sorry but I'm not a fan of Access either, especially not during a PO. I think you might be better off with GTbank, Wema or UBA.

Since the in thing is about stocks that have made it, will anyone in the house with all that its takes in marking out penny stocks with growth potential avail us all with some of these stocks to enable us cash in on them and make good returns. Your response will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Ok ok ok. since u've asked this question a dozen times on this (and other) threads, I'll attempt to answer. I generally avoid penny stocks but I like ABC transport and Beta Glass. A few people have recommended Mutual Benefit and other insurance stocks. Read the thread on insurance stocks for more info.
InvestmentRe: First Bank's 100 Billion Naira Share Offer by easimoni(m): 8:10pm On Jun 16, 2007
I don't like the PEs of cornerstone and Crusader. Based on the new shares they listed, Cornerstone has a current PE of ~100 and Crusader has a PE of ~50. If there is a correction, high PE stocks will be the first to go. A lot of downside on those stocks.
InvestmentRe: First Bank's 100 Billion Naira Share Offer by easimoni(m): 3:38pm On Jun 16, 2007
@ oxytech,

yes, you are quite right about 1st bank not inflating their shares prior to the PO. As a matter of fact, they had announced the PO weeks before the price was suspended. All the points u made are valid.

My advice remains the same: do what Frank suggests. Buy on the floor and wait till the suspension is lifted. Only borrow money if you have the liver.

Oh wait! That's not my real name. tongue Seriously, I use Lead Capital and I would not advise a friend to join me. Thinking of switching myself.

Never heard of F&C but Afri-invest at least seems to offer sound analysis.

@ windywendy,
clearly u need to post more often. wink A CR agency is clearly needed and could be big business. If the memo is a PDF or word file, would you mind posting it for us all to read and decide?

If I were u, I'd only do this if 1.65M is not such a big deal. It could take a while for a start-up to start yielding returns

I have heard people talking about money getting returned beacuse someone has bought too much shares in cases of oversubscription. How many units are people refering to as too much shares pleasehuh

I would like to know just in case of big elephant, so that i can use my siblings names for buying large units.
It all depends on the level of oversubscription. If they are not oversubscribed, they won't return anything. If they are (and I'm sure "big elephant" will be), the likely cut-off will be 50k units. If you are buying less than that, no reason to worry.

I got an email saying I won some lottery in the UK (yeah right!) a few days after I posted my email on this site. I only use that email for nairaland so I know this is the source. You have to be prepared to deal with such if you put yourself in the open. Don't use ur regular email (or name) when posting on this site!

@ oxytech,

you are right about short-term deals being harder to spot. It looks like we all have to settle down and be investors and not speculators.

I won't advise you to take a loan to invest. 5M is good enough to start a portfolio. If there is a market correction (and it's really not if but when), you'll really hurt. Take Frank's advice and buy 1st bank shares on the floor and watch the price climb as soon as the tech suspension is lifted (look at the other banks), but that will take 4 months from now(?)

If anything, stay away from Cornerstone. Wema might be good

The foreign investment is in form of equity, and infact, the foreign investor has long been the sole agent of Mbenefit. The 25% equity stake is being alloted to the core investor via existing warehoused shares, so there'll be no increase in the number of shares outstanding.

I've had the same UBA experience as ferugio. IT seems you'll always need a cheque or an ATM card. Don't forget you pay about N10 for a cheque. If you want to withdraw money without an ATM card or cheque, it should cost u money. Just not N250. These banks are rip-offs. angry

what do you guys think of ABCtransport. do u think its a gd buy. this is more directed to easimoni because i saw u post sumthin on them earlier
I like ABC and just ordered 300k units myself. I'm expecting an EPS of ~15k when the full year results are announced.

Based on the number of new contracts they've signed in the last year and the expansion plans in Nigeria and to Ghana, I think they could witness rapid earnings growth in the next few years.

hi easimoni
where do you get results of companies especially those that don't have a website, i have been trying to get info on CCNN for a while now especially at the early stage of march, though the price is currently flat i can't get anymore info on them. what do you think about a ccnn buy to sell just before obajana comes out?
cheers
My brokers send me a daily price update that inlcudes results released by NSE companies. It's about the only useful service they provide (Are u hearing, people of Lead Capitalhuh??). I store the results and refer to them when I analyze.

CCNN's last result was for Full yr 2006 and showed a loss of 35M. Unless u have info that the company is about to be turned around v soon, it's a must sell.

I am really suprised that nobody has commented on the rofo rofo fight going on in SPRING bank( Owena/Citizens/Guardian Express).

We have to be careful of all this fantastic figures being posted by this banks.

Lets be careful. To the Gurus - urgent advice required for the house
It speaks to the need  for investors to research the fundamentals of a company before investing in it. Since bank consolidations ended in Dec of 2005, SpringBank had not released a single quarterly statement, yet people traded their shares. With no basis to calculate EPS or PE, I often wondered what analysis led people to invest in such companies (Transcorp included). I guess it was pure speculation!

Anyway, God will judge them for duping people out of their hard-earned money. CBN ought to have caught this much sooner. I don't think this should dissuade you from investing in banks, just be very careful about the smaller ones, especially when you don't see results.

Stock Gurus,
Assuming an outlay of N10m to play the market.

N5m for long term, and N5m for short term buys.

1. What are the hot stocks to buy as at June 2007.
2. What is a winning strategy to achieve at least 100% profit by year end?
100% returns by YE? You're in the wrong business. No one can guarantee that unless they know something we don't. The other 2 threads on stocks are full of advice on what to buy. These are undervalued stocks with the potential for above-average returns not 100% return in 6 months guarantees.

Anyway, I like GTB & WAPCO for the long-term and I don't see any more short-term buys. Everyone is getting sharp.

K2:
I want to correct something real quick. There's nothing wrong in being in a long term investor once you identify a fundamentally sound stock. I see folks advocating saying no to PO and pulling in and out of stocks. If that works for you that's fine. It just means you are a trader and not an investor. While you are making this hefty returns in a short time, remember that you can also easily be burned and miss out on awesome returns long term especially when the market gets more sophisticated. To my long term folks, don't be dissuaded, that's how Warren Buffet got where he is. Where are all the day traders of the 90's on NYSE and NASDAQ and those that were mocking him? If you had invested 100k in FBN in 1994, you'd have over N10m today. Enough said.
You quote Warren Buffet but even he generally avoids POs (I've read his biography and follow all the news about him). I agree with you that my advice leans more toward trading than investing but what do you expect from a market where companies are raising money everday and continuously diluting shareholder value. Isn't the mantra of every successful company to maximize share holder returns instead of diluting them? I won't advice anyone to not buy 1st bank, I just think POs are a bad idea on average. There are other sound companies not out there doing POs. I don't believe in timing the market, but I believe in buying undervalued companies and selling them when they become overvalued. No Sentiments. Even Warren Buffet teaches that. And 1st Bank PO is not undervalued and they don't have "sustainable competitive advantage", something Buffet always looks for. At least I don't see it.

Aproko:
please aylala, esymoni, chartered accountants, pwc and all the other gurus whats your take on 1st bank po? do you think the market will be oversaturated and share prices will be stagnant or rise slowly? and why does gtbank scare me so much?
We devoted an entire thread to the 1st bank PO. All our opinions are there. Not my thing but def a good investment.

https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-45329.160.html

GTBank should not scare you. It's one of the most fundamentally sound banks on the NSE.

As per all the questions on insurance and penny stocks, I don't follow them. Not trying to be "uppity" but this is only a part-time job 4 me and I can only follow so many stocks. I'm sure someone else will soon respond.

@Easi, thanks

So which stock can i buy with the N5m to give me N7.5m by Christmas shocked and I am not ready to tie my money down on all this IPO hen.
A safe bet is WAPCO. The market seems to have taken their eye of this stock because they failed to declare a bonus and only gave a N1 dividend. It has solid fundamentals and could do 50% by yr-end. Also, the upcoming ban on importation of cement in December may play on market psychology and drive the price upwards. I own quite a few shares myself.

Another option is AP which is really a N100 share if they can put all the ownership problems behind them. I also like Oando but Frank and Wanaj0 have been arguing over this stock on the other thread wink so I stopped buying. Not going to argue with two accountants lipsrsealed Others ABC Transport, Longman, Beta GLass, and RT Briscoe. GTBank but the price is already taking off.

Whatever people say, am still holding to my transcorp. It is for long term invetment and am sure i wont regret it in 5 years time, (if The world hasnt ended).
Transcorp could be a great stock in 5 yrs but even the prospectus showed that they intend to make a loss in the first yr of operation. why not invest in another stock and buy back transcorp when the they start to turn the company around? Do you invest out of pride or to maximize returns? transcorp won't help you maximize returns.
