Lol. Skill is good, but it's not the be all and end all for success in life. Abeg what skill does our richest man Dangote have? His businesses that brought him money for refinery and other stuff came from the same buying and selling that mama at the cornerside of your street is doing. He only had connections and resources she doesn't have. Uncountable people with skill are poor and not engaged. I was one until I got a generous grant to make something of all my knowledge and skills. OP, you don buy market. No single person can survive all this uncountable advice. Remember, me I added in my contribution that you can just advertise my items you know nothing about, people call you to buy, then you simply buy from me and sell. Your margins would be low because me sef I want money and I've already done the heavy lifting and lost money to make my business possible. Your margins will definitely be better than all those suggestions of keeping money in the money market. Ultimately, those people also invest in businesses to grow money. Let me tell an anecdote: I'm not a child, right. In 2014 my pension fund that I will access when I turn 50 (getting real close now) was 1.2m naira, after I was given 400k from formerly 1.6m. They have now "grown" the money back to about 1.4m or so. SECURE GROWTH. my dear brother, what was the purchasing power of 1.2m in 2014 and can 2 full million buy same today? Dollar was 155 naira that period and it later became 178 or so. I was already importing stuff from China then, so I know. How much is dollar today? Have the pension people actually grown my 1.2m to the 1.4 it is today, or have they impoverished me? Next time anybody tells you to keep money in Nigeria to be "growing" somewhere, tell them my story. The best honest way to grow money is to be part of a business. You don't have to be the expert in the business if someone else can take care of that side. You may have contributions to make that require no skill and people don't immediately see the benefit. Right now in my business, if I could simply find someone who has a reliable contact that can run errands for them in America, he has already contributed to my business. Abeg, lemme rest. PS: One person contacted me on the e-mail I provided in my first post on this topic and carefully hid himself completely while asking me to tell him the details of my business because he has money to contribute. In this Nigeria? No sir; I don't need your money. I've seen too much in this wicked country to be so foolish. My merchandise are already worth several million and I would rather continue progressing slowly that have another Nigerian wreck my life. This time, it would be suicide and I don't want to have to commit suicide. He slipped back into obscurity. |
belcom10:I dunno about that |
The paypal freeze was a security freeze to work on their systems, much like how our banks would send messages that they would not be available from so so time to so so time. The paypal mumus did it after disrupting services for a whole week plus. They now require your phone for OTP that you'll enter to get into your account. Seems some card works and some don't. I don't think first bank MasterCard works as yet, but I'm still checking. God, I suffered the last one week |
belcom10:You don't need to do anything na. once you've chosen your MasterCard on paypal as your preferred payment method, once you have to pay for something, just choose the paypal option and paypal will automatically debit your Zenith MasterCard |
Now, I've got more interesting discovery. Frustrated by this ongoing problem, I decided to waste a little money to buy the cheapest thing I could find on Aliexpress. I paid $2.80 on the item, used the cards that have refused to work on ebay/paypal and voila! So this is not bank matter but specific merchants (namely paypal). I'm deeply frustrated and confused with this development |
I'm happy people have finally made this thread because it seemed I was the only Nigerian doing online purchases for months. As far back as May (I think), First Bank charged me 412 to the dollar and I cried out on nairaland, not much response. Everything said here I've experienced. I'm waiting for midnight to try to pay for something I bought a week ago and that an "unpaid item" complaint has been launched against me. The sad part is these useless banks don't tell you anything and in my case I re-registered my cards, my paypal account and all, not knowing where the error was coming from. First, I was told there was now a $500 cap (1st Bank) and this July, I revived my Zenith Bank account dormant for many years and I was told their limit was $1,000. They were the ones who restricted my purchases first and after all the stress, I finally got one if them to tell me the limit was now $200. This country is a joke and unrecognized in the do comity of proper countries. Only South Africa is considered a country in Africa in the global financial and commerce family |
Christiano25:Problem in Nigeria is trust, since everyone is too smart for their own good. I was in your situation. From 4m, thinking what to do, I blew 1.5m before I got a definitive answer, inspite of fact that I have real skills o. some of the money wasted was investing a small amount as trial in somebody's established business and she quickly stole the money because it is assumed if somebody gives you money, he has too much. My own problem now is the opposite of yours on the last one year. I now have a business (that involves SKILL) and I'm making a profit, but could do a lot better if I had much more capital. You could join me and I'll make it such that you don't actually just give me money but you buy something from me and sell. Ehen you're comfortable enough, we can go to next level. My estimated value of merchandise + cash in hand is now about 3.5m from 2.5 just 2 yrs ago. Remember I live, pay rent and all from this income o. What stocks/bond or money market cam give you that? If I had a better logistics arrangement from my source country (who knows, you may have that as your contribution to the biz) and more capital, ideally at leat 5m cash, I would do much better. it is an international business if there's enough cash for it. Contact me on my name at gmail. com. Nigerians have so damaged their country and theirselves by their tendency to defraud one another and trust is a scarce commodity here, but if you try, you could be pleasantly surprised. Otherwise, too bad. All I need is capital; I also don't want to bring people into my business cos I don't want stress and trouble. But since I don't know where to source cash and I see this your post, that's why I'm offer this |
slimanyd:Read what he wrote from the beginning. That is help, even if he turns out to be a fraudster. You will tell someone where to go, what to do; not where not to go and what not to do. |
slimanyd:You are probably right, but you've done NOTHING to help me on my way, only to tell me to run from danger. The best way to run from the danger is not to be here at all. I wonder if that's your solution |
slimanyd:If you know something, why not say it? |
cmoney22222:What! But why is no one talking about it? I came back to nairaland after long absence to search for this topic because I thought it would be a front page topic and I saw nothing -- forcing me to open this thread |
Milkyn:I want to know more, hence my posting the question. I'm far more concerned about not being defrauded because the business of defrauding others is a nationally recognised means of making money here. I don't want to sell. I pay for things online via PayPal at the high rate and want to get a better deal |
Please has anyone here checked how much first bank is charging for their online transactions through MasterCard? It has been around 365 naira for the 2 years I've been using it but in my last two transactions, I observed the naira deducted was higher than I expected and working it out, it cams to 400 naira to the dollar. I queried them on Twitter and got no reply yet. Also I see on nairaland here people trading in PayPal funds and so many others I don't know about, at nice rates. I would like to know how I can benefit from it if it's not a fraud. I think I've seen rates like 340 or even less to the dollar and it's not too good to be true since the official exchange rate is even less than that. Anyone with knowledge? |
Good day all. My lg g4 suddenly won't come out of booting one year ago and i googled and discovered it was a known problem. The internal memory contains some of my files and i locked my pictures with it too. I kept the phone like that, one year now. I'm wondering if there's a solution. The phone doesn't even power up again now. I want to save the phone, but i also wa. t to retrieve my files and information within it. Advice would be appreciated |
Good day all. I'm pretty uncomplicated. I don't know where to post this but I'm giving a try here. I just want to know where to buy the above in small quantities. It is a very good drying agent (desiccant) and I need one. Any directions to where chemicals are sold in Ibadan or even Lagos would be appreciated. |
If you like to build any small thing but lack the materials and tools to carry it out, or if you want to work on something you already have but would like to modify or repair it but you've not found anyone with the tools or experience, I could be your man. Just contact me on 09097268834 and let's see what we can do. I am also looking for people with technology background who are willing to learn some skills and how to operate different hand tools and power tools to be my assistant. It's not a job, pls. Please spread the word. I just don't know a better way to let people know what i offer. Note: I'm in Ibadan |
Morwendy:In general, the vast majority of Nigerians are brought up to not value honesty or live by it. Indeed, there are accolades in society for being "smart" (dishonest) and people defrauded or cheated are the ones blamed for being "fools". If the Nigerian lives abroad, the tendency increases exponentially as only a tiny fraction of the Nigerian population can honestly meet the unrealistic conditions imposed on us to travel and live in the developed world. One more important thing: the average Nigerian "smart guy" sees you people in the west as fools, simpleton for being brought up in a society that values honesty and high morality. I can not begin to tell you how much I'm hated here in Nigeria for saying this and living a life to buck the trend. This is not my usual nairaland handle for saying this -- this is for business prospects but I had to use this to reply. As for the name issue, absolutely irrelevant but the larger picture is the most pertinent. Nigerians are brought up to be fraudulent in their laser focus on pursuing material things and they're not aware of this just same way a pig isn't aware the place it likes staying is filthy |
abbeyty:Lol |
oluwaseunla:Wouldn't it be better if you stated how many kilometres covered per money made and whether it was on 3mbridge freeway or on holdup/slow traffic etc? |
Hello ladies and gents. Please help me solve this once and for all: a handle "AutoElectNG" sent me a PM but as has been the case, i get a notification and get told that since I'm not connected, i would have to reply on my e-mail. It never works. I never get to read the PM. Pls help with the following: 1. Pls tell the said person to e-mail me direct at dwightventures@gmail.com (anyone knows the person? ) 2. Pls can anyone advise me how to get future pms directly? I've been using other forums for a long time before nairaland and never encountered this challenge Thanks |
GAZZUZZ:Mr Gazzuz, let me just say I'm amazed (if my assumption is right) that someone like you exists in Nigeria, born and bred. You've been a blessing to many. kudos. But then I'm not on board with this assumption of a linear correlation between engine size and fuel economy of cars. I can't be bothered to type the details but suffice to say I'm quite versed in the theory and data on this issue |
Steflon:I really detest ppl coming on a serious and decent forum like this to be spewing trash of religion. Cant you keep your religious stupidity to yourself? I couldn't unsee the post, hence I replied. |
slavemerchant:You're not aware ppl proffer solutions but nobody wants solutions? You don't know I'm a prominent one amongst them? What do u know of me besides a moniker? Youre one of the majority dumb Nigerians I whine about like a sisi. Anyway this is not the nairaland account I use for that. AND I'm not a young man, you typical Nigerian! |
GAZZUZZ:Thanks for the retort. The Nigerian stupidity is gradually forcing me to start commenting on this thread. Ive been reading over 60 pages quietly, preparatory to becoming involved in the biz, but I just couldn't cope today. Let me put on my activist cap and repeat: all of Nigeria's problems are caused and perpetuated by the Nigerian people. Their worldview is emblematic of savage, pre-1500 human beings. We shouldn't even be allowed to drive cars (a 19th century invention) in this country |
afroxyz:There's a reason why Nigeria is a backward society, unable to progress. it has to do with the majority mentality and popularly accepted modes of thought and action (aka values). This isn't the account I use for my failed social activism. I'm here to try to make some money, but sometimes I just can't help it. Im deeply sorry for this country with our self-inflicted sorrow. It never leaves them wherever they go in the world; just that proper countries won't let them go all-out in their Nigerian filth as they would here |
offer still open. Amazing how, with unemployment so high and low skill level of the average Nigerian youth, no one is taking up this offer. All we want is cash? |
Epphy:Thanks a million. What can be done if only Nigeria harnesses for good the power of the internet! |
Epphy:Thanks. pls can you find me a link ti check the news? You know, its not easy to acquire a car for this purpose only to get an earth-shattering shocker of a news. I thought they were even asking for 09 cars now that we are in 2018. Thanks |
cooldood:Pls help. I thought they said uber requires the cars be 08 reg cars as of last year. So I assume cars 8 yrs old and younger. Now I'm seeing 04 05 cars in the uber thread. I'm really at sea here. I need definitive answers ad I'm considering committing myself to this venture. Thanks |
I'm not a fancy organisation; just an experienced engineer/technician. If you live in Ibadan and all your engineering has been book knowledge, you can come join me as I set up my place where you'll gain hands-on experience with many different hand and power tools and the concept behind them. I am trying to invent some wood-based products and processes. You would learn electrical technology, mechanical technology, solar technology and a host of other stuff if you're interested, with the machines and tools to do so. In turn, you will be there to work with me on my projects and hopefully if you're an undergraduate or recent graduate in engineering (especially mechanical), you can do some calculations for me as directed, as I've been out of school for 20 years. Reach me on dwightventures@gmail.com and I will get back to you |
some people just call money like it was nothing. If you could make a lot if money from that business line, you wouldn't even ask for partnership - let alone 10m. I want to buy MACHINES to set up a small FACTORY and I don't need 10m. I have two people who do trainings - one security and one in the engineering field. All they have are a few materials. They love that field of business because they say they don't have to spend money to make money. Problem why they can't earn a living from it alone: IT'S NOT LUCRATIVE. VERY FEW CLIENTS. I always fear Nigerians and their capacity for "mischief"! |
entparrot:Is it a coincidence that any Nigerian would want to work for a foreign-owned company of Europeans or Americans over companies owned by a fellow Nigerian? And they are all doing business. We are a wicked, inhuman people and our society is the worse off for it |

I appreciate the kind words.
