Worked on my system although the following was observed
1. For Undergraduate, You can't print admission letter and application form
2. Postgraduate admission not going through yet.

It will come up with time
Ok.
That's some progress. I guess before the end of the week, everything should return to normalcy.

I'm for post graduate.

I applied for Msc MIS in early June even though there is not yet an official application call. By the academic calendar, official call for applications will likely be in July/August

Thanks. I just wanted to be sure because in Nigeria, what is on paper might be different from reality.

Let me continue @Ejiod,moreso Excel cant handle large datasets,so tell coders to go into Python straightup (learning the basics of it including functions, class, inheritance) and then delve into pandas and co.

The place of machine learning cannot be overemphasised...ML has covered the predictive intelligence of Power BI (though the visually appealing dashboards of Power BI cannot be downplayed, but I prefer the drag and drop of Tableau )

Data Science requires more skills in creative thing and bringing insights out of data with a line of codes rather than with a boring formula which Excel provides.

Many thanks
I wouldn't advise anyone to go straight up into Python. They will likely struggle mid-way.

Excel introduces you to cells, rows, and columns - which is the foundation of data and databases. You learn data manipulation on a minor scale which makes learning easier. Excel is low on coding, which is good for a newbie. Excel can handle up to 999k rows of data, this is still enough for most entry-level jobs.

Excel, SQL, Power BI/Tableau, Python - In that order for me

Do you know what 33kv is?

Or for your understanding,

Do you know what 33,000 v is.

Note, what you use at home is 240 v.

At 33kv, you don't need to touch it, just a meter away from it, the electric field is enough to completely roast a human being.

Google is your friend.
I have worked in the power sector for 4 years + across 2 distribution companies.

Ask yourself how do electricity companies abroad carry out maintenance without the power going out. Or are you saying they don't carry out maintenance over there?

Speak of only what you know, Google and YouTube is your friend.

LeoDeKing:
You don't work on 33kv with any protective gears.

Just switch of power supply, that's all.

No protective gear can save anyone on a live high tension cable.
This is false. There are protective wears and equipment for every voltage level. There are even protective wears and equipment for working on live circuits.

Please, don't confuse yourself . What you need to pay now is 63k; if someone is asking you to pay exrra15k for now, the person need your money. I paid only 63k ,and the notification letter has been sent to me. Disregard 'them say'. On the approval letter, you pay only 63k and that is not beyond 90 days from Sept 8. If you go beyond 90 days, you would start the coren registration afresh.
15K is the practicing fee. You will have to pay it before you can collect your original certificate.
But like you said what you need to pay now is 63k.

With the recent increase in practicing fees, We that just registered in December, is our outstanding not supposed to be 5k?

Mine is showing 15k amount due on the portal. I'm kinda confused. Sent a mail, no response and all the contact numbers are not working.

Omo, this thing you said about the bottom of the pyramid just made me weak. I started my job search as a data analyst this eeek

I’m proficient in the aforementioned skills including MySQL. I’m however, in the process of learning Python by reading the ‘Automate the Boring Python’ book and looking to start with R since my course in the university teaches statistics and probability

Let’s assume I become a professional data scientist and want to pivot to the level of getting a foreign job, which platform do you recommend?
LinkedIn. Lots of job postings and you get to connect and interact with like-minds from around the world.

I think this is an issue with the Nigerian space: more supply than demand. If I'm being honest, I don't think we analyze data in Nigeria: we do more of data entry and wrangling. grin

Excel, SQL and PowerBI/Tableau should be enough to get you something abroad. cheesy

I can't remember, but someone here was able to get a job with basic knowledge of SQL and Power BI only, I checked among his threads and discovered he relocated recently to Canada. shocked
That's how easy it is in the abroad meanwhile the Nigerian space almost has zero space for entry level.

Below is an example of a data analyst job post at Schneider Electric.

Sirwallace:
Bro, you have a point. But in practice, Good knowledge of python and understanding of machine learning algorithm is what you need mostly in this space.

If you are doing deep learning, a lot of computational power is needed and trust me, that is not readilly available in most organizations in this country.

Only few are now moving their machine learning services to cloud environment. And even at that, many are still skeptical because of the payment plan.

And yeah, knowledge of statistics models is a must to Learn.

So If I were a newbie, I will focus on SQL, know python very well. Let Numpy and Pandas be your friend. Then understand the rudiment of traditional machine learning algorithms and how to optimize each algorithms with hyperparameter tuning and how to evaluate model performance.

Most industry problems you will see are mostly classification and regression problem and maybe a recommendation system (an unsupervised learning)

Deep learning can be an overkill in many cases. So focus on the above unless you have a GPU or TPU else, your system could crash.

See you guys at the top !!!!!!
The bottom of the pyramid is saturated right now. Go on LinkedIn and almost every knows how to use those tools (Excel, Power BI, Tableau), the competition is very very high.

Our target should be the global job market, not just the Nigerian job market where opportunities are few. Gather as many skills and tools as possible and be good at them.

But I get your point and it is valid. Start somewhere and grow from there with time. SQL, Statistics, Excel, PowerBI, and Python (Pandas, Numpy, Matplotlib) are enough to enter the industry.

To be sincere, data science and analysis is not that deep . A good foundation in statistics is the best cos one will be using more of excel, tableau and power bi and sql with A moderate knowledge of python .
What you listed above is the job of data analyst which is still included in the job of a data scientist. But data science goes beyond that, data science includes advanced statistics, predictive analytics, advanced object oriented programming, and using tools like hadoop, tensorflow and others. You will need knowledge of statistical modelling and algorithm because you will be dealing with very large data sets. You might also have to deal with machine learning, artificial intelligence, data mining etc

In summary, data analysis is a branch of data science.

Why not Mathematics & Statistics? Why Computer Science? What has Computer Science gat to do with Data Science?
Computer science will give you a very good foundation in Programming, Data structures and algorithm, and a host of other important concepts you will need in data science.

Data science is majorly programming, your knowledge of mathematics and statistics won't be useful if you cannot implement it in a programming language.
