Why hasnt he gone for someone to liquidate Clichy since Gibbs cant stay fit to save his life ? why do we forever keep factoring in Song as an alternate CB ?
No fight me o Dr. Kit yu know I'm a staunch Arsene ally tongue
but I think that is cos of the small matter of that Brazillian Pedro Bothelo that we have in Cartagena in the Segunda at present.

That is clearly an exaggeration, unless of course, you apply it to all 'youth prodigies' which then makes it silly.
The only youth prodigies I'll appy that potential to at present are Hazard and Lukaku, for their age they are miles ahead of their contemporaries both at international and league level and are already raking up individual awards.

debosky:
Drawing a line under that distraction, we can now return to our own players.
sighs in relief Who would you recommend in January? even if Arsene is keeping the coffers under lock and key?

Forget what you think as an Arsenal fan . . . do you think he has an £80mil valuation??
If you ask me for my opinion, no player is worth 80m, definitely not Cesc Fabregas, on current valuation though, I'd put Cesc's fair market value at about 45m.

^^ Stop trying to be clever by half (more like by quarter grin)

If you mention CR7, what other figure are we supposed to arrive at? huh If you want to backtrack, just say I went OTT and end it there.
If you consider it OTT I have no problems with that, I don't. Optimistic? Yes cos I mean well for the boy but OTT? No. Saying a youth prodigy has potential incredible sell on value a la Christiano Ronaldo does not mean an 80m transfer fee? only that he is someone who could be sold off for a lot more, time and chance permitting? I don't have a crystal ball so can't say how much exactly he can be sold on for hence the use of the word potential.

eldee:
@Dudu

Will you agree with me that Fabregas developed at an extraordinary pace??
Definitely he did, and remember we rejected a 33m bid this summer (I don't think Arsenal should take anything less than 45m for Cesc IMO) and he is yet to win anything of note with us.

Heck even Cesc that has won a WC medal and has played in the CL final and is Captain of Arsenal FC is not being touted for an £80m transfer fee, yet we should believe someone playing in France (where talented wingers are a dime a dozen) is suddenly 'potentially' worth £80m?  huh

This takes the cake - what is more sensational than claiming an £80m 'potential' transfer fee for a player who is still plying his trade for Lille and has been known about for years now?
There you go again, You put an 80m value, I never did so the sensationalism comes from you, all I said was "Potential Incredible value" .

debosky:
You know this yet you're trying to defend the indefensible? We might as well say that any good young player can command a transfer fee of £80m.
I've defended nothing than to point out that you've sensationalized what I said. If the man who created Grammar can't differentiate between Potential and attainment what hope do the mere mortals jumping on his bandwagon have? undecided

@duduspace

At 18 Rooney was one of the most important players in England . . . he was the soul of England at the Euros, did that mean he had £80mil potential??
Is Belgium bigger than England??
fair enough eldee, but would you really say Rooney doesn't have that potential if for example Man City wanted him and Manure played hardball to get as much money from them as they could? I'm sure even Fergie when he bought CR7 never thought of an 80m transfer fee but he knew he was buying quality paying 18m for an 18 year old.
What potential transfer value exactly would yu place on Messi despite the fact that he hasnt even commanded a transfer fee of any sort and might never if he remains with Barca (80m? >80m? 200m?).

When I made the statement, the farthest thing from my mind was an 80m transfer I was only drawing parallels between buying an 18 year old prodigy and then selling him on for a whole lot more when near his peak in his mid 20s, I am as amazed as you are that Debo equated it to saying he would be sold on for the same amount CR7 was sold for. With what I see of Hazard though, he is one who could be easily worth between 40m - 80m within the next 6 years if he continues to progress as he has. Keep in mind though, the fact that potential is often not actualized.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (R.I.P Bawomolo). by duduspace(m): 3:04am On Dec 21, 2010
eldee:
You really don't understand the meaning of potential do you??
Kindly define it eldee, I'm curious. With Hazard's antecedents methinks he is the very definition of potential such as CR7 was when he was bought by Fergie. You would agree it is not normal for a 19 year old to already have 17 full international caps for a country like Belgium won't yu?

Here is one of the definitions of potential and the one I had in mind when I made the original statement:
a latent excellence or ability that may or may not be developed.
Now convince me I made a verbal faux pas in my original statement or can it be just the mention of CR7 that has got the usual suspects up in arms?

Bottom line is, this chap aint an Arsenal player so those who accuse me of bias and delusion are completely off the mark, so I can't even be bothered responding to people like Sauron.

@
No, you're saying all things being equal, developing at the expected pace, he'll end up a  £60-80mil player . . . which is complete B.S.
And save yourself the task of justifying your statement, you'll just cause more hassle for yourself.
And what do yu see that suggests he can't?  undecided
with what he's achieved at 19, the sky is Hazard's limit, still its yur choice what yu choose to believe about where the boy will end up the keyword here is potential.
If I said he will be sold off for a sum as high as CR7 then yu can question the statement, except yu're telling me there is no difference between potential and achievement.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only (R.I.P Bawomolo). by duduspace(m): 10:56pm On Dec 19, 2010
While DK is busy sharpening his Viewer skillz on our thread instead of worrying about Munschit's slide into obscurity in that irrelevant league called the Bundesliga, I'd like to turn attention to the transfer window which will soon open. Some might ask why, considering that Arsene is not a big spender in the transfer window and considering the fact that we are known for bringing through youth (at present, almost 50% of our first team squad players had youth cup appearances for us before moving on to the first team and yes before some people come on here to start spouting opaks, that includes Cesc Fabregas).
My answer to that question would be Nasri, Arshavin and Koscielny in that order, clear evidence of Arsene dipping into the transfer window to fill gaps in the team where we don't have ready replacement in house. The one place where this team seems to be shouting for new blood is the wing forward positions, I pick on this position because we are an attacking team and it seems when we are not scoring or keeping the ball in the opponent's dangerous areas, then we are conceeding (no matter who we have at the back) an analysis of the players we have in those positions is given below:

THE PRESENT
1.Samir Nasri (23): Top of the pile at present and likely to be for quite a while, has been an incredible assest so far this season also having age on his side.
2. Andrei Arshavin (29): Unplayable on his day but a bit erratic and has a questionable work ethic. A luxury player unable to get with it when the going gets tough, getting on in years now.
3.Theo Walcott(21): What can I say? speed demon you wish could add a bit more but as time passes yu feel just doesn't have that extra factor, still has time on his side and could ultimately end up central but methinks will never be of the class of wing forward we need to get to Barcelona type levels.
4. Tomas Rosicky(30): Great player in his time, but hasnt really been the same since that long term injury, doesn't have age on his side and at present is probably in the team only in a big brother role to the upcoming youngsters IMO.
5. Carlos Vela (21) Another one you feel is better suited to a central role as a box poacher, had interesting cameos but is yet to fully convince in any role.

THE UP AND COMING
1.Jay Emmanuel Thomas(20): I know most would be surprised to see him mentioned as he is often tipped by most (myself included) for a lone striker role but I include him in this list cos of a recent statement by Liam Brady head of the Arsenal academy
I think he has found his best position now under Neil Banfield, in that roving role on the right side of the attack. The first team's formation could suit him.
If yu ask me, I think JET can play any Attacking role yu give him and will give full backs a different kind of test with his physique and ability but we'll have to wait a bit to see him as an Arsenal regular because Arsene wants him to go and prove himself in the PL first of all. And yes, though I hate to admit it, there are question marks over his work ethic too but at 20 there is time enough to sort that out.

2. Wellington Silva(18): This was the great hope IMO, has everything yu need in a wide forward and quite a work horse too but still raw, unfortunately didn't get a Work Permit and will likely go out on loan probably for the next 3 years like Vela, would have been interesting to see him as an understudy to Arshavin. In the opinion of a 17 year old Nigerian born Man City youth player I met who played against him in the tournament at OT where he came to prominence, he is even better than Wilshere.(note: Not my opinion)

3. Ryo Miyaichi (18): Still far off 1st team standard but one to watch out for (should make the remaining FA youth cup matches) and with Aneke and co, this is already lookin like another youth cup win.

WHAT I THINK WE NEED

Eden Hazard (19) of Lille: What more can I say about this lad? 19 and already made Ligue 1 team of the year, won French League Young player of the year twice, already has 17 international caps for Belgium, the list goes on and on. Lightning fast like Theo and dangerous from either wing. Was recommended to Real Madrid by the Great Zizou himself. I think he already has the ability to bench Arshavin and at 19 has so many years left in him. He is also still young enough to be moulded. Getting him now works for us in so many
ways:

1. We can have some competition and potential replacement for Arshavin since Wellinton's arrival is delayed.
2. In preparation for Cesc potentially leaving in the near future, we can move Nasri to his preferred Central position since Eden has more pace and is a bit of a specialist winger, while we subsequently bring Wellinton in later on.
3. Has potentially incredible sell on value a la CR7

This deal should be possible considering Arsene's french connections and the lad has already expressed that he would be happy to come to us, its all about how much would convince Lille to let him go. Anything between 13m and 20m should seal the deal considering we got Nasri a player of similar pedigree for 12m just 2 seasons ago.

You're very right, footie is always full of surprises. Only thing I can say about the match is that it will be a spectacle yet again with surely a lot of goals and here I am hoping we'lll be scoring a lot and going to the next round. And just maybe, as one can only hope, beating a team of this quality can help this present crop get the confidence that they could beat anyone like those teams that beat the galacticos RM, Juve and AC Milan in the past.
We just need to get the balance right. In the past, we didn't have the strength in depth but could put out a team that could beat anyone on a given day, now it seems we have the strength in depth but a first 11 that so far has been unable to win the big games that make yu look like a great team.

Ok so we sign a Japanese, for marketing reasons or is the guy really good enough?

http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/ryo-miyaichi-to-join-arsenal-in-january
He was good when he trialled with us in pre-season and got good reviews, pacy and good with both feet I think, we almost lost out on him when he broke his leg on trial at Ajax after he concluded his trial with us. Still at least a year away from first team integration.

I would place both Wellington and Galindo ahead of him in the development curve though. I think Arsene is working on the wide positions as we have so many good and young CM type players. With Miyaichi and Wellington we seem to be getting more pacy Theo type wing players (with better touch and technique IMO), within the next 2 years, I expect at least one of these 3 (Watt, JET, Wellington, Miyaichi) to become first teamers.

I'm of the opinion the idea was to get Wellington into the first team as quickly as possible but the FA seems to have put an end to that. How they could give Damien Martinez a work permit and then deny Wellington beats me.
