Career › Re: Help! My Boss Is Taking Credit For My Work by Electroweb(m): 9:01pm On Nov 28, 2018 |
MrOpp: Hello my fellow NLers,
I have been spending quite sometime on this forum recently, TBH, it has been informative, entertaining & quite educative.
I am presently in a dilemma and I need urgent input from experienced NLers, I believe we have experienced career people here that must have gone through what am going through at the moment.
I got a job about 6months ago, its quite a good job, thanks to Nairaland job section, on resumption I notice there was a total overhaul of my dept, all former staff were fired and we were employ to replace them. I resume same day with my Dept Manager two months later a junior officer was employ to join us.
I have had a fantastic relationship with my manager the past six months, and we are in good terms, we drive home together everyday, we chat, have quality conversation, even lunch together etc. but am really becoming worried about something else....
My manger seems to take credit for all my work, he somehow deny me opportunity to prove my worth to top management. Now I will give you a typical instance.
Whenever our GMD comes around, there is always a meeting with one rep from each dept. not neccessarily the departmental head, in his absence am suppose to represent the department, he denies me of opportunity like this.
He has on many occassions deny my opportunity to meet the GMD on job related issues, when the GMD needs to see someone from my dept. or sign some documents even in his absence, he either call me to handover documents to the GMD secretary or send an office assistant to drop the document.
Furthermore, on resumption, I noticed the coy still run their account dept manually, an accounting software was introduce, a software i have used for years, which he (my Manager) is not familiar with, though after the software was deploy, we were trained, even after the training he seems not to know his way around the software interface, i single handedly automated all historial data for the previous 2yrs, and my manager took the credit at the magt meetings. Without even mentioning my name, its really annoying.
I am totally pissed right not cos, he just got a pay rise courtesy to the successful deployment and automation of the accounting system, which he knows absolutely nothing about, which i singledhandedly, paintstakingly work on for over 6months even investing my Saturdays.
The above is one instance out of so many.
I expect a manager to represent work done my the department he manages as "WE in so & so dept" I have overheard him many times using "I".
He personally ask me not to pass any dept info to mgt staff member, and all enquiries should be refered to him. I feel he doesnt want me to shine.
I need advise from fellow NLers who have gone through similar situation.
This is not really going well with me. Just mark your time. The labour market is tough. Your time to shine will come. An opportunity to showcase yourself will come and your manager will have no choice but to praise you in the presence of management. He will not always be around everyday of the year, every year. He will go on vacation one day. Just as someone advised earlier, “Never outshine your master”. You need to tow that line. The labour market is tough and there are bills to be paid. |

Electroweb: Bought some apples. Looked out for Organic ones...thanks to Originalsly’s earlier post. I am back home. Been back for some time now. I laughed at myself for looking for “organic” fruits when I cannot vouch for the type of imported fruits I eat in Nigeria. From the fruits we buy from the street to the ones sold in high class locations ( with big car park) that people drive their families to, as a way experiencing foreign ambiance ( myself included). I dont think all the fruits sold in Nigeria are grown in Nigeria. Let me stop here... I also saw organic eggs too in the US. |

FrankNetter: So the courses I’m taking are Psychology, Philosophy, English and Biology. The biology is divided into class and lab.
Last week, when we went to the lab for some experiments. We were handed thermometers to do some random readings. Having been schooled all my life in naija, I’m used to seeing mercury thermometers. But these thermometers we were given had kerosene in it.
I quietly walked to the instructor and she confirmed it was indeed kerosene, then I asked why they were using kerosene instead of mercury. She told me recent scientific studies have shown that mercury has an adverse effect on neurological (brain) functions in kids and teenagers, so they switched to using kerosene cos it pretty much has the same properties as mercury and has no adverse effects.
Guess which country still uses mercury thermometers? When will Nigeria catch up with the rest of the world? Na wa! Nigeria my beloved country! Na who do us this thing? Na who we offend as a country? If we offend somebody, e never reach make the person forgive us? It is well o! |

Activedreamer: I don't know what they did to the meter thing that made me see 227$. From the airport to Manhattan. I was furious, but needed to get going. Gave him 300,only for him to return it,saying I gave him 3$. I couldn't do anything, I gave him another 300$. He came down to help bring out my luggage. When I stepped out of the car, my waist bag dropped in his car. He picked it,asking me to put it in my box, before bad guys snatch it. Acting all nice asking me to take care of my health. I had 400$ inside an envelope stuck in the bag. The ID!OT took the money.
I got to the hotel only to realise all that's happened. I know that there are taxis that queue up to pick passengers at the airport. If it is one of the taxis you entered, you can contact the airport authority, describe the taxicab, describe the driver and time you entered the taxi. That way they can narrow down on the driver. It wouldn't cost you much, just a phone call and couple of mails. America is a place where compliants are looked at very well. You might even get your money back. |

Activedreamer: Hello guys,I got into the US about a week ago. It was a long stressful flight. I fell sick a day before my trip. Couldn't cancel cos I thought I could manage it,.I regret not cancelling. . Emirates is cool, but I thought Airbus 380 were meant to be spacious. Jeez! The leg room isn't spacious enough. Aircraft filled up,e remain make they sell toilet seat. I was restless from Dubai to NY. Maybe cos I was sick.
I expected so many questions, but got few. I observed all of them, saw a very tired looking guy and joined his queue .
Here; Cbp ,, What do you do and why are you here? Me,, I am a civil servant and i also run a **** company, and im here For business (told him the business I came for) Cbp,, How much you got for it? Me,, I have 7k$ Cbp,, But that's not enough money for the business Me,, I got my credit card here . (For my mind 'You dey crase,How much you get?') Cbp,, Where would you be staying? Me,,mentioned the hotel.
Handed me my passport, and said ,'welcome to America '
I went to pick my luggage. A guy helped me drag it out the roller, cos I couldn't. I was really sick and dizzy.
Guess what? I got duped of my hard earned 700$ by a Pakistani or Indian motherfvckers. ,can't tell. My heart is burning as I write this. This only happened because I was sick and didn't know what was going on. Open your eyes, guys. Humanity is fvcked. Bad guys everywhere.
I think New York is over hyped.I spent 3 nights instead of the planned 1,cos I needed to recover.
Meanwhile, before I return to Naija, i will get my stolen money back from this America . I shall WORK .Thunder fire them! From my experience I have come to realize that the Immigrants (first generation Asians, Indians, Lebanese etc) are the ones you need to be very careful about. The ones with thick accent. They don’t have the American culture in them. They are quick to make a buck off you if you are ignorant, they are the ones that will most likely subtlely urge you to move faster when you are walking on the zebra crossing, they are the ones that will be watching you when you walk into their shop, they are the ones that will give you their call card so you call them when you need a cab thereby cutting off the company they are working for, They are the ones that will not want to give you change. So when dealing with them always be on your gaurd. |

Apart from Peter Thiel, CEO of PayPal, every other tech billionaire in this room including Amazon boss Jeff Bezos supported Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election. This picture was taken during a meeting with the biggest tech billionaires at Trump Tower, December 14, 2016 in New York City.
Anyways, the reason he decided to meet these Silicon Valley Titans is after his election victory is to discuss on ways of moving the tech industry forward but that’s not our problem right now. The main focus of this post is to talk about the amount of money these billionaires control.
https://techcapon.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/billl-768x398.jpg
The picture above shows tech billionaires and their net worth as of 2016. Techcapon.com have decided to update that picture with the latest net worth of these guys in 2018. Some of them have become richer ever since Donald Trump came into office while some have become poorer, lol. But know this, no matter what, these guys have more money in their pockets than some countries have in their entire foreign reserves. They are billionaires. SEE UPDATED PICTURE BELOW.
https://techcapon.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/trump-meeting-file.jpg
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg snubbed the meeting, instead he sent in Sheryl Sandberg to represent him. Same thing with Twitter, Trump’s favorite social media. It is also interesting to know that Trump is seriously attacking Jeff Bezos right now from all angles but so far that hasn’t stopped the Amazon strongman from soaring higher.
Jeff Bezos (AMAZON) $143.1B
LARRY PAGE (GOOGLE) $53.5B
Sheryl Sandberg (FACEBOOK) $1.56B
Donald Trump ($3.7B)
Peter Thiel (PAYPAL) $2.5B
Tim Cook (APPLE) $400M
Safra Catz (ORACLE) $510M
Elon Musk (TESLA) $20B
Eight of them alone is worth over $220B . Don’t forget there are many other tech billionaires not in the picture.
