Great insight Kobo. I must confess that I am quite fortunate. I have mostly been advantaged in most cases. I "BLASTED" my way through school, never having to depend on anyone and maintaining very strict levels of discipline. I got all my scholarships and jobs by merit and have always been successful within and outside Nigeria. I agree it is difficult but as they say, tough times never last but tough people do. I was once told I can never get my current job without "knowing" someone on the inside. I proved it to be very wrong. I want whoever is reading this to know "It Is Possible". I've been there and done that plus, I'm just getting started!

Yes you can! I can boast of being as successful as I am today without indulging in any form of "wuruwuru". I can attribute my success in life to the following:
1. God's grace
2. Natural talent
3. Hardwork

You don't have to be dishonest to be successful in Nigeria but you do have to do a lot of hardwork (just like anywhere else).

If this happens, the Americans will turn Nigeria to a place better than America while the Nigerians will turn America to a place worse than Nigeria!

NNPC controls about 55% of SPDC. Shell is not exactly the one making all the decisions here. Those companies buying the OMLs belong to people like Mike Adenuga, some former Shell and NNPC staff, some politicians and surprise, surprise; some ex-militants like Mr. T! Shell is only protecting its investment and "playing along" with those running the show. Shine your eyes!

Actually, Only the OECD / developed countries have strong obligation to cut emissions for now. The developing countries have a net positive carbon allowance. This means that we have the right to release more emissions. China, India and other developing economies also have the right. Europe has unknowingly transferred a lot of wealth to China, Africa etc via the carbon market. What happens is that European companies go to the developing countries to buy carbon credit or execute green projects. With that, they can release more carbon at home. Now they are realizing the tough position they have placed themselves and are not happy China is gaining a lot from what they created. It's a whole new market but the summary is that we have not even started emitting the amount of CO2 that a developed, green, Nigeria should be emitting!

I would love to have a situation where governors will compete healthily in terms of executing development projects. Eg Fashola vs Chime competing for who develops his state faster or who is the first governor to achieve 100% power etc. Not who has more ministers in the cabinet or who is producing the senate president. Such healthy competition is good motivation for governors to perform.

China and USA (The world's largest economies) derive a huge amount of their power from coal. China still builds new coal plants to this day. They can be made to burn cleaner with new technology. Besides, Nigeria still has room for more carbon emissions even as we work to reduce gas flaring.

I hope the project will be executed smartly and swiftly. With what is happening in Enugu, Nigeria's industrial revolution may be just around the corner.

A while ago people were saying GEJ should appoint technocrats and proven professionals. Ekt-bear, let me try to explain a little. An FPSO is a floating, production, storage and off loading unit. It is a vessel (more like a ship) that has the capacity to produce oil from offshore fields, process it (in situ), store it (in its hull) and offload to tankers for onward transportation. It is the best technology available today for deepwater oil production. You may have heard of Chevron's Agbami or Total's Akpo.

What exactly is an "integration project"? Now an FPSO is designed and built in modules Ie smaller units which are assembled to make the whole. Each module serves a specific function e.g. Gas compression, pumps, loading, living quarters, etc. These parts are usually made in different countries. Integration involves the assembly of these different modules to form the whole unit. Just the way you assemble a car. Before now, this operation was done in mostly in South Korea. Until now, we do not have the capacity to do so. We usually have to manufacture the monster in South Korea and then sail down to Nigeria.

The size of an FPSO could be over 3 times that of a football field. We are talking about tons upon tons of steel (Imagine what this can do to Ajaokuta) and billions of dollars. The expertise required for the job competes with that requires in the military and aerospace industry. Such development also involves subsea development (I don't want to delve into that right now).

One FPSO project is capable of feeding thousands of people from the least educated to the most educated individual. Believe me, this is some serious deal and will provide a great amount of jobs, training and technology transfer if it is to be executed. The strategic positioning is also an advantage. It can serve countries like Angola and Ghana also. I hope this project is executed successfully.

BTW, since Enugu is rich in coal deposits, why not build coal fired power plants to generate power for the state's consumption. If a state like Enugu can achieve 100% power, it will be much easier to get committed investors and create jobs.
