Tottenham's Gareth Bale has been named the Professional Football Association's player and young player of the year for 2012-13, becoming only the third person to clinch the double accolade in the same season. Bale has enjoyed another fine campaign for Spurs, scoring 19 times in the Premier League and 14 goals in 17 matches since the turn of the year. The Welshman follows Andy Gray and Cristiano Ronaldo in winning both awards in the same year. Bale secures the player of the year award for the second time, becoming only the fifth player to do so after Mark Hughes, Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry and Ronaldo, having been voted in by his fellow peers. The 23-year-old, who also won in 2011, thanked the Tottenham manager, André Villas-Boas, and admitted he was "extremely proud". "It's a massive honour. To be voted by your peers is one of the biggest things in the game. It's great to win it and I am delighted," he said. "When you look at the list, there are some massive names on it but I couldn't have done it without the team. They have been fantastic this year and so has the manager. The other nominees have been unbelievable, they have been outstanding for their clubs and it's a massive moment to win, especially as it's both awards and it's something that I'm extremely proud of. The biggest thing is playing for your team and going well. If you do well, then these awards come along. I have been shooting a lot more and I have been coming inside a lot more too. I have a few less assists this year but I am in more scoring positions these days and that has obviously helped my scoring tally as we have seen this season." Bale, who has been linked with a move away from Tottenham this summer, was shortlisted for the award along with Robin van Persie, Luis Suárez, Eden Hazard, Juan Mata and Michael Carrick. Suárez came second and Van Persie third. Bale beat Hazard, Jack Wilshere, Danny Welbeck, Romelu Lukaku and Christian Benteke to the young player of the year award. Bale also made the PFA team of the year, which included four players from Manchester United, the Premier League champions. His Tottenham team-mate Jan Vertonghen was named in defence alongside Rio Ferdinand, Leighton Baines and Pablo Zabaleta, with David de Gea as goalkeeper. Van Persie and Suárez were selected in attack, with Carrick, Hazard and Mata in midfield. On his favourite moments this season, Bale said: "There are a few. The one against Norwich was one of my favourites, the West Ham one. Those two are my favourites from this season." The PFA chief executive, Gordon Taylor, said Bale was a good role model for youngsters which could not be said for Suárez, who was last week banned for 10 games by the Football Association for biting an opponent. "Everyone knows Suárez is a great footballer, I just wish at times he could fall in to line because footballers are role models and Gareth and Robin van Persie are really good examples for the younger generation," said Taylor. "Gareth has had a tremendous season, he has had the same impact on Welsh football as Ryan Giggs did. He is part of the Southampton success story."Kim Little, the Arsenal Ladies and Scotland midfielder, won the inaugural Women's Award. Next year will be the first that women will be allowed to join the organisation. She said: "It is a great night for me. For various years I have watched this event on television so to come here and win the first award is fantastic." Eric Harrison, the former Manchester United youth team coach who was responsible for bringing through the club's famous crop of players during the 1990s, received the PFA's merit award. Premier League Team of the Year: David De Gea (Manchester United); Pablo Zabaleta (Manchester City), Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Leighton Baines (Everton); Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Juan Mata (Chelsea), Gareth Bale (Tottenham), Eden Hazard (Chelsea); Luis Suárez (Liverpool), Robin van Persie (Manchester United). Championship Team of the Year: Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester); Kieran Trippier (Burnley), Wes Morgan (Leicester), Mark Hudson (Cardiff), Wayne Bridge (Brighton); Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace), Thomas Ince (Blackpool), Peter Whittingham (Cardiff), Yannick Bolasie (Crystal Palace); Glenn Murray (Crystal Palace), Matej Vydra (Watford). http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/apr/28/tottenham-gareth-bale-pfa-player-of-year |
Two Nigerian stock broking firms- Vision Trusts and Investment Limited and AIMS Asset Management Limited have been suspended from participating in capital market activities by the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC. The capital market regulator said the suspension also affected individuals sponsored by the companies. Information published on the website of SEC indicated that Vision Trust and Investment Limited was suspended as a result of its sale of 131, 868 and 44, 400 units of UBA PLC shares belonging to the estate of Animashaun Anjorin without mandate. SEC indicated that the firm was given several opportunities to restore the shares to the owner, but it failed to do so, hence the suspension. AIMS Asset Management Limited was suspended for non-refund of the sum of N300, 000 deposited by an investor under a portfolio investment agreement. According to SEC, the investor had deposited the sum of N300, 000 with the operator under a portfolio investment agreement for a tenor of 3 years. But at the expiration of the period and despite several demands, the operator failed to pay the investor her invested sum and the returns therein. The firm, according to the capital market regulator invested the investor’s money in the shares of Tetrazzini Foods Limited, a private company whose shares are not traded on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange and which is not regulated by the commission. This, according to SEC is contrary to the portfolio investment agreement between the operator and the investor. The commission said its efforts to get the company to resolve the matter was also not successful and therefore was left with no option that to place the firm on suspension. http://businessnews.com.ng/2013/04/28/sec-suspends-two-capital-market-operators/ |

chillykelly86: Bros, in any venture and especially in the Nigerian Stock Market, you need a fair level of personal conviction before you go in. Don't base your investment decisions only on what someone else says, especially if you don't fully understand what is being said.Lolxxx. True talk |

A Brazilian man has somehow avoided any brain damage after shooting himself through the eye with a six-inch harpoon. Bruno Coutinho was cleaning his harpoon gun at his home in Petropolis when he accidentally triggered the apparatus, sending the harpoon through his left eye and into his cranium. X-rays showed the harpoon speared through his eye straight through to the back of his skull. It took doctors four hours to successfully remove the metal harpoon. A neighbour said: "There were people who saw it and got frightened. A thing like this you only see in a movie." After the accident, Mr Coutinho was able to call for help before he was taken to Santa Teresa hospital. Surgeons carried out two operations to remove the harpoon, which had been stuck inside his head for more than 10 hours. Dr Orlando Maria, chief of neurosurgery at the hospital, said the harpoon came within millimetres of piercing a major artery in Mr Coutinho's head. He said: "The object, it seems, took a path where it didn't damage any vital structures, any vascular structures and was taken out." Amazingly, Mr Coutinho has not suffered any brain damage, although he has lost the sight in his left eye. He has remained in intensive care, but is expected to be released in the next few days. http://news.sky.com/story/1083217/man-shoots-himself-in-head-with-harpoon-gun |
Please does anyone know what is happening to MBenefit (mutual benefit assurance)? They seemed to have been delisted. Any reason for that? |
ItsModella: The OP/author of that article must be smoking some good weed. Because you really have to be on some cloud 9 to just blatantly deny the fact that Nigeria is grossly unsafe. The same Nigeria where armed robbers operate in broad daylight.Check some of his previous posts and you will see that his problem is more than smoking weed. The guy is simply confused. |
pappilo: you will get your (bank's) bidding rate.CBN has got to change this. We are suppose to get bills at the stop rate just as it is in other countries. This is the only thing I don't like about the NTB but don't have a choice. I think it is best to go with your bank's bidding rate instead of missing out due to high bid and having your funds sitting and looking 'Uche Face' until next 2 weeks auction. |
dmcdad: I bought Zenith Bank shares in 2007 @38.90 at that time. The painful thing was, it rose up to 58-60 before the crash... After the crash, that was when I realized I would have sold it when it got as high as 60. Anywayz, at that time, one didn't know it will hit the rock hard.As at that time most people have not received their share certificates which means selling was not possible. The increase in the price was immediately after their IPO which is normal. Of course there is hope for zenith shares. It is one of the best in the banking sector. |
Of course the next of kin should be the first son. Besides, this whole thing can be faked. How is your Aunt sure that the next of kin is her brother-inlaw? Did she go to check all the husband's assets? For example, it is almost impossible for the bank to reveal who a customer's next of kin is to a third party while the customer is still alive. Meanwhile, what if the husband is putting his wife to test? Because I don't think any sane man would prefer his brother to be next of kin when he has a wife and three kids. |
Lolxxxx. This is too funny. |
May God guide Nigerians in Diaspora because the government is almost useless to fight for them. R.I.P my brother. |

You must watch out for the specifications of the employer. If they want MS word then you must use that. Almost all computers will definitely be able to open pdf and MS word files, so both are good. However, I prefer PDF because it is better and safer. |
@Nigeriathrowawa. Yes it depends on when your account was opened. I don't think it is stated anywhere in the forum's website but I am now able to access these sections. So just keep checking. |

LONDON (AP) The English Football Association has charged Liverpool striker Luis Suarez with violent conduct for biting an opponent. In a Premier League match broadcast globally on Sunday, Suarez bit Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic's arm. Although he escaped punishment during the game, Suarez now faces a lengthy ban. The FA says ''the incident was not seen by the match officials and has therefore been retrospectively reviewed ... it is alleged that the conduct of Suarez constitutes violent conduct.'' The FA says the standard punishment of three matches ''is clearly insufficient in these circumstances.'' Suarez has until Tuesday at 6 p.m. local time to respond to the charge. http://msn.foxsports.com/foxsoccer/premierleague/story/fa-charges-liverpool-striker-luis-suarez-for-ivanovic-bite-042213 |
