@ Temmie10,
The problem is both companies have issued additional shares during a PO. The PEs you are calculating may not yet include additional shares. Will check and get back to you.

I am sure the skye REIT will perform well.
I just don't see it outperforming the NSE.
Easimoni more or less summed it up.
It is not for those of us who believe that 250% profit is not a sin.

EASIMONI,

What the fund managers are saying is that, they won't only give out 80% as dividend but also promise high capital growth rate.
I'm really sure the fund would perform exceptional because skye bank is the king of real estate investment.
Okay, but what is the 25% p.a.? If PAT grows at 25% p.a., dividends will grow at 25% p.a. as well. The grammar used in the article is downright confusing. Abi am I dyslexic, or disleksic, or deelexeec?  huh

A quote from Proshare
"He said that the profit forecasts for the fund showed a higher than average returns of over 25 per cent per annum in the first three years. He said in spite of the 80 per cent profit payout rate of the fund, which was typical of all REIT worldwide, the fund would still deliver high capital growth rate."

http://www.proshareng.com/myproshare/portal_news.php?id=2656

Let me attempt to translate into English wink The PAT is expected to grow at ~25%p.a. in the 1st 3 yrs. (Not so good). THe REIT will pay 80% of it's profits as a dividend (v. v. good). Buy only if you are not an agressive investor. Ther price should be stable and dividends should be better than the 2% we are seeing in banks. Pass if you think like me cheesy

Just an opinion.

I have just joined the forum so this is my first message. I bought my UBA shares since last year on an average price of 13.60. Do you think i should still hold on to the stock? Does any one forcast any major increase in the share price? kindly advise.
Also what do u forcast the price of access bank rising to?
UBA's additional shares from the PO will be listed any day now. That may be why people have not responded +ively to the impressive results just released. Don't see a major increase again this year, esp. since the FY may not be released till Dec. I think it's peaked and is now only a long-term play.

Thing is, if you sell, what would you buy? huh That's my current dilemma.

does the "Alexa" ranking consider the number of internet users in a country. Naija might have a lot of people but we have relatively few internet users.

Anyways, why don't you try advertising? Get the Nairaland brand on TV and in the papers. Stop the crackdown on HYIPs

I noticed their share price is currently lower compared to this time last year!.
Your name still makes me laugh cheesy

You are comparing the price to beofre they did the 1-for-1 "bonus" from last yr. Adjusted to last year, today's real price is ~N100. Can't help you with the financials, contact your broker (if they are any good).

Easimoni,

why do you think people would be selling before the bonus or dividend day, knowing Nigerians we love anything BONUS OR FREE,

Maybe it's another factor affecting the present price of FIRSTBANK, and why did you say you'd be selling now if you had it in yr portfoiliohuh??
I'd be selling because I don't wait for bonuses (I have a colleague still waiting for his conoil bonus from ~2yrs ago). Must be a sell-off by people who think it's peaked or don't want the bonus (some peeps have figured out bonus is not always in the stocks best interest)

Easimoni: Do you think there's any possibility that this GDR thing will turn out positive in the near future? I've got a small amount (700k) tied up in, unlike you big boys. I really don't know how to approach this GDR element.

Any help welcome.
It very well could. The (only?) upside is if they manage to convert the extra funds into earnings faster than anticipated (in the prospectus). Otherwise, it's going to be a loooong wait to N40. There could also be another bull run to push Bank PEs well into the 30s but I doubt it.

BTW, 700k? You're not doing too bad! Who be big boy! tongue

Relative to what other banking stocks are doing I still think GTB is undervalued.
Frank, I'm not so sure. GTB's PE is now ~32 following the GDR. With a forecasted PAT growth rate ~45% (from GDR prospectus), you can caculate a forward PE of ~23 (and that's in ~Mar 08 when the FYE 2008 is released). Sure we know GTB is a solid bank but 45% PAT growth is not very inspiring. angry Might be time for me to sell the one I love!  cry

What is happening to firstbank, it has lost about 5naira in just two days even though it's not yet bonus or dividend day??

Any ideashuh??
Profit takers and people who don't want the bonus. I'd be selling myself if I owned any.  cry Historically, people start selling well before the closure date.

Temmie10:
I believe one of the reasons why bankin sector will not see any drastic correction for a while will be all these po's but it does prompt one to really beware what the future holds.
Actually, I 'd think that's why there should be a correction soon. Too many shares being sold. Less money to give back to your peeps.
Anyway, they are all growing at very good rates. Might be enough to offset the increase in outstanding shares. Who know sef?

@ Jungle700,

Wema bank's unaudited 1Q result was N1.6B PAT. That is what people have been projecting to N6.4B. May be right, may be wrong. The MD was on record (at church mind you, so he was sort of under oath wink) saying they had surpassed N5B for FYE 2007. I've also heard unsubstantiated gist of N5.4B for 9 months.

Anyway, expect between N5.5 and N7B (EPS of 55k - 70k) which would make it attractive at the current price.

Can't stand the special one because when you lose, you should take it like a man instead of saying your team was the better team (all the time) and whining about the players you didn't have.

Does anyone know if buying mutual funds from IBTC or ARM gives you a CSCS number? What if you move your existing shares/certificates to a stockbroker like Zenithsecurities? Do you get a CHN/CSCS number? thanks all
Buying mutual funds will not get you a CSCS number. You don't own any shares in a mutual fund, IBTC/ARM will hold them for you.

Dunno what a CHN number is, but you will get a CSCS number if you open an account with Zenith Sec. You'll need one to buy/sell on the secondary market.

@ Aporo, RTK claimed his rich dad held 7-11 type stores all over hawaii and construction companies among others. Hawaii is a very small place and with all the people who knew RTK as a kid, no one has found someone who remotely fits that profile.

@Debosky

Since you have held yourself out as the expert on this subject, have you ever considered view of a number of Kiyosaki's fans that the rich dad he was writing and talking about was actually his friend's dad and not his? That his dad was the poor dad.

Trust me, there are a number of possibilities here. How if the father he was referring to was a mentor and not his biological father? Its a possibility my friend!!

Go write your own book and quit this subject if you have this much interest!!
Debosky, allow me to answer for you. He did say in the book that his biological dad was the poor dad and his friend's dad (i forget the friend's name) was the rich dad. The rich dad was a mentor and not a real dad. The issue here (and you missed it) is that no one has been able to pinpoint the "rich dad" not even RTK himself when asked. This would make the book a work of fiction and not a memoir like RTK claims. Maybe it makes no difference to you, but integrity is very important to me.

Have you read the book? I doubt it. And we post because we have an interest not the other way round. huh

Has anyone noticed the continuous rise in the price of Afribank shares?
Could anyone tell us what is driving this recent impressive rise?
Afribank was on suspension for a very long time. The stock is playing catch-up. The YE results just came out today and showed a PAT = 5.1B. This dropped the PE to a respectable 26. the growth % was also good. Certainly a stock to watch.
