BIGBOYLARY: QUESTIONS: Can anybody in the house shed more light on these following for more understanding OFFER TYPE
HIPO ---- Hybrid Initial Public Offer
HPO Hybrid Public Offer
IPO Initial Public Offering
PP Private Placement
PO Public Offer
RI Rights Issue
and the type of offer method companies adopt such as: SAL Offer for Sale SUB Offer for Subscription RI Rights Issue A PO is open to anyone, a PP is open to select investors (usually high-net worth). POs are regulated, PPs are not. An IPO is the first PO a comany does and is usually done as soon as the company lists. Hybrid offers are a combination of SAL, SUB and RI. Once you do more than one of the 3, you have a hybrid whatever. SAL - someone is selling you already issued shares, no new shares are being created. Open to new shareholders SUB - selling you newly issued shares. New shares will be created and PE will be diluted. Open to new shareholders RI - an SUB/SAL open to only existing shareholders. Most often for new shares. Hope the answers suffice |

Every portfolio is bleeding in various degrees, even those of the gurus. Its a market wide thing. It's a SEASON. Seasons change. Please do not worry. Alot of folks are looking for money to pick UP your bleeding stocks. If you know anything about economics, then guessing the effect of that action won't require a degree.

Keziah: Please can any Guru in the house enlighten me about stock (buying shares)? I am a novice in the game. I would really appreciate anyone that will tell me about the pros and cons in the trade. Not to be flippant but the "pros and cons" is that the market goes up and down! The stock market is the best tool for creating wealth and is open to all people. You can read this thread, all 700 pages of it for really good advice. Also try the "university" section of investopedia.com and learn about fundamental analysis and technical analysis
I advised someone to buy this Daar Communication Shares, but i don't really know how good it is, or the returns. It think the consensus is there have been and will be better deals than Daar. I'd also suggest that all newbies avoid PPs until you get a feel for the market. I've been in the NSE since Dec 04 and just bought my first PP last month. If you must get a PP, Omatek is ongoing, try to find a contact at Afribank Capital (don't ask me, I have none and I'm not doing this PP - no kishi)
Which will a guru advise a novice to buy; the offer for subscription or the offer for sale. See above
Please your prompt reply(s) will be greatly appreciated, because i do not want to lead another person in the path i have not thread. I don't accept thanks, gimme 10% of your money! (just kidding)
Cheers! See my respones in blue text. |

loma: Interesting write-up on the Pension Fund and the Stock MArket.
http://allafrica.com/stories/200803250095.html Thanks for link but I think the article is severely flawed (as a matter of fact, I'm worried about the quality of journalism in naija today. The way stories are written makes me shake my head). His point about pen funds being unable to invest in (potentially lucrative a la Chams) PPs which limits profits is well made. The points he made about Wema and Costain are unfounded. Smart investing is about what returns a coy will provide in the future, it's about finding a stock with a trailing PE of (say) 50 and a forward PE of (say) 10. Such a company is clearly turning things around and turn-arounds are the hallmarks of all major market success (including Mr Buffett and more recently John Paulson). Those who predicted Wema and Costain last year would have smiled to the bank (assuming you got out before TS) even though it seems Wema "cheated". Anyway, I like the points but not the way it was made. |

8oracle: When i read all about investment in stocks and whatnots, i have myself a big laugh. especially investing in the Nigeria stock market, pretending to be alive but dead.
For a starter who can sell his or her stock in less than 72hrs, if it becomes too urgent that need money to execute a project or save a life? for example the lazy man's way of thinking goes this way.To buy a stock today selling at N10 and lets saywithin 2weeks this same stocks jumps to N30 per share and you have invested N1000,000 or N50,000, with a little mathematics you can see you profit on paper, but can you sale these shares within 72hrs and recoup your profit?
A classical example to show that Nigeria stock market is a dead pretending to be alive is. Can you remember a company or corporate company you bought their stock in the past one year or more, which you havent received your share certificate/s?
Hence without a share certificate How can you sell your stock? My opinion is Nigeria Stock Market is purely through and through OPM Others People's Money. Apart from a little confusion at the writing style, my other reaction was LOL! |

aktopgun: @easi does SMN have a general forum where we can talk because last i checked we still had to click on individual stocks to talk on them. That is still the (unfortunate) case. There was a thread started for us when Seun shut us down in Dec. Can't seemt to find that thread. SMN's style spoils the "flow" and one is always clicking all over the place to get up to speed. But wetin we go do na? |

try saving your pics as a "GIF" file if you have a photo editor or power point. It really shrinks the file size. Most GIFs from Nig Sec will run around 75kb |

Diamond's FY is next month so it must rise. the guy was asking mainly to preserve capital. V little upside with those 2, but also lil or no downside. |

I have noticed that the some of you are waiting for the bulls! from my little overall market analysis, i think the market will remain bearish up till the middle of the yearat the least. The market currently sits in an insanely overbought region and the drop is expected to continue for a while Dem never teach me that one yet O! No be say I no believe you but who is predicting the drop to continue and why? Will it affect the entire market and will the drop be attenuated by the upcoming earnings reporting season? Anyway, I don talk my own; a bounce back by Thursday at the latest and sustained bullish run in April if earnings are above expectation |

crazyT: Aktopgun and any other person out there abegi is this a temporary blood shedding or long one make I dey prepare for re-entering? CrazyT, This chart is useful for watching the ebbs and flows of the NSE. You can see that me have bull and bear runs in repeatable intervals. Starting from March 07, I can count about 8 cycles. The bulls have mostly beaten the bears hence the entire market is trending up but the bears come in to correct every few weeks. You can see that the 9 day RSI is currently at zero and the 14 day RSI is ~40 and heading down. I expect no more than two more days of bears (by which time the 14 day RSI will hit zero too) before the bulls come back. They 14 day RSI almost never hits zero in a largely bullish market. In other words, since the beginning of March, we've been witnessing the correction of the 2nd longest bull run we've had in the last 15 months (see the RSI at 100 throughout Feb 08?). Today is the day to issue buy orders! Shig, I hope you listened 2 weeks ago when I told u to keep cash because the bears were coming! Now, what to buy. If I put my Glass on, I might see a Beta deal but I'm too busy looking for a Diamond for the missus. Did D-banj say "no long thing"? I could sworn he said "yes Long-man". And the UBA brothers may not be crooks after-all.
