Even when Arsenal played a team with an average age of 19 (having 3 players U17) against Wigan, we were never beaten 4-0 but trashed them 3-0.

In terms of player quality, Manure's youth players at present can't be compared to Arsenal's and more Bebe like signings will only widen the chasm. I said it before yesterday and I will still continue to say it. Manure's future aint lookin good when compared to Arsenal's.

The game Barca played yesterday was from another planet, I was just bouncing up and down like a yo-yo. It will be extremely difficult for any team to get close but don't write off our boyz just yet, if they get anywhere near 90% of the level Barca was at yesterday, I will be very happy. It was a victory for everyone who likes to see the beautiful game being played beautifully and not a win at all costs approach which usually makes the game very boring as espoused by "The Special Mug".
The important thing is the blueprint they took to get there,

1. Get the best technically gifted players from home and abroad together (they had an advantage here cos their catchment area isn't limited in Spain and not many upcoming spanish players will spurn the opportunity to play for Barca)

2. Get them playing a certain style of football from an early age so its virtually bred into them (we are well along this path now) and give promising youngsters opportunities to play in the first team early.

3. Enhance the team with some world class buys not requiring Galactico proportions expenditure (we aint there yet but signings like Chamakh and Vermaelen are encouraging).

Keep the faith guys, I don't think the likes of Iniesta and Xavi won anything until they were in their mid 20s. I'm sure they were also muscled around at various places as we sometimes are but Barca stuck to their strategy and its winning at present and sustainable too.

Current performance of the week for Arsenal is Pep Guardiola and the Barca team for making the self titled "Special One" look more like a "Special Mug" and shutting that cocky b*stard up for a while.
I hope one day that these our boys will play like those Barca boys, Nasiru, I know say one day you go make us proud.

Great performance from the boys, dodgy decision making from Clichy again, though he had an eye on his zone but methinks he should have closed down the immediate danger, a tendency to forget how to play at the start of the 2nd half yet again from the team but we showed tenacity to hold on and get a good result.
Congratulations to little Jack on scoring his first league goal, hope our little maestro takes off from there and congratulations all round though the boys still have it all to do to finally convince. November isn't looking so bad after all, finish off Wigan quickly on Tuesday and it might yet be a grey november rather than a black one.

I think it goes beyond speed, some anticipation is involved, it annoys me to hell when he is in front of a player and the player then ends up behind him in a goal scoring position. He had a part to play in both goals we conceeded but I think the 2nd came by because he wanted to keep the ball in play and was fouled without the ref blowin. For the first I find it hard to forgive him but I'm not making an issue out of it.
Arsene has to get these boys sorted, the team is in a slump and some players are just not turning up.
With this kind of form, I won't be too surprised if Wigan knocks us out of the CC. This was the team we beat 5-1 at the emirates wasn't it?  and all we needed was a point, why create our own problems yet again?

Just to point something out on the 2nd goal, that was the kind of position where LK6 would concede a yellow and take one for the team.

No blame apportioning today, this team is officially in a slump, Arsene, please sort it out.

If there was anything original about what he did, he would probably be earning royalty payments today.

Houvest, you should know that a claim like the one I note below is a massive stretch of the truth or a blatant untruth, even if its technically correct I'm sure its not something that can be validated. Besides, note the tactical use of the word "personal". It is a fact that the first web site to use the HTTP protocol was by Tim Berners Lee in 1990. He is no father of the internet by a long stretch. Read up on the evolution of the internet and the TCP/IP protocol and there is no mention of Emeagwali anywhere.

Of all the write ups put up in Emeagwali's defence, the one from Houvest sounds most reasonable,  Emeagwali is indeed a man with more achievement than most of the posters here and he does have some claim to fame, it is quite wrong to compare him to Tim Berners Lee who came up with the initial idea for HTTP which did form the basis for a standard way of presenting information through browsers which subsequently led to the explosion of interest in the world wide web which we all still use today.

To be honest, I don't think he has done anything more than blow his trumpet a bit too loud, if those degrees he claimed to have are found to be fraudulent though, then he might also have to answer to the law.

Going by what I've now read about the research he did and judging by the fact that he has no technical patents, I don't think there is any basis whatsoever for anyone to refer to him as a "Father of the internet", that is total misinformation and it still amazes me that some creditable newsmedia and important personalities like CNN and Bill Clinton helped fuel these massive exaggerations of the truth, I'd like to believe they were also hoodwinked as I must say I also was initially.

Emeagwali trained as a Supercomputing engineer, won a price which is in no way near a Nobel price and contributed his bit to the advancement of knowledge in his own little way, he however did not do anything considered worthy of being patented or worthy of being awarded a PhD for, these are facts and not opinions which should be accepted by any educated Nigerian whether you are Hausa/Ibo/Yoruba or not even a Nigerian at all.

Emeagwali is a brilliant mind no doubt, even to be able to hype his meagre contribution to world wide fame requires a brilliant albeit not so sincere mind. Squillaci seems to be the only potent one but his goals seem to always be flagged offside for some reason. Djorou has never scored for us anyway and I don't know if he ever will despite his imposing physique.

Absolute bollocks - the failings to defend are down to two reasons - we CAN'T defend because Wenger doesn't teach defence and the quality of personnel ( Clichy, Denilson and Koscielny) is poor. SIMPLE.

I personally don't count the third as Koscielny's error, on another day if we'd defended the FK well people would say he took one for the team. I'd rather what he did when he did it than Bale getting a free run on goal. I'd preferred he backed off and stayed on his feet while waiting for someone else to cover at the back but when you commit a foul that far away from your goal, the last thing on your mind is that it would lead to a goal.

Long punt upfield and 2 players go for an header, simple anticipation on Denilson's part and problem is solved, not assuming that Clichy would head it back. What makes me more angry with Denny is that he was actually ahead of VDV initially, it was like he was standing still.

He is the DM in the team by all accounts, but because he scored a couple of goals, he has abdicated his primary responsibility. There is no reason why he shouldn’t be back defending. Actually Arsene says otherwise, right now the most withdrawn MF is Denilson when he is on the pitch, besides the shape to keep when we go up for setpiece situations is clear and the entire team knows it. The more physical players (height and power) get in the box while the midgets get to mop up if the ball rebounds outside.
I still recall Wilshere standing up to Andy Carroll when Newcastle had a breakaway opportunity from a similar position to that of yesterday.

Me self no understand that one, but are you sure Cesc can even stop Defoe if they both go for a header? I think that is a generic team flaw in the size of our players. What we payed for at the end of the day wasn't that final goal (even though we could still have done better at it) but we payed for our stupidity on the first 2 goals, those goals were practically self initiated. Tottenham is also a UCL team and at some stage would have their own chances. What we needed to do was to take our own chances and be professional, on saturday we unfortunately werent.

I don't think that can be helped, even in some instances it is not really a foul like Song's tackle on Modric that led to the 2nd goal. The opponent will get opportunities to put balls into your box at some point and we do have a relatively small MF (but so does Barca, so I have no problems with that), it is the self inflicted wounds that bother me and that is what this team needs to cut out.

Every team does it which is why they are atimes able to beat some teams 7-0.
A very good question I would ask is if you can imagine Ivanovic, Essien and Cashley conspiring to allow VDV pass that ball to Bale yesterday even if Terry and Alex had gone up for a set piece opportunity?
Basically, Denilson anticipating that Defoe could get that ball ahead of Clichy and remembering to make it just a little more difficult for VDV could have spared us the agony.
It wasn't exactly as if those who stayed back were outnumbered which is what makes it all the more ridiculous.

You have a strong point when you say Arsene has something to sort out, he has always believed in the concept of shared leadership but I think we come up with strange results like yesterday when we don't have enough leaders on the pitch taking responsibility both for themselves and atimes for others. Some of our players are skillful and technically good but seem to be lacking in the football intelligence that should come with experience.

Why are people blaming Kos? infact I find it extremely hard to blame our CB pairing up for any of the goals we conceeded yesterday.

Goal 1: How Denilson, Clichy and Sagna conspired to allow Defoe and VdV finally work that ball to Bale has nothing to do with Squillaci or Kos who had both gone up for a set piece situation we had. I found Denilson particularly culpable for that goal. He was at least a yard ahead of VdV by the time Clichy and Defoe went up for the header and a yard behind VdV when he got the ball before laying on the pass to Bale. Whatever happened to the concept of safety first when you're in the holding role?
Denilson seems to lack bottle, has anyone noticed we haven't conceeded these breakaway goals while Wilshere has been the second holding MF? Denny is fine when play is in front of him but can't seem to handle it when play flows behind him which is why Ibime is quite right when he says he would be better played in the Cesc role but the question is, he will never get the opportunity to play there and can't he add more to his game?

Goal 2: Fluky free kick and then 2 experienced players who should know better decided to wave to the crowd for whatsoever reason and conceed as cheap a penalty kick as can be conceeded under no pressure at all. Please bear in mind that one of those players culpable is a World cup and Euro cup winner.

Goal 3: Is the only one where Kos was partly culpable, but bear in mind what we would all have been saying if Bale had broke on him and gone 1v1 against Fabianski (remember what he did to Maicon?) besides, that FK was quite far from goal and could still have been better defended against.

That first goal finished us cos it gave them hope, it is criminal to concede on a counter when yu're 2 goals up particularly when you've already seen Chamakh pass up 2 opportunities where he had a run on goal simply because he was fatigued. Do these boys communicate with themselves at all?

Manmustwac must be in Nirvana now, chei these boys messed up. Anyway 17 years is a long time to wait for something so Congratulations on finally excising the 17 year old boil, but another one might be developing right away.

Well, I still think Chelsea will continue to challenge season in season out unless a major catatrophe happens. In the end, the Terrys, Lampards, Essiens, will still be in the team. They only need to add to this i.e. if they don't do that come January 2011.

Are you sure 20m will fix that chelsea team? considering they bought Ramires for 18m or so? I agree they are still strong and are still the team to beat when their first 11 is fit, but competing on all fronts is already becoming burdensome for them methinks. Lets wait for when the FA cup starts.

As for ManU, yes their signings have been dodgy but the fact is they are still spending money which means they can still get in more quality players.

Their recent signings suggests to me there is a policy change going on at Manure, It will be confirmed in the January window I guess. They were rumored to have already put in a bid for Bale in the summer which Tottnumb rejected. The Manure I knew in the past usually got their man, lets see what they do in January.

So for Arsenal, I don't see anything changing in coming years.

This exactly is the source of our strength, we have reputable young and upcoming players and our academy continues to attract the cream of young players, I still believe this team just needs to win something to set them on the right track, I think once you get that feeling of winning it just stays with you and then becomes a standard for you.

The basic problem I think is that we lack the mentality of a winning side, thats the truth. We need Vieira/Henry to come beat it in these guys ears what it is to play for Arsenal. We saw some of it when Sol played for us last season even though physically he was past it. Cesc wouldn't dare be playing for Barca and contemplate losing to Madrid.
The only two players I have seen play with any form of hunger in our current squad is TV and Nasri. The rest just play to justify their pay and even at that, they don't do enough.

I think even Arsene sees that which is why he has continued to bring the old players back so that they can pass something on to these guys but I think there is nothing that will beat it into their heads more than them winning something first of all themselves. Even in his purchases, Arsene tries to buy players who have won things. Chamakh with Bordeaux, Squillaci with Sevilla etc. They just need to turn the corner, this team has quality.

I am very particular about the premiership. I am particular because I think this may be our real last chance for some time to come. I don't expect Chelsea to be this weak come next season, same with United. We actually really DO have a chance. But AW needs to understand how to use his players. Players should not be made to believe they will play anytime they are fit.
With due respect to Kos, I think Djorou should have played today. What has he done wrong to be benched simply because Kos returned from suspension?

MC29 should also be benched for the odd games. He's played a lot of games this season, I don't expect to see him in the midweek game. Bendtner should show us he is not just all mouth. RVP10 should also be given a chance.

This is one thing SAF does very well with his players. He keeps them hungry on the bench so when they come on, even the not too good ones flatter to deceive ala Obertan.

Arshavin is a great player on his day, but its obvious he sometimes needs motivation to show his stuff. That motivation may be one or two games on the bench

Why do you think its our last real chance for a while? Chelsea needs to spend a lot more to get to the levels they were in the Mourinho era, they had been on a downward slope since last season and shld count themselves lucky for their last Hurrah last season, also Abramovic seems to have thrown the keys to his safe away. Manure's recent signings have been underwhelming and will not improve them IMO, the clear and present danger I see going forwards is City.
We are still one of the best placed going forwards, but it has just been so long since we won last, that needs to be changed and yu're right that we have a very good chance this season but why does it seem the boys are more interested in throwing it away than winning it?  

Chelsea lost so only Manure profit this weekend. Interesting, that must be the first time Chelsea have lost back to back in the PL in ages.

I agree mehn, it is looking like it is a mental thing. To me, that is even more dangerous than having poor players. Because, no matter how good we are if these players are not tough mentally, then we may as well kiss the league goodbye this season.

If we are not at least 5 points ahead with 8 games to go(and having already met most of the Top 6 clubs), I'll give up on our winning it because if we get dragged into a neck to neck race like last season, I can't trust our boys yet not to find a way to mess it up.
But maybe if there is already a CC in the bag and the "no silverware" monkey off their backs, then they can really settle and show their quality, one can only hope. To be honest, I'm not too particular about the PL this season, it would be a nice bonus but they must just win something this season.

You know, it is like a mental thing now, where we just crumble when we have the chance to close gaps or leave others behind. I won't be As per not being clinical enough, yeah I agree well well for that one. Chammy seem to be able to go from being sublime with his flicks and passes to having the "curse of Bendtner" where he just wobbles and kinda clumsy with his touches.

That is one of the things I currently find baffling about the team.

1. If I'm not mistaken, this is the 2nd time quite recently that Cesc has been penalised for raising his hand when a freekick is about to be taken, the first time I think we escaped with a freekick outside the box, anyone remember? not sure if it was towards the tail end of last season or this season  

2. This is the second time we are conceding a goal from a FK, where the ball is dropped behind the defensive line into a no man's land and an opposing player gets on the end of it, I think it happened at Shaktar away?   wouldn't claim to be a footie expert and I know that kind of well delivered FK is a bit difficult to defend but shouldn't we have a strategy to counter it by now?

If there is any excuse for the team today, it is that maybe they still had an international week fatigue since we do have more internationals than spurs but considering the fact that we were 2-0 up that is a very flimsy excuse indeed and one would expect none internationals like Denny to step up on days like this. The one player I would excuse today however is Chamakh, even when we were 2-0 up it was quite evident he prolly shldn't have started today, this is the worst I've seen him with the WBA loss coming a close second.

Our issues are now mental and our problems mostly self caused but the quality is now present in the team to win silverware, that much I'm very convinced of.
