Did someone just call Robbie Williams a Rock Artist? undecided

Let me entertain you is def a rock song. But he def does a lot more pop than rock
Music/Radio / Re: For Lovers Of Rock Music Only! by easimoni(m): 2:28pm On Apr 19, 2010
U2;  any day, all day.

Matchbox 20;  wish they never broke up "Mad Season" and "More than you think you are" don't have any album fillers

Jason Mraz;  more like soft rock but the dude is soooo gifted. "The Remedy" is one of my best songs of all time. He and M.I. should get together. tongue

Nickelback;  maybe the next U2?

Nirvana; not a huge fan but when "Smells like teen spirit" gets played in black clubs, nuff respect. That's the song I play when I'm in the gym and my body is screaming to stop and I need motivation.

Robbie Williams; occasional genius

Oasis; too bad common sense and genius can't co-exist among the Gallaghers. "definitely maybe" was awesome!

Alanis Morissette; never go it. Look up "caterwauling" in the dictionary
Culture / Re: Why do Nigerian Women Bear Their Father's Name, After Marriage? by easimoni(m): 3:46pm On Nov 17, 2009
One of the best things to happen to world culture in recent decades is the increase in the ability of women to choose. It strikes me as a bit wierd, then, why a woman would choose to bear the name of a man (her father), when she had no choice in that matter, over the name of a man (her husband) when she chose him above ALL others. When my wife brought it up, I absolutely nixed it. I think it speaks of a need to hang on to an identity instead of moving forward as one. If you are in, be all in. It may be symbolic but it is an important symbol. Our parents got marriage (mostly right). We seem to be trying our hardest to screw things up.
Music/Radio / Re: M.i Vs Naeto C by easimoni(m): 9:30pm On Jul 23, 2009
MI has got the magic static
He's got the chrome automatic, he's so systematic
His flow is so melodic, neurotic , chronic,
So supersonic and bionic,
and you can get on it,
He flows in eubonic, english, broken
he is lyrically smokin'
He is Nigeria's hip-hop token.
Naeto C fans have got to be joking!

Politics / Re: Homosexuals Storm National Assembly by easimoni(m): 10:13am On Mar 18, 2009
The beauty of a democracy: those in favor should vote for. Those against should say so. Let the majority carry the day. We should all have a say in what society we live in. We (at least a majority) in naija choose to exclude homosexuality for whatever reason - homophobia or religion. That our society is flawed in other areas (divorce, fornication and adultery is rampant in the society AND the church) doesn't mean we should abdicate our rights/desire for a more wholesome (insert your definition) society. We will always argue about where to draw the line - the moment we accept gays as the norm, brother and sister show up, promise not to have kids and then ask you who they are hurting - I vote a man should wait for and stick to only his wife.

Is there a specific law against this or the market is just not developed enough to handle this kinds of transactions.

BOTH! The NSE/SEC forbid it because we can't yet handle it. There are plans to intoduce options in the "near" future.

Anyone knows any stockbroker in nigeria that Short sell shares (that is lend shares for a short position) ?

It's not legal in Nigeria to short a stock. No options, no puts/calls, just straight buy and sell with cash money!

Iwerebor:

Kevin Mitnik was a celebrated computer hacker. He was something of a marvel. He realized something:He didn't bother beating the machine. He exploited the weak link in the chain, man.

The market has got psychology that needs to be understood.

Fo2 once said that the market is riddled with codes. Absolutely true.
Each days pricelist speaks volumes.
Two things happen basically when shares are exchanged:
buying and selling.
Each action is a force that causes price MOVEMENT.

Remember Newton's law of motion? Objects will remain at rest or continue to move except a force is applied to interrupt them.
Results, rumors, news, profit taking, government policy etcr will only CAUSE either of this: BUYING or SELLING. These two actions are the true market forces.

Don't trade if your knowledge of economics excludes the law of demand and supply.

If the market is so coded, how come no one was smart enough to predict the current bear run. Look at my post history and you'll see I mentioned it about a month ago but even then it was just a guess. I'd guessed before and was wrong. Lot's of people on this forum and elsewhere have been dead wrong on CICO predictions - how may banking results have failed to move the prices as anticipated? We then adjust our investment horizons so how is that any different from fundamental analysis which preaches long-term investments.

My point is yes forces move the market but none of us can see the forces coming. Did you know FGN was pulling funds from the banks at the same time margin trading was being scrutinized? Do you know exactly when the funds are coming back? No one can predict the exact direction of the market over a one month period. Bioye, go and get a long-term loan. Anyway, na ya money sha!

Stock prices don't go up and down by chance so I don't see how you can equate it to gambling.

Actually, over a 2-month period (as stated by the guy with the N5M), prices do go up and down by chance. Stock markets are for long-term investments. Short-term gains are not repeatable or guaranteed.

I need the assistance of you guys in investing in the stock market. I have access to N5 million to invest in the stock market for 2 months. How much returns can I expect? Can any of you guys work with me as adviser, stockbroker, portfolio manager etc to maximise the returns? We share the premium at an agreed percentage.

Hope I'll be able to get help here. If you'll rather communicate confidentially, my email is bioyexx@yahoo.com. Thanks.

Bioye,
Seun has answered you well. Investing for 2 months is tantamount to gambling. You may have better odds playing black jack in Vegas.
In 2 months, you can expect zero or negative returns. All stock markets are built to make money in the long run and 2 months is way too short. For instance, the market has been down this month and people who borrowed to trade are "shitting bricks" (pardon my french.) Sorry bro, I have no advice for you; I want no part in elevating your BP. grin

@cj2008,
u've forgoten that the proposed right issue by UBA will affect the price somehow.

What rights issue? Because they increased authorized share capital, una don dey carry rumours of rights? It is unsubstantiated. The share capital increase might be to accomodate a bonus, a foriegn investor, a PO/rights or it might be nothing. Anyway Shig don talk am - "the stock is too sweet"

There is a PP and a "fishing" document is being circulated. IBTC is doing a book-building exercise right now. Dunno where you got contrary info but I'm pretty sure my gist is legit!

This is the fastest i've ever seen of any bank. Just 7 days after the end of a quarter and quarterly results are out. THIS WAS CLEARLY TIMED AS USUAL.
A clear cut case of a strategy that works. When a price is clearly oversold and good results are expected jump in for a BUY. But Oceanic clearly beat me to this one.I was expecting at least one month, not 7days.Too fast, too fast.

FO2, u haven't noticed the new improved reporting by the top banks?

Access, Zenith, Oceanic and UBA all released interim results within 9 days of Dec 31. No more long waits!
