(Why were there no reports of exceptionally high turnout, though? You'd figure that if 85% of all eligible voters come out to vote, it'd have been noticed or commented upon. There were no media reports of this exceptionally high turnout. . . in fact, the opposite occured. Anyway, that is another issue, we can discuss it on another thread, not this one.)
Absolutely no one, except you can get the "Owners of Nigeria" on your side

Owners of Nigeria = MOCs and their countries.
Hehe. This naija is a depressing country. Safest bet is not to get too emotionally attached to it, I guess  grin

Why are non-Yoruba (probably Igbo) like the OP so keen on declaring Tinubu the Yoruba leader? He is the Yoruba maiguard, not leader

This was quite an informative thread for me.

I wish the original version of democracy as originally formulated had not elicited much revolt amongst the Greeks.

Too late!
Hehe.

I don't think we will ever have a properly functioning democracy as long people don't care abuout voting and are willing to sell their votes be mobilized.

I assume that GEJ didn't mobilize to get 85% turnout in Bayelsa, though? That was ballot stuffing, likely? Otherwise someone would have noticed the heavy traffic on the ground.

I'm also now wondering if the PDP can ever be defeated at the presidential level. If it comes down to a game of buying votes, who can match their cash?

@eziachi: Those things aren't worth much (not high dollar, very profitable items), can be imported cheaply or produced locally.
Politics › Re: Buhari Rejects Results In 22 States And Fct by ektbear: 9:14am On Apr 19, 2011
A simple proposal. Release a more detailed breakdown of the votes nationally. Not only by state, but by LGA, ward, and polling site. Make it publicly available on the INEC website, along with voter registration for LGA, ward, and polling site.

Those who have nothing to hide should not be afraid of the truth being revealed.

^-- Thank you. One honest man, at least.

From your post, 38.25% voter turnout at your location. Abagworo saw similar turnout where he voted.

This is in line with what was reported in the SW and certain other places. . . a fairly reasonable turnout figure. Nothing obviously fake like 76% turnout.

Heh, Governor Amaechi complained about low voter turnout. . . and did something to "fix" this problem  grin

I condemn the violence in the north as well. Innocents should not die due to the selfish actions of a few riggers.

Politics › Re: How Do You Want Nigeria Sliced? by ektbear: 5:31am On Apr 19, 2011
You are in no position to tell anyone "grow up", acting like a pre-k student saying, "that's gay."

Vote for who you like. . . but don't be surprised or perplexed if people grow displeased at rigging.

There is always a price to pay for dishonesty.

In any case, gay or not, the point stands.

Who was taunting? We included you all. . . *smh*

BTW, if you know Goodluck Jonathan's area, you would definitely know he has Igbo in him. So he is close enough.
I don't have time to bump up threads from yesterday; you'll have to go look at them yourselves. Won't be more than 2 or 3 pages deep.

MaziUche0:
Well it seems like the SS love us now. And no one trust the Yoruba. Stop the backstabbing then people will actually trust you all.
*shrug* I could care less.
Politics › Re: How Do You Want Nigeria Sliced? by ektbear: 5:16am On Apr 19, 2011
In fact, I didn't actually see any posts by SS folk taunting. It was Igbos entirely. And you wonder why no one likes ya'll.

The Igbo youth. . .

If it was up to our parents, they would never allow us to trust the Yorubas. Maybe for good reasons though. undecided
The same Igbo who were rubbing the GEJ victory in our faces yesterday? Taunting over that win? When they weren't even the ones running for office huh

If that is an olive branch, I wonder what a sword looks like.

In America? Yes

In 'Odualand' hellz NO.

If they dont leave voluntarily and peacefully and jejely, we will ask OPC to make them leave, as a matter of fact, they will disappear forever and ever.
Do you want to get in trouble with the UN? Become an international pariah?  undecided There are certain rules that have to be followed.

Now, you can heavily tax whoever doesn't choose citizenship. But you must offer those who live there currently that choice.
I seriously do not understand this argument.
If Nigeria divides into three tomorrow (God forbid)  and you live in lagos, you just become an immigrant that's all. apply for visa and you can stay.
Nah, I think you'd have to offer everyone currently in Lagos. Or at least, force them to choose citizenship between the SW Republic and whatever other country they have a claim on. You cannot dispossess people of citizenship anyhow. . . I'm pretty sure it is illegal, will get you in trouble with the UN, etc.

But once they make that choice, you are free to then restrict citizenship to outsiders.

PS: Long time!

Yep cool
Ondo produces roughly 10% of Nigeria's oil. There are substantial oil and gas reserves off of Lagos, as well. Finally, there are 43 billion barrels worth of oil sands in the Lagos-Ogun-Ondo-Edo area. Similar to what is being exploited now in Canada (less profitable a product to sell than conventional oil, though.)

In the short term, there would be some economic loss. But longterm, substantial gain. . . even if looking at purely oil and gas. Not even considering the other sectors of the economy.

I most certainly I agree with you. As i said earlier we view igbos, ijaw, hausa/fulani the same. We are not partial, we are neutrals. We do not play partitian politics and most certainly we are not ethnic or religious bigots.
Just make sure non of you people whether hausa or ijaw take any part of yorubaland and then we would go in peace. Otherwise we would remain in this union and frustrate all of you tell you let us go with our land.
As you can see yorubas rarely invest in other places apart from the SW. I pray and wish your country with igbos and other groups in the SS the best of luck in this unity you have found.

^-- It is very rare to see such high turnout figures. I can either believe that this is one of those rare events, or instead think that it is fraudulent. For a variety of reasons (including that extra-high-turnout wasn't reported in the SE, no reports of the streets completely shut down with the traffic of 83%+ of all eligible voters in Imo State turning out), I'm strongly inclined to believe the latter.

In any case. . . no real point debating now. Buhari has rejected the results, will challenge them, and we will learn what is what.

Regarding underage voting, PDP should challenge that too. Let both sides expose all the rigging techniques used, so that in future elections it will never happen again.

History has a way of repeating itself, does it not?

Anyway, as in the past, the Yoruba remain neutral. We have no dog in this fight.

Duplicitous jackasses that shout "South" when it is convenient and they need allies to help them cover their massive rigging. . . when five minutes ago you were mocking the SW using your fake votes!

You are on your own.

^Oh, but it is. If the South Sudanese could muster above 90% voter turnout in their referendum, is it the SS/SE that has suffered so much in Nigeria and been shut out from power that will not turn out en masse for a candidate that is their own. You may see this as just a mere election, but the average Igbo and SS sees it as more of a referendum. As someone said; they took this election personal. Interestingly, the elections mirror almost exactly the primaries in January.
Why wasn't there the same turnout in Ebonyi, if the "average Igbo" viewed it as a referendum? 48% turnout is high, but not at laugh-out-loud levels like 83% in Imo.
