Information reaching me is that PTDF delayed it to further screen the list. One of the methods of scrrening is to go online, read PTDF scholarship related topics and disqualify awardees besed on their comments

whatever the reason for the delay may be, it doesn't change d fact that PTDF has fckd up. It just shows that they don't care about how their decisions affect us. They are surely aware of the time required for the awardees to get everything set to resume in time, but they don't care anyway. Any attempt to rationalize wot they'r doing is called "ignorance". Yes, it is their decision, but it's a CSR, so they must consider us as well. It's been approx. 5 weeks since we did the CBT, what does the process entail that should make us wait this long? even till now that it's starting to seem unfeasible to resume at the ideal time. Our scores were ready 5 weeks ago, immediately we submitted our CBT, it's really disturbing to know that we hv to wait this long considering the start date of our programmes. Most schools in the UK will resume in approx. 3 weeks time.

it's just unfortunate that they don't hear/see our complains, that's Nigeria for u, all we hv to do finally is wait.

I was a beneficiary of PTDF's MSc scholarship. My younger brother and my younger sister too got same scholarship at different times. None of us was anyway connected to anyone.

However, I realized apart from the names on the list, there were so many other people that were selected and given award letters whose names were not on the list, some never even sat for the exam.

My point is this, these guys are very fair on merit, except times have changed. It used to be 9 persons from state and 13 from Niger Delta. This is very competitive scholarship. The other person is as good as you. Not everyone would be selected especially now the scholars per state are drastically reduced.

Lastly, PTDF actually sponsors other scholars from FG. one girl that did Msc with us was recommended by Presidency on account of National NYSC award to study up to PhD level.plus a job. PRESSID scholars are still been sponsored by PTDF And TETFUND till date. So they actually hv their hands in many things.

As if your so called scholarship application is better than health care. See me see wahala. To show u they ain't even informed, they call him MD. I wonder if they are aware of the parastatal they are dealing with. Who told you ptdf has anything like MD. U just come hr and disrespectfully display ur lack of manners. If your name is among, the man has nothing to loose, if your name is not among the man also have nothing to loose. If his health is on emergency, he shouldn't treat himself cos u wana travel for study... Mcheem. Please take things easy in life.. ptdf has been active and sponsoring pple for a long time, they know the timing of schools, they are aware of the rules of engagement. No b them go sponsor u? The list will be out,simple.

OK. Wise of you to have saved this much. Keep this money in a savings account and forget about it. This is your emergency funds/house foundation fund, etc in the future. Like you say, it's not enough to rent shop and it's not really an investment amount. I think it will be wasted if you go into real estate, or farming of any sort, because you will be undercapitalized.

I think the best thing is pretend this money is not there, and go and hustle on your first job. Good luck!

u guys are so funny. Me wey be say I am preparing to go to China on full PhD scholarship thanks to my AGIP sponsored UK certificate. If you check Nairaland China thread, you will see me asking questions on how to apply for visa.

If I had connection, why will I be following you guys here and argue on PTDF interview on what documents to bring or not. You guys are on your own o. Better pray your names will be there and stop blaming people if eventually you are not successful.

I can confirm to you that the GM is back probably reviewing the list. I hope he is fighting for merit because the list should have been out now.

However, pease don't abuse and curse him. So because of PTDF, one won't do medical check up and treat oneself if one is ill. What is the essence of my hard work If I can't go anywhere in the world to treat myself. Is it this Nigeria that will replace me same day I die that I would sacrifice for?

He has many things in his mind. Please leave him alone.

That was my 1st step, I've sourced 5 schools in UK which i'll apply to ... writing IELTS in november so i can uuse it for 2 academic sessions..i've practiced for that over and over again

I'm even back reading my bsc text books

Someone has given a site I can practice with tho ...thatss all i needed

I'm looking at 2018 fall to enable me have a solid preparation. Just scared whenever I see GRE questions but with adequate practice, I believe I would excel. Though, I'm looking at January but I read gaining admission through GRE has limitless advantages.

Working currently and my background is not bad. I studied Economics and I decided recently to go for Msc in a finance related discipline.

He just started agreeing with scholastica16 about the holistic approach. His initial post was on the importance of GRE and that people should not downplay it.

The bolded is not correct. This is what I got from the school's site, italicized below.

So they never said get 85% or you are out. At least three out of four criteria, of which we know there are outliers who didn't get as much. Even the 80% stated translates to V158Q160 (318) which many people can get.

There are no specific minimums for the GRE or GPA, however, the successful applicants are those students who are strong in at least 3 out of the 4 areas below:

GPA of 3.7 or above on a 4.0 scale
GRE scores in the 80th-90th percentile in the verbal and quantitative sections
Letters of recommendation
Statement of Purpose (SOP) and Personal Statement (PS)

GRE like every other aspect of an applicant's profile contributes some weightage but the lionization of that weightage is what I am fully against.

If you have been here long enough you'd have known I am a second-time writer myself. Heck, I even advised others to re-write and aim for toppest scores so I believe I am giving a well-rounded, rather than a hastily genaralized purview on the issue.

It was not long ago that someone with a great first and 2nd degree asked for prospective schools for her PhD and when I sighted her <300 GRE I asked her to retake it.

Some other guy saw it and gave contrary advise but to cut a long story short she got 2 fully-funded offers from both schools he recommended. And both were top 150 US schools FYI. In fact, one of the schools that accepted and funded her bounced me yet I more than outdid their GRE, AWA, TOEFL and GPA requirements.

If I was to take the argument that increased competition was my undoing, you may want to delve deeper into the accepted profiles in that school and juxtapose it with mine to make sense of that argument.

You referred to UMich's website but even that is neither here nor there. With your reasoning, GRE scores of 324 and AWA scores of 4.5 or greater are the only stats that would be entertained by the school but a random search on Google can easily disprove this. Take this for e.g someone got accepted into UMich for EE Masters 2017 without GRE and with a 3.68/4 GPA

And I singled this example out because I have reported on this thread in the past how my own cousin in Canada contacted a Prof in UT Austin that was willing to help him waive the GRE requirement just so he could take him on as his PhD Advisor.

My synopsis is as it were; while the GRE plays a role in strengthening the profile of an applicant it will not tip the scale in a close call thus it is overrated. If 2 people being considered have 324 and 332 GRE. But Candidate A either spoke to an advisor, or had better research experiences or significantly better GPA, he would be considered over and above the guy with the better GRE.

That is why I implore people to talk to POIs and Prog coords to make informed decisions based on the feedback they get rather than rewrite GRE to score really well, when doing so may only get you through the front door and not a step further.

I'm looking at taking the GRE exam but when I try to practice questions especially the quantitative aspects, I'm always scared. Is this how it feels or I have to start from the fundamentals. If this is the case, can someone recommend materials that will assist in my study process?
