Is the Labour Party the tool of the PDP, as Fashola suggests? There was a rumor of a huge payment from the PDP to LP. And LP is endorsing GEJ for president, if I remember correctly? |
ola olabiy:Shipping by water is probably just a fraction of the cost shipping by road or air. . . if it turns out that shipping by sea costs 1/5th of the distance of shipping by road, then you can ship 5X the distance at the same price. This is a physics/business/transportation thing. . . nothing really special about China specifically. The guy I quoted probably used China as an example because they export so much stuff (and is pretty far away from Nigeria). Anyway, the major point I (and the guy I quoted) is making is that Nigerian infrastructure right now is very bad. . . 450 miles by road from Lagos to Abuja should not be more expensive than 7K or 8k+ miles from Lagos to China. Long story short. . . we need better infrastructure. |
@ideylaff: You paint such a negative picture of Tinapa. Is it doing that poorly? I have some friends who visited it over Christmas break, and they really enjoyed it, thought it was great. |
1.we live in a very globalized world nowadays and I feel that that a united Nigeria gives us a better edge than three little powerless countries. ex. most powerful countries today are US, China. Even Europe formed a union for a reason.
Didn't you read the Wikileaks reports and see how the US and Shell have agents planted all throughout our gov't? Don't you think the multiculturalism of Nigeria makes it weak and prone to interference by outsiders? Anyway, I feel more confident about a hypothetical Yorubaland (with probably 50 or 60 million+ people in it) being able to protect its interests better than Nigeria can. It isn't like the constituent countries would be banana republics. 2. we've done this for 50yrs+ and starting over will be more difficult than you think. You prefer 50 years of banging your head against the wall, continuing with something that simply doesn't work? Period? Why not try a new approach? It's easier to improve a system than overhaul itThen why didn't the Soviet Union or Chekoslovakia just "improve the system"? Both of those former countries are FAR better off now than if they'd muddled along in a bad marriage. 3.who says the ijebus won't rise up against the ifes etc. or minor groups within igbo land won't start warring. This is hypothetical fearmongering. Plus, there is nothing preventing that from happening now. . . but largely speaking it does not. Why would it be more likely to happen in a separate state than now? Anyway, this imo is a ridiciulous point; Yoruba for the most part view themselves as one today. . . time, intermarriage, and having other rivals/enemies in the country have united us. No reason to believe this would fall apart (other than fearmongering.) Even if all of West African were to become one country, it would take at least a century or close to that to happen. going back to point #2.Bleh, screw that. I want economic progress. A country I can be proud of. A country that stands tall in the community of nations. Nigeria right now doesn't offer any of those things. Botched elections, mediocre presidential candidates, terrible governors and leaders, etc, etc. Why is that so compelling to you? for the answer to your question about the basis of Nigerian unity, look around you to other african countries. how many besides Sudan have broken up? do they all have oil? aren't they all multicultural? You've not answered the question, though. I think you are implicitly are agreeing that there is no basis for unity. Wishful thinking and dreaming is not enough. |
^-- Can you give some concrete #s for shipping? BTW, not an apples and oranges comparison. . . Long beach to NYC is 2800+ miles, while Lagos to Abuja is 450 miles or so. 450 miles in the US I'm sure you can do at a fraction of the cost of getting from China. |
Born Gay? Ask REALITY101. He used to be gay!
LWKMD ![]() But at the topic. . . yeah, I think people are born gay. Who would willingly CHOOSE to be gay, with all the stigmatization and persecution attached with it? If it were a matter of choice, most would choose heterosexuality. |
dayokanu:If GEJ wins, is 2015 completely out of the question, though, for Igbos? The Igbo will put forth their candidate, northerners will put forth their own. . . but northerners will be completely united behind their own candidate, rather than the situation now where there is some indecision. Imo, we should wait and see how GEJ does in each state before foreclosing the possibility of Igbo 2015. I do agree that GEJ is more likely to the strategy "use and dump", as OBJ did to Yoruba. But what if he doesn't? |
If Nigeria didn't have oil, I still wouldn't support secession.
What are your reasons for saying this? Aren't people better off managing their own affairs? What is the basis for Nigerian unity other than oil? And with your sort of reasoning, why shouldn't all of West Africa be one country? ![]() The real problem I have with your philosophy is that most of the components of Nigeria are being stifled right now. Nigeria is a country where the sum of the parts is greater than the whole. So we'll continue to bumble along together indefinitely, rather than achieving great heights separately. |
He is no different from that 'andrewnwa' fellow who works for Ohakim. Just an internet propagandist. |
i only pity those ND boys that may want to forment trouble when jonathan loses the election.
![]() But yeah, seems curious that they'd choose the middle of an election for "training exercises." |
$10 million is enough to buy me. Money sweet o wouldn't sell my integrity for 100 naira though, like beaf did |
recoome:Sacrilege to compare GEJ to God What is wrong with you ![]() |
Cork, you are hilarious online. But are you as funny in real life? |
I think aisha2 has a poster of Buhari above her bed ![]() |
^-- Fine by me. I think it is pretty clear (to third parties here reading) that you have nothing to back up your statements. We can leave it at that. |
Justcash:That to you is evidence of corruption A newspaper advertisement? Not even an investigative report by a respected media outfit, not any sort of senate/house inquiry, not guys close to him being jailed/indicted. . . but a two page advert taken out by his political opponents? This alone is what you are accepting? This is what allowed you to boldly state as a fact, "Fashola is corrupt"? So if I take out a two page advert tomorrow claiming that Person X is a child-m.o.lester, that too is proof? I hope you realize how. . . weak that is. I dunno what the burden of proof is like where you grew up, but where I grew up more is required than newspaper adverts. |
^-- lmao |
Justcash:I cannot be the one to research your own allegations for you. The burden of proof is on you, not I; you are the one making the accusation, not I. First you claimed Fashola and the ACN, now you are claiming Fashola and Tinubu. Those are three separate entities, each of which must be judged for corruption individually. Now, it should not be very hard for you to justify this BOLD accusation you are making about Fashola being corrupt. If you have any evidence, provide it. . . and if you have no evidence, then only speak when you can back up what you say. |
Justcash:Alright, so no evidence. Was just making sure. Carry on. |
What evidence do you have that (A) Fashola and/or (B) the ACN are corrupt? Or is this just mindless speculation on your part |
How can he promise who will win in 2015. That is not democracy. . . |
michelin89:Agreed. Nothing more needs to be said. |

^-- And who told you we have to agree? You keep your opinion, I'll keep mine. |
^-- "there" = DC Metro Area, not whatever you thought it was. . . . . |
^-- ![]() Anyway, I grew up around there. As for the rest of your post. . . I'll be charitable and assume you are only temporarily suffering from stupidity. |
Nice read, Physics. I forget at time how fluid ethnicity was before this century (and I guess the 20th). |
A lot of guys in that part of the country doing financial crimes, sadly ![]() |
