That market is one of the critical areas of interest to the government and people of Anambra state. Without taking such drastic action, mondays would permanently become public holidays to the citizens.

Aside from shops in the market, there are banks, schools, private homes and government institutions operating there. When the market is shut down on Mondays, every business is shut down and government suffers losses of over 6 billion. How can that be recovered? When the market is shut down, the entire Onitsha is shut down for the day.

The major problem is fear in the hearts of some of the people. There are those who are ready to go to their shops on Mondays, but are discouraged by family and friends. Government has put security in place. Aside from the police and army, we have Agunechemba and SASA, along with other vigilante groups. Anambra is much safe now than it was two or three years ago.
