Ok.

But for what it's worth, valarinz has never claimed to be blameless and spotless like you. Its just sad that you are no different from the rest.

I'm sure you still sell genuine oils because I'm pretty certain when you eventually start producing synthetic oils in your backyard by mixing different mineral blends and resealing, you will not be sensible enough to keep it away from the public.

At least we can bank on that.

Just another Nigerian Fraudulent dealer like the rest of them.

He was trying to make a failed point, which I didn’t even understand so I ignored. How’s installing a Tokunbo engine on a car bad, in fact that’s the closest in reliability to buying a direct foreign used car. I bought similar Camry In 2018 like Dru23 described. Car kept shutting oil, Kept spending money on mechanics removing my engine and looking for leaks till I ended up buying a Tokunbo engine and had peace of mind.
Peace of mind.. What is the mileage on the Tokunbo engine...

Funny guy .. My question is would you have bought that 2018 Tokunbo car knowing that the seller change the engine ?

Do you know that this same 20w50 oil you’re bad mouthing has its full synthetic versions from most major oil brands like Mobil. Valvoline. Liquimoly. etc? If you use that oil weight in a country that never sees very cold weather your engine will be fine although some newer engines from 2010 above tended to have tighter tolerances in oil passages and recommended lighter weight oils exclusively in their manuals.

True story my dad purchased a new car back in 2005 and after the first year warranty changes at the dealership he started using Mobil XHP and changed it religiously every 4-5k kms or twice a year and till date that engine has never consumed a drop of oil, has no sludge, never smoked or developed any issue. When he wants to change the oil it would still look amber/golden as if the oil had never even been used. His mechanic takes it to use in his generator. It’s a toyota 2RZ EFI engine that has been using Mobil super XHP 20w50 conventional oil for 15 years till today.

Even i myself that uses synthetic 5w30 my oil must be black by 5k kms when I’m supposed to change it out so I believe in everything concerning vehicles timely maintenance is key.
Why did your dad wait till it is out of warranty to start using 20w50.......

20w50 is for old engines my brother.. It is very hard to see it here in Yankee.. It is not commonly sold here.....

For any major damage to occurred .. You said your dad bought the car brand new since 2005. He has been using 20w50 etc.. How often does he drive the car? Does he do up to 12k miles a year.. With Lagos traffic like New York and over crowding all over the place. How often does he drive the car for any damage to really occurred.. I doubt it that much...

Some cars will have head gasket issue . you might not know. But the more you drive it the more the problem will eventually come to surface ............

20w50 is not a common oil here in the states. You really have to go find it .. It is not commonly sold here. Modern engine have tighter clearance and 20w50 will be too thick for such

Mr Andrew, pls don't go this route.
You made a mistake then peeps here pointed it out to you.
Just own it and move on instead of throwing jabs.
The op raised an issue, you started talking about 20w50 oyel.
You didn't even address the issue at hand.
This thread isn't a 20w50 or 5w30 debate group.

Oil has dried in his engine, what should he do?
For issues that happened almost 10 years ago.. The Op u mention does he have clean hands.. Let me tell something and pay attention closely........

First of all . I buy my cars from private seller, to online sellers.. So full disclosure is at my finger tips And in reality I don't depend on car sales to eat . depending on request I can ship about 12 cars a year depending on request. Unless am shipping to use on uber........

Now most of your car dealers here, car sales are their main source of income.. This guys ship double the cars or triple the cars I ship.. Since most of them buy via auction site.. The margin of error of bad cars with engine is will be high , parts etc will be high........ And these guys will do anything to sell their cars , especially when they are lossing money.. Most already don't make that much to start with.. And many of these guys roll back the mileage of the car . So are buyers aware of these things? And the cars that these guys post here on nairaland are the goods ones , so what happens to the bad cars they are not posting ...........

So please don't come at me like that. You need to think objectively.. Please you are coming at me for something that occurred almost 10 years ago or u forgot to read that part..........

Your focus and concern should be dealers that sells cars full time bases.

This is so sad.

Where do Foreign used parts popularly called tokumbor come from?

They are mostly parts from accidented and salvaged vehicles from Europe, Canada and Japan, USA . Etc

The only reason why most people sell used cars with mechanical issues in the USA is because of the cost of LABOUR! Labour is cheap here in Nigeria and so you can buy a Camry with a bad engine for 1000 bucks, ship it real cheap here.

Buying tokumbor engines is even a good thing since you didn't say he repaired them.

To start with TOKUNBO engines.. When buying tokunbo engines in Nigeria, you don't know how long that engine has been used.. That engine might look good , but more than likely has more miles..
Unlike the USA , you can call the junk yard and they can tell you the mileage on the engine. The lower the mileage of the engine the more expensive it cost.......

Most importers that come to buy parts in the USA or elsewhere like u said will look for salvage cars to buy. The salvage car could have 200k plus miles on it. And the same engine that will be sold in Nigeria market....

Now would it make sense for me to buy a tokunbo car in Nigeria knowingly that the engine has been replaced in Nigeria with Tokunbo engine. Without knowing the true mileage of the car ? To me I will not do that.. And am sure the seller will not tell the buyer. It decreases the value of the car ......

And once there is engine replacement, the car will never be the same as manufacture fitted engine. A good mechanic that knows his onions, will tell you that the engine has been replaced ........All these things devalues the car....

And I doubt ur friend Val discloses this information to buyers......

Now the question remains why do Nigerian imports so many engine into the country? Why do we keep replacing our engine at such a high rate. Any other parts might not sale .. But engine parts will always sell no matter the condition.......

In the USA or Europe will follow owners manual to prevent us from changing engine.. It is very expensive and labour intensive.....

Since you are still drinking Panadol for somebody else issue that happened almost 10 years ago More than likely the person use the car and pass on it to the next person and they continue using their 20w50 xhp . And the next person will pass it on to the next .. And the next person will continue using 20w50 xhp .. The 20w50 circle continues........

As much as you owns your car, I am talking from experience. Last year December, Dec 22 precisely, I bought a green colour Camry 03 from someone that needs some cash and the person uses 20W50. As at then, I already owned a gold colour big daddy which I bought in 2019 as toks which I have been using 5W30 full synthetic oil and I change it twice a year.
A day after Easter Monday this year, the green color oil pump failed and spoilt the metal bearing. From my research and some technicians verdicts, the thicker the oil, the more power and force it requires for oil pump to pump the oil. I repaired it and sold it on July 9th and bought Camry 2012 that is on Castrol 5W30 full synthetic.
The gold Camry is V6 VVTi, cool as ever, 5W30 lubricate well than 20W50, I have never add any fluid including coolant since I have bought it and it is the car I travels with which is the reason I bought V6 and I lives in Ibadan but works in Lagos Island.
So whether you change the oil even 2k miles or 500miles, that oil is too tick for Camry 03 and upward oil pump.
It is the oil pump weakness that mostly damage engine parts especially crankshaft and metal bearings because they won't get enough lubrication.
The Mobil 1 full synthetic 5US Quartz I uses is 23k as at last month from Jumia and I change it at least twice a year. I do accrue minimum of 10k miles in a year. Calculate the amount you will spend in a year on thicker oil and calculate mine and see who saves more.
One thing 20w50 does is its silent any noise that the car might have......From experience again watching mechanic.. Once the car has piston, or rod issue the mechanic will use 20w50 oil to silence the noise instead of them to fix the car.......

Continue using the recommended oil. The manufacture of the car know better... People that fail to do so , you should buy Innonson motor.. After all the car is built by a Nigerian and made for Nigerians ....... Instead of them to buy Innonson cars they wouldn't buy it .....

Also like you said , a thinker oil will force the oil pump to work harder to be able to pump the oil.

If for some reason they want to use thicker oil .. Common sense will tell them to use 5w40 ... At least u move up a notch from 5w30 to 5w40 ... I mean this is common sense.........

Do you wonder why Nigerians import so many car engines into ... The level of replacement of engine in this part of the world is an eye sore ..... No matter how slow parts might be .. I say it no matter how slow parts business might be ... If you bring in engines to sell , people will rush before they rush anything else.....Why is it so my brother .....the level of engine replacement in Nigeria is crazy bro ...........

If i bring in 40ft container of just engine today.. Trust that engine will be gone .. They will rush it , parts dealers will be begging you to sell to them.. Just engines alone.....
...

Now in the USA when you buy a brand new car. And the car comes with warranty. Do you know that if you use the wrong oil and the car gets damage. It will void the warranty.. Why don't we follow instructions in this part of the world..........

For those saying that oyel I want sell ... If I wanted to I could bring in 20w50 oyel to sell. But I know for a fact it is not the right oyel for most cars ..... It is for old cars built years ago .. And apart from that you can barely see 20w50 oyel to buy in the USA.. It is not very common oil..........please like I said continue to follow owners manual...........sorry for long ranting

How many engines of does tokunbo xc90 have u change... You stated that you let any potential buyers know of such changes.......

My theory here is most of those xc90 are auctions vehicle.. Meaning from the ones that have engine issues to blown gaskets. Am sure when u do get them u change the engine without letting the buyers know of such. Now in my case, it is different because I avoid auctions cars as much and deal with private sellers that want to sell the vehicle..........

Now from experience from doing uber and selling cars. You have mechanics that are so good in replacing engine that when a buyer comes, he / she will not know the difference if engine has been replace .. It takes a patient mechanic to detect any such things..so all that bull sh#t u said u let buyers know of any changes like engine replacement to be specific is all smoke and mirrors

Car Talk › Re: Honda Accord 2011 Engine Issue by dru23(m): 8:55pm On Oct 09, 2021
asomix22:
Good evening.
I changed my Honda Accord Engine this year. After about 2 months coming back from a road trip, the engine knocked. A mechanic said the knock is due to the oil pump not supplying.

I got a new engine 2 weeks afters and in less than two weeks, i was hearing a noise from the car, so i chacked and someone said its the adjuster that is making noise.

The mechanic now came to pick the car with thr hope of changing the adjuster. After changing it, the noise persisted. That lead to the mechanic checking the engine and upon checking, the Camshaft was bad. Again, the mechanic said the oil pump failed and that was what led to the damage.

I will like to understand the likely cause. Two engines in less than 4 months.

Please note that i used different mechanics to install the two engines.
This oil pump issue can be many. The oil pump issues can depend on the oil you are using . 2011 cars might not be able to tolerate thicker oil.........

The use of thicker oil like 20w50 can cause great damage to your oil pump. Due to the thickness of oil, your oil pump was not able to pump enough oil to lubricate the moving parts of the engine... In that situation you will need to replace the oil pump, not fix it but replace totally.......

Since you keep changing engine. It is very important to check for sludge anytime you buying new engine. You should have a mechanic open the engine cover to check for sludge.......

Times are hard now, it is very difficult to get parts due to the high dollar rate . meaning u will more than likely run into naija used engines package as tokunbo engine.........

I do run Honda civics 2003 to 2005 on uber. I can have my mechanic take a look at it for you. His job is to give his opinion on what might be wrong. But I don't want to get involve in him fixing the car .... He can only give his assessment only.......

Reach me at dru23@hotmail.com . To see how I can better assist you .

When sending me an email title it Honda Accord oil pump issue.. I get lots of email daily so I know which ones are important......
