shymexx: You know what, in my journey on this planet, I've learned that it's better to coexist with people than try to tell them the difference between good and bad, when it comes to values, morals, and culture. We're all different people and what works for you might not work for the next person.Smh still. Yea we have to be sensitive to cultures. I know all of this stuff. Cultural imperialism is wrong BUT pain is pain and it is universal and it transcends culture. For example, the issue of female circumcision, you can argue for it in so many way but when it becomes an issue of forcing young girls against their will and in the process, some of them die then I have a problem with it. If as a grown person after understanding the whole process, I choose to go ahead and do it, fine! But a six year old being forced to undergo that gruesome process? In an unhealthy environment? Come on! And facing the possibility of death ? And even worse will probably be married off in a few weeks after that? And you come and talk about cultural sensitivity. My guy, make I no talk too much. You don't seem to understand what these girls go through. Smh. |
shymexx: However, how are you going to get arrested even if it's illegal when the same people in-charge of arresting people for having sex with minors have failed to do their jobs for eons? How many pedos have been arrested and jailed in Nigeria? So because there is a lack of efficiency in the justice system, I should sit back and watch people amend the constitution to negatively affect females? I should let that become a law ![]() Do you know how heavy this is? Abeg no vex me o |
shymexx: She said the right thing, to be honest. No you did not!!!! More than disappointed. Smh |
Hunkuyee: My brother you are objecting child marriage but indirectly promoting child sex, make a sample female child in your area you will be shocked to know that majority of them have known men beyond your imagination. Early marriage is solution to unwanted pregnancy, abortion, spread of sex related diseases among our youth. Hundred percent in support of early marriage especially that my religion and tradition support that. You people should not decieve yourself with western cultures.Ask your self how many ladies graduate from the university and still virgin. Many of you here are shouting that you will not marry graduate but rather run to the village and get wife, why? Because you know majority of the so call big girls in the cities are corrupt and known men for long. What is your definition of early marriage? At what age? |
shymexx: Personally, I don't think marriage is the problem per se. I believe the problem is the Nigerian judiciary and police force's failure in ensuring that everyone has to be at the legal age (as declared in the Nigerian law/constitution)I would rather it was written in ink that it is illegal. After that, we can tackle the issue of the law being broken. You have no defense and no power if it is not written. If if is illegal, then I could get you arrested and prosecuted. |
Why are you guys taking panadol for other people headache?? Why is NL poisoning the mind of people, indirectly?? Abi its all part of traffic? People die everyday of hunger, theres corruption to the worst level, no electricity, very bad roads, health care is terrible.. This are things that affect the common man daily but we dont care to fight that, its something that does not concern you and have no effect on your lives that your killing yourselves over.
Is this a joke ? I mean are you serious ? It doesn't affect you Wait till you have a daughter then you will understand. Wait till you have a nation full of traumatized young girls/women and see what will happen. TFOHI'm still dazzled! No amount of economic development is more important. Security is key! Not just from armed robbers etc. I need to know that when my daughter or friends daughter or any persons young girl is walking down the street, she will be safe! We can't breed a nation full of young girls who are unlawfully forced into marriage. Would you have liked to become a bride at 12? Or 10? This matter affects us all. That you are no longer a child does not mean it's another persons Panadol. Every single Nigerian should be concerned about this. Young or old, male or female |
Very understandable. His life was taken away from him for 7years! Unlawfully too! What should he now go back to? But he has to be resilient |
Codedrock: I see nothing bad with a guy of 17 married to 16 its not badt if there is love..At 17 and 16? when you should be in school? Pls marriage is not like nursery school o. |
In all of this, it is very important for Nigerians to know the constitution. That is the only power we have to even change it. |
I honestly had to skip most of it. I just couldn't. I already had tears in my eyes from the first two paragraphs. Smh. I can't believe this is happening. ![]() |
big deal 007: Ugly pple always have each other's back. Smh thanks. |
*facepalm* the title itself just makes it seem so unreal. I know we get all these celebrity threads on the front page everyday but this one though?? *sigh* oh well... At least she fine for the picture sha |
Not sure what joy people derive in telling people to their faces that they are ugly and even add to it by describing their features. Na una born am? Born ur own pikin make we see. OP, be you jare and have confidence in who you are (which I know you do already). |
As much as i have issues with Mugabe, in this topic, he spoke THE GOSPEL TRUTH!
Exactly! Thats what I like about him. He says it like it is. He ain't afraid of nobody! |
Respect this man's guts to speak the truth and stand up to western powers. Cest comme ca... "Alors... Gardez votre êtas-unis et laissez-moi garder mon Zimbabwe" |
De gal might be sleeping aaround ooo. Ashawo wit tattoo. Pls I want 2 knw wedaa her toto was burnt
smh |
kulyie: With the response comming from men in this nairaland,I am now convinced without an iota of doubt that many men in nigeria are inherently violent regardless of ethnic group.since nairaland is a reflection of nigerians all over nigeria and in other parts of the world,I can boldly say that many nigerian men are very violent, look down on women and see women not more than sex objects they can use and do away with at will.therefore knowing this women should know who they open their vaginas to and get pregnant for but unfortunatly it seems that as nigeria is getting more anarchical, ladies are loosing their dignity, value and sensesyou've said nothing less than the truth!! It's really sad when I see how some talk about women. It makes me shiver. *sigh* kulyie: Am telling you. Its only when it affects them. Or their families they become serious.honestly its a very irritating behaviour.imagine laughing and poking fun at an 11 year old girl that was raped in this nl,but if its their mom or sis that was raped, they will come here and be ranting about how bad niheria isWe don't stop to think of how bad it is until it becomes personal. Same thing with our leaders. They do not feel our pain but wait until they walk in our shoes, then they'll understand how life is for the common man. |
kulyie: Cut the crap.everything is not a joking matter.nigerians are becoming more animalistic and crooked as days go byAgree! It's a really serious issue but as usual, many Nigerians like to turn everything into a joke... until it happens to them. k2039: Love is smart, you don't ignore signs like this. It's always costly.Exactly! |
Honestly, Im still baffled by the sort of responses I'm seeing here. How can anyone say she got what she deserves? like honestly? so what if she has a tattoo of her name? How does any of this exucse or justufy the guy setting her ablaze? Why do we keep deviating from the main issue at hand? You don't have to have a "Becky" tatt to be set ablaze by your lover and you don't have to be a former bouncer or whatever to set your girlfriend on fire. I don't even know what to say anymore. Im surprised and more than disappointed by the responses. smh. It can happen to anyone! We should be discussing the causes of things like this, condemning them, and giving advice to others out there but instead we gather here and blame the girl and even dare to insult her! No one deserves any form of domestic violence no matter who they are. NO ONE! Even if she was a prostitute, it still does not make it right! She did not deserve what she got and I really hope the man suffers the consequences for his actions. Btw, did we also skip the part that said she was pregnant?? He lit her up with a baby too!!!! Now that's not normal! and we still think she deserves her lying in a hospital bed with those burns?? And some advice to women, do not stay in abusive relationships no matter what. I know issues of the heart can be quite tricky and we might claim to "love" them but really, it's not worth it. If he is over protective and overindulges in alcohol and drugs, stay away. |
The former Zamfara State Governor and current Senator, Sani Yerima, whose marriage to a 13-year-old girl drew widespread outrage in 2009, literally pressed the Senate to reverse a vote that appeared to outlaw underage marriage, almost marring a crucial constitution amendment vote Tuesday. The Senate constitution review committee had recommended alteration of section 29 of the constitution that deals with the manner of renunciation of citizenship. The constitution states that full age means 18 years and above and the committee proposed a removal of part b of the clause which states that any woman that is married shall be deemed to be of full age. Senators overwhelmingly backed the recommendation that it be removed, leaving the prospect of final passage if accepted by the House of Representatives and state Houses of Assembly. However, Mr. Yerima questioned why the section dealing with age of a married woman was deleted, describing the move as un-Islamic. He demanded a revisit, a call that was turned down by Senate president, David Mark. Mr. Mark ruled that as a member of the constitution review committee, Mr. Yerima had every opportunity to have sought a review and was against the chamber’s rule in seeking an amendment while the votes were on. Mr. Yerima insisted that under Islamic tenet, a woman is of age once married and countering that order as already stated in the constitution would be discriminatory and in violation of another section of the constitution directing the National Assembly to steer away from Islamic marriage. “The constitution says the National Assembly shall legislate on marriage except those under Islamic rites,” said the former governor whose marriage to the teenager triggered months of controversy. “Islam says once a woman is married, she is of age.” Mr. Mark however conceded to a second vote after other proposed amendments had been concluded, saying he had to act due to the “sensitivity” of the matter as it concerns religion. Still, Mr. Yerima’s demand was again thrashed 60 to 35 at a repeat vote but the section could not be deleted as constitution amendments require two thirds of the entire members-73 for the Senate- for a proposal to pass. http://www.channelstv.com/home/2013/07/17/yerima-persuades-senate-to-support-underage-marriage-in-nigeria/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |
Are we going on about the girls beauty or the stupidity of the guy's actions? So she is not as beautiful to you doesn't mean she's not beautiful to the next person. That she dated a former bouncer doesn't mean he's allowed to act that way. That she has a tattoo that says "Becky" doesn't mean she's an ashewo as someone called her. For goodness sake, can we deal with the issue here and leave her physical appearance alone? |
shymexx: Miss Lagos should go home to her family, she ain't representing us right! You know it! ![]() |
gluv01: In earlier times people used charcoal to clean teeth. Charcoal, has a powerful crystal based chemical which results in teeth whitening. You can mix some charcoal with toothpaste to get rid of stains. Thus, making it one of the best home remedies for yellow teeth.Erm, have you tried any of the above before? Everyone making suggestions, biko una don try all these before? There are a hundred and one teeth whitening methods that do not work but then again, what works for Shina mgiht not work for Sule |
