fergie001:Na wa o! Na wahala be dis o...you mean UI is not befitting for a PhD program? What are your observations please share them. You might just be saving someone his hard earned money or preparing them for what is ahead! |
lastmessenger:Can you imagine! And I was contemplating a PhD there...UNIZIK! @lastmessenger can you shed more light on the problems in your department at UNIZIK? |
please, can past PhD Economics candidates in any Nigerian university provide me with an evaluation of how a PhD in Economics in his/her university fared! I would like to make a choice of the federal universities in the country but I need to make an informed choice. |
In the light of the above i would like to do my PhD in a university that is relatively worth the struggle...so please people, submit your thoughts and opinions concerning postgraduate education in your respective schools. |
Dear Post Graduates, I would love us to have a platform for sharing our experiences in Nigerian universities and this would, among other purposes, enable prospective postgraduates get acquainted with the happenings in our Universities, provide a platform for evaluating postgraduate education in our universities and expose the failures or successes of Nigerian universities at the postgraduate level. By the grace and mercies of God, I have experienced postgraduate education in the Economics department of both the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and the University of Benin (UNIBEN) and I must say the experience leaves me with a terrible sour taste. At UNILAG in 2011, I observed the repetition of 200level and 300level courses at the Masters level. Imagine a Masters student being taught such fundamental concepts as average revenue (AR), marginal revenue (MR) and total revenue (TR), elasticity of demand, elasticity of supply, constrained optimization (with the Lagrangian) etc all covered in 100 and 200 levels. I noticed how in macroeconomic theory, they avoided such topics as dynamic macroeconomics (covering DGSE modeling, overlapping generations modeling, representative agent modeling etc). I also noticed how some books were a no go area. Books like David Romer, Advanced Macroeconomics and Hal Varian, Advanced Microeconomics were well beyond the mental capacities of our Dr.s and Associate Prof.s and they were systematically avoided. I left UNILAG to UNIBEN in 2014 believing in the age old reputation they purport to have but I was grossly disppointed. First, they taught History of Economic Thought at the Masters level. I wondered why we had to do it at the undergraduate level and repeat it again at the Masters level. As if that was not enough, I could see that the Prof.s there attempted to put up some level of mathematical sophistication in their lectures but their display was bland and vague as many a time we caught lecturers dictating textbooks verbatim to the class. The most alarming part is the act of these lecturers turning assignments to business ventures. A good instance is the Applied Econometrics lecturer, he taught the course haphazardly such that students were left without a clue of what he was teaching. Soon enough the renown and respected econometrician descended so low as to require a payment of 10,000 for him to conduct econometric analysis for those who cannot do it by themselves. Ofcourse, he stated that the payment was not compulsory, but those who didnt pay the said fee were awarded F irrespective of their academic prowess in econometrics. Other lecturers followed suit. The lecturers of Health Economics, Monetary Economics and a host of others followed suit with the exception of a few. More devastating is the fact that supervisors of MSc projects collected fees from their candidates in exchange for assisting them in their analysis. These sharp practices are common place at the Economics department, UNIBEN. It is saddening that despite the huge fees they charge [#150,000 (1st session) + #425000 (3rd semester)] they still provide very poor academic services and condone sharp practices. No wonder we see graduates with BScs and MScs in Economics bereft of problem solving ideas...Please share your experiences and if you feel my observation is flawed please let us know with your observations. |
chiefolododo:I will not blame the members for their actions...People become what they hear and do. If they had been hearing messages on love, sharing, caring and sacrifice and they were led to practice these by the Pastor (who is supposed to be a shepherd of the church) they would not have done what they did! It is a pity that this is happening. |
Please i need some information from those who applied for the PhD in Economics program...Does UNILORIN Economics, require an MSc with a thesis component or an MSc with a project component! |

kidman96:Please note, police men have made many women widows and many children orphans and when this happens people criticize them...Nevertheless when a good policeman is fallen in the line of duty we commiserate with his family... |
ezybaba:Hi, @ezybaba, i can see that you applied for a program in the statistics department. Please i would like to know the fees for the their postgraduate diploma in statistics, if with a BSc in Econmomics i am eligible and how easy it is easy to get admission to do a PGD in Statistics (Fulltime)...I hope to hear from you! Many thanks. |
Are the youths themselves absolved of blame? Are the youths not as corrupt as the politicians in power? Are youths not the ones behind the recent and ongoing wave of banking fraud? Are youths not the ones employed by politicians to rig elections? Are youths not the ones making life difficult for those who want to have their own homes? Are youths not the ones ready to vandalize public equipment all in the name of protesting? Youths account for nothing less than 60% of the total Nigerian population, youths can end the crisis in Nigeria but will; greed, inordinate sexual desires, selfish interest, double standards, nepotism, laziness, ethnocentrism, blind religious practice and herding behavior ever let the youth wake up to their responsibility! We need to stop pointing fingers at the old, failed and corrupt politicians in our country and deal with our shortcomings as youths...it is then and only then that we can wrest Nigeria from the forces of destruction... |
When corruption cheats us we call for justice but when corruption feeds us we call for celebration...Many on this forum complaining about the secret recruitment would have done worse if they were in position of power... |
drfk001:I doubt you are even a Christian that even knows the spiritual and scriptural significance of tithing...like the herd that attends your church you pay tithes because like a herd you toe the line ahead irrespective of where the line leads...Your few words stink of anger, hate and defiance of the truth... |
drfk001:Wow, what a thinking...Look at this plausible and possible scenario. Imagine an ISIS terrorist gets into the country and pretends to be a Christian, attends pastoral school (afterall thieves that steal from the offering box also attended pastoral school), and heads the branch of a denomination. Now according to you, you will pay your tithes with no regard for what your tithes are being used for but now you risk paying your tithe to an ISIS terrorist who will use the finance from yours and other spiritually blind followers' tithes and offering and use it to build a network of bombs carefully planted in secret locations in several denominations across the state...In the end your tithe would have contributed to the loss of the lives of hundreds of thousands of people and your tithes definitely do not go to God! So be wise. Give as you are led by the Holy Ghost! It is then and only then that your giving will go to God as a living sacrifice acceptable to the LORD as your reasonable service. |
CollinsWeGlobe:You pay tithes as led by the HolyGhost, you pay offering as led by the HolyGhost and you give to the needy as led by the HolyGhost...what is the difference? They are all the same...What matters is that you are led by the HolyGhost. satan gives, angels give, ritualists give, kleptomanic politicians give, corrupt lectures give, fake pastors give, false prophets give, righteous men give...both good and evil people and entities give but what makes the difference is what inspires the giving! If you give to your gift to an indian hemp smoker unknowingly you have just bought him another wrap of marijuana and by so doing adding to his destruction but if you give that gift to a living church your tiny contribution may go a long way in sustaining people who have made it a lifelong dedication to pray for not just one but many people who smoke indian hemp...Also if you give your gift to a Laodicean church (there are many around) you have just succeeded in adding to the wealth of materialist and Hell-bound impostors that label themselves pastors but if you give your gift to your hungry neighbor as inspired by the Holy Ghost scriptures say you have just fed Christ himself... So you see, whether you give freely, or offer your gifts to the church what matters is that what you are giving is finally used towards bringing hope to the hopeless, strength to the weak, peace to the troubled and good news to the depressed...and the only way you can ensure that you give in this manner is if your giving is inspired by the Holy Ghost, the Spirit of Love! So are you filled with the Holy Ghost? |

wirinet:My brother will you blame all these thieves stealing our money...you will not blame them. Rather we should blame the ethnocentric, religious and bigoted ordinary Nigerians who have gained nothing from ethnicity, religion or bigotry but yet allow these pull a blindfold over their eyes and all of a sudden they think they have an opinion that rivals those who can see with their eyes wide open...It is these ordinary Nigerians that make these thieves feel like super stars...Imagine people talking of rule of law, in a country where one man carted with billions of dollars that was meant for the procurement of weapons! Imagine people talking of rule of law, in a country where scores of people are slipping below the poverty line simply because the educational, economic and social foundations of the country are falling apart all thanks to the corruption of a few! My brother as i type i am so angry that i feel like executing some people...and i am even angrier that Nigerians who have a brain in their heads think the DSS should have done otherwise! If a sick law that allows the rich get away with crimes of national consequences and punishes severely the poor involved in petty misdemeanor must be breached to make the rich as well as the poor face the scales and the sword of the justice equally then such a law must and will be breached! |
dotedote:Amen and amen...May this rubbish due process that some depraved kleptomaniacs and their cronies are singing be punished. If this is the type of due process Lee Kuan Yew followed in Singapore will Singapore be what it is today? If this was the due process Jerry Rawlings followed in Ghana will Ghana be the toast of investors today...Rubbish! This is stupid due process some fools in this country have been singing for over a decade and look at where we are today...May this due process and rule of law that is only compatible with corruption, avarice, embezzlement, perversion of justice and utter disregard for humanity be cursed! |
shuggah:My brother... i said if..., No vex ehn! I did not intend to insult anyone but i wanted to show the severity of the flaw hidden in the belief that what the FG did, by picking up those judges, was wrong! If the law is faulty enough to make a poor man suffer untold hardship in the hands of the police and courts then it must also be faulty enough to make the rich and mighty pay dearly for their misdeeds... |
saintdennis:My apologies to those that quoted me and i could not reply! I was actually fronting for my fiance and trying to get info on her behalf...She has done the test and she was successful! |
ebenholer:You can go an arrest the DSS head now and while you are at it, arrest the DSS hands and legs...an experienced lawyer is telling what truth? Truth as i know it, has the power to set people free but where has this Afe Babalola been when this country was raped, pillaged and plundered for years? How many truths has he told against the established order? How much persecutions has he got on account of telling the truth? How has his truth liberated the poor, the weak and the downtrodden? Truthful lies...lies laced with a lot of truth! All the enemies of this country, that have vowed not to cease from doing the evil that brought this country to its knees will face the wrath of God...una neva see anything... |
shuggah:Na your Olodo big pass...If a sitting judge rapes your mother right in front of your family and you have some evidence to that effect you will advocate rule of law abi or what is that nonsense you guys call it again 'due process'...Nonsense! |
Jirate:What due process? May due process be damned forever and ever! If an ordinary man is involved in a crime, these fools ranting due process will not rake up all the laws in the constitution and everywhere (including the spirit realm) and clamor for rule of law rather they will promptly throw him in a cell and from a cell to a prison awaiting trial...These monumental idiots claiming rule of law do not see how weak and inconsequential the law is in ensuring that people who are not yet found guilty do not spend a life time awaiting trial in prison for crying out loud... May rule of law be damned! These legal bastards and retards will exploit every lapse in the stupid provisions of the so called constitution, criminal code and all other legal nonsense to make sure that the law remains a sceptre in the hands of the rich and a burden on the heads of the poor... May the rule of law be damned Buhari has brought the same heat the poor feels and complains about in the hands of the policy, lawyers and judges; on the high and the mighty...now is the time for them to feel the pains of the poor and savor the anguish of the weak... Una neva see anything...by the grace of God another leader more brutal than Buhari will take over power after him and all those who think being rich is a license to trample on the poor will feel the wrath of a benevolent God! |
Thank you all for your responses, I have got prospective assistants already from here...Nevertheless if there is the need to return here to seek a replacement I will return. Thank you once again for your responses. |
davepepple:If you know what you have to offer and what it costs then you will simply state the price...I will not be the one to value what you have to offer for sale! |
I got a reply from the Access bank HR team member and it reads that: We are pleased to inform you that you have been shortlisted for an > assessment. The full day assessment will take place as follows: > Date: 13th October, 2016 > Time: 1:00am - 2:00pm > Venue: Access Bank Training school 92 Alen Aveune Ikeja, Lagos > Things to bring along: > > * A valid original of passport / driver's license / national or state ID > card / permanent voter's card / national youth service ID. > * Photocopy of your change of name where applicable > * Photocopy of your WAEC and university certificate (s) > * Photocopy of your Birth Certificate > * 1 recent passport photograph. > > We look forward to seeing you. > Thank you. Please is the time specified correct or is it an error... Did anyone else receive a notification like this with the time specified the way it is above!? |
Na naija we dey o! Just a thought oh! 100,000 people applied for a trainee program that will only accommodate 30 people, so they send 30 people their notifications via mail, and the remaining 99,997 were sent SMS to write a test they will never be able to write simply because their quorum is 30 and since they have met quorum they shut down the website...and someone smiles to the bank with 99,997 x N3 assuming that it costs N3 to send the SMS...Na change we dey o but some people will stop at nothing to change the change...Nevertheless this is just a thought o, I am not making any allegations o and it might just be that their connection was down for some other reason! |
Any help!? |
As for me signing in was a problem, I got a their notification that stated that the username was my email address but the password they suggested was not granting me access...Please for those who were successful in signing in what was the password you used? |
