Human rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN Femi Falana, has claimed that in a 2020 report, the former Auditor General of the Federation disclosed that $4 billion from Nigerian reserves is missing and that $3.5 billion from an IMF loan was stolen.


He added that Mr. Cardoso, the governor of the central bank, had admitted that $2.4 billion of the bank’s purported $7 billion in debt was unjustified.

The Former AGF revealed that $4Bn yanked off from Nigerian reserves cannot be located. And he also revealed that $3.5 billion loan taken from the IMF was stolen by yet-to-be-identified individuals. I’m talking of 7.5 billion dollars.

The governor of the Central bank, Mr Cardoso has also disclosed that out of the 7 billion dollars alleged indebtedness of the bank, 2.4 billion dollars cannot be justified. I’m also surprised that my colleagues are not interested in the judgment of the Supreme Court on the economy.

The Supreme Court ruled and ordered the government of Nigeria to collect outstanding royalties from the oil majors. But the government has not enforced that judgment of collecting 62 billion dollars from six international oil companies. I hope the government will have the courage and political will to collect those funds.

Most of Sub-Saharan Africa's population is poor because of the crabs-in-a-bucket and every-man-for-himself syndrome. Africans cannot work together to generate a solution that will end poverty. If you create a committee to pool funds from donors, philanthropists, faith-based institutions etc to provide solutions to the poverty problem in Africa you will find some Africans within that committee who will be hell-bent on stealing at least 80% of the money and doing absolutely nothing. I once shared an idea for pooling resources to start a business that could generate income for the participants. I quickly got responses from interested parties but I noticed that most of them wanted a few people to do the work while they reap the rewards. The initiative died not long after.

1300 American adults is a bad sample to generalize to the whole world. American adults, Christian or Atheists, have a liberal cultural background that is not the norm in other climes. Your conclusions based on this study can at best only be relevant for the American people. Again did the 1300 sample stratify at least by socio-economic characteristics of wealth and social capital, race, nationality, migrant status, and gender? Also, can you seriously claim that 1300 sample units are representative of a country of over 300 million people? I would like to see the external and internal validity of the sample used. Some researchers these days are being outed for fudging data to achieve crazy effect sizes that go on to become the basis of outlandish hypotheses (See one example here). So I still will not take your conclusion seriously until I see the paper, how the sample was drawn and how it arrived at its conclusions (which is not included in LiveScience website you just shared).

Last time I checked Stalin was an Atheist and he killed millions, Mao Tse Tung was an Atheist and he killed millions. Lenin was an Atheist and he killed millions. Atheists have no moral compass. Morality to an Atheist is subjective. If you accept that we evolved from inanimate matter then there is no purpose to existence. No purpose means there is no objective way of determining wrong doing. Hedonistic functionality replaces objective morality for an atheist. If killing babies play a functional role in society, atheists will support it. Right now the Nigerian economy is not fit for small businesses. As the middle class shrinks and more and more people are plunged below the poverty line we can expect aggregate demand driven by the middle class to fall. Those sustaining aggregate demand are the upper class and their consumption basket is not the same as those of the middle class. If you must do business you must target goods and services that in the consumption basket of the rich and the corrupt. High end real estate is one good area. As bad as the economy is there are people buying houses worth 300 million naira, 500 million naira, 10 million dollars etc. Real estate seems to be the safest investment around and there is a second type of investment that will boom this time around due to high food prices, insecurity in food basket states, and the high cost of transportation. Just thinking about these three challenges I just mentioned is enough to spark this business idea in someone's head but I am keeping this to myself cos I wan enter that area fast.
