If we are to go by there energy source and what they can generate if properly managed, we can discovered how possible we can take the electricity problem in the country. Let’s focus on 3 key energy source uses around the world and can be find in this three (3) great regions in Nigeria.


Northern Region
Northern region consist of the following States / Capital Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Ilorin, Kano, Katsina, Plateau, Taraba, Niger, Adamawa, Kaduna, Sokoto, Gombe, Jigawa, Kebbi, Kogi, Nassarawa, Yobe, Zamfara. This region is blessed with many energy sources that they can use to help solve their power situation.

• Coal
States like Benue, Bauchi and Zamfara can provide a coal plant as the source of energy for the region. Coal is the largest source of energy for the generation of electricity worldwide, and it can be use used by heavy industries which is another form of employment creating and economy diversification. China produced 3,747 million tons of coal – 48% of 7,861 million tones world coal production. In 2015 other large producers were United States, India, European Union and Australia. Coal should be the best source to help upgrade this region in terms of industries, manufacturing and other form of business that solely depends on constant power supply.

Coal supplied 16.5 quadrillion BTUs of primary energy to electric power plants in United State of America in 2013. According to Maxwell Fact About Energy It's about equal to the amount of energy in 45 million tons of coal, or 1 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, or 170 million barrels of crude oil. In 1988, total world energy consumption was about 1 quad every 26 hours. To make these a bit less abstract, 45 million tons of coal would be a pile 10 feet thick, one mile wide and about 3.3 miles long. At 60 mph, it would take about 9 minutes to drive around the pile. In terms of electricity, the energy content of 1 quad is equal to about 293 terawatt-hours or 33 gig watt-years. However, a typical steam-turbine power plant burning fossil fuels is only able to capture about a third of the energy in the fuel, so 1 quad of fuel actually produces about 11 gig watt-years of electricity.

According to the U.S. EIA, however, current coal generation is one of the most expensive on a first-cost basis at $4,000 - $6,000 per kW. Part of the reason for this is that coal-fired electricity generation has become much more efficient, and the technology needed to achieve higher efficiencies comes at a steep price.

• Solar Power
Tapping into the abundant sun light in the region is another way to create a good power source for the purpose of more raise in industrial sector, production and employment creation. The northern region can work together in building more solar panel to help increase the current power produce in the region. According to Solar Power Authority, the installed cost of solar panels was between $7-$9 per watt: A 5 kW system would cost around $25,000-$35,000. Many utility companies offer incentives, and some subsidize as much as 50% of system costs. Even at half the cost, though, a system that generates an average $75 of electricity per month could take a long time to pay for itself.

According to Wikipedia Solar power is the conversion of energy from sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaic (PV), indirectly using concentrated solar power, or a combination. Concentrated solar power systems use lenses or mirrors and tracking systems to focus a large area of sunlight into a small beam. Photovoltaic cells convert light into an electric current using the photovoltaic effect. As the cost of solar electricity has fallen, the number of grid-connected solar PV systems has grown into the millions and utility-scale solar power stations with hundreds of megawatts are being built. Solar PV is rapidly becoming an inexpensive, low-carbon technology to harness renewable energy from the Sun. The current largest photovoltaic power station in the world is the 850 MW Longyangxia Dam Solar Park, in Qinghai, China.

• Hydropower
Northern states like Kano (Tiga Dam & Challawa Gorge Dam), Katsina (Zobe Dam & Jibiya Dam), Kebbi State (Zauro polder project), Niger State (Kainji Dam, Jebba Dam & Shiroro Dam), Adamawa State (Kiri Dam), Bauchi (Kafin Zaki Dam), Sokoto State (Goronyo Dam & Bakolori Dam) and Gombe (Dadin kowa Dam), should be a region with self sufficient hydro power energy source with the number of dams and reservoir present in the place. With the help of proper management and development from the government, these dams can generate about 15,000 MW of energy for this region. This particular amount of energy can serve this region effectively.

Hydropower is produced in 150 countries, with the Asia-Pacific region generating 33 percent of global hydropower in 2013. China is the largest hydroelectricity producer, with 920 TWh of production in 2013, representing 16.9 percent of domestic electricity use. The cost of hydroelectricity is relatively low, making it a competitive source of renewable electricity. The hydro station consumes no water, unlike coal or gas plants. The average cost of electricity from a hydro station larger than 10 megawatts is 3 to 5 U.S. cents per kilowatt-hour. With a dam and reservoir it is also a flexible source of electricity since the amount produced by the station can be changed up or down very quickly to adapt to changing energy demands. Once a hydroelectric complex is constructed, the project produces no direct waste, and has a considerably lower output level of greenhouse gases than fossil fuel powered energy plants. • Dam / Reservoir
The following are states in western region and their dams / reservoir Oyo State (Asejiri Reservoir & Ikere Gorge Dam), Ogun State (Oyan River Dam), Ondo State, Lagos State, Osun State (Ede-Erinle Reservoir) and Ekiti State are capable of generating 3000 mega watt of electricity with the existing infrastructures in the region. Lagos State and Ogun state are the key states that can drive a tremendous growth, investment and business environment into the other states. Rebuilding these dams to their full capacity will provide enough energy the region can use to grow.

• Natural Gas
This source requires the intervention of the government to have an agreement with the eastern region for the supply of gas that will be use to run the power station just like our agreement with Ghana. At present usage rates, natural gas could supply most of the world's energy needs for between 100 and 250 years, depending on increase in consumption over time. Having this natural gas installed with boost the production capacity of Ogun State and Lagos State.

• Wind energy
Western region has a good weather condition that can support the installation of wind energy for constant electricity for the people. Wind energy is a good energy source that could generate up to 50,000 mega watt of power. This amount of energy is enough to revive some important sectors in the region.

Eastern Region
The following are cities and states in eastern region Aba, Abakaliki, Abonnema, Ahoada, Awka, Bori City, Buguma, Calabar, Eket, Enugu, Igwuruta, Ikot-Abasi, Ikot Ekpene, Nnewi, Nsukka, Omoku, Onitsha, Opobo, Orlu, Owerri, Port Harcourt, Umuahia, Uyo, Yenagoa. This region has a lot of mineral resource which could be use for production of energy source for their businesses and industries. Improving on the existing infrastructure in the oil rich state and with the help on other alternative means of power source, it is possible for this region to generate at least 30,000 MW of power within them. The following are power source that can be generated in the eastern region of Nigeria.

• Fossil Fuel Power Station
This is a power station that burns coal, natural gas or petroleum to generate electricity. States like Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo State and River State are enriched with enough oil/gas to help generate large amount of electricity them need to growth and development. According to Market Realist, the EIA's findings suggest that natural gas–fired power plants are cheaper to build with overnight capital costs ranging from $676 to $2,095 per kilowatt (or kW), depending on the technology. Natural gas-fired combined-cycle units accounted for 53% of the 449 gig watts (GW) of total U.S. natural gas-powered generator capacity in 2016. Making use of these natural resources in this eastern region can help boost the country’s economic strength and also help to reduce the high rate of unemployment and hunger in the country.

• Wind Energy
Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form of energy, such as using: wind turbines to make electricity, windmills for mechanical power, wind pumps for water pumping or drainage, or sails to propel ships. A large wind farm may consist of several hundred individual wind turbines which are connected to the electric power transmission network. Offshore wind farms can harness more frequent and powerful winds than are available to land-based installations and have less visual impact on the landscape but construction costs are considerably higher.
As of 2011, 83 countries around the world are using wind power on a commercial basis. As of 2010 wind energy production was over 2.5% of worldwide power, growing at more than 25% per annum. The monetary cost per unit of energy produced is similar to the cost for new coal and natural gas installations. Although wind power is a popular form of energy generation, the construction of wind farms is not universally welcomed due to aesthetics. Source: Nigeria of Environment.

• Nuclear Power Plant

A nuclear power plant or nuclear power station is a thermal power station in which the heat source is a nuclear reactor. Nuclear power plant can generate thousands of mega watts depending on how long it runs. For example, a nuclear plant that operates 508 MW capacities for 24 hours will generate 12,192 megawatt hours (MWh). Most power plants do not operate a full capacity every hour of every day of the year. States like Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa and Cross River that has Uranium in large quantity can take this project up to help generate enough power source for the region.
Nuclear plant could take up to 5 to 10 years to construct depending on the size, and it could cost about 3-8 Billion Euro according to Energy Matter. Some sectors like Railways and Automobile Plant will have the chance to upgrade to electric trains and car fabrication.

Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, has said that he does not run family government as alleged by some elites in the state.

He said that those behind the allegation have missed the point.

According to him, “more than 4,000 children had gone to University through Rochas Foundation and more than 15,000 of such children are also in the various colleges of the Foundation”.

As it stands, come 2019, I’m contesting for nothing. But in my heart, I have searched out and resolved that one man has good thoughts about Nigeria in his heart. He added “My coming as a leader in Imo State was by your efforts. No big political bigwig supported me and in my stride, I have brought sitting Heads of states of other countries to Imo State”.

Chief (Dr) Chinua Achebe wrote a book titled
“There Was a Country” which had sparked a lot of
discussion on the pages of many of our National
Newspapers of the resent. The pity of it was that
Achebe had touched on the raw parts of the
Yoruba People of this country and many had
commented promptly and appropriately.

My comment to you today, has very little or nothing
to do with the tribal issues but as affecting the
military, the 3MCDO operation area during the civil
war and to Sector 3 of 3MCDO of which I was the
commander in particular, from 1967 to 1969. I was
also the Chief of Staff of 3MCDO during this same
period.

This book will be out there forever, and I need to
defend myself and my actions during the civil war
for posterity.

events described in Achebe's book. I have just

pages 209 – 210
I will therefore take these issues one by one and
expect that there will be questions at the end of
my discussions with you on the points made or
generally on the book, since I have read it.

Asaba Massacre.

This was on the night of 8th August, 1967 at about
10pm. I was the commander of the Federal troops
of 4th Area Command at Asaba. The Biafran troops
broke the barricade on Niger River bridge and
went straight to a place called “Ogbe Hausa” at the
cable point; where the Hausa community lived.
Biafran troops pounced on them and killed many of
them. The few that escaped were moved down at
Onitsha end, the people jubilated. Before my
troops could reach me to report the situation,
about 20 Biafran troops attacked me at the
catering Rest House where I was living at the time. I
fought my way through, and overpowered the 20
Biafran troops and reported the situation to my
boss Major Henry Igboba at Agbor. The story of
how I did that is contained in my book.
b) When the tide turned and the Federal Troops
recaptured the Midwestern Region and Asaba, the
Hausas among them retaliated by killing the people
at Asaba. The Hausa who were there had
never denied doing that.
c) Please read the excerpts of this story in a
book written by a Midwestern Asaba Ibo author
titled “The Blood on the Niger” - pages 28 and 62

at Ogbe Hausa the day Biafrans crossed the Niger.
The Hausa settlement at the end of Cable Point is as
old as Asaba Township itself. It developed during the
trading boom of the Royal Niger Company. Trade on
the Niger had brought a lot of Nigerians together
buying, exchanging and selling goods. Most of these
stranger elements from the North – Hausas, Fulanis,
Nupes, Tivs and Igalas decided to stay on in Asaba.
Many were born there and did not have deeper ties with their own Northern roots, and during the crisis,
did not quite know where to run back to. These
were the Nigerians that a group of brigands from
Onitsha fell upon on the morning of 9th August, 1967.
These youths, mainly aggrieved refugees from the
North apparently had not forgotten the 1966
debacle in the North. In vengeance, they
accompanied the Biafran Brigade and before the
Asaba indigenes knew what was happening, a lot of
damage had been done in Ogbe Hausa. Many were
rescued and given safe conduct through Auchi by
road while others proceeded by boat through the
river Niger. This group never made it, for they were
ambushed at Onono near Onitsha and dealt with.
This was the situation as the Federal troops, now on
the offensive and in command, approached Ogbe
Hausa quarters, Asaba
* In short the Hausas were all killed.

book.
I was the Chief of Staff of 3MCDO and Col
Benjamin Adekunle was the commander. Achebe’s
story here was that the Nigerian forces over ran
Calabar in early 1968 without much resistance or
investment. He further wrote that the Nigerian
Forces decided to purge the city of its Igbo
inhabitants and that by the time the Nigerians were
done, at least 1,000 and perhaps 2,000 Ibos had
been killed.

a. This is a very unfortunate comment.
Intelligence report showed that Biafran troops
had alienated the Efik people of Calabar, did not
recruit many into the Biafran Army and had lousily
defended the town and the beach area of
Atimbo. 3MDCO therefore led by Col Adekunle had
an amphibious landing at Calabar which proved
that the town and the beaches were not defended
by Biafran troops with the seriousness that it
deserved; and the natives welcomed 3MCDO with
all the enthusiasm and the support it deserved.
b. I landed 3 days after the amphibious
landing and the natives gave us all the support we
needed – medical, casualty evacuation, food, off
loading the ship of our supplies and heavy
weapons. These stories and relevant pictures are
contained in my book.
c. Achebe then said, on the same page 137
that the Nigerian forces opened fire and murdered
fourteen nurses and the patients in the wards in
Uyo.
Here is an excerpts from a book titled “The Nigerian
Revolution and the Biafran War” by AlexanderA. Madiebo, the commander of Biafran Forces on
page 240 and 242 of his book.

....On the 9th of March the enemy landed at Oron and
then on, no one including the Brigade
Commander Aniebo, really knew what was
happening until Ikot-Ekpene, 50 miles from Oron, also
fell. However, within hours of enemy landing, there
was firing in many towns and villages between Oron
and Uyo. Thereafter, wherever our troops tried to
deploy in the area, they fell into an ambush. That confusion continued until the 11th when firing
started inside Uyo town and we soon discovered
that the “enemy,” whoever he might be, was there.
In short Uyo had fallen! Our own troops were pulling
back in disarray, absolutely unable to establish a
defensive position anywhere along the route. Having
lost complete control of his brigade with no
prospects of regaining it, Colonel Aniebo was
dismissed from command and summoned to
appear before the Head of State, Ojukwu...

Here also is an excerpt of the book titled “Nigeria
and Biafra my Story” by Phippip Effiong, the Chief of
Defence Staff of the Biafran Armed Forces on
page 220 and 221 of his book:

.....When I visited the Brigade shortly before the
invasion, particularly in Uyo and Calabar areas, I
received a lot of complaints from the local people
about unsavoury treatment by our (Biafran) troops. I
drew Colonel Eze’s attention to these complaints and
urged him to improve relations with the civilians. At
Uyo, military/civilian relations were so strained that I
had to personally intervene to release a local
newspaper editor from detention. Such acts on my
part were not just a question of feeling alone for my
people, but also a question of justice and sense of
belonging in an emergent Biafran State. Were these
arrests, false accusations, and detentions a sign of
things to come in an independent Biafra? These issues bothered me as they would anyone else in
my position then.....
..... With the fall of Calabar, Itu , Uyo and Ikot Ekpene
the rest of the mainland was militarily threatened.
Before this threat became imminent, I had strongly
suggested to Ojukwu that as Ikot Ekpene was a vital
junction town. It should be strongly defended. All he
did was to sarcastically remind me that in fact we
should also put a battalion at Nnewi. Nnewi was
Ojukwus’s homerown as Ikot Ekpene was supposed to
be mine, because I lived and grew up there.
However, I am from Ibiono in Itu, and not Ikot Ekpene.
After I received his sarcastic message, I did not
mention the subject again. As it eventually turned out,
the fall of Ikot Ekpene hastened the collapse of the
Biafran 12th Division and, consequently, of Biafra....

The major thing to bear in mind about the above crap is the date of 8th August, 1967. It was the day Biafra launched operation to capture Lagos and the troops were Benin in few hours of the operation. Some folks write recorded event in manner that suggests that they have monopoly on the facts or nobody knows anything about military operation but them. This dumbass donkey named Alabi-Isama stated he overpowered 20 Biafran soldiers. How did he overpower 20 men? He claimed the Biafrans took Hausa peeps back to Onicha when in fact the Biafrans were in Warri, Sapele and Benin within 12 hours of the liberation operation which started on 8th August, 1967.

It is so funny that Alabi-Isama was in hurry to receive accolades that he forgot the doctrine of military parlance. Major Alabi-Isama was sector commander but the Chief of Staff of 3MCDO. There were superior officer in 3MCDO at the time such as Lt Col Ayo Ariyo.

The British government has opened up on the agitations for Biafra, Restructuring and the Indigenous people of Biafra(IPOB) group, stating that they do not support IPOB or Secessionists.

The British government maintains that it would not support any activity that will lead to the break-up of Nigeria. The British high commissioner to Nigeria, Paul Arkwright during a visit to Joy 109.1 FM in Jos, had this to say;

"We are in favour of a united Nigeria; we do not support IPOB, we do not support secessionists.

Equally, they have a right to be heard because the constitution provides for freedom of expression, even as restructuring is going to be a major factor in the 2019 elections.

EFCC will no longer spare corrupt Nigerians – Magu explodes

The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu has said the Commission will stop at nothing in dealing decisively with any worker in the aviation sector involved in acts of corruption.

Magu gave the warning on Thursday at the anti-corruption sensitization programme organized by the EFCC for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and other aviation sector workers in Abuja.

According to him, the warning was necessary due to the series of reported cases of corruption in the aviation sector, ranging from misuse of funds, bribery, extortion, to abuse of authority by officials at the airports.

He asserted that the EFCC, as the agency mandated to fight corruption in Nigeria, was determined more than ever before to rid all government Ministries, Departments and Agencies of all forms of fraudulent activities.

project. Speaking to newsmen shortly after receiving the
award, he commended the Igbo community for choosing
him out of several others for the prestigious award.
