Ran those codes. Its not clear to me exactly what you say is going wrong. The mid is like the sub container housing a left and right sidebar, i suppose. Or is it housing a left side bar and then content on the right? i.e. is <?php include_once('right2.php'); ?> your content or a right sidebar?

I am guessing you have a setup like
<div id="nav_bar">
        <ul>
                <li><a href="yada yada" id="first">yada yada</a></li>
                <li><a href="yada yada">yada yada</a></li>
        </ul>
</div>

Put a right border on the anchor
border-right:solid #000 1px;
set the right padding to get the bar right where u want it between the list items.

something like

#nav bar ul li a{
    border-right:solid #000 1px;
    padding-left: 10px;
    padding-right: 10px;
}


One thing though is tat with the padding-left you may have made the first item in the nav bar go out of any previous alignment it had.
You can isolate that first item with its own ID and set padding-left to zero and give it the important kini (whatever its called).

If you look at the html above u see i have given it an ID of "first"

Now here's what the css for it will be like

#first{
   padding-left: 0; !important
}

Ehn no wahala naw. Just be putting content, it will keep going down. The height doesnt know about the background. It only cares about the content in the div.

so if you have something like
<div id="mid"></div>

and u have
#mid {
height: auto;
width: 900px;
background: url(works/mid.png) repeat-y;
padding-left: 10px;

}


You wont see anything until u put content in the div like
<div id="mid"><p>where my money?</p></div>

In my experience the CSS height property doesnt see image set in the css background property as content and setting it to auto wont make it "grow" with the background pic.
You can use <img src="works/mid.png" alt="yada yada" /> in your html.

Collins that's some nice stuff you're dreaming of and I would like to see you realise it.

There are many ways to do that, here's one I use.

Create a container
create the header portion
create the nav portion right after it.


<div id="container">
<div id="header"></div>
<div id="nav_bar">
<ul>
<li>yada yada</li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>

You can assign the container a fixed width.
If you want the header and nav bar to be same width with the container, no need to specify a width for them, they'll just inherit width attribute from their mom, the container.
Please dont resort to Dreamweaver to get this done. For the purpose of learning, please try to do this in a plain editor like notepad or notepad++.

I don't really know much about blogging, but i think its possible to align things well there. Have one left side bar and one right sidebar, both of equal width. Then have the content area in the center with a wider width. Then, the ads, place them at good places that wont scatter the flow of your content. Hope this helps, if it doesn't I'll have to look at the site again and remix my suggestion.
