Raxxye: The realization is sad, but true. Many nairalanders are now those waiting for WAEC results,JAMBites or at best undergrads. What Seun should do is to make it a requirement that u upload ur degree cert b4 registration on NL, or create NAIRALAND FOR KIDS, where discussions will be strictly “academics“ and “respect for elders!“

TravelRe: Britain Warns Nigeria Over Threat To Ban Virgin & British Airways by dubem3(m): 11:30am On Mar 28, 2012
Callotti: What exactly is the disagreement now?

Could it be because of the cost of operations as opposed to 'fleecing' Nigerians?

I don't really take the Nigerian angle seriously. . .there needs to be further investigation for accurate presentation of FACTS!
i think the write up was clear & unambiguous enough...one or two thousand dollars above Whats been charged passengers from neighbouring countries is really outrageous, and to think they are bent on leaving it that way threatening sanctions is baffling and leaves much to be desired. My opinion is, if we have an inkling of sovereignty left in the entity called nigeria, ban the stupid idiots and bear the consequences. its a price that is worth paying. But am sure the idiots we have asked to manage our affairs will in the name of diplomacy concede. Tomorrow you'll stand ur lean bones on a podium and tell me about sovereign entity... Nonsense

maninmood: One question, why was Muhammed so thirsty of human blood to the extent that he ordered you guys to be killing non-muslims? Don't you have eyes to see every one of you is terrorist? Muhammed deprives you guys of good life. And encourages you to kill other people that values good life. Have you ever read about Islam being invented by Catholic pope? Have you ever thought about the reason why Muhammed married someone that was older than him all cuz of money. And that supposed woman was a tool of Catholic pope? Muhammed was a violent man and he instilled that act of violence into your porous and vulnerable minds. Are you guys deaf and dumb? Can't you do a little research on your religion existence? Otherwise, you now turned yourselves to terrorists cuz of a man like you!!!
heard a detailed account of that story and its some kinda big secret or whatever... Mehn if you had a document or a link can i have it? I really need to take a good long read.

The ostrich method may not work.

EducationRe: What Do The Names Of Nigerian States and Cities Mean? by dubem3(m): 10:46am On Mar 20, 2012
Phrankin: As a point of correction, Oraukwu=great public/people
enugu ukwu=greater enugu
ama awbia=the area for visitors. You tried anyway. Thanks.
Thanks for the improvement.
For Enugwu-ukwu; ordinarily, ugwu is hill/mountain and enu is top or up hence my interpretation.
EducationRe: What Do The Names Of Nigerian States and Cities Mean? by dubem3(m): 10:39am On Mar 20, 2012
Ijeawele: .. IBUSA is d British murder of d word "Igbuzo". Which in full is "IGBO BI NUZ0R. It means Igbo pple dat leaves at d roadside.
in this context, 'uzor' does not necessarily mean 'road' but outside Igbo terrain. Its not like am in support of ur version nor am i against it, am just helping to fine tune whatever intepretation we get.

EducationRe: What Do The Names Of Nigerian States and Cities Mean? by dubem3(m): 9:24am On Mar 20, 2012
NRI PRIEST: Ok, I see what you meant and I could be wrong but not far from the real meaning but I think you should also correct me if what I had up there is wrong.

But this is how I arrive to the meaning I gave; "nbala" means wide land/open land/farming place. . .nbala could be defined as just a piece of land but its has to do with a very wide/broad/huge/large amount of land. . .Then "oma/omo" means water in some parts of Anambra, especially the northern and central Anambra. Hence my definition. You can also say Omanbala means "the river in a farming land". If anybody have anything different let them post!
it was the reason i didn't post the history in the first place cos i didn't know the final meaning of omambala though your explanation makes some sense but i intend to inquire more.

Njikoka = unity is better
amawbia = home of visitors
oraukwu = big crowd (not too sure sha)
enugwu-ukwu = ontop the big hill/mountain
EducationRe: What Do The Names Of Nigerian States and Cities Mean? by dubem3(m): 9:04am On Mar 20, 2012
emron1: well mbaise is derived from its five major cities ahiara, ekwereazu, abaaja, azinihite and oke-uvuru it is the most homogenious part of igboland and one of the most densely populated part of igboland. I am proud to be a soin of the country five
since not everybody here can read Igbo, may be you could start with telling us that mba-ise means 'five lands' or towns, mba=land, town, place and ise=five before you tell us what towns it is composed of.
EducationRe: What Do The Names Of Nigerian States and Cities Mean? by dubem3(m): 9:12pm On Mar 19, 2012
NRI PRIEST: Anambra was a british murder of the original name of the great river "Omanbala" which is the most important feeder of the river niger below lokoja.
Basicly,Omanbala means= A river on our land
sorry can you break down omambala to the individual words that equal 'a river on our land'.
I know the history of the corruption of omambala, but i can't actually see how it sums up to the meaning u gave above... Biko Nwanne kowaciate

its funny how what pleases one man displeased the other.
Its ironic how people after all these years have failed to realise that even the most glaring good deeds have some how managed to find opposition.
True, its who we are and the differences help to spice up the whole LIFE' experience.
What i like more is the fact that Seun has a plan, and is focused on getting there. Am very sure he is filtering all the load of crap we've been dumping here.
Funny enough, the new nairaland just happened to be what i craved deep within... Infact brother Seun your in the spirit.
Freecoca and idowuogbu i see you guys are having a swell time.
Lets be patient as evidently the changes have started rolling in.
