You are a wicked man sha, whatever the person who bought the car from you goes through, you don't care no more, you've collected your stipends.
To imagine you even have the effrontery to brag about it on a public forum, you should hide your head in shame So all those Volvo that you bought Tokunbo and than replace the engine. You inform the buyers of these changes etc.... So a buyer will come to buy Tokunbo car from you. And than u tell the buyer " by the way my Oga I change engine ) the one that came with it no good ..... So you want us to believe that crap ? Like I said early on cars that I post here are bought and inspected by me. I avoid auction cars if I can . now the ones I buy from private owners online . Will come with full disclosure from the seller. Unlike many others that depend on auction site. On auction site you are at higher risk of getting lemon cars... Anyone that buys naija used cars are their own risk. There is a reason those cars are cheap ... Me personally I will never buy naija used cars .........once my uber cars start giving issues I sell it off via my mechanic.............. Below are some of the cars I bought for customers this year......... We can go back and fourth all day... I have your time today, last last na you go tire

Thanks baba A " tokunbo" engine that has sludge is not always a good sign . The sludge may have more than likely damage something internally ...... That been said . once the sludge has been successful clean out .. Henceforth use the recommended engine oil which is 5w20 .. Use full synthetic high mileage oil . full synthetic cleans and prevent sludge. And the remaining sludge hidden in the engine will wash out every time u do an oil change... And full synthetic oil depending on the formulation of the brand additives will give u a longer oil change interval |

xperiencelove: Chai! This is evil. That was how one guy was arguing with me few days ago about using 20W 50 for Camry 05 and change it every 2k miles. 20W 50 is a silent killer for any Camry from 03 upward. Also I do advice people to never buy ANY Nigeria used car that the owner doesn't use factory recommended oil. I spoke about that early on .. I was accused of trying to market oyel .. I just shook my head... One guy stated that he has been using 20w50 for his 2007 corolla . And he changes oil every 2k miles and his engine runs quiet etc ........ At times thicker oil will keep engine noise down. It does not solve that problem.. At times mechanic will use 20w50 to silence a knocking engine sound. Depending how bad the sound is .....it might work and at times it works well enough to fool any suspecting buyers...... |

ayomilore: Auto gurus in the house please help me out with this, i checked wify car this morning because its been some days i drove it last only to discover that the dip stick is not showing oil traces when i dip it inside the engine, i tried it like 2 more times i went to start the engine so that i can check on the dash board for any strange sign, i bent down to look for any leakages no traces, but couldn't get any only the top iol sign that briefly showed and dissappeared. Though it's up to 3 months we did the last servicing and we are planning another one this weekend but im worried that no traces of oil on the dip stick until i start the car and checked again before i could see sign on one side of the stick..
Thanks as i await your useful response This is not a good sign at all . if there was sign of leak on the ground . Than good news at least u can try to trace the leak ... But if there is no sign of any leaks at all .. It means the oil is burning somewhere and more than likely the engine is bad .. You can always ask for a second opinion .........what type of oil were u using? My experience from my uber cars .. During my early yes of uber with no experience with car maintenance. I used a 2003 camry at the time on my fleet. I was using 20w50 xhp The engine kept shorting oil with no sign of leaks on the ground and little white smoke coming out at morning start up very little smoke. So my mechanic advice to top the engine with 20w50 and sell the car.. So anytime a buyer comes to look at the car . we start the car up to clear up the smoke before any buyer shows up . And that is how we were able to sell the car .. And from there on I vowed never to use 20w50 oil again....... |

@Gazzuz The previous owner has been using the car like that. Don't change anything.. I don't see any point and reverting to factory settings is no point.. My experience from selling cars and doing uber. People tend to sell their car due to issues they foresee or current issues... You just have to observe the issues right.... One thing you can do for now, have a mechanic remove the engine cover . check for any sign of sludge. If there is no sludge at all than you are lucky so far . but if there is sludge, that means you are in trouble of unforseen issues... |

Phargbemmy: Good morning house.
Please house, I just got a Naija used civic 2008 from Phase 1 and instead of using the oil specification of 5w20, guy man has been using Mobil XHP and he said its what he has been using to service the engine.
Please kindly advise:
1. if I can continue with this trend,
2. If I should buy an engine flusher and revert back to the 5w20.
And on transmission, guy man has been using the one that I will post it photo here. Your candid advise. Bought the car from Lekki Phase 1 Thanks in anticipation
@luvinhubby
@kokomo
@Rumundele We agree that 20w50 is not the recommended oil .. Since the previous owner has been using 20w50 more than likely for long period of time . There is no use going back to 5w20... You will continue changing oil every 3k miles to avoid sludge (penny wise pound foolish) not ur fault . if the car has not sludge up already. Mobil xhp cost about 9k naira for 4liters........ For transmission fluid.. The recommended fluid by the manufacture is pic below ..Honda Civics engines are known to take abuse... I know these because I have 03 to 05 Civics on uber. I love those little work horses. But their transmissions will not tolerate abuse. I know these because have replace about 2 transmissions in the past... Failure to use the correct fluids will end in tears. Am sure there is a reason for car been sold.......... Maybe the previous owner was having transmission issue that were happening sporadically while driving. Only God knows maybe after you driving it for a while and transmission gets hot and not shifting they way it suppose is when u will now know........... Whether to revert back to manual recommended transmission fluid is a tough choice. I wouldn't do it, transmission fluid is not something you change frequently .. Even Changing frequently while using correct fluid , can still damage the transmission.... Either way good luck

Does less than $500 sound expensive to you? Will 200k difference stop you from buying a brand new car if the price is N20m.
Imagine N20m vs N20.2m. Meanwhile you call one expensive and the other one is what then?
Why do you think they are in the same class? Even in price (brand new), they are perfectly in the same class. Please take notes.
Team Toyota no wan hear anything. Apart from their Luxury division.... Am not really a big fan of their cars........ We can go all day with comparison..... As we go up in different models of car comparison in its class. Toyota can still cost more whether by large or small amount.. Below is 2021 Rav4 vs 2021 Honda Crv .. Toyota cost more by a $1000.... adanny01: The word you used, cheap, is an adjective.
The word I used, cheaper, is a relative adjective.
When something is cheaper, it means in comparison to another.
When i mentioned "could", I made my statement open , that means it could be cheaper but may not be correct everytime. If i intended to say Toyota is cheap, i will not waste my time to say "could be cheaper".
You didnt read the red words from me. You got me totally wrong.
If i said Toyota is cheap, i will be the one to tell myself i am "100% very wrong" before you had the opportunity to. Yes I get you when u said comparison to other brand in its class...... Now word "could" should not have been mention. When comparing Toyota to other brands in its class been cheaper. There is no second guessing could, might be or maybe etc .. Toyota is expensive brand new..... Now apart from the recall issues Toyota had with some of the cars in the past and a few recalls here and there. Since Toyota is still most preferable car brand in the world. People that buy Toyota brand new from tend to keep them for a long time. The believe is that once bought brand new and paying the extra cost than its competitors. The car will last time without breaking down or until they get tired of it .. Some of these owners will past it down to their kids. And the most important thing is the low yearly maintenance cost that attracts buyer. Most Toyota owners will tell you all you need to do is follow owners manual and do oil change.. That is the thing with Toyota cars follow owners and do the require oil change........ And this why Toyota cars last they way it last today . This is why car owners in Nigeria are able to enjoy. The cars are well maintain in abroad and when it gets to Nigeria it gets abuse imagine if it was abused before it got to naija. There won't be anything left at all for Nigerians to enjoy...........keep in mind Toyota assures buyers if maintain properly the car will last the intended time period......... The only car that is cheaper and durable in its class could be the Honda cars and Hyundai .. The Hyundai are sneaking up in prices too |

adanny01: This resale value of a thing is a misplacement of priorities.
First, every Toyota car is always more expensive to buy used than any other brand in its class. However, the Toyota could be even cheaper to buy brand new.
What does that tell you, the only people who cash in on resale value are the people who bought the Toyota brand new.
In buying a used car, the depreciation is same. For example; buy the Camry at N6m and sell it after 2yrs for N4m and you lost N2m. On the other hand, buy the Accord at N5.5m and sell it after 2yrs for N3.5m and you lost exactly the same amount of N2m.
Resale price is not an advantage with a Toyota, the only thing i will admit in resale is not the value, its the demand which enables the resale quicker. |

xperiencelove: Is your engine still run quietly as it was when it was bought as Tokunbo? Why changing oil every 2k miles when you can buy an advance synthetic oil that will last 6k-8k miles even when manufacturers prescribed 10k or 15k miles on them? Also with 20W 50, your oil pump will be getting weaker by the day and this is what will degrade your bearings and/or crankshaft.
I have the same Camry 06 which I uses 5W 30 advanced full synthetic since mid 2019 I bought it as toks and if I'm coming behind you, I have to make use of horn for you to know a car is at your back. Even cars brought in from Qatar uses same factory recommended 5W 30. That is why cars imported with over 250k miles still runs quietly and the one with 135k miles in Nigeria already sounding like grounding machine. I wonder o. I try to explain to him that is been penny wise and pound foolish . he said am trying to market oyel to him.... Even him using the recommended oil of 5w30 is too late .. It will cause more problems .. Toyota cars are the most abused cars on the road. I will never buy a naija used one 4liters of Mobil xhp is roughly 9k naira . So he will be changing oil every 2k miles , not including labour cost of roughly 3k naira each oil change and changing oil filter each time too And I bet u he does not change oil filter with every oil change too. |

Grupo: Do the analysis for Mobil full synthetic.
Hope you know it's advisable to change full synthetic oil after six months whether you reached 5k miles or not?
So let's say I do oil change two times in a year with full synthetic oil, I'd be looking at around 70k naira for the oil alone in one year.
I have not added filter and service charge.
Also, your claim that my engine is clean because I do short trips is false.
If anything, short trips are more detrimental to an engine and should cause more harm and sludge even.
Highway driving doesn't negatively affect engine more.
You have only shown that you are ignorant and only want to sell your synthetic oil.
I'm not de-campaigning synthetic oil. They are great.
But saying that normal mineral oil will damage engine with regular changes is false and fear mongering just to sell your products. No need for name calling ... Not to sound disrespectful at all. Looking at your engine bay of your car . The car looks like it is meant to get you from point A to B . so less attention to detail will be apply. We all have cars like that in too. But if it was dream car more attention will be place on detail...... So I get you .... You stated it is advisable to change full synthetic every 6months. That is false statement........depending on your driving condition or owners manual .. Full synthetic should be change every 3months or every 7k miles. Whichever comes first...it is not good for Oil to be sitting too long in the engine. So pretty much you are aware I do uber. And I have few cars on uber platform. We can agree that an uber clocks at least 2k miles a months.. And also the most commonly used oil among uber drivers is Mobil xhp 20w50 conventional oil. So we going to use me as case study..... My oil of choice is super Tech Advance 20k miles oil change.... We going to break down the cost of oil every 10k miles .... Super Tech Advance = 22500k Fram oil Filter 15k miles change= 7k naira Labour For oil Change = 3k Due to wear and tear of driving on uber. I change my oil every 10k miles . I don't go the full 20k miles on advance super tech . So every 10k miles or 3months ... I spent 32500k Since my filters are high grade and good for 15kbmiles oil change. I only change once every 10k miles....Labour cost is just once every 10k miles..... Super Tech every 10k miles.. 32500k Your cost break down every 10k miles using Mobil xhp 20w50 ........ 8500k by 3= 25500k Oil filter 2k naira by = 6k Labour for Oil change 3k naira per oil change = 9k For every 10k miles oil change you do . you spend 40500k naira ............ By using fully synthetic oil like I do .. You can save urself 8k naira per every 10k miles......... For my personal cars .. If am using Super Tech Advance for 20k miles.. I will use the same method and change oil every 10k miles...... So please continue using 20w50 for your car. Once you get a nice tokunbo car . you can give me a Buzz.

Grupo: I do mostly city driving and occasional high way.
I live in a small town, that point A to B is always less than 10 miles.
I do cover 2k miles in three months. And sometimes, I don't get to 2k in three months, but I still change the oil.
Works for me. May sound penny wise, pounds foolish to you. So basically let us say you change oil every 3months. Meaning you change oil 4times a year....Let us break down your spending for the year...... Mobil xhp 8500k = 34k for the year Oil change labour 2k = 8k for the year Oil filter 2k naira. = 8k for the year So your total spending on oil changes for the is 50k naira.... This is rough estimates, it should be more .. My point here is that you can save yourself money and time ...... Now the reason why your engine looks clean is that you don't drive that much . I really doubt 20w50 is the recommended oil for your car . now for you to really damage your engine with 20w50 . You have to drive the car long enough .. All those short trips here and there will not really damage anything regardless how frequent you change ur oil .... I don't want to go into any further details to avoid unnecessary back and fourth ......... |

I use Mobil 20W 50. And I change the oil at 2k miles and below sometimes. My engine is still clean, no sludge.
I believe that once your engine still has the thermostat which helps the engine reach operating temperature and you change oil regularly, then you won't have sludge.
See my engine when I opened it some months back. It is penny wise and pound foolish.. Mobil xhp 4liters is roughly 8500k to 9k Naira for 4liters.. Depending how you drive it means you are doing oil change every month. By the time you add up the cost of labour for Oil change and filter , you are basically spending close to 12k naira every 2k miles.......now if you use full synthetic u can save more depending what brand of synthetic you are using........ Unless you are not telling us something.. Coz nowadays people buy used engine oil to service their cars.... Abi you drive ur car 2k miles for the whole year.... |

Steering rack being welded... Lol... C as u just make me laugh like mumu dis kind night... Can one weld cast? Or Don't you know most car component are cast. Oga follow who know road u no gree. Even b4 ur brother innosin started building cars many Nigerians in the east and north have been building cars let alone to convert ordinary RHD to LHD.
What are they changing? Only steering rack, evaporator and dashboard? How is that a rocket science? Don't people change steering rack on their car due to leakage? So what's strange about changing steering rack again. Oga stop talking ignorantly talk like one that is expose and educated biko.
Don't people change dahboard? Or you haven't seen car owners change evaporator b4 for their cars? So why are you talking like these things are rocket science.
What wiring are you talking about here? Haven't you seen a car gone through total re-wiring due to fire accident or something else? Besides, there is no need for rewiring even because electrical wiring is already designed with extra length should one needs extension. So all that is needed is just to re-sucket back to its normal position simple!
When ever you're in the country let me know I'll take you around so dealer's stands and car owner's lots to identify a converted car then you'll see how clueless you'll become
Even some cars you guys ship into Nigeria are converted, oyinbo do it as well, convention is a common thing all over the World because right road driving is more common in the world than left road driving but if they don't tell you, you won't know?
Somebody that usually upgrade and convert hybrid cars to petrol na ordinary change of dashboard, rack and evaporator go come be problem to am. Oga abeg pack well if you need contact let me know I'll freely connect you not trying to get it through the back door
You and I know very well Nigerians are talented people (you excluded because you're not a Nigerian you know that ) but one bad and foolish government are the problem.
So stop spreading lies and falsehood around, ask questions if you're not clear about something. You write a book doesn't mean I must agree to everything you say. [/s] So much for your engineering degree no wonder why engineering companies have not been calling you for second interview The uber that you are doing self, u have been block many times. From dropping riders at 2am on 3MB to blaming Buhari for your problems From vexing for me for stylishly collecting my car from u than ranting on nairaland that I didn't give you notice before collecting my car to begging for Jamican rice at lekki phase 1 . Than from another partner that collected their car .And than walking home with just nylon bag with all ur belongings inside And now to buying converted Benz known for electrical issues . O my goodness the list never end.
