Health › ‘nigerians Are Largest Exporters Of Malaria’- Medical Expert Says by drnoel(op): 2:41pm On Jan 28, 2012
An expert on malaria, on Friday, said that Nigerians were the largest exporters of the illness in view of the mobile nature of the citizens.

Dr Luis Benavente, the Director, Improving Malaria Diagnostics (IMAD), a United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-supported organisation, said this at training for laboratory scientists in Lagos.

“Nigeria is the biggest exporter of malaria in the world and it can only be reduced if it is controlled in Nigeria,” he said.

He said that studies had shown that Nigerians were very entrepreneurial and travel to a lot of countries to transact businesses while carrying with them malaria parasites, thereby disseminating them wherever they go in the world.

He added that to control malaria in the world, it had to be controlled first in Nigeria and stressed the need for competent laboratory technicians to diagnose the illness.

Also speaking at the training, Dr Wellington Oyibo, the Consultant Parasitologist, College of Medicine, University of Lagos, said that some clinical examinations misdiagnosed every type of fever for malaria.

He added that when most people experienced feverish feelings, they automatically thought it was malaria and treated it as such. Oyibo warned that the intake of malaria medication for every type of illness would make the body drug-resistant and, therefore, make the illness very difficult to treat.

He stressed the need for microscopic diagnosis which would assess the parasite and confirm if it was malaria or not.
Health › Nigeria Re-infects 3 Neighbouring Countries With Polio by drnoel(op): 2:34pm On Jan 28, 2012
WHO says polio cases in the country have decreased by 95 percent as compared to 2009

The fight against polio in the country may have suffered a huge setback as the World Health Organisation (WHO) has said Nigeria recorded a four-fold increase in the disease in 2011.

WHO spokesperson for the polio programme, Oliver Rosenbauer, who made the disclosure, added that Nigeria re-infected three neighbouring nations which had formerly been declared polio-free.

Rosenbauer, however, maintained that polio cases have decreased by 95 percent as compared to 2009, and remain only where local leaders have not taken initiative for the cause.

"Our analysis shows the extent of local leadership correlates with viral persistence," he said.

According to him, Indian is on the verge of eradicating the disease while Pakistan is still struggling to counter it.

He said the virus was not detected in sewage in India, though cases usually surge during this time of the year.

His comments came after experts warned that if eradication fails now, it would be "the most expensive public health failure in history".

Romance › Re: Does Virginity Matters To A Guy? by drnoel: 11:42am On Jan 28, 2012
This Virginity thing must be a Nigerian man's mentality or orientation. I don't know why its almost always an issue, I for one think its over rated. If u've had a virgin u'd know what am talking about. When I was still in the market, I didn't find it fun going after a virgin cos their headache too much. It was way more sporting and interesting with the experienced chicks. U actually enjoy urself when u have one. The problem is that most Nigerian girls have this funny mentality that guys prefer virgins so after they've played around in their youth, they tell a potential proposer that they are Virgins. If u've had that experience b4 u'd know what am talking about. Its not just in what she says, its also in the way most of them act. Its sometimes easy 2 know when a chick is lying about if she's a virgin or not. But then, Nigerian men just want a little honesty. Most guys don't care if she is a virgin, as long as she is not a LovePeddler, doesn't give her favors easily. If she is humble, and knows how 2 take care of her man. Who won't want her?

Foreign Affairs › Un Declares Boko Haram Number 1 Terror Group In 2012, Britain Eager 2 Assist by drnoel(op): 9:00pm On Jan 27, 2012
ALTHOUGH offering once again the help and assistance of the United Nations in the fight against Boko Haram,

UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, has asked the Federal Government to mobilise the needed forces to quell the Boko Haram terror attacks, just as he lamented that the situation in Sudan and South Sudan continues to be testy.

Speaking on Wednesday afternoon at his first press conference in the year, as he begins his second term of five years in office, the UN Secretary-General affirmed his condemnation of the Boko Haram menace as a terrorist act that the global community has to come together and fight.

In response to a question on why some of the UN statements refrain from describing the Boko Haram attacks in Nigeria as a terrorist act, Ban said “I have, on many occasions, strongly condemned these terrorist attacks by Boko Haram, including that time of the attack against the UN House last year.”

But at the press conference held in New York, the UN scribe added that “the Nigerian government should also mobilise full possible forces to address these Boko Haram terrorist attacks.”

Promising that the UN on its part “will coordinate with the concerned parties, international organisations and regional organisations,” to address the problem, he disclosed that he had already made a specific proposal on Wednesday while meeting the UN General Assembly.

That proposal which will strengthen UN capacity in the area of counter-terrorism, according to him, includes the need to have “a single coordinated counter-terrorism mechanism combining the currently existing functions.”

Romance › Re: Why Would A Man Hide His Female Friends From His Girlfriend? by drnoel: 6:55pm On Jan 27, 2012
Depends alot on the person. I remember then in school guys that are not very proud of their girlfriends would hide the girl 4rm his friends. It could be cos he doesn't think the girl is presentable or so. It may also be that he likes the girl so much so wants 2 really get 2 know her b4 he introduces her. A friend of mine refused 2 introduce his girlfriend 2 his friends until after he had wedded her. So like I said, it depends on the guy.

U won't know how stressful it is 2 date a Virgin till u actually meet one. I had my share and I found the experienced girls more sporting than the virgins. Beside these days even wolves wey don tear both eyes go tell u say she be virgin (I don't know why this is common with a lot of Nigerian girls).

hmm this man like say u be teacher or lecturer. See as u give everything marks, besides what do u have about his saving money with her. She is supposed to be his wife to be right. Look, its different strokes for different people. If he does it and it works, then fine. If it does not, then fine. I know someone that sent his fiancee all the money they used to get married into her account. She organized it all even b4 his returned 4 his wedding. Like I said it depends.

She has 2 confront her husband but not to fight cos she has to think about her children. Talk 2 the man not just 2 him, but try 2 appeal 2 his soul. If he has a conscience he will sober up. Pls don't make him look a fool, or play the hurt one. The situation has escalated for that one and its too late to play hurt. Saving the situation is what u have 2 do now. Try 2 make him see thing ur way. The man may want the love-child. If that is the case and as long as ur husband is not in love with the woman, then make a settlement with the lady 2 give-up the child to u after its birth. If its a young girl she will gladly do so. Handle the situation like an adult. After the situation is settled, they will be time to curtail hubby's excesses.

KateSpade:
Yes,
One of my friends met my bf and she didn't like him. Told him I should dump him, and then proceeded to recommend men she was friends who and who she thought  I should be interested in. I can't break up with someone just because a friend wants me to.  And this isnt the first time she has tried to get her friends to break up with their bfs/gfs if they dont have her approval. If everyone in my life hated him, it would be a diff story. long story short. Still got my bf and my friend.

Also had an old bf told me that he hated my friends and that I should stop beings friends with them. Clearly, I had known the friends for over 8 yrs and only dated this guy for 2 months at that time. Told him to get over it, he did.

I dont take ultimatums.
It depends. B4 I got hitched I didn't like must of my girlfriend's (now my wife) friends. We had some misunderstanding about it then and later settled it. Ya, she said she's known them b4 she met me and all but as human being we don't see everything around us. Sometimes its people around us that points things out b4 we realize that they must be right. Anyway, she realized the ladies were not her true friends when some of them started getting at her and one of them asked her if she won't mind sharing me. That really freaked her out. She cut most of them out then. Much to my relief.
