andrew444: Leicester manager Rodgers: Iheanacho needs to enjoy football again
Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers wants to get Kelechi Iheanacho enjoying his football again.
The £25million signing has not found the net for almost six months.
"I think it's about improving every player, I've always seen that as my job," said Rodgers.
"It's been hard for Kel because he's come in and he's been a secondary striker at Manchester City. All of a sudden he makes a move for big money and I think everyone can see the potential.
"But he's come in to one of the top strikers in the league (Jamie Vardy) and I think it's very hard to displace that.
"But it's just a case of adapting to these new players.
"Actually my job is not to put them in a trap of pressure, and take that away from them. Enjoy your football, but ultimately your first job is to press and work hard. From that what can you add into your game?"
Read more at https://www.tribalfootball.com/articles/leicester-manager-rodgers-iheanacho-needs-to-enjoy-football-again-4272682#qMmxgXYxEoeJ5PpL.99 So Rodgers is saying Nacho left City where he was like 2nd - 3rd choice to move to Leicester to be second choice behind Vardy?? Nacho was signed to play ALONGSIDE Vardy and in certain cases replace him. Leicester played a 4-4-2 when he was signed. I'm sure people are looking at this comment as an excuse to justify Nacho's poor form but it doesn't add up. |

Icon79: Good assessment by Brendan Rogers; however, I really don't trust him one bit either. This man nearly destroyed Victor Moses' career. Anyway, I would like for him to prove me wrong this time sha.
O pari Vic Moses didn't help himself. Rodgers played this guy as a 10 and personally requested for him. It just didn't work out for him. Simple. |

wayodude: are you seriously using fifa rankings as to argue a point on a teams capability?
are you saying we were favourites ahead of Ivory Coast in the 2006 AFCON?
are you telling me we had a midfield in 2008 that could compete with Ghana (Appiah, Essien and Muntari) or even Mali (Diarra, Keita and Sissoko) when we had Etuhu, Olofinjana and Mikel?
okay o....i no talk again Our 06 squad was legit top 3 at AFCON. The difference between us and Ivory Coast that day was Drogba. We weren't outclassed or anything. Our 08 squad had an average midfield true but we more than made up for it upfront. We were also good at defence. Vogts was like Rohr that kept stacking CM/DMs. In terms of creativity - who would've made a difference from this team at 08?? Iwobi? |

Man this thread is still alive?? Anyways good win!! I'm still not sold on Emery but his record against big teams is very impressive. 4 points from Spuds 4 points from Manure 3 points from Chelshit 1 point from Loserpool 0 points from City. We could've easily won the game against the rent boys and spuds. Let's see what he does next season. |

Clementoke: Yeah, that was under Austin Eguavoen. We were 9th because we played no matches for many months during that period. The next time we took our 9th position to the pitch, Ghana disgrace us 4-1for the 1st time in 15years. Junior Agogo(of all players), Frimpong and co dealt with our eagles that day. Will never forget that match. So sad. They even beat us with 10 men in 2008 AFCON and Agogo scored again
I'll rather remain in these "bad new days" than those "good old days" Fact is we had better players in those good old days than the "bad new days". We have a good young crop of players coming up but this current SE team doesn't stack up to the teams of 06-09. |

wayodude: True. Our mid 90s team was world class.
Our mid 2000s team that missed the 2006 world cup and player the 2008 AFCON was much worse than this current one. That's not true. We were ranked 9th on the Fifa ranking sometime around 06-09. We were in the top 20 before 08 Afcon. Berti Vogts was just a clown. Our 06 team was even better. We still had JJ, better defenders and strikers. We had the luxury of choosing from Ike Uche, Osaze, Yakubu and Martins. Compare that to our current striking options. |

wayodude: Has Gbamin been better than Omeruo or Ekong this season? Is he more experienced than Omeruo and Ekong? How many Caps does he have?
If Boga were eligible for Nigeria he will be in competition with Iwobi. I know who i will pick.
Sangare is of course no match of Ndidi, happy you know that. But he is also not as good as Etebo. He is on the same level as Mikel Agu and Esiti. Prove me wrong if I am. Sangare is better than Etebo. There's a reason why Etebo is at stoke. Look at Sangare's stats and compare it to Etebo. As for Esiti and Mikel Agu - I won't even bother getting into it. Gbamin has played mostly in midfield this season so I won't compare him to our CB. He has been just as good as Ekong this season. |

icon4ss: That tells us that big names alone don't play football. Going into the 2006 AFCON Nigeria had the best assemblage of quality players: Okocha, Kanu, Yakubu, Martins, Osaze, Utaka, Nsofor, Yobo, Odiah, Young Mikel and Taiwo. Yet we only came back with bronze medal.
Drogba's generation of Elephants couldn't win the AFCON but a less talented squad won it in 2015 for them. The Nigerian squad that won the AFCON in 2013 was not the best on paper going into that AFCON. Zambia and Cameroon were never tipped as favorites when they won the AFCON in 2012 and 2017 respectively.
If you have a rich assemblage of players fantastic but the team still needs to work very hard to achieve results.
A merely descent team that is well coached and well managed can win the AFCON. Ivory Coast had a stronger squad than naija in AFCON 2006. They were the favorites to win that game |

wayodude: As far as playing personnel is concerned no team in Africa has greater strength in depth than Nigeria. The ability to harness this advantage to devastating effect is perhaps where a problem may arise. Especially if Rohr's last squad announcement is used a basis of predicting what's to come in the near future.
The Ivorian golden generation of the late 2000s had the same problem. How a team comprising Drogba, Yaya, Kalou, Kolo, Zokora, Tiote (RIP), Gervino, Eboue, Doumbia, Bony, Romaric, Tiene, etc etc big big names kept under achieving still remains a mystery. Ivory Coast have bench/youth players that would walk into our first 11 |

TheGoodJoe: We will see how it goes. I agree it will be too risky to make such a drastic change in such a short time. Maybe it will come in steps but still the spotlight will be on Ndidi on how he transforms with the system.
My fear is that Rodgers might see him more like a ball playing defender than a midfield pivot and convert him. That's what is most likely going to happen. Rodgers doesn't really like playing with destroyers. Ndidi could be used as a box to box destroyer winning balls high up the pitch(which is what Puel was trying to do) but he's just not that good on the ball. Needs to improve his passing. He strikes the ball well but that's not enough. |

Danielnino00: I agree with that 100% .. he got us Coutinho..
But identifying talented players is one thing ..Grooming them is another..
Aside Coutinho, what happened to the numerous talented players he signed? Well Sturridge was a hit till the injuries kicked in. Lallana has been hot and cold. Same with Loren Clyne started well but off the field issues has ruined him He also signed Joe Gomez, Can, Miller and Firmino. I mean let's not forget he didn't have the backing Klopp has in terms of transfers (Klopp is obviously a better coach I know). Dude didn't want to sign Balotelli and Benteke sha. Anyway truth is Nacho will have to improve considerably to be first choice in his team. |

I'm still laughing at this your "Brendan Rodgers is a genius" statement sha.. E too funny whalai!/
You have no idea the type of talent Rodgers had at his disposal at Liverpool and the many players he sighed but couldn't get the best out of.. A good example is Lazar Markovic! One thing I'll give Rodgers though is he has a very good eye for talent. Him, Harry Redknapp and Big Sam are the top English guys when it comes to identifying talent. |
