sad that after surviving a kidney transplant, he died due to negligence....
i weep for my country. a state of emergency needs to be declared in the health sector ASAP
as Piers Morgan once said "with this deaths we lose a vital part of our common existence, a part of our collective soul has just been lost"
cry cry cry cry cry cry

as a medic..could easily have been acute abdomen...he could have benefited easily from admission, an Nasogastric tube, a urinary catheter and close monitoring of his vitals through the night, while awaiting blood work and radiology (which should be available 24/7 in emergency centres)
lack of emergency protocols is killing my people! the doctor relies on book knowledge and intuition when medicine is both science and an art. recognise the symptoms and then treat or refer if beyond the scope of your practice. SHIKENA!
My dear, I love the point you just made. People fail to realise that it both a science and art. When you graduate, you start d art. You don't turn good over night. Medicine is a like a mechanic work. Even after gradation, you have to be trained like a mechanic, receiving instructions from your superiors for EVERY case. It is high time people realised that. I don't blame the doctor on call, however, like you said, something similar to Oschner-Sherren's regimen should have been instituted and suspected IO should not be managed as a home case.

IF YOU STOP WORKING-OUT YOUR MUSCLE WILL TURN INTO FAT.
Thanks for ur information, but Mister, muscles do not turn into fat. You only accumulate fat around body tissues. With exercise, you burn the fats and can also cause the muscle to enlarge, by a process call hypertrophy. Hypertrophy means that new cells do not develop, rather, the already existing cells enlarge.
Thanks

Go see an optician ASAP!
Me thinks he needs an ophthalmologist, not an optician. An optician is only involved with glasses. A lotta problem could cause headache while reading; short sightedness, squinting while reading, stress, bad reading posture, etc. Anyway, it could not be any of these. Like someone said, you know u have a medical problem already, so wat you need to do is to see a doctor.

BOUNTYDOG:
My dog bit,no it was actually scratch someone and the parents insist on anti rabies injection, the Dr asked if my dogs were vaccinated against rabies and i Showed her their cards, she later ask I go buy antirabies injection and I told her I don't know where its been sold, and the dog is not rabid, she treated the wound and that was it.
Have never experienced rabies rght from childhood that I have been dealing with cannines so let's not put fear of every dog bite as rabid cos some already believe every dog bite is rabid.
Is antirabies vaccine easily accessible to medical doctors?like when a dog bites you @ night in a longu and the Dr said he has given you anti rabies would you believe he actually did?

Has anyone in the house been bitten by his dog and had an antirabies shot, why did you get the shot?
It depends on location, but I know that a good hospital should have that. Every good pharmacy would have that too...

Acidosis:
Sony Xperia Z2 is not scatter-proof, your friend is ignorant. The phone only comes with a gorrila glass, i.e. a mild protection against scratches and unnecessary lines on the screen.

These functionalities do not mean users should use their devices carelessly.

The advantage Z3/or Z4 has over the Tecno is clear. I can take a selfie while swimming in a pool, a Tecno user won't try such. Under a heavy rain, I can answer any call comfortably. A Tecno user on the other hand would seek protection in a Kiosk.
This guy you are so funny. Maybe I got d name of the phone wrong, or the guy was wrong... I don deh hide for Kiosk sincesmiley, anyway, if na that one, then more than 85% of everybody here deh hide under kiosk...

Are you trying to defend a N70,000 "flagship" device without an ordinary gorilla glass 4?

Your "flagship" is s t u p i d enough to forget the importance of a powerful screen protection, but wise enough to include a N50 worth of nylon (leather) screen guard as usual?

Have you ever seen a Samsung flagship device without such?

Samsung's 2014 flagship has a scratch resistant screen, with IPS certified dust and water proof tendencies.

The likes of Sony Xperia Z3, Z4, and Z4 compact are shatter proof; i.e. hit a sledge hammer on the screen and watch it firm and active! Drop in a pool of water for 30 minutes and keep surfing the net - These manufacturers are not stu.pid. Mind you, Z3 is still less than N80,000.

Bros, please wake up from your slumber; there is a reason why Tecno will never sell their devices outside the shores of West Africa.
When I bought my Tecno phantom A, my very good friend laughed at me. He bought his Sony Experia Z2 and was shouting to me "Shatter proof, water-resistant". He would drop it in water to amaze me. Fast-forward to about 6 months later, he was charging the phone, when someone's Tecno phone fell from d table and hit the Sony with its edge. My brother, the so-called shatter-proof cracked like an egg and lost sensitivity. Upon d large amount of cash he doled out to repair the phone, it never recovered from that accident........and I am still rocking my Tecno for 2 years+, since that incident.
My problem with Tecno is these, and that's why I would be porting soon, probably to Xiaomi
1)The RAM size is poor.
2)The OS is not upgradable.
3)Poor customer service, which only functions well in trying to sell their phones, but not in repair.
However, I have not had cause to repair my phone since I bought it, however, the charging port of my friends dwh give wahala everytime.
4)The camera quality detoriates with time.

Seriously? Then you really don't know the intimacy between the Rxist and drug.
Just a tip : Pharmacology is the study of the drug interactions with the living system.
Both you and dokintadotun have a point. In pharmacology, there is pharmacokinetics-what d body does it d drug, and pharmacodynamics-what d drug does to the body. The.bad effect if drugs is an interplay between ,the intrinsic property of a drug and d genetic makeup of individual. For example, phenytoin over a long time causes gingival hypertrophy. Sulphur drugs like Sulphadiazine causes black discoloration and rashes to some people.

CareerRe: When Your Degree No Longer Guarantees Success! by ElPhoche(m): 11:38am On Sep 12, 2015
dfrost:
Good morning too brother. I was thinking of an idea yesterday and wish it to see the light, albeit we need serious minded individuals like you and others like VickyRotex, mentorandfriend, dfrost, AgapeCharis et al that I may not have related with personally.

This is it:

1. Generate a Trust Fund

The active accounts here on NL will soon hit 1,500,000. Why do we need to wait for the government to create jobs for our younger ones when we can secure 50% of the future for them. If you and I and others start donating just a meagre NGN10 (ten naira) per month, we will end up generating close to 10.5 million in a month. Now comes the best part.

2. Establish Industries

The trust fund will be used to establish industries in each state of the federation such that serving corp members will be trained in various fields and they do not need to pay a dime to learn from the industries. They in turn will acquire skills and also contribute to the growth of the trust funds. Note that apart from the users on NL (I used NL because this is where we have met like-minded individuals), it will also spread to corporate firms/organisations contributing to the Trust Fund.

Training will also extend to those that do not have the privilege of going to school ( cry it's not easy to be educated, so we should stigmatise those that didn't go to school or further their education).

3. The Big Picture

The Trust Fund will have succeeded, if managed well, in creating 12 industries every year that will generate funds and train people too.

PS: We should not afraid of certain dubious people hijacking and carting away the money and resources.

VickyRotex, mentorandfriend, dfrost, AgapeCharis, et al I await your prompt comments on this.
??
Thats very
insightful. I just came across the idea this morning about crowd-
sourcing for fund. It has worked in other climes

What I'm saying is I experienced it 2ce and the last time up to 3yrs now.
I had my 2 experiences due to carelessness which I believe I cannot encounter except I am careless again.
Septrin is an antibotic and I take it along with ciprotab when I have thyphoid. My Family Dr prescribed it way back and it works well.
The Vets I used then were govt approved vet drs and not just one dr but up to 5 or more as I meet different drs @ different visits,I made friends with the one that knows how to fish out the veins best and arrange to go when he's on duty.
I am not a vet dr so u don't expect me using medical terms as I have my reasons to using layman language here.I'm satisfied with the way the virus was "treated" @ Johnson Agiri
@Bountydog, you are funny. Anyway, let me leave any objections for another.
I think this is how nairaland should be. It should be an educative forum, where we all learn, and not a people-bashing or tribal-cussing forum.

While I see your point and agree with it, the scenario you have explained does not apply to my case because the doctor was just not ready to speak for reasons best known to him.
Dear, all I am trying to say is that it ur right to know what your problem is and d aim of treatment. But sometimes, it is hard to.do thaat. I remember when I did my ophthalmology posting in Guinness Eye centre, in Onitsha. There would be like 7 doctors, attending to close to 200-300 patients per day, and the doctors are still expected to teach us. The consulting room. was very small hot, and crappy, and dark too, without AC. We would be like 20 students wt d doctor inside d room, attending to one patients who usually would be intimidated by the crowd. There, you dont explain much, because,if you try it. You will only end up attending to 30 out of 300per day. Sometimes, you have to be on d other side of the fence to understand. It is not all that rosy....

Well, they need to be retired then! Arrggghhh!! You can imagine my shock when I discovered what really ailed me. It was shocking and debilitating, and I was so angry. The man was like 'are you trying to teach me my job?'

"Hian, eskiz sir, not at all sir. Just explain what the fvck this test result is saying," said I. angry

However, you are right, we shouldn't villify Nigerian doctors considering the limited resources they have to work with.
There is a rationale behind every treatment that d doctor gives you. It is good that all patients should be informed about their sickness and treatment. It is their right. In fact fact I make it a duty to explain to my patients what is wrong with them and what I think is causing their problem. Take for example, a man who comes in with a swollen left testicle and complaining about d pain and that he cannot sleep at night. An examination revealed an enlarged prostate. He was trying to hurry me, but I calmed him, drew a drawing of d male urinary system and showed him that treating only d scrotal swelling without touching d prostate issue will still lead to recurrence, and showed him how his problem arose. He left a happy man. But explaining to every patient becomes difficult WHEN YOU HAVE TO ATTEND TO 100-150 PATIENTS, WHICH IS USUALLY THE CASE IN THE LARGER SECONDARY AND TERTIARY HOSPITALS.
You might think you made a right personal diagnosis, in fact, and still be right. But bear in mind that a group of symptoms can be explained by more than one disease. That's why we have what is called differential diagnosis. Thats where, d wealth of knowledge and experience of the doctor comes in. You might want to retire d doctor, but medicine apart from being a science, is also an art. After d university, you start learning like an apprentice from the more senior doctors. You learn from their wealth of experience too. Medicine is like a craft, passed down from generation to generation.
