recommend to the CCT for prosecution once the official has admitted his error. It is only when he denies and contest the allegations that he can be prosecuted by the CCT just like Saraki who contested the allegations.

If the CCB suspect corruption then they should invite the ICPC or EFCC not the CCT to prosecute. The executive has short themselves in the foot by requesting for the removal of the CJN from NJC which their ultimate goal to appoint another CJN of northern extraction who will do their bidding for the election tribunals.

We need to protect the judiciary from the executive onslaught as the judiciary is the last hope of the common man. The executive tried with the national assembly and the same judiciary came to it's rescue. So everyone should join hands to fight this onslaught on the judiciary because if this onslaught on the CJN is sustained then this spell the death of our democracy.

God bless Nigeria,God bless Lagos State and Ambode!.'telegan loju'.

I hope you are just been sarcastic otherwise these are just wishful dreams. You think Ambogone is going to ever finish a 10 lane express when you know how long it took him just to complete a flyover at Abule Egba and how many years of construction on the road they are yet to even finish iyana ipaja side.
These are projects that he can't even finish in his second term with the pace the work is going on.
Anyway you need the level of destruction on the adjoining roads and area caused by the so called construction.
Maybe when you spend 6 hours to and fro from Akowonjo to Ikeja then you will stop bootlicking Ambogone.

Not surprised cause he never passed any military exams from senior staff college, Jaji and war college that's why he never went to Kuru to attain Mni. No FSS, PSC or Mni suffix to his rank. Forget all the foreign training, those were just professional courses not academic and you get there is a certificate of attendance.
Even Abacha still had PSS and FSS suffix to his name.
Forget the NDA then, it was more of an ND program besides Buhari didn't even the necessary credit to qualify for it on merit.

Almost everyone is missing the point, Atiku is retired public servant and a pensioner so he's not supposed to pay income tax same reason buhari is not declaring his income tax because there's not to declare.
The tax law exempt two sets of people from paying tax under 18 and over 60 years.
In essence income tax is for the working class between 18 and 60. At 60 you are deemed a senior citizen and not expected to work again.

Anyway does the secretary of military board still exists in Nigeria because I know all army records are kept their base in lokoja so it would take more than two hours to retrieve copies of Buhari credentials if they ever existed.
One thing about government service is start they always for credentials in multiple copies so at least one copy can always be located unless of course it never existed.

By the way, is Soludo still a member of PDP cause last I heard he's now in APC so they expect Atiku to make an opposition member his v.p.
I know it's all about Ibo presidency 2023 but if they continue at this rate they might just lose the slot to south west. Instead of them to be rejoicing for getting slot, they are busy fighting the Obi.
Besides what useless agreement with Atiku are they brandishing after betraying the same agreement by voting for Tambuwal. Let them go and give their VP candidate to Tambuwal now.
The fact is Obi is best choice both in management and administration and even economic management which Nigeria desperately needs now.

Just pure waste of state resources, Fashola got approval to fix the road but Ambogone refused and instead used state funds gotten from international loans to do the construction all because he wants to amass money from the project.
After this elegant construction, what of the mess he's doing on Abeokuta express way, how will it fit into this network. There are more pressing priorities for a state like Lagos than fixing an airport road. Imagine the economic and development impact that would accrue to the state if he had continued with Badagry road.

Just see how the iyana iba igando isheri area opened up because of the dualisation of the road. That's the kind of construction Lagos needs not the reduction of existing expressway by half all because of some stupid metro bus lane.

It's the other way round, much dollars in the system start chasing naira so dollars rate fall and naira value increase from the 360 to something lower.
BTW, Buhari caused devaluation of naira by closing domiciliary, fining MTN 5 billion dollars which lead to massive divestment of over 80 billion dollars from the economy, incessant harassment of opposition members and course the multiple exchange he was operating which his cabals were the main beneficiaries.
These caused the devaluation not Johnathan.

In Tinubu you can mention at five with their ministries based on the work and delegation afforded by the Governor. In Fashola time you can remember even more but Ambogone time you can't even remember one cause everything is been done by the governor himself. So wonder he has to go cause government is not a one man show.

Politics / Re: Ambode Accepted Defeat To Avert Impeachment - Punch by Dootty(m): 12:03pm On Oct 04, 2018
hush15:

i tire o. What many dont realise is that the method deployed during the voting process was option A4 otherwise known as open ballot system. This mean you queue up in front of your preferred candidate and thats how they know if you are for ambode or their choice. of course, when you openly declare for ambode, your treatment awaits you and the outcome wouldnt be good so everyone who wish to safe his or her life wouldnt openly do such. we all know what happened to those that went against their candidates in osun and ekiti. hence the astronomical figure we saw in the margins, even within the party.

Now the onus ia on lagosians generally at the main elections to reject that kind of leadership that subdue the will of the people and the harassment that follows. I dont blame Ambode, he needs to do what he has done by accepting defeat in order for thing not to deteriorate and 3yrs of immense progress gone to waste, he is being smart though it was a bit reactive when he should have been proactive. He should have proactively foreseen this coming andntaking adequate step for his relection but his supporters should know better by now and anybody that has lagos interest at heart that without him speaking to kick out this government if they ever want to count again in the polity of lagos.

My message is to the elites. Tuesday primaries done by APC revealed that the electorates that vote are the lower class. That election took place on a working day when the weekend would have probably been more inclusive and those that took part were those who didnt have anything to loose. Direct beneficiaries who want rig the elections, touts, petty traders and mostly, the ones i would generally refer to as non enlightened one who fall within the lower class because i dont see any productive person in which majority are middle class or upper class leaving his or her work to engage in any election that would probably be ended up beaten by thugs. So it was really easy to control the outcome.

The elites which comprise of the upper and middle class shouldnt sit on the fence and watch their lives dictated by one man. To maintain balance, they need to be part of the voting process in the forthcoming elections and should fight for their votes. Especially the middle class that forms the biggest population in lagos else, Lagos is going nowhere

Nice writeup but you forget that this is not general election but party primaries, how many of the elites and middle class in Lagos are card carrying members of APC. Before Ambode gets to general election he has to win the mandate of his party first just like saying because Saraki is good at checking APC as senate President he must return automatically as senate President. He will need to first win his senatorial sit before contesting as senate President. Same thing with Ambode only that he never cared for the party and it's members despite riding on their support to win the election so it's just pay back time for him nothing more

APC has just handed PDP the governorship of Lagos state on a platter of gold

Which PDP, the one that does not even one serious aspirant for their primaries. Forget it, Lagos is APC for now maybe 2023 things may begin to change.
