izyoku: ...everytime I read about cost of running a car especially the newer years I get very concerned. When am buying a car am a lost more concerned about buying atleast a relatively new car say 5years. I try to crosscheck previous maintenance history and if am buying from the auction I try to access the type of damage am buying. From my experience the newer the car the lesser the headache and cost of running the cars maximum I try to use mycars 2 - 3yrs I selloff and buy something newer low miles that way me and mechanics have very little business apart from regulat maintenance. If you buy a good car use it well and care for it you will spend less.Unfortunately not everyone has the means to do 5 years and less cars. But that is not also to say older cars don't last longer. People look for what they can keep. While i can afford to buy the E60 i know that keeping it in top shape might be a challenge because of the cost of OEM/replacement parts and also normal or regular changes. I believe the same applies to all other car owners. The key is to keep what you can afford and not just buy cos u can pay the one of cost of the care. BMWs in this case need SPECIAL attention. It is something you don't joke with else you will hate the car. |
yungboss: the e60 is definitely going to be more expensive to run...Yes it is. . . . the one in page 9; i pre-ordered it for my colleague. We did a water pump and thermostat change all totalling - N110k The erections i had for the car went flaccid INSTANTLY!!!!! I was already plotting to nick up a 2004 model until i experience this. I also felt it was more advanced technically than any other BMW bar the 7 series. |
yungboss: okay sir, I have not lived with the e39 for long, but a relative owns a 528i, he's had it for up to 3-4years now, he came from the e34 525i. He told me the car is relatively easy to maintain...my Mech is good with BMWs, he had a e34 535i, which he complained was a gas guzzler (though his was old). He now drives an e36 320i. The e39 having a vanos engine would way be economical compared to the e34.Thank you so much for the information. I guess my decision is made. I will speak to the guy and then firm things up. Barring any new discovery I think the E39 is it. I will just stick to the 525i or 525iT. Love them wagons. ![]() Will also do more research. I kept wishing the E60 was any cheaper. Would have been an easy decision since I LOVE the car. |
yungboss: the e46 has the same engine as the e39, difference would bein the suspension system. The e39 has same aluminum components as the e46, but the set up is similar to its older brother's, the e34. Parts are relatively cheap too. It is weightier than the e46, and the latter feels sportier and more nimble. I have driven extensively the e39 528iI didn't initially see those comments above. My internet connectivity this evening has been wanking. Now, you have addressed my fears. But i am basically struggling with what is practical, easy on the pocket to an average 9-5 worker with small sized family so that i won't have heart attack any time the car acts up. I know owning one requires the owner to at least have some above average knowledge of the car. But i won't do the E60 even if i can afford to buy it just because the cost of keeping it is high. I am also just planning of sticking with 525 or 325i for fuel economy. Overall, i can only depend on practical information from users like you to be guided properly. |
yungboss: that's great, I plan to do a swap 323/330 swap, but the issue is one is an M52 engine and the other is an M54. My mech tells me it is possible but I'm doubtful of a seamless state of the car thereafter...a 328i swap is easy, just flash or change the ECU, same gearbox, same wiring cos they are same Generation...you get an instant +20hp and +25lb-ft gain. Your spec is exactly mine, 323ci 18". The 323ci is fast though, ample power for the highway.Still waiting on your opinion about my inquests above! |
xerotop: E39 is one sweet ride that u shld nt miss. Very quiet, sleek, smooth, fuel efficient, rugged and balance ride.Uncle God bless you. I was a little wary about this cos of likely issues. I am also conscious of maintenance cost. I was torn between the E46, X3 and C Class. The C class was winning but i felt i haven't explored well until something asked me to check out the E39. I am not SOOO passionate about the BMW but care enough to own one. From what i get from you, i can close my eyes and say that i have found a ride that will not hurt my pocket and will also mean less visits to a repair workshops. Aside the issues mentioned above, any specific issue i should pay attention to? |
Ok.... so what are your takes on the E39 (2003 5 series) |
Gee2728: Sorry brother, not as common as the X5. Dnt even know an enemy that drives it.Lol. . . . . . . .get to see it more often in Abuja these days. The truth is, i had initially settled for the 2005 325i but the elegance of the Benz C class of the same year is just giving me sleepless nights. So what i have done is to look for a more beautiful but reliable BMW to take my heart away from the Benz. My options include; the E90 and E60 which would have made my decision easier. But budgetary and maintenance costs scare me. The X3 came in handy but lack of information is not helping matters. The next target is the E39. . . .any info on that? |
No one has given me an indepth review of the X3? |
Gee2728: My cousin pays. VAT on even iphone 5S from the U.S so am guessing a car will definitely not be exempted. Do u mean F.G dnt charge for VAT in Nigeria?Your customs import duty covers all that. There is the surface duty and then 5% VAT on the duty which is paid to the Federal government. All that were built into the Naira price i gave above. I hope this answers the question? |
Gee2728: I guess this amount ur quoting will not include VATVAT in Nigeria or USA? |
efelusi: Hello Guys, Please advise a brother.... I am about paying for a BMW X5 2002, 4.4i with a V8 engine... thought i could get a 4.4i V6..... please i need advise on maintenance and fuel efficiency.... i am presently driving a 2000 528i. Advise is urgent!!!!! Siena and the BMW gurus intercede...It is either a 4.4litre V8 or a 3.0 litre I6 engine. If you want fuel efficiency pls stick to the 3.0 liter. The 8 cylinder is no easy on gasoline. |
izyoku: Buying BMW's from the auctions most times afford one the bestdeals...but always look out for the type of damage and impact on the rebuilt title cars....and make sure you have a good body shop to fix up damage nicely....also try and RUN VIN checks and get car history online to have an idea of any available previous history's on the car.....from my research later years BMW's apart from the M series are not so expensiveI got the E60 from auction copart precisely at 93000 miles. Look good and a nice deal at $9800 add auction fees and it got up to $10275. The vehicle history report also looked good and no crash at any point was recorded. At the time I got it there was also a 2008 E60 that was on sale. Eventually sold for $12550. Auction deals are dependent on the mood of the market and how many people are going for it. From now til end of January is when we get crazy deals so I ask every interested person to look in. I can help anyone who is interested. |
Please who has an idea of the workings of the BMW X3? I need a good run down and the likely issues |
yungboss: congrats, parts are quite pricey, it was good you fixed it up. How much will an e60 530i go for now?Lol. . . . . .was tensed for a better part of Wednesday waiting for the car in Abuja. Was wary of any issue along the way for nothing other than dearth of a decent BMW specialist. But it all ended well. The owner of the unit is also a new entrant to the BMW users network so we are doing the learning together. This should help me understand the car preparatory to getting an E46 or E39 Entry price is dependent on where you are buying from. I am a car dealer so it was easy to sniff this deal out. I dropped this one in at about N2.350m with a small change above which i consider a good deal. Should have been cheaper if the price of U$D was cool. I will advice you go through the auctions. Should help with a lower costing yungboss: that's exactly mine...2000 323ci manual, N1,600,000.00 it may have changed now, contact the guys on the auto forum...contact a dealer, inspired or phemmy may be able to help with the current price, it's coming of age,the e46,so I expect it to be cheaper now.The 2000 model should be lower. Earlier today i saw a 2007 330ci, manual tranny on Copart.com for a buy now price of $8000 Looked too good to be true. But it was! yungboss: that's what you get for choosing to use an e60Is the spare for the E46 also this pricey? Compared to the E90, how much difference do we have? |
Update on my over heating E60 So i eventually got a second opinion on the water pump failure the first diagnosis threw up. A second diagnosis still pointed towards the same thing; failed water pump. So we set to work. Waterpump - N70k, Thermostat - N20k (this is was the scary part, the prices) I mean, 100k in one fell swoop!! I also noticed something i needed to share. We drained the engine for a change and almost 12 liters of oil drained out!!!! ![]() I couldn't place it or figure it out!! A 10 liter container filled out with another 2 liters spilling on the floor. Apparently, the car, was smoking, indicative of an over-filled oil. I was scared. The technician however assured me of no issues. I also noticed bleeding was done with the obd diagnostic tool. How techy!!! I don dey fear this car oo! It is a vehicle that needs close study and getting used. But aside these, very fun to ride. I also notice a mild vibration when speeds get to 130km/h......i figured a wheel balancing will do. Anyone thinks otherwise? Any further suggestions will be appreciated. On another notes, the car got to Abuja this evening! Will be delivered to the owner tomorrow morning! |
izyoku: Am sure there'll be well trained guys from cosharis who own their own small places and possibly relatively equipped places. guys if you've got a bimmer and you are on in here and live in lasgidi and don't have a very well equipped technical shop servicing your bimmer lets spot it out.I can give you the contacts of the guys who diagnosed the E60 in the previous page with a failed water pump. One of them is a former Coscharis staff and the other i can't say but quite good enough. |
baconline: 2 way remote system will solve that problemCan you explain this system please? |
xerotop: @emperoh xerotop: Ur battery is in d trunk on the passenger side.Thank you bros! Your guess where quite on point. There were no oil spills or leaks anywhere. I was able to get a BMW specialist who has a scanner and he initially bled the radiator, yet no improvement so we ran a scan' Threw up this code; 2E85 Electric Coolant Pump, Communication, No Voltage at Emergency The technician says the pump has failed and will need replacement. Also asked that we changed the thermostat alongside. What do you guys think? Again, who knows where i can get genuine BMW parts aside the cut throat price at Coscharis (head they sell it for 150k). Again, any other thing i need to pay attention to? |
Ok guys, here is a knotty issue. Just imported a 2006 BMW 525i with 98k miles on it. Car was cleared and taken out of the port yesterday but kept shooting up overheating. Parked it somewhere safe since we can't tow. This morning, we discovered the radiator hose is pulled. Reattached it and yet it won't solve the problem. We bled the radiator to see if it solves the issue but no shenow. We had to eventually tow it to my place in Festac and then ran a scan. Partner didn't give me any codes as yet but says we need to change thermostat. I suspect it is stuck. But i will need a second scan to confirm what is wrong. However, i suspect two thing. A bad electrical component of the water pump which means changing the water pump or a stuck radiator. A But can anyone guide me on what other likely issues to look at before another scan. Again, where is the battery located? We only saw a terminal in the engine. My suspicion told me it is in the trunk. But i am not there physically and my guy tells me it's not where i suspected it to be. A quick help will do. This is a picture of the car

chucks2013: Can one physically inspect these cars on these 3 auctions or even the ones on auction export.Yes you can. But there are encumbrances. Who will have the time to travel from Texas to NY to examine or assess a car? Who will bear the cost? The pictures on the internet do the trick Or, in the case of Manheim, buy an inspection service to do an inspection on the unit. If the result is unsatisfactory, you can ask for a refund. This is ONLY applicable to MANHEIM! |
realvenc: My oga.. Thanks for the info. What abt Auction Export• Are they in the same category as the ones you mentioned below. I have visited their site and Copart. Auction Export had this buy now button which I think is cool if I find what I want and don't want to be involved in a bid... IMOAuction Export source their cars from the 3 auctions i mentioned above. They are what you call, Market Makers'. Some sort of distributors. You can call me at any time before 10pm. I am not sure i got your sms. Send me a mail if not sure. They are as good as sms as i respond almost immediately/ |
