@ EMMAACHILE, no offense, but these numbers are biased toward encouraging people to participate in the PO. I must admit, I'm shocked by Access banks OUTSTANDING results, but I have issues with the numbers posted: A forward EPS of N1.3? If they make N9.1B next year and they sell the 4.72 billion shares on offer, they'll have 11.7B outstanding shares and an EPS of 78k, less than the current EPS. They'll probably sell more than 4.72 billion shares (if the offer is successful) and the EPS will be even lower (than 78k). But then again, I think the forecast of N9.1B might be a little low, so maybe it's all a "wash". Now that I see the results, it looks like Access PO may be a buy (that sound you hear is me eating crow ) because you'd be buying at a forward PE of ~19.5 which is much lower than most of the banks out there. But I still say no to POs.It's good to be back. 1 week of training followed by one week of travel! |
@ Proshareng, We are cool. ![]() |
there's another thread that has discussed this topic at length. https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-40073.0.html |
@ CrazyT, The closer I look at this market, the more difficult it is to pick stocks. If I can't pick holes in any company, Frank, wanaj0 or Wendy can. If I must pick, I like GTBank. |
crazyT:NO NO NO NO NO! A bonus share does NOT give you returns. On the day the "bonus" is issued, Ashaka's price will be adjusted downwards to negate the effect of the so called bonus issue. Your returns due to bonus is exactly ZERO! You'll get 2% for dividends and that's it. If you are investing, pls pay attention to Ashaka's price on 9th August (the payment date), and you'll see it drop 16%. |
@ tundysho, the prices on cashcraft are most likely the closing prices. For opening, closing, high and low, try Zenith securities http://www.zenithsecuritiesng.com/marketanalysis.php Instead of Gainers/Losers, choose "pricelist" instead. You can look at the day they bought your stock. If they bought above the high for the day, there's your proof. If not, you can't always expect them to buy at the low of the day, you'll just have to live with the price they get your orders. I wonder whatever happened to TRADE ALERT. |
@Wanaj0, the fact that the CEO took so much pain to answer your questions really impresses me. The ability to respond to customer concerns is something that is sorely lacking in most Nigerian businesses. I wish these guys the best. |
@ Poster, based on your posts, u appear to be in business. Face that and don't sell your body/soul. |
Nice one ![]() |
enurayce:http://www.investopedia.com/categories/acronyms.asp Use this link to search for all the terms you mention. Definitions and advice are all there. You should also search for the article on fundamental analysis. It will help you use those ratios to determine current and future values of a share. |
Oh, and kudos to you analysts who recommended May & Baker on this and other threads. 108% increase in PAT. (and the price dropped, what's going on in that market?) I'll see if my broker can lay his hands on some. |
@ All, On page 41 of this thread, I posted an article about the drop of Ashaka Cement and inlcuded a link to a proshare article where some analyst "predicted" (in hindsight) that the downward trend was obvious. Anyway, I bring it up because Ashaka's FY result was released today and earnings are down 24%. The EPS is now 2.31 and PE is 35. For some reason, the price still rose 5% today. I think that downward trend from 2 weeks ago was due to some insiders privy to the results dumping some shares. Thank God I bough WAPCO instead, but I'm beginning to doubt the Cement thing. Too many companies! Does anyone know why Ashaka's earnings dropped and should we be worried about all the Cement companies (esp. with one eye on Obajana)? |
@ Dollyp1cute, no I never have. Maybe I should. ![]() I think if you get your CSCS account update on the Lead website, that should be good enough. Unless you have trust issues with Lead. |
dollyp1cute:@ dollyp1cute, I just got the following email from FSDH (not a client but I like their daily reports): Dear Valued Customers, Within the FSDH group we are faced with an increased incidence of clients paying cheques/cash into our various bank accounts (at IBTC-Chartered Plc, Skye Bank Plc and GTBank Plc) without informing anyone in the FSDH group of such lodgments. This situation is creating an increase in reconciliation problems. If you have made such a payment in the past, please contact any member of the FSDH Group with a copy of the relevant bank teller. This will enable us to ensure that your account or investment can be appropriately credited with the proceeds which may still be outstanding. Going forward, please ensure when you make a payment directly into any of the FSDH Group accounts that; 1. The document/teller you complete at the bank bears the name in which your account/investment is registered with us (rather than the name of the person sent to the bank to make the lodgment) and 2. You contact your counter party in the FSDH Group to advise that the payment has been made and forward a copy of the relevant bank teller. We would greatly appreciate your compliance with this procedure as it will enable us to serve you, our valued clients, better. Best Regards. MANAGEMENT |
@ aylala2002, by now u must be tired of people calling you "ayala" Nice post on why the market tanked early this week. You should post more often, after all, the thread is yours. |
dollyp1cute:Dunno if u have online access but their website has not been updated either. They are def having issues. |
dollyp1cute:Why do you suspect Lead? Were they unable to execute orders for you early last week? Anyway, Dr Ndidi let them go with a slap on the wrist Panadol:I like Vetiva, but you need to make your own decision. |
Panadol:I currently use Lead Capital. I'm thinking about switching because they don't offer sound analysis. I have to do my own research and there is a limit to what I can do seeing as I have my own full time job. Even the daily reports they publish contain basic errors (like faulty PEs). |
Panadol:I've been thinking about switching to Vetiva. I love the website and have met a few people who work there. They have a young (and hopefully dynamic) staff. |

There have been several threads on brokers. You can contact anyone of them from the diaspora and fax in any forms they require. I have had colleagues open accounts from the US. You may even be able to deposit your money into a foreign account. Read through this thread for details, websites and the like. https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-12852.0.html |
@ dollyp1cute and ALL, if anyone finds a list of the affected companies, please post it. It's a shame, really. @ oxytech, the standard way to report EPS (and therefore PE) is "trailing": the EPS over the last 4 quarters. It is the way most Nigeria brokers calculate it. When I'm trying to make an investment decision, I look at forward EPS, which takes into account results to be released over my investment horizon (usually 6 mos to 1 yr). That's why I bought WAPCO at N20 last year. You also need to figure in additional shares to be listed in that horizon; Intercontinental EPS is going to drop by half (and double PE) when they list an extra 10B shares in the next few months. A common mistakes brokers make is to not figure in additional shares when a stock is split. My advice is to maintain a database of company results and outstanding shares and learn to calculate your own EPS and PE anyway you want. No comment of TA except that you are right; it is often easily affected by rumors and insider knowledge. |
@ Cheexy, play nice. |
@ Poster, I relocated to naija in 03 and fortunately, I had my company paying for most of my relocation needs. It's a very expensive project but mostly depends on your needs and taste. For instance; If you choose to live in the Lekki-Ajah axis, rent is ~1.5M p.a, maindland is half the price. You have to pay 2 yrs upfront. A toks car is N1-2M, but as an "away" guy, you'd prob need an "ochara" (4give me if I spelled it wrong) N3.5 - 5M Are you married, with kids, shipping personal effects home? I agree with Panadol, if you are independent, N10M is probably a good number. If you have family that can help break you in. Then it's much lower. BTW, have you done NYSC? ![]() |
Let the debate begin! |
All, a nice gentleman posted the memo on the first bank thread. Enjoy. I think this could be a winner if you have N1.65M and can sit on it for 3+ yrs. I'd like for them to show the resumes of the management team in more detail. |
EMMAACHILE:Correct guy! ![]() I have read it and I think if N1.65M is not a big deal to you, you need to invest in this! |
wynn:Penny stocks are penny stocks for a reason: they are hit-and-miss. If you are looking for 100% returns in 3-6 months, try the HYIPs under the "risky business" board. But as our gracious host always reminds us, "you will defintely lose your money". Even speculators (like me ) can't reasonbly expect 100% in <3mos in this market. |
gbengaijot:FY EPS is expected to be >15k. They have also signed a number of contracts with Tinapa, Ghana, Lagos State e.t.c. Should soon start reaping the benefits of the terminal upgrades. |
wanaj0:He claims the stock has "support" at N66 and N68. He does not expect the price to drop below those numbers. You pointed out the problem with TA. It's always correct in hindsight. On another note, why is the market dropping like a rock? |
@ All, You need to read a new proshare article on the precipitous drop of Ashaka Cement. Some people might have inside info on this stock and may be dumping it en masse. http://www.proshareng.com/myproshare/portal_articles.php?id=1132 |
