Yes, plenty. Even schools that require English test for intl students can waive it for you. Just mail them and tell them you are a Nigerian and that your official language is English and that you did your undergraduate studies in English. They may then ask you to forward "English as a Medium" through your school just as you would a Trascript.

I hope to apply for Fall 2018. I can write GRE in 2 months time hopefully. Actually their requirements is 305. But am open to all possible options. My research interest is image and signal processing but I would like to work in a biomedical imaging group.

For fall 2018, you would have a lot of time to prepare and retake another GRE. Top schools like MIT, Stanford, UMich, etc usually have deadlines for fall ranging from Dec 15 - Jan 15. And you can expect similar or later deadlines for other schools. I'm sure you can find that info on the school's website.

Since their requirement is 305 and you have 314, you should have an edge over other applicants assuming they don't have similar scores.

But I don't know about your research area. So it is better you do more googling about schools that offer that program and what their likely GRE scores would be. If you are willing to shoot for a top school, then you can decide if to write another GRE. But work should begin on how to craft an original and exceptional SOP, and what professors to give you outstanding LOR. And also you can start writing professors from likely schools about your research interests and what your thoughts are about their work that you find similar to your topic.

I really dont know about the school but I think its in the top 150 in the US. Again, school ranking is not all encompassing. For instance, Yale is a tier 1 US school, but I would rather go to Georgia tech which is a lower ranking school as an engineering student cos its better in that. So I think what matters is the rating of the program you are going for, the reputation of the professor you will work with and the facilities they have, and most especially FUNDING.

And it's great that you fall within their GRE range. But that's not all. Some things should set you apart.

Now, since you are a PhD student and most PhDs in the US are fully funded, KSU might be a reasonable choice based on your profile.

What term are you looking at applying to? Do you still have enough time to retake the GRE? I think if the average GRE score for the school is 314, and you submit a 325 score, you will automatically stand out and have 99% chance of full funding, ceteris paribus.

In 2015, I could have been fined at Hartsfield Jackson, ATL, but the apples were confiscated. I was surprised that one of the two officers there was a Yoruba man and spoke Yoruba to me despite his American accent, and the other white man asked if I had Garri. Well, I entered without hitches and upon arrival, I discovered that I still took in some apples I had in my hand luggage that they didn't search....hmmmmm.

Funny enough, I never went back to check or ask why vegetables are not allowed until now. Thanks for the info again.

With GRE score of 314, Princeton would be ambitious. But if you have $90 for application fee, you might give it a try. Who knows your research area and publications coupled with strong SOP, LOR can stand you out.

Just an observation sir, I think the whole essence of the PTDF OSS is to train and develop manpower in areas lacking and needing in the O&G sector of Nigeria, so if PTDF scholars do not want to return back to Nigeria on completion of their MSc or PhD, that purpose is defeated. Please when you eventually get the scholarship make efforts to return back to Nigeria, she needs you.

Yes I agree with you. I don't intend to stay put there cos I've been there, done that, got the T-shirt, wore a hole in it, and now use it as a duster. Nevertheless, it is to the advantage of a scholar to get at least a year of OPT so that upon returning with a foreign experience, he/she would have a competitive edge here where jobs are hard to get.

How long is Yankee student visa?

It depends on what duration is stated in your I-20 supplied by the school. But I know that after your studies, as long as you did STEM, you can stay back for up to 3 years for OPT. And that period should be sufficient to gain practical experience and then you can return home.

Port of Entry (POE) Experience

Good day, e-family. Greetings from Indiana. I left Naija on Friday at about 6:30AM, Nigerian time. Arrived Casablanca around 10AM. Layover lasted for 11hours. My connecting flight departed Morocco around 9PM and arrived JFK on Saturday at about 4AM, Nigerian time. I traveled with Royal Air Maroc. My journey was relatively smooth except for minor bouts of turbulence experienced from Casablanca to JFK.

On arrival, I headed to Customs and Border Control (CBP). We were to verify our visas with one machine like that, but it turned out the machine doesn't recognize F1 visas and a couple other visa types. So my verification had to be done manually by a CBP officer. The
queue for manual verification was longer than Mugabe's term in office. Had absolutely no problem waiting though.

Finally, it got to my turn. The CBP officer was a light-skinned man of South American extraction, presumably in his mid-thirties. I presented my passport (had my boarding passes inserted at the visa page), my I-20, and the declaration form given to me on the flight from Casablanca. He returned my boarding passes, verified my visa, took a brief glimpse at my I-20. I even forgot to sign my declaration form, so he gave me to sign it and collected it afterwards. Then he asked me to put the four fingers of my right hand on a biometric machine. After that, he took a snap shot of me and proceeded to stamp my passport. BAM!

There was no much exchange. He did not ask me any single question and he didn't even say "Welcome to the US". I sha carry my passport examined it and saw the stamp. It read, "ADMITTED". A smile of pure satisfaction spread on my lips. I bounced off happily to Baggage Claim.

The journey begins...

That's the reason why I avoided UK like a bubonic plague. You are to return after 4 months if you can't get a job that pays over GBP20,000 p.a., circa cos the PSW was cancelled during Theresa May's tenure as Inland Secretary.

I would like to know if PTDF pays in advance/reimburses scholarship winners transport fare to and fro Abuja plus accomodation for the orientation program.

Your inputs would be appreciated as some of us scholarship hopefuls wouldn't like to be caught unawares with such impending expenses. Thanks.

You shouldn't be surprised to see PhD students here. A 20 year old kid can be admitted to PhD straight in the US after finishing college without MSc. And in Nigeria, increasingly many young people with MSc today are going for PhD cos they are no jobs. While it should be expected for them to act more maturedly, it's not a given.

Still, I agree with your comment about the guy comparing people fallaciously and trying to sway people subliminally towards divulging their competitive advantage.
