*TEXT:* 2 SAMUEL 5: 1-5 _*(NKJV)*_

5:1. Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and spoke, saying, "Indeed we [are] your bone and your flesh.
5:2. "Also, in time past, when Saul was king over us, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them in; and the LORD said to you, 'You shall shepherd My people Israel, and be ruler over Israel.' "
5:3. Therefore all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the LORD. And they anointed David king over Israel.
5:4. David [was] thirty years old when he began to reign, [and] he reigned forty years.
5:5. In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah.

*MESSAGE:*

David stayed at Hebron where he received the representatives of all the tribes of Israel who came to present the whole Israel to him and accept him as their new king. He ascended the throne at the age of thirty, after several years from the time he was anointed by Prophet Samuel at Bethel (I Sam. 16:12-13). At Hebron, he reigned over Judah for seven years and six months, while he reigned in Jerusalem for thirty-three years (v.5). David took a bold step to conquer Jerusalem, took it away from the Jebusites and made it the capital city of his reign. He was given nationwide support and ruled over the nation Israel with the full endorsement of the people.

Beloved, you need to understand the fact that the fulfilment of one's mandate in life does not come casually or happen overnight. It takes process for you to come to the point of fulfilment of God's mandate for your life. Note that God does not change his plan and purpose but He can change the means through which He accomplishes them. With God, nothing happens by accident, there is always a preparatory stage for whosoever God determines to lift up to fulfil destiny in life. Like David, what you are experiencing today may be part of the requirements for you to fulfil God's purpose for your life. David had to go through a wilderness experience for him to ascend the throne. You need to be courageous, faithful and focused as you journey into the fulfilment of God's purpose for your life.

Father, give me the grace to be focused and fulfil my purpose in life in Jesus' name. *Amen*

TOPIC: A RENEWED MIND
READ: ROMANS 12:1-8 (NKJV)

12:1. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, [which is] your reasonable service.
12:2. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what [is] that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
12:3. For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think [of himself] more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.
12:4. For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function,
12:5. so we, [being] many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.
12:6. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, [let us use them:] if prophecy, [let us prophesy] in proportion to our faith;
12:7. or ministry, [let us use it] in [our] ministering; he who teaches, in teaching;
12:8. he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

THE MESSAGE:

The mind is a battlefield of life. Jesus says, "... For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man out of his good treasure brings forth good, and evil man out of his evil treasure brings forth evil" (Matthew 12:34-35). In the previous chapters of the book of Romans, Paul engaged his audience with explanation on how God, through His Son, Jesus Christ has shown mercy to those who have repented from their sinful ways. The text today is an advice to believers on how they should live, by renewing their minds and presenting themselves as living and acceptable sacrifices to God. Those who have contracted and embraced the saving grace through Christ ought not to continue with their old mind-set but should live in a way that shows forth God's glory (1 Thessalonians 4:1-2).

Beloved, for you must renew your mind; the first thing is to surrender your life to Jesus Christ, stay true to Him and keep your heart close to Him every day. In addition, you must daily long for God as the deer pants for watery (Psalm 42:1). Develop the habit of seeing things from God's point of view. This will make your faith grow and you will be courageous. The word of God remains a tool for renewing your mind. You need the word of God every day to pull down strongholds, negative thoughts and arguments in your heart. When your heart is occupied with the word of God, your life will definitely produce the fruit of love, giving you a great desire to walk more closely with God and be compassionate towards others. Fill your heart with the word of God and your life will become a reservoir of good treasure, bringing forth fruits of grace and peace.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, create in me the hunger for Your word every day, in Jesus' Name, Amen!

*THEME:* GOD'S WAYS ARE NOT YOUR WAYS

*TEXT:* 2 SAMUEL 4: 9-12 _*(NKJV)*_

4:9. But David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said to them, "[As] the LORD lives, who has redeemed my life from all adversity,
4:10. "When someone told me, saying, 'Look, Saul is dead,' thinking to have brought good news, I arrested him and had him executed in Ziklag -- the one who [thought] I would give him a reward for [his] news.
4:11. "How much more, when wicked men have killed a righteous person in his own house on his bed? Therefore, shall I not now require his blood at your hand and remove you from the earth?"
4:12. So David commanded his young men, and they executed them, cut off their hands and feet, and hanged [them] by the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ishbosheth and buried [it] in the tomb of Abner in Hebron.

*MESSAGE:*

Our text today presents us with the unexpected outcome of the actions of Rechab and Baanah in killing Ishboseth and cutting off his head. Both of them perceived that David had been prepared by God to be king over all Israel. But David was shocked and disappointed that these people could go that length to show their support for him to become king. He considered their action a sin against God. David did not see bloodshed as a proper approach to gaining the throne. When he had an earlier opportunity of murdering Saul, he had held back. He would not kill to seize authority, Rechab and Baanah met the greatest disappointment of their lives as the king sentenced them to death. They thought they were helping David to the throne but ended up losing their own lives. God alone was enough to bring David to the throne in his own way.

Beloved, you are expected to prayerfully watch your actions. No one can help God. He is sufficiently able to do great things for you, without any form of manipulation. What seems right or acceptable before men could be an abomination before the Lord. The counsel of the Lord shall definitely stand. God's ways are not your ways. When you do God's work in line with His Word and leading, you will have peace, fulfilment and joy.
