oldninja: "Mad country" leave with it or you're free to leave. Just see how easy it is for some people to say rubbish about themselves. Yes you are Nigeria and Nigeria is You!
Yes I can be Nigerian but if I now say may everything happening in Nigeria manifest in ur life. Pls say "Amen"? Am sure u will feel ur village people have come for u? Don't be naive or try to be silly. If Nigerians refuse to stand up to the people leading them and keep on swallowing every BS that is dished out at em nothing will change. Yes for now the country is one for madmen cos in saner countries many things Nigerians take for granted don't happen.
Jesusloveyou: that is what we call hypocrisy Is now you remember supreme court ruling
Am sure u meant hypocrisy of Akpabio and his cohorts of clowns but even if u meant anything else pls direct ur bile to the right source and that is d politicians. Me, I am just here to discuss nothing more besides what is good is good and no need adulterating the truth.
Atiku2019: Lol Akpabio should know better that he's just wasting his Time Our politicians decamp even without internal political fights..... The current PDP situation ( sheriff & Markaffi) can be used as an excuse self...
But why should a serving senator decamp?
U forget the supreme court decision that the party is what is voted and not the person. So electorates that voted a party into office should have their party representative there and not anyother party. In sane countries it is done differently. Nigeria is just a mad country.
agwom: President Muhammadu Buhari says the sophistication involved in the bombings of oil and gas installations in the Niger Delta indicates that those behind it are not ordinary Nigerians, but professionals.
Buhari stated this at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja yesterday shortly after he was decorated as the grand patron of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering (NAE).
President Buhari specifically charged the NAE to appeal to its members not to deploy their skills for the destruction of the the infrastructure built over the years.
He said: “If I will go in the negative side, how can an ordinary Nigerian go into the sea, 70 kilometres or more, go down two meters and blow up oil installations? That cannot be an ordinary Nigerian. So, I hope you will appeal to your colleagues to make sure that what we have built, they should regard it whether they are working with multi-nationals or the government.”
Buhari, who disagreed that Nigerian engineers were under-utilised, said his government would utilise the talents and skills of local engineers to rebuild the nation’s ailing infrastructure.
“If Nigerian engineers are denied their roles, it is not the fault of the profession, it is the fault of some individual governments. Other governments have done their best and found Nigerian engineers competent and cost effective. Nigerian engineers are very quick in up-taking and performing in the field,” he said.
President Buhari also acknowledged that well-trained and highly experienced engineers contributed immensely to the nation’s infrastructural development.
According to the president, both military and civilian administrations over the years depended on Nigerian engineers for designs and constructions across the country.
“By insisting that we must be cost effective in building infrastructure, we will utilise Nigerian engineers. I respect them a lot, and I know it takes time to be trained as an engineer,’’ he said.
He said local engineers contributed more than 90 percent to the design and realisation of two refineries, 2,500 km of pipelines and 20 depots in the country during his tenure as Minister of Petroleum in the mid-1970s.
The president added that the success of the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) was largely hinged on the skills of local engineers.
“Somehow, every time and anywhere I have served in this country, we found it cost effective to use Nigerian engineers, and we relied on their capacity to understudy, learn and deliver,” he stated.
The president said individual political leaders should be blamed for the nation’s ailing infrastructure, not the engineers who, he noted, had always been willing to contribute to national development.
“It will be wrong to fault Nigerian engineers for the failure of refineries. You should blame the political leadership. How can you build and not know how to maintain an asset,” he said.
In her remarks, NAE President Joanna Maduka described science and technology as well as innovation as key drivers of growth across the globe.
She lauded Buhari’s administration’s anti-corruption war, expressing optimism that it would turn around the fortunes of the economy.
Maduka, while urging the Federal Government to explore and engage the multiple engineering talents in Nigeria for more purposeful results, said the government’s effort towards fixing the infrastructure was very crucial to the development of the country.
“The physical indices of development of any country are engineering based like roads, railways, water supply, power, housing and other infrastructure. However, Nigerian engineers are under-utilised for the tasks and challenges of nation building. For the country to attain sustainable growth status, the Nigerian engineers need to be adequately engaged in planning, policy formulation, consultancy and construction as well as industrial processes of production and manufacturing.
“Furthermore, the fact is that Nigeria is grossly under-engineered as there are insufficient engineering professionals taking the population per capita basis. For example, in China, between 2000 and 2013, all the nine members of the standing committee (Ministers) of the Politburo were trained engineers. Currently, about half of the cabinet ministers in Singapore are engineers and in China, 70 per cent of the cabinet are engineers”.
Idiot, they are ordinary Nigerians that have gone to train in guerrilla warfare in East Europe. Am sure Bubu knows that so why deliberately misinform the public?
DONSMITH123: Contrary to opinions in some quarters that the Senate would not approve the N180bn request by President Muhammadu Buhari for the virement of funds appropriated in the 2016 Appropriation Act; the upper legislative chamber on Tuesday dazzled Nigerians by not only approving the said amount; but also increased the virement to the tune of N213,821,671,494.
The Senate also approved additional request of N300m appropriated in the 2016 Budget under the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) for the construction of 132 KVA substation at Gwaram, Jigawa state.
President Muhammadu Buhari had about a month ago written to the National Assembly, requesting that a total of N180bn be approved as virement of funds appropriated in the 2016 Appropriation Act; to attend to some critical capital and recurrent expenditures. The Senate considered the request and referred it to its committee on Appropriations for further legislative action on Wednesday 16th November 2016.
Presenting the report on Tuesday, the Chairman, Committee on Appropriations, Senator Danjuma Goje (Gombe Central) said, “the committee met with its House counterpart and deliberated on the course of action in order to abridge time. And also jointly had an interactive meeting with the affected MDAs on the virement, that is, the source of the funds and the expenditure MDAs in the Budget to clarify the need for the virement.”
To justify the rationale behind approving far above the requested sum, Senator Goje said, “the affected MDAs justified the need for intervention in their respective Agencies and some also made the point that the amount proposed in the request was inadequate to meet the observed shortfall required to carry out their mandate and financial obligations”.
“In the course of the interaction with the MDAs, the committee observed that there are other areas of critical need that are capable of stimulating the economy which additional funds can still be provided with monies vired from the Special Intervention Programme,” he added.
A critical analysis of the report of the Committee shows that the Senate approved the sum of N167,113,304,018 for recurrent expenditures as against the N165,430,886,954 requested for in Buhari’s letter.
The committee also approved the sum of N2,500,000,000 as Statutory Transfer in the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) salary shortfall, instead of N1,200,000,000 requested by the President.
Another look at the report shows that President Buhari requested for the sum of N14,208,367,476 as capital expenditure for Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and Presidential Initiative for the North East (PINE); whereas, the Senate approved the sum of N39,208,367,476.
Though there were divergent of opinions, especially from the opposition members of the Senate on the propriety or otherwise of the recommendations of the committee, majority of the Senators present gave a voice votes in support, thereby adopting the report of the Committee and approved a total sum of N213,821,671,494, in addition to N300m as virement of funds for President Buhari.
kropotkin2: I never insult anyone. Its just that i find that particular statement of yours hilarious. You are hoping that the expertise of your kinsmen in the diaspora would be enough to turn the tide against the Nigerian state should it come to a war. This i find very funny
On the contrary I was not and am not hoping on anything and I am one of those kinsmen u mentioned. I just made a statement cos we here see what is happening in Nigeria. The fact that we are silent for now should scare the government cos he doesn't know what may be happening behind d scene. I just pray it doesn't get to that. Cheers
citizenjuwon: Lalasticlala and mynd44 when will you guys be angry?
Really yet Nigerians rose up in masses to protest the fuel subsidy stuff in GEJ administration cos it was backed by political bigwigs who paid some people peanuts but failed to rise up again as they did when Bubu claimed he removed subsidy. Then u come here to ask us when Nigerians will get angry? To answer ur question, when they stop being used as puppets by agents of political parties and start clearly thinking for themselves
Iam4Atiku: Babatunde Raji Fashola(Former Governor of lagos State )
I once counted close to 99 churches from one end of ado badore road to the other.
"If we pursue our choices with as much conviction as we pursue our faith, we will certainly be a more prosperous society.
Let us remember, that at least the two dominant faiths are not original to us. They are inherited.
The propagators of the faith have made them personal affairs and not public ones.
I have attended meetings in the West and in the Middle East and not on one occasion have these meetings been started or ended with prayers.
Meetings represent public undertakings and places of work and productive undertakings to deliver prosperity.
When those people have worked hard for the week, they go on Fridays and Sundays to their places of worship and their homes to offer prayers, for God to bless and prosper the work of their hands.
Sadly, back home, the head of Governments, heads of ministries, and businesses, devote early mornings at work to prayers with their staff while productive man hours tick away, they do the same at home and on weekends, we socialise.
In effect we spend a lot of time praying and socializing.
How can this lead us to prosperity? If this is not faith influenced by fear, I do not know what it is.
If you visit many construction sites where the Chinese are employed as contractors, you will find that they work on Sundays, but we who have unemployment challenges, do not often work on Sunday.
We have invested a worrisome amount of money in building places of worship compared to what we have in building factories, businesses and schools.
This is worrisome compared to the investments I see in businesses and schools that outstrip investment in places of worship in the West and Middle East.
Recently, while driving along a road of not more than 5 (FIVE) kilometres in a Nigerian city, a colleague and I took an unplanned census of building types and this is what we counted:
a) 1 laundry outfit for washing and dry cleaning clothes (Job place)
b) 3 clinics for healthcare (Job place)
c) 2 petrol filling stations (Job place)
d) 1 bank branch (Job place)
e) 4 shopping outlets (Job place)
f) 1 eatery (Job place)
g) 10 religious houses (Worship place)
As you go around your states and neighbourhoods, I urge you to do a similar count and tell your neighbour what you see.
Again I reiterate, I do not criticise worship, but I am challenging you to think through the choices you will make.
We will not pray our way out of recession, we will plan, and produce our way back to prosperity and out of recession and you are the freshest, youngest and most energetic workforce we will have to work with.
You are the new batteries to power the engine of growth of our country."
How right u are. The thing there is that u won't even be there to talk down at Nigerians if they had followed politica instead od churches
junketer: I really don't understand. Does shoperite own the mall or they just have a shop in the mall? In south africa there is nothing like shoperite mall. Are these malls in nigeria being built by shoperite and the state government? Somebody please explain.
Its stupidity no need racking ur brain. A case of misplaced priority
NOC1: do you know when i saw that comment i scrolled up to view the pics the second time.
that guy is sick upstairs.
Bros u see that kind thing? I too have to go back up and zoomed then unzoomed the pix and then started looking at it pixel by pixel to make sure I didnt miss something but saw nothing. I have to conclude that that commentor is mad beyond reasonable doubt.
BeeBeeOoh: E go be for Buhari one day, JUST ONE DAY..
Bros what they fail to understand is that people will never know that a madman has relatives around him watching his every move till one attacks that madman then his relatives will come out to defend him. The south east have many sons and daughters outside the shores of Nigeria who will return with all their skills to fight for the course they never believed in just as people are fleeing, they will come and fight cos they can relate with the injustice of such an attack. It will be Buhari's or the army's greatest undoing cos it will reunite warring factions of and in the south.
However, I have a problem. At 4:32 she spoke some words which I don't understand: "bo shadada vandasanda". After singing some more, at 4:52, she sang these words "o rerererebo shande yama zeke allelu," which I don't understand either. When I asked for the translation, I was told she was speaking in tongues which, fortunately, can be interpreted by those who have the gift of interpretation.
I hereby call upon Nairalanders with the gift of interpretation of tongues to interpret those words for us so we can fully appreciate the song.
Madam no vex but tongue speaking is over rated and over hyped.
Progressive01: This is one if the biggest pile of nonsense ive ever read. Shoooo! What are they afraid of that they cant reveal the na.e of their so called party to the public even when they claim theyve undergone clerance with government agencies??
No name of the party, not a single name of its promoters. So how is one supoosed to take such people seriously? Are they a secret cult group or something?
Funny u. When Tinubu floated APC have u forgotten how long it took them to reveal the name of the party?
mamaafrik: That is good for south,we can now unite and shell the northern hegemony with our satan(VII) bomb.Imagine,ss+sw+sE+NC coming together, datz gonna be a 330kva voltage sent tru d north's central nervous system, Tell ur neighbour, say neighbour!!,we must unite d whole south and north central.tell him.
Am thinking the same but core westerners, eaterners and southerners wont agree. On another note any party the floats Atiku as flag bearer will loose.
Eddodoh: A week ago, I met this lady and I expressed my love to her. Last Friday evening we talked on the phone and agreed that I would visit her on Saturday as she was going to be free from work.
On Saturday morning, I saw two missed calls from a strange number and I decided to call back, I learnt she's the one and I told her that I would be visiting as earlier scheduled. I visited but while chatting she told me that her phone fell down after we finished talking the day before and the screen got affected and no longer show callers identity. I advised her to take it for check up and probably repair.
The previous day being Sunday, we were together and somehow she brought the issue of the phone. I still maintained that she take it for repair and she said that she prefer HTC phones. I looked and I asked her what she meant. She said that she has a HTC phone that has being with a phone engineer.
I asked for how long and she said that it's being there for almost 3months, she went further to inform me that the Engineer requested for 5k to fix something on the phone that she called Porsche, she also said that the battery got affected too. I asked her if the 5k includes battery replacement and workmanship, she said, no. I kept quiet but deep inside me, I wonder why her phone fell down recently instead of trying to fix it, she now want me to pay for another phone she claimed has being on repair for 3months.
Before I knew it she concluded that we can visit the Engineer today, Monday to know the progress and how to get the phone fix. She has being calling though I have told her that I am still in the office.
To me, I feel that she is up to something, this is someone I just hook up with and even though I have the money, I think that's not the best thing to do.
Your comment, opinion and suggestion is appreciated.
Guy u will soon be paying salary to someone that has no skills and does nothing to earn it.
That will have been interesting to watch had Tinubu not be severely beaten this last few months. Looks like u haven't noticed Tinubu keeps loosing ground every week while Bubu gains ground in APC. The message is quite clear, Tinubu has been demystified. The god of yoruba politics has been made mortal. The sad thing there is that while Tinubu looses alittle of himself every week Nigerians also loose their humanity in the struggle between those infront of the scene, forgetting that is not the reason the people elected them.
JKisOK: I just called a Friend, who is General Manager of a company and very IT-savvy. When I asked him about BLACK FRIDAY, he hissed. He told me it was an anti-climax. The popular companies completely lost the spirit of this concept imported from UK, EU and USA. Many of the sellers "did 419." They jacked up prices beyond normal and announced percentage reductions... no real bargains at all. At the end of the day, you ended up buying an item for its same old price, with virtually no price reduction. Is this true? Please, share your BLACK FRIDAY experience.
Towncrier007: This is a personal experience which I'm sharing here on NL for everyone to wisen up about hiv matters...
I had sex with a lady that tried discouraging me from using a condom, her excuse was that it injures her vagina, it would have been tempting because of how neat and beautiful she looked like, but I refused to give in, it may sound as though am heartless but I don't play with my life when it comes to raw sex. I refuse to succumb to her no sex game. fortunately for me later my friend who works in St Nicholas Hospital (hiv centre) told me that he say that particular girl came around for her retrovirus drugs. fear catch me, as I was left in shock and fear, I then thought hope the condom didn't penetrate or something, reason I was forced to go for a test . Thank God am Negative. so when last did you go for an hiv test?
And u think u are safe from HIV. While I where busy ontop of her did u not kiss her, suck her boobs and what not. It takes about 6 weeks to 10 years for it to manisfest. Beside that fast strip test they do does not completely rule one out. The confirmation test is PCR. I guess u will keep looking behind ur back for the next few years cos u where silly enof for not holding urself.
MizMyColi: Experienced Papas Mamas and Doctors, please help me chook mouth inside this matter o.
So an aunt saw mum bathing my daughter and started asking why we didn't cut off that thing in her hoohaa. I started wailing that it is not even something any mom in this age should consider.
Then she said there is an alternative. That leaving it like that will make her too "active" That alternative is dusting powder. Dusting powder!!!
She says it will kill some cells that cause the need for too much pleasure.
Please don't read and waka pass o. Let us deal with this matter. People need to be aware.
I am concerned because I wouldn't want to my girl to grow up and start being promiscuous. I heard a story of one waka waka lady who claimed that it was because nothing was done to her hoohaa...
Is there even any truth in that? If there is, are there ways one can prevent such?
Should the hoohaa of our female infants be left just as they are? Any risks.
Help please
Blood of babalawo. All these aunts and relatives will not kill someone. I tell u, if u check that ur aunt own and check her children they are still intact. I don't know why our african society is still too backwards in such things. Thats how an aunt came to our house then a started trying to implement her views which she never succeeded doing in her own house. Fear those people.
