@ Rob-roy, the companies listed on the stock exchange have different year-end dates. You can find each company's year-end by going to the stock exchange website and searching for the company you are interested in. @ CrazyT, Japaul's IPO is not yet out. Should be any day now. |
Varmich:It depends on if/when you are planning to retire. Stay tuned, lots of good info on the site. BTW, do kids eat into your net worth as much as they say? |
@ Debosky, you are the first Arsenal fan I've met to talk correct. RTK is probably a liar, but he wrote a (sometimes) useful book. @ Mimiko, I'm glad he made u to dream. He made me to dream too, but he is prob still a liar. The physiques I see on WWE encouraged me to put on ~10kg of muscle. Doesn't make pro-wrestling real. ![]() |
shigidi:To quote my friend, T-Banj; "Access Bank has disappeared". Tell your broker your are willing to pay extra and see if someone will be willing to cross with you. Hell, make me an offer. I am the proud owner of 40k units. Starting bid is N25 and only because I like u! Skye bank or FCMB? Hmmmmmm. The spread sheet says FCMB's PE (34.5) is 1.5Xs Skye Bank's PE (21.4). Skye Bank is also the winner in earnings growth %. Skye bank is it. UNLESS, the PO gist is true and then the double whammy of frozen price and shares dilution can tilt the balance back to FCMB. Disclaimer: All based on past performance. Easimoni offers no guarantee that historical trends are indicators of future performance. |
@ lolobo, you got analysis from Lead Capital |
jehosaphat:The answer: Big, Fat NO! I suspect they split the share so it'll be less attractive for you PO buyers to dump the shares when you ultimately get your certificates. Nice move by big elephant ![]() |
babyosisi:True talk! |
Khaleefa:Khaleefa, the offer has been discussed at length on another thread. https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-57763.0.html @ Wendy. I believe what ebos said about buying after the offer closed. I have seen a couple of co-workers go through the back door during other offers. Never seen it on a stock that has had it's suspension lifted though. Just more proof of my beef w/ NSE. too many loopholes. |
@ yodiyokun, welcome to Nairaland. E be like say you and me na kindred spirits. I too like your gist! olofinjeje:Now that is the KOKO. I myself just bought a few. Will sell after I get >N5 |
@ donne4real, Bros, we never reach there yet! In the mean time, make you manage this one. Na hand u go take calculate that % we you dey talk sha. http://www.cashcraft.com/pricemovement.asp |
princejay:then you are in the wrong thread. See the title? It's not about the validity of his teachings (I agree they are mostly valid when applicable), it's about the lies he told to grab our attention. |
MyPeace:No effect. |

Temmie10:there are lots of investment gurus who don't pretend to have "rich dads" to sell books. RTK wrote books before but until he invented rich dad, those books did not sell. He found his hook and good luck to him. But he is most likely a liar, but a liar with some good advice. but still a liar. |
Vitastraka:Huh? If the N10 share becomes N14 you are up 40%. If it is split in 2 and gets to N7 (from N5), you are still up 40%. Nothing gained or lost. the only benefit is that Nigerians' (blind) love for "bonuses" will likely precipitate a bull run. In other countries, it's frowned upon because it increases stock volatility. That is why Mr Buffet has NEVER split his company stock. It doesn't add value.I always hear "Well I bought a stock for N100 and they did a 1-for-1 and now it sells for N100 so I have one free share". If only I had n1k for everytime a co-worker said something like that. I always say "instead of 2 shares worth N100, you'd have 1 share worth N200 and you'd have a lot fewer shareholders which will make bull runs more likely as supply is scarce (see NASCON recently) and make bear runs very rare since there are fewer fickle people to dump shares". Ask yourself how many bear runs you've seen on Nestle. They won't split shares. Not to talk of people who have waited 2+ years to get the "bonus" certificates. |
@ fizofly, you are not doing too bad! At age 26, I was worth exactly $1k. Now, hmmmmmm. Don't think that level of info is for public domain consumption. at least a couple of people know my real name. + it will only invigorate the scammers who've been bombarding me since I posted my email addy here. |
Temmie10:It's certainly better for a savvy investor than a share split/bonus. |
and BTW, half the advice in his book are not practical. The only useful thing (i found) in that book ws the definition of assets. the rest have remained largely useless info. Good info but useless. He can't (won't?) even tell you how/when to pick high yield assets. He just boasts about how he's done it in the past. |
@ mentor_man, that the principles espoused in his book work is not the question. You may remember the author James Frey who wrote "memoirs" that turned out to be mostly falsified, he was ripped publicly by the US media and his publishers offered refunds. The lies didn't make the book any less entertaining. Well, RTK wrote "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" is a memoir style. There are serious implications in the US about writing a book and not differentiating fiction from facts. IF he came out and confessed the rich dad never existed, no one in the US would ever listen to him or ask him to speak publicly again. It would not make his book any less valuable, it would just make it a work of fiction. That distinction is very very important to writers/speakers. |
@ Analyst, now I agree with you. If the bank exploits the investing public's lack of financial education, that's the public's fault and not the bank's. As per overpriced, forward PE does not look tooooooooo bad. Maybe not too overpriced, just a little. |
@ Thethy, no one is saying he is not real or that his advice is not valid. The gist is that he lied about having a "rich dad". It was a nice marketing ploy and he just needs to come out and say it. his was the 1st personal finance book I ever read (my unrelated "big-sis" bought it for me after my BSc) and I've been addicted since. Not knocking his teachings (at least not all of them), just saying he most likely lied about his rich dad. No one has been able to find the rich dad (Hawaii is a very small place) and RTK never spoke about him in previous books. It's simply a marketing gimmick. |
@ Ashiwaju, no veks my brother! I was not abuzing u. Not using spell chek does not make you an ileterate any moor than not having a PhD make Dangote/Femi ileterates eether. Look up Dangote on Wikipedia. He is arknoldeged as de riches black man in da wurld. Bottom line is Jimoh is simply spitting out vitriol (my spell check is back on ). All 3 of them are billionares and no one ( not even Jimoh) has the full financial picture of Dangote. No need to get personal and call peeps "illiterates" because they owe banks money. I have money to pay my current mortgage but I chose to invest it the NSE instead and I'm up >100% since Jan. Am I an illiterate? Pay-off a debt at 6% or invest it at 100+%. It doesn't take a PhD to ansah (this silly spell-check again) that question! There's a time to borrow and time to pay back. |
@ hola2ng, the problem is that people are blinded by "bonuses". They think they are getting free shares. If Zenith had declared a 50% drop in profits and zero dividend but still "gave" 1 for 4, there would have been a surge in demand. I've spoken to otherwise brilliant people who just obstinately believe that bonus shares are free (with the name bonus, what would you expect). A good friend/colleague who is deep into the market always tells me whenever I vent about bonus issue "hunters": "if people like that don't exist, how will I make more money?" |
@ Wanaj0, No give me heart-attack o! Wema must come out very soon. It should be in the next few weeks with rumours of a PO approaching. Also, the "koko" is that they have submitted the results for audting. |
otokx:otokx, actually his comments are very DESTRUCTIVE! A split or reverse split have ZERO meaning to any knowledgeable investor and don't add/subtract add value. Companies use them only to control the amount of outstanding shares. Let's use his Access examples. If I bought 1 million shares @ N6.5, my investment is worth N6.5M. After the reverse split, I now have 500k shares worth N13. Guess what? I still have a N6.5M naira investment! If someone thinks Access' price has doubled, then he/she needs to get financially literate. Companies do splits (which for some reason we like to call bonuses) and reverse splits to manage the share price in a range people are comfortable with. Take the example of Warren Buffet's company Berkshire Hathaway; they have never done a stock split/bonus issue and the stock is now worth ~ $100K. Yes you read it right. 1 share is $100k. Would you pay for that? Microsoft shares would be worth 10s of $k if not for repeated stock splits aimed at keeping the price in the 10s of $ instead. If Access wanted to raise a N100B, they could easily have offered 20B shares @ N5 ea. The only proof mr Analyst should provide is a comparison of future earnings of Access to other banks/companies on the NSE. Let's see if Access is going to provide more/less ROI for us than, say, my beloved GTBank. He needs to post hard numbers and incomplete sentences. I'm not in love with Access, I just hate to see people twisting numbers. |
@ askance, nince try at guessing what FBN will do with all that money. I've wondered the same thing myself. The number you calculated that concerns me is the 27.5B shares. If the absorb that many shares, they'll be hard pressed to make N1.20 EPS. I'm not sure they'll be allowed to invest shareholders funds in fixed deposit accounts (someone pls correct me) and generate extra earnings. With so many shares, it's hard to see the price going anywhere. |
You didn't use spell check on your post. Does that make you an illiterate? I'd say no. And you clearly don't know how businesses are run; you don't always run business using equity (your own money), a lot of times, you use debt because it's cheaper. Financial analysts; pls correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it correct to use debt when the interest rate is higher than your ROE? Anyway, the point is there are times to borrow money and there are times to sell shares. Dangote employs 30k+ people and that's a much bigger contribution to our employment % than Jimoh. And how do you know Oprah and Gates don't owe banks money. Almost all business do. That's why banks are there. Jimoh Ibrahim is well known for being a hip-shooter. I'd take anything he says with a pinch of salt. |
Wow, that's some major beef. I don't agree with the illiteracy comments. Dangote went to college in Egypt and I'm pretty sure Femi went to college as well. You don't have to get a PhD or go to Harvard to be considered educated. Dangote has contributed a lot more than Jimoh with all the factories he has set up. Femi has not contributed much in my opinion; importing crude products does not add much value. |
WAPCO is fast becoming my worst buy ever! ![]() |
@ Egoldman, check it out here http://www.nsepro.com/ The site is down as I speak (or type) but the results were posted earlier today. |
