Following the release of 2018 UTME results by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, another candidate has emerged with the highest score so far.

He is Esan Ibukunoluwa Caleb of Shepherd International College, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State.

The 17-year-old student pulled a total score of 351

Breakdown shows that he sat for English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and scored 78, 91, 97 and 85 respectively.

A terse statement by the school on Saturday shows that his JAMB number is 85346758FD.

Esan’s examination centre was Ekiti State University ICT centre.

Also, the teenage’s career in view is Computer Science.

JAMB recently announced the release of the final batch of the 2018 UTME result.

Former deputy senate speaker Ibrahim Mantu in a new interview has confessed to helping PDP rig elections.

On how he did this, Mantu said he offered a bribe to electoral officials and security agents during elections.

“Let me tell you one thing, yes I did. I am now confessing the truth. I don’t have to go and change election (results) but when you provide money, you give money to INEC boys that if they see any chance they should favour you, you provide money to the security personnel. About 15 herdsmen have lost their lives after gunmen suspected to be cattle thieves opened fire on them.

Gunmen believed to be cattle thieves killed 15 herders in the latest bout of violence in northern Nigeria’s herding communities, AFP has reported.
According to the police spokesman for Zamfara state, Muhammad Shehu, the “armed bandits attacked Bawon-Daji village yesterday and killed 15 people.”
His account was corroborated by a senior local government official, Gado Anka.
Speaking to AFP, Anka said motorcycle-riding gunmen stormed the remote village in Anka district around 1:00 pm (1200GMT), shooting dead 12 residents before fleeing to a hideout in the bush.
“They returned two hours later and attacked mourners during the funeral of the victims in the cemetery, killing three more and injuring several others,” he said.
Rural communuties in the agrarian state are under siege from gangs who kill, loot and torching homes.
This has prompted villages to form vigilante groups — which in turn are often accused of extra-judicial killings of suspected cattle thieves, prompting deadly reprisals by the gangs.
It was not clear if the latest killings were as a result of reprisals.
In February, dozens of people were killed when gunmen opened fire on traders and villagers at Birane, in the Zurmi area of the state.

President Buhari says the Federal Government is committed to uniting the people of the country such that every Nigerian can benefit from the other.

The Katsina State Government has approved the employment of 1,000 security guards for all boarding secondary schools to secure lives and property of students.

Gov. Aminu Masari disclosed this during the Third Convocation ceremony of the Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina on Saturday.

According to The News Agency of Nigeria,Masari said that the decision was in view of the prevailing security situation in the country.

“Even though Katsina is considered as one of the most peaceful states in the country, the government is not taking chances to allow students to be vulnerable to attacks by criminals.

“The state government is committed to protection of lives and property of the state’s citizens as well as the students,’’ he said.

The governor recalled that when he assumed office in 2015, he made it clear that his mission was to recover the lost glory of the state in education and agriculture.

He said his administration equipped existing schools, building new ones, increase the number of enrolment, recruiting qualified teachers and retraining of manpower to make the sector attractive.

“We believe that a learned society that is attune to the demand of its time is a more successful one, that is why we continuously commit a huge percentage of the state budget to the education sector,’’ he said.

Except he reports to the police on or before Wednesday, 28 March, the Nigeria Police has threatened to declare Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, wanted.

The Kogi State Police Command had written to the senator to appear before it to answer charges of gun running levelled against him by two suspects in police custody.

Jimoh Moshood, the Force Public Relations Officer, in a statement issued on Saturday, disclosed that an invitation and a court summon had been issued to Senator Melaye, both of which he did not honour.

He said the senator is wanted on grounds of criminal offences of conspiracy and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms, Channels Television reports.

According to the PRO, Melaye’s summon follows the arrest of two men in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, on January 19, after they confessed to having committed various crimes such as kidnappings and armed robbery.

They also disclosed that the Senator had handed them a bag containing firearms.

The Nigerian Military has reopened the Maiduguri-Bama-Banki Road, four years after it was captured by Boko Haram terrorists.

The Deputy Governor of Borno State, Mr Usman Durkwa, cut the tape to reopen the road on Saturday.

He believes the development has proven the success in the collective fight against insurgency in the North East.

Durkwa, who praised the President for his relentless effort in ridding the country of terrorism, was also optimistic that the reopened road would enable the people to pick up the pieces of their past lives.

He said, “We thank President Muhammadu Buhari and the military leaders for standing by the people of Borno state. May God continue to assist us to see that we return Borno State to its former status as the home of peace.”

The deputy governor further assured the security agencies that the state government would continue to provide them with all the necessary machinery to succeed until they get a lasting solution.

He added that the government would provide necessary support to ensure that all displaced persons from various communities return to their original homes.

The major road, which connects the headquarters of Maiduguri and Bama local government areas, was reopened amid jubilation from residents of both towns.

While some residents are concerned about how safe the 75-kilometre trunk-A lane is, others noted that they are more interested to return to their ancestral homes.

Nigerians have reacted to the release of Dapchi schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram insurgents from Dapchi in Yobe State, the girls were returned at the early hours of Wednesday in nine vehicles, an episode similar to how they were taken away.

It was, however, gathered that five of the girls may have died while in custody of the insurgents.

Meanwhile, Nigerians have expressed worries about the mysterious return of the girls.


They queried how Boko Haram insurgents were able to get into Dapchi town without being apprehended by security agents.

Majority of them have now accused President Buhari’s government of being behind the abduction.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday ordered four ministers to proceed to Dapchi in Yobe for an update on the release of the female students abducted in February.

The Ministers include Mansur Dan-Ali, Defence; Abdulrahman Danbazau, Interior; Lai Mohammed, Information; and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Khadijat Abba-Ibrahim.

The four ministers left the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting for the trip to Dapchi.

Before their departure, the Information Minister confirmed that 76 of the released girls had been documented.

According to him, when the girls were dropped in their school by the abductors many of them went straight home to reunite with their parents.

“I can confirm that the Dapchi girls have been returned, what we can confirm to you is that Mr. President did actually assure Nigerians that the abducted girls would be released, but he also said that violence and confrontation would be ruled out.

“Based on that, the Federal Government with the support of friendly countries embarked on back term negotiations; this back term negotiation has led to the release of these girls.

“What I can confirm today is that these girls were released yesterday, but on the conditions, number one is that they were released unconditionally; no money changed hands.

“Number two, they had one condition to return them to where they picked them.

“So in the early hours of today they did return the girls, most of the girls went to their parents’ homes,’’ Mohammed stated.

According to him, efforts are now being made to document all the girls, adding that at the moment, 76 of them have been documented while “they are still more.’’

He promised to give an update on the incident from time to time.

“It is a day of joy for Nigerians. What I can assure you is that Mr president has kept his promise.

“The girls have been released and we will tell you exactly in a few hours time how many of them have been documented.

“They were not molested,’’ he added.

Also, Defence Minister, Mansur Dan-Ali attributed the early release of the girls to “the effort of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces for the support he has been giving us and the output is showing now.”

On the negotiations, the minister said that while it was being planned the government was prepared to move on a position of strength.

Also Minister of state for Foreign Affairs, Khadijat Abba-Ibrahim said: “I am very excited today. That is what I feel because the Dapchi girls have been released.

“We are very happy. We have achieved what we have gone out to achieve and we thank the Almighty God for his mercies.”

She declined to mention if any of the girls was killed.

“As far as I know now, they are taking a roll call so we cannot ascertain how many have passed on, but we will find out later on what the casualties are.’’

The minister advised parents not to be discouraged by the incident but to continue encouraging their female children to embrace education.

“I will advise parents to continue sending their children to school.

“We as a government will fortify the schools to make sure that they are safe for the children to actually go and learn,’’ Mrs. Abba-Ibrahim said.

The Federal Government on Wednesday confirmed that 91 Dapchi schoolgirls and one boy were released in the early hours of today.
The government also said that no ransom was paid for their release.
The Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, told State House reporters that the girls were released unconditionally, “no money changed hands”.
He said the only condition given by the insurgents was that they woulf return the girls to where they picked them. “So in the early hours of today, they did return the girls and most of them went to their parents’ homes.
“As of now I can confirm that 91 girls and one boy have been released. The event is developing. Many of the girls that were released were not dropped in one place. Some were dropped on the road and they went back naturally to their parents’ houses. They are now being asked to come and be documented at a centre and as at five minutes ago, I was told 91 girls and a boy had been documented.”
On why was a boy among the girls released, Mohammed said: “I can tell you that is authentic. Whether they pick the boy or not I can’t hazard any guess but don’t forget even in a girl school, which is a boarding school there will be parents, they are teachers who can have children amongst them. But what I have been told is that 91 girls and one boy have been documented.”
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari had sent a delegation comprising the Ministers of Information, Interior and State for Foreign Affairs to Dapchi.
The delegation is currently on their way to the state.

Teddy A is officailly the oldest housemate in the reality television show, was caught on camera displaying the underwear of a fellow housemate, Nina.

Teddy A shocked the other housemates when he appeared in the sitting room holding female pants on a hanger.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has charged President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately recover over N28 billion meant for the rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the northeast but allegedly stolen by members of the Presidency cabal and certain Interests in his All Progressives Congress (APC).



The party said the presidency and the APC are not being sincere with the IDPs by providing cover for those who have been frittering away billions of naira donated for the well-being of victims of insurgency.



The PDP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, on Sunday, said the President cannot in all honesty claim not to be aware of reported sharp practices, involving billions of naira in the management of funds in the Presidential Initiative on the North East, since the issues came into the public domain.

Indeed, the Presidency cannot, in any way imaginable, claim not to be aware of reports that sometime in August 2017, a cabinet minister and a high ranking Presidency official were alleged to have diverted N18 billion from the N48 billion approved by the National Assembly for the rehabilitation of millions of IDPs and rebuilding of six northeast states ravaged by insurgency in the 2017 budget.

The APC and the Buhari Presidency cannot claim to be unaware of the damning report by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), a public document which detailed how officials were using bulk of the resources meant for the IDPs on contracts that were found to have immensely benefitted officials of the APC Government including the sacked Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal.

The Buhari Presidency and the APC cannot also claim to be unaware of the motion by Senator Baba Kaka Garba from Borno Central, who exposed how persons known to have connections with the APC, fraudulently cornered N1.2 billion from the Federal Government under the guise of supplying items to IDPs.

Despite the open allegations, the Presidency has not taken any firm step towards an open investigation into the alleged involvement of a cabinet minister and top Presidency in the stealing of N18 billion IDP fund, not to talk about recovering the stolen funds.

The PDP recalled that it took immense pressure from Nigerians before President Buhari could even sack his indicted former SGF, who, hitherto, was enjoying the cover of the Presidency.

All the IDP’s had got from the APC and Buhari-led Presidency are excuses, false assurances, cosmetic condolence messages and crocodile tears, while the cronies and cabal who are frittering away their funds enjoy the protection of the government.

Perhaps, this explains why Mr. President’s handlers, in all his visits to troubled states, has ensured that he had no direct interaction with the IDPs probably to avoid being directly taken to task on the stolen fund.

It is clear to Nigerians that the APC government swims in corruption and concealment of sleazes, but stealing from the IDPs is what they least expected. That, for majority of Nigerians, is the worst form of man’s inhumanity to man.

The PDP therefore stands in solidarity with those deprived victims and we demand an end to this concealment of fraud and cosmetic concern for the victims.

The PDP also challenge Buhari Presidency to live true to its 2015 elections probity campaign by making the report of its administrative investigations on sleaze involving the Cabal and other APC interests public.

The PDP also urge all Nigerians and the international community to join hands and ensure that the funds are recovered from APC interests and immediately released to the IDPs.

She was reportedly abducted by unknown gunmen on Sunday March 18th, 2018 at Ubakala, Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State.

According to an online news platform Society Reporters, family sources said that she was kidnapped on Sunday morning while on her way to church at Nsukwe Ubakala in Umuahia…

“The kidnappers were waiting patiently for her to come to Assemblies of God Church Nsukwe Ubakala where she worships. They took her away to an unknown place.”

It would be recalled that sometimes in 2016, it was rumoured that same woman was kidnapped until it was later proved to be a rumor but our source insisted that this time it is a known fact.

Report says the kidnappers are yet to reachout to the family or make any demands as at press time.

The Bangalore unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested a 41-year-old Nigerian national who is believed to be the head of the supply chain of illegal drugs in India.

The accused, John Somadina aka was arrested last week on the basis of a tip off from the Ahmedabad bureau. He has been handed over the Ahmedabad NCB.

It was gathered that Somadina, was a pan-India supplier of illegal drugs such as cocaine, heroin, amphetamine, etc.



He coordinated with the drug cartel that was involved in smuggling illegal drugs from South America and Africa into the country.

The modus operandi of the criminal was to illegally bring Illegal drugs into the country and then to the smaller cities such as Ahmedabad, Baroda, etc.

His carriers will then supply the illegal drugs in small quantities to bigger cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Bangalore, among others.

“Most of the people who act as carriers in this crime are citizens of Nigeria, Kenya, Venezuela, Vietnam, Columbia and Brazil. And they are mostly drug addicts themselves. There also appointed several people from the North East as carriers. At least 12 of the carriers were apprehended by the NCB from different cities. The carriers would work for them for free supply of drugs,” shared Hari Om Gandhi, Zonal Director, NCB.

Investigation revealed that Somadina was involved in at least 12 cases of illegal drug supply and smuggling.

Investigators said he was also in touch with the international drug cartels in South America, which made it easier to smuggle illegal drugs into the country with the help of carriers.

It was also suspected that he was running a country-wide racket in 2014. The Ahmedabad NCB has been granted three-day judicial custody of the accused.

A family is left with nothing after a fire tore through their home that was allegedly started by a mobile phone charger.

The family lost all their possessions after the fire broke out on the upper floor of their house in the Welsh village of Aberfan.

Alice Matthews said her sister Lana, brother-in-law Stuart, and seven-year-old nephew Cole were out of the house on Tuesday morning when the blaze started.

The fire that completely destroyed the house’s first floor and badly water damaged the ground floor was caused by a mobile phone charger in an upstairs bedroom.

The family were told they would have to wait a year for their home in Ynysowen Fach to be rebuilt and must move into temporary accommodation in Gurnos in Merthyr Tydfil.

“My sister left the house at about 9.30am and by about 9.40am police phoned her to say the house was on fire,” Ms Matthew, 27, said.

‘The upstairs has completely gone and the downstairs is badly water damaged so nothing is salvageable.

‘My brother-in-law is keeping strong for my sister and my nephew doesn’t really understand what has happened.

‘They were really lucky though that they weren’t there when it happened.’
Since the fire, the family have been ‘overwhelmed’ by the response of the community.

So far Ms Matthews has received countless donations for her sister’s family including three cookers, a washing machine, and TV.

An online fundraising page has also raised more than £1,000 in less than a week after doubling the original target of £500.

‘My sister is in shock but she’s overwhelmed by what people are doing,’ Ms Matthews said.

‘The last few nights I’ve been out collecting clothes for my sister and people are donating everything. It’s amazing. I think they have everything to move into their new house.’

No fewer than 62,066 Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) have been confirmed uncollected in Katsina State as a result of death, transfer or relocation of their owners.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Jubril Ibrahim Zarewa, who made this known to newsmen yesterday in Katsina, said about 2,555 people had collected their PVCs in the state since the on-going Continued Voters’ Registration (CVR) commenced last April.

He said studies have shown that a large number of the uncollected PVCs were for students who had since completed their studies and may have moved to another state or some workers transferred outside the state or some residents of the state who had since changed their places of abode after the 2011 voters registration exercise.

“If it is only one person that did not collect his PVC, he is of concern to us because that person cannot perform his civic responsibility. We don’t want that person to be denied his right to vote,” said Zarewa.

Zarewa also revealed that a total of 167,112 persons had been registered since the CVR exercise began in April, 2017, adding that more than half of the figure was registered in the past six weeks since the on-going exercise began.

The outstanding performance in the exercise, according to him, started after the state INEC office received 18 additional state of the art data capturing machines and an approval to move the registration centres from one ward to another to stem the challenges faced by prospective voters.

The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has said the failure of Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to relocate to Benue State as ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari, was an indication that the president was losing control of his security chiefs.

The party also noted that the many reports of killings by herdsmen and Boko Haram clearly showed that the current administration lacked the will to win the war against insecurity in the country.

National Coordinator of the party’s Grassroots Development, Bright Amewhule, stated this in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, yesterday, while receiving some members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who defected to the PDP.

He said: “If the IG of police disobeyed the order of the president to relocate to Benue State and the president has not done anything, it means that he (Buhari) is losing charge of the security chiefs.

“As the Chief Security Officer of the nation, he ought to be in charge. Buhari should take the lives of Nigerians seriously because that is what he swore on oath to do.

“President Buhari is not qualified to be in office if he cannot control the Inspector General of Police. He asked the IGP to relocate to Benue State but he refused, it shows that he (Buhari ) is not in charge.

“Every day we hear herdsmen killing innocent people and we have heard that the school girls kidnapped in Dapchi are still in the hands of their abductors, it means the president is not serious with security of lives and property of Nigerians. He should take the lives of Nigerians seriously.”

The federal government has offered employment to 350 ex-agitators from the Niger Delta region, who graduated from various tertiary institutions across the world. Paul Boroh, coordinator, presidential amnesty programme, PAP, made this known when he met newsmen in Abuja on Friday.



Boroh, who doubles as the special adviser to the president on Niger Delta, said the affected ex-agitators had already been posted to various federal ministries awaiting approval of the 2018 appropriation bill by the National Assembly.



“The federal government ensured that about 350 of them have been employed in the various ministries in the country. We are only waiting for appropriation so that once they report to their various ministries they will start earning their salaries,’’ He disclosed that the 350 graduates were among the about 30,000 ex-agitators sponsored for various studies abroad by the amnesty office.



The presidential aide, however, described as untrue and false that some of the ex-agitators studying abroad had been abandoned following the failure of the amnesty office to pay their school fees and allowances.



“I will never allow any of my children schooling outside this country under government (sponsorship) to suffer. So as we speak 96 per cent of those on off-shore scholarship have graduated and returned home. I have only a few, in fact not more than 100 of them left in the entire globe where they have been schooling in the US, UK, Asian countries and South Africa – they have graduated and have come home. The ones that refused to graduate and are trying to make life unbearable for themselves is their own cup of duty. The federal government is not responsible for them anymore,’’ he said.



Boroh, who announced that no date has been fixed for the collapse of the amnesty programme, said his office was in the process of achieving sustainable reintegration of the ex-agitators in the programme. According to him, his task is to continue to ensure peace and stability in the Niger Delta region.
