Unless she is willing to work with her pregnancy but not many employers will take her (it’s against the law yes, but many employers still stigmatise).

But bress milk is free nah.

I have been seriously troubled at heart lately. By God's grace, January 2021, I shall be coming to the UK with my spouse for masters prog at Edinburgh. I am worried because she is pregnant going to 4months and we just have roughly 2m for survival when we land. From my calculations, after settling down and other factors, her due date would be close by. Obviously, i would be the only one to be working during this period.
I just want to ask if the IHS fees paid covers delivery/maternity?
Are there any benefits for child deliver?
Will this funds plus the little hours i hope to work be okay for us pending when she ll be fit to assist?
Please those with living experience over there kindly advice me.

That 2m will barely last you 5 months if you are on a very tight budget. When baby arrives then childcare will have to be factored in as well.If you find a job immediately at £10ph (~£800pm) then things will be better.

A british or US Citizen cannot travel with an expired passport ..... even when you check google, it is typically not allowed to travel with an expired passport

Once it is expired it is no longer a valid passport

BA refused to all my MIL fly in Sept 2020 with an expired Nigeria passport. According to them the system wasnt even allowing check in.... we were at Heathrow and wasnt allowed to fly that day . BA said it only if you have two nationality and the second passport is still valid then maybe but with one passport No.

That's strange. Ordinarily they should not deny one from going back to his/her country of origin. The problem may have been their inability to read the passport. I believe it should still be readable even after expiry.

I am a Cloud/Infrastructure Architect with over 8 years of work experience. I am currently looking for a job in the UK under the Tier 2 Visa Skilled shortage list. I have seen tons of jobs. I see the new Immigration law takes effect from Jan 1 2021, for skilled workers outside the EEA. What are my chances of landing a good job. I am based in Lagos Nigeria. Also would it be possible if I visit the UK next year, see if I get a sponsor in the UK and come back to Nigeria to apply for a Tier 2 visa? Please I would like someone who is experienced for guidance.

in addition to what @Aphrodite007 said you can also check jobserve.co.uk and filter jobs based on those that are willing to sponsor. I suggest you contact the job recruiter directly. Also start with companies rather than recruitment agencies.

For me sha i like new houses since I dey live in one as a renter . Nothing like tear rubber house

New house is "sweet" and less stressful to move into. Add the advantage of warranty and not having to worry about some repairs for a number of years. I hear they are mostly over priced but in my area, it was difficult for me to compare prices because most of the old houses (more spacious) were more expensive. Also, someone in a new build near ours sold in about a year for a hefty profit (>20k). Our estate is till under development and similar ones being sold now are 10k higher than ours.

Good morning all.

I am really happy to see that a lot of fellow Nigerians are relocating to the UK and doing very well for themselves. It's very refreshing to hear irrespective of the obstacles we face on our journey to success.

Having said that, I want to say that it is highly impossible for anybody to come from Nigeria or any other 3rd world country and in less than 2 years OWN a house or a brand new 2019/20202021 car. If you noticed, I placed a huge emphasis on the word 'OWN'. If you take a mortgage to buy a house or you are making installmental payments for the brand new car you bought, I am sorry, you do not own those properties and you have plunged yourself into debt. It can take more than 30 years to clear these debts. If something happens and you are not able to make the payments, they would be re-possessed immediately.

My advice for anybody coming on a tier 2 visa is to save and aim for (financial) stability. Getting a mortgage, buying brand new fancy cars, and making any unnecessary purchases within the first 2 years is really not ideal, in addition to all other monthly bills & taxes that will be paid. Use this time to build wealth, save, build a good credit e.t.c. If you end up losing the job and are not able to secure another one under the grace period you would be removed out of the country. Why not try to settle down and after 5 years of being under tier 2 status you would be eligible to apply for ILR which is one of the most stable statuses for immigrants as your stay will no longer be dependent on your work sponsor.

I think it is important for us not to give our country people the wrong impression of life here in the western world. I'm quite sure most of us might have had the experience of receiving phone calls to send money back home because they think we are living in heaven on earth. We are currently in unprecedented times, multiple jobs are no longer secure mostly due to the economic fallout of the pandemic. I can only say that the most secure jobs presently are GP & nursing jobs within the NHS.

Aiming for financial stability should be the objective.

On the ownership part, it is safe for him/her to say they own the house. If you have a mortgage it is generally viewed as home ownership. Same cannot necessarily be said of the car. You have made very valid points and for those viewing this thread and are new in the UK or planning to move, take your time and be careful. I will advise that except you can afford it ( and for me to afford means if you have spare cash that is way above what you paid for the car), go for a used car. You can get nearly new vehicles for a few thousand pounds cheaper than a new one. But if you can afford it, why not? We bought a nearly new car last year (19 plate) about 3k miles for about £10k lower than we would have paid for a new one.

That was how one recruiter was trying to "bobo" me yesterday that once i work for 3 years then i can apply for ILR. I just told him OK.

He may have been right. I think one of those talent visas leads to ILR in 3 years, I don't know if that has changed.

The caseworker harsh die. A friend submitted 2 weeks or so early. The caseworker held on to his application till his ILR complete. The rule is 28 days so I think he got lucky

Despite the protestations, the case worker refused to budge.

Mine is telling me they don’t let me work until I get an outcome of my visa (visa that i can’t even submit application for until Nov 10 because it’s expiring Dec 10).

I think it is 28 days before so yours should be by Nov 12. I know of someone who was denied for applying for ILR a day earlier.

Funny thing happened to me... visa was to expire 24th August, i applied for myself and 3 kids a week before but couldn't get an appointment till September 23rd and this was paid for, so ontop of the huge amount £8.2k, added £276 for paid appointment, no problem, God dey. You won't believe, not up to 3 weeks later, we got 3 BRPs in the mail dated 7th October instead of 4 BRPs. Really fast and no decision letter or mail as others received but i noticed that the validity on the BRPs was 42 months instead of 30 months making my route 6yrs+ instead of 5 years. I was shocked so i sent a mail to the email provided if there's issue with BRP validity and reply was that we don't fall under the category for Administrative review and gave me number to call, called the number and the lady said, the extra 12 months on my validity doesn't matter, that i could choose to apply for ILR when i complete 5 years or b4 the validity expires which could give me time to save and i also asked about my daughters missing BRP. She said it will come, that though we applied as a family, they are treated individually.

Just curious, how does the 42 month validity instead of 30 months make your route 6yrs instead of 5yrs?

There’s no different between the two. For the EH I copied my work history from my CV and pasted. Then for previous skills and experience, I copied all my skills that I learned over the years (which should normally be in your CV too) and pasted.

Example of EH is: Customer Care, Boots, April 2000-2012. I offered help to customers.... etc

Example of PS&E is: Microsoft office, leadership, NVQ, etc

I’m meant to resume work in civil service but they said that because my spousal visa is expiring in Dec, that I have to get an outcome of my second visa (flr), before I will be allowed to resume.

Shey all I need to do is show proof that I have applied to renew my visa and then I will be allowed to work for another 3 months? Because Home office has a huge backlog and haven’t even answered someone that applied for their extension in September.

Oya while waiting, please how did you fill in the application? Any tips?
I also saw employment history and another section with Previous skills and experience,do you know the difference between the two?

2. It is possible to work to augment your savings. Hopefully finding a job won't be too difficult but bear in mind that unemployment has increased due to COVID-19
3. Your school should have provided this information to you. If not, check your school website.
4. There's always prospect for jobs. Put in the effort and see if you find something. If you are looking for graduate roles, you must have started applying by now for September 2021 start. Leave it till November or December and things get more difficult.

The virus needs a few days to cook inside your system before a test can pick it. So if you travel today with a test done yesterday, on getting to Nigeria, you’ll still be negative even though you’ve been exposed. Symptoms show after 5-7 days of exposure (less for people with poor immune system) and non existent symptom for people with amazing immune system.

Exactly my point. That's why the test is not conducted immediately on arrival but some days later.

I believe the test is after a couple of days of arrival. I agree that it is expensive and shouldn't be except if the test is free.

If you have mandated passengers to do one 96 hours to arrival. Why charge them to repeat it in Nigeria. So the one abroad is not good enough ehnn. The whole system needs change not just SARS

I think it actually makes sense to retest few days after arrival as a lot can happen between tests, even on the flight.
