What kinda job would you be doing to spend money monthly on clothing, in Nigeria, you buy your food in bulk and cook to eat in the house and cut down on your "Point and Kill joint"
Transportation, i will assume you have your own car, and if you dont, i am not familiar with cost of moving from one side to the other in Nigeria.
Fuel will be used only when you are home and for your ride if you have one and i dont see that as breaking the bank, i could be wrong cos i have no idea the cost of buying gas out there.
If you have children, you wont be paying school fees every year.
AGAIN, the 30% to me is the threshold that you wont wanna pass, if you are able to make it smaller, by all means

30% of income to pay rent in Nigeria is disaster waiting to happen. Things like fuel for generators, buying of water (potable), subscriptions (internet, pay to watch satellite e.t.c) will still take a sizable chunk of the income.

Should not be more than 15% of his TOTAL annual income, or else (s)he might die a tenant.

No fewer than 486 magic examination centres identified in Anambra State are to be shutdown by the state government as part of official measures to curb examination malpractices in the education sector.
The state Commissioner for Education, Prof Kate Omenugha, who gave the hint during the 10th anniversary of St. Joseph Academic Award for 2014, said these examination miracle centres had been aiding and abetting examination malpractices especially during West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) examinations.
Prof Omenugha, while commending the founder of St. Joseph Academic Award, Mr. Bath Nwibe said the decision to shutdown the magic centres was induced by the way their operators fashioned them to swindle unsuspecting but desperate candidates.
His words: “We have government schools and approved private schools that are saddled with the responsibility of training our children to become functional members of our society. But with the emergence of these miracle centres, our children no longer study to pass examinations; rather they go to those places where they will be helped to pass examinations. We have set plans in motion to ensure that those examination miracle centres are closed down so that our children would imbibe the spirit and culture of success through hard-work.”
Mr. Nwibe, an engineer, noted that the award was instated to ensure that the human resources given to the youths were guided to become real assets to the society.
 “This is by guiding them to develop the habit of hard-work early in life and thus, get good education that will form the launch pad for their growth and development in other areas,”
He pledged willingness to partner with the state government in the area of enlarging the foundation to the state level, “while we continue in extending succour to the beneficiaries.”

The total number of students who sat for wassce from anambra are roughly 50,000 students


Now imagine 486 illegal runs centre in the state. Divide 50,000 by 486, and tell me what you get.

Actually, ibadan has 11 local governments, 5 of the 11 lgas are referred t as the main city, but over the years a greater part of the remaining 6 lgas which used to be semi urban has metamorphosed to urban settlement.

Seeing a lot of people on this thread claiming gas is cheaper economically at the price of 2800 for 12.5KG cylinder really got my eyes popping wide.
Simply because it's completely false.
Yes, gas is faster, more convenient, obviously ecologically friendlier, does not blacken pots with soots and comes with this 'touchéness'.

But cheaper!?, that is a blatant lie.
Let me illustrate it well.
I do a light cooking once a day early in the morning plus a heavy cooking once a month usually a Saturday.
Initially, I bought 15 litres of Kerosene at 120 Naira/Litre = 1800.
I used this for 4months.
Then I purchased these two 12.5Kg which I filled at Aba (Abia State) at 3200 per 12.5Kg cylinder.
Each cylinder lasted an average of 18 weeks i.e 4.5 months.

Equivalency of the gas to the kerosene head-head is ~700 Naira/month for the gas as against 450 Naira/month of Kerosene.
It might appear to be a small difference.
But for a large family size; with increased/ higher frequency of cooking and with modest income/means, the cost implication becomes huge astronomically especially over a given length of time.

So, in truth & reality, the price of gas needs to come down a bit from that high clime of 2800 per 12.5Kg Cylinder for us to start comparing it as being better than Kerosene in cost-effectiveness.

But, like I said initially, there are so many advantages of gas that you might find invaluable & difficult to even put cost/value on.

If i should extrapolate your analysis, you are saying roughly 16.5 litres of kerosene will do the same amount of work as a gas filled 12.5kg cylinder..

free2ryhme: Since we have been using the trees or kerosene show me where there has been deforestation. Give me proof. Stop using western issues to just use of gas. Go check your records african contribute very minimal to the effect of green house on the ozone layer

Start from your village if you have one, i can bet there are fewer trees than they were 10 years ago, and the decline is continuos, 1.e there would be fewer trees than now in the years to come. You will have to fell more trees to get firewood, if you continue at that rate, there might be no more trees for firewood and other purposes, except the society is planting far higher number of trees than it is felling.(afforestation vs deforestation)

Combustion of wood releases green house gases, depletes ozone layer and more global warming.


It is a faulty long held belief that usage of gas is not for low income earners, you spend less using gas than kerosene., it is pocket friendly.

Except you are cooking for the whole of your local government, the 12.5kg cylinder should at worst last 1.5 months.

berem: The price of refilling a 12.5kg cylinder is quite on the high side. A common man cannot afford 2,800naira for that. The price should be reduced if they want a success in their campaign.

There are smaller gas cylinders like 3.25kg and 6.5kg which refilling cost should be 750 and 1,500 respectively. I believe it is cost effective than Kerosene.

I think doctors should have suspended the strike action for a period of time , say 2-3 months since the ebola break out. That way, they would have enjoyed massive public support when they return back to the strike action.

You cant underestimate public support in this kind of situation, Doctors lost the opportunity when they failed to suspend the strike at the heat of the ebola outbreak, they now look like selfish doctors in the eyes of the masses.

As much i believe this current government has failed, it is absolutely impossible for it to meet all the requests from professional bodies , sacrifices will have to be made.
