Mr Tony Elumelu is their (her)Boss, he was addressing his employees and an employee, not just a senior employee, a graduate trainee by indication a recent graduate, addressing her boss just by his name is uncultured. Wasn't she taught in trainee sessions, even in western world, a graduate trainee can't address his/her boss with just his first name, let's be frank about it.

Whoa! I agree... YOU'RE indeed a walking encyclopedia of the Nigerian past that some of us witnessed live! The days of Nigeria z flying Nigeria Airways and British Caledonian Airways to Gatwick Airport without visa restrictions back in the late 1970s to the 1980s come to mind here.

It's good to know that we still have more of we the older folks [Baby Boomers and Generation Xs] here on this discussion forum who have the power of recollection from the past. The 4 turbines were imported from Germany before the 1983 military coup but left to rot away all these years. These kinds of low-hanging fruits or abandoned projects are keys to sustainable development.

The same Buhari/Idiagbon and group who seized power in 1983, under the guise of hardship, used the word “hoarding of essential commodities” to drive home their point. Essential commodities then were rice, sugar, fertilizers, milk, tyres and batteries.

Innocent business people suffered unquantifiable losses, when armed soldiers “acting on information”, as they claimed, invaded warehouses in Lagos mostly, to force sales at their own prices. Soldiers looted warehouses in a lot of cases and owners were grossly underpaid for their goods. Soldiers made plenty of money out of looting people’s warehouses, under the guise of searching for essential commodities. There was the Nigerian National Supply Company, Isolo. It was shut down in 1986 by the same IBB. Their reason was corruption. But the company solely imported essential commodities for sale to citizens nationwide.

Textile mills were destroyed. I remember Kaduna, Aba, ASWANI in Isolo, ARCEE nearby in Isolo, Asaba textile mills among others. Young secondary school leavers found jobs immediately after WASC happily. All destroyed by the military under IBB and Abacha.

The oil boom days would have catapulted this nation to the level of South Africa, Egypt and Morocco, in terms of infrastructural developments. All the resources were looted by the greedy leaders.

OBJ as the military head of state left Nigerian airways in very good shape. He left the shipping company in good shape, along with other huge national monuments and organizations. Sadly, most of them were destroyed. His tenure as the civilian President was an attempt to make certain corrections.

Chief Adisa Akinloye was the chairman of NPN when Buhari’s group took place. That champagne issue was calculated to prove their point of corruption among politicians. The military did far worse after 1983. Infact I recollect that he was called “Adisa champagne Akinloye”. That champagne ended in the national museum as evidence of their false claim. It was pure propaganda, even though NPN was a cesspit of corruption itself.

Abeg, IBB and his colleague Abacha caused more harm than good.

I am not a supporter of truncating democracy or going against democratic rules. But I am of the opinion that if elongation of tenures were possible, OBJ would have made much more inroads, if there was anything like a third term. It took Li Wuan Yu 31 years to make Singapore what it became among nations. OBJ would have made the country much more better than it is today. Without doubt, there are two eras that negatively negatively shaped the economy of our country. They are the Shagari and IBB eras.

The late Umaru Dikko once said that Nigerians had not been eating from dustbins, when confronted about the state of the economy. That was about 1982 or so? That’s to show you how it was then, as Nigerians were lamenting from the hardships caused by their government. With the minimum wage at 130, Nigerians were happy. But that minimum wage started getting eroded by the profligate politicians then. The oil boom was a wasted advantage, even though industries were working well. Our economy was getting terribly looted and destroyed by the then political class. Tribalism was not really pronounced, as there was a very good level of trust among the citizens. However, the political class was in the business of living large to the detriment of the people. Specifically the then NPN, NPP and UPN. It was definitely more pronounced with NPN and NPP, following their alignment. That party NPN was simply there to enrich politicians.

It did not matter that national heroes like Chief Awolowo, Chief Azikiwe and Aminu Kano were leaders of their own parties. It was a national shame, corruption. As I always say, corruption has been the problem of the nation since independence.

As the military head of state, General Obasanjo handed a very vibrant economy over to Alhaji Shehu Shagari in 1979. Nigerians travelled abroad with the naira and exchanged at any bureau de change of their choice, in Europe, USA and Asia. Infact, the naira was smuggled if one has delay to get approval at the CBN. The reason was the bureaucratic bottlenecks then with obtaining foreign currencies.

Buhari/Idiagbon/IBB/Abacha and co, invaded the country with their military coup of dec 31, 1983, under the pretext of fixing the economy. Nothing was fixed, except the highhandedness of the military applied against innocent civilians in the country.
IBB ensured that Buhari and Idiagbon did not last. Finding that flimsy excuse, they had them removed in August 1985 and put Nigerians into a one chance bus, with their dubious challenge to Nigerians, asking whether Nigerians preferred IMF loans or SAP. Nigerians believed them and that became the beginning of troubles.

All through those times, Nigerian passport was travel worthy to most nations. Infact, it was visa on arrival to the UK for Nigerians. It ended at IBB’s government. In September of 1986, IBB introduced SFEM, effectively devaluing the naira and the naira never recovered since then. When he overthrew Buhari, the CBN was running an open general import license scheme. IBB’s government claimed that the then economy was in shambles and he ended that scheme, introducing the import license scheme. That import license scheme enriched the rich more. To access forex, one needed to have contacts in the CBN. It created many overnight millionaires. Corruption was a major challenge all through those years. Buhari/Idiagbon were honestly out to correct the wrongs, but the little successes recorded, were wiped away by IBB’s government, overthrowing them.

The fact for me remains that Chief Obasanjo is the most honest of all of them, irrespective of his personal issues. A total statesmen, a detribalized leader, who never cares about your religion. He honors his friends whether alive or dead. The families of his dead acquaintances enjoy having him as he protects and sees them all. For me, he served the nation with sincerity and wishes to see the nation prosper.

Once again, the so-called coup plot of the 1990s was viciously fabricated by the corrupt Military led by Sani Abacha to get rid of several political opponents and this is why several pro-democracy activists such as Prof. Oluwole Soyinka, former Governor Kayode Fayemi who was the Director of "Radio Kudirat" secretly broadcasting live to the world from the premises of British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in Bush House, London, the current Nigerian President 'Bola Tinubu too moved back to Chicago in Illinois State to escape real assassination (after his Lagos State-based residence and official documents were totally burned), 'Dele Momodu, and much more too had to flee Nigeria via the borders (NADECO Route) to continue the pro-democracy struggle abroad with the help of the governments of the United States, the United Kingdom and several EU countries.

If Atiku won Tompolo’s LGA, how are you sure that the same will not repeat itself in 2027, even with Tompolo’s continued support? Are you not aware that what counts in awarding political positions and contracts is the ability of those concerned to deliver their areas? Some make efforts, but the genuineness of their intentions to win also matter. That’s why Keyamo and Omokri even though they lost in the own areas, were able to secure positions in Tinubu’s administration. I am very certain that the genuineness of Tompolo’s intention towards Tinubu counted for him. Asari Dokubo who also shouted to the rooftops in favour of Tinubu could not get such contract. He got what could be offered to him and yet continues to support his man.

Please stop disputing what we saw and knew in Delta state in 2023. Give us your stories first hand in Edo state and we do not need to dispute. Ask any one who’s up to date about events in Delta state if Tompolo supported Tinubu in 2023 or not. Do not dispute what you know nothing about. Correctly, Buhari awarded the contract. But you must know that pipeline contracts are not just granted to anyone. It’s FG matter and information about the security companies granted must reach the desk of the President. That’s why Buhari gave it to Tompolo, who was properly recommended by the runaway Sylva.

If Tinubu achieves 25% in 2027, that’s fine for him. Remember that in his strongholds, others are expected to achieve same results.

How are you sure that Okowa will win his LGA. In 2023 he managed victory even as he was on the ballot. His popularity dwindled. His fake 2026 senatorial primary votes should not confuse you.
