THE DAILY FOUNTAIN
DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE
CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)
DATE: TUESDAY, DECEMBER 03, 2024
TOPIC: DARE TO BE A DANIEL
READ: DANIEL 6: 16-24B (NKJV)

6:16. So the king gave the command, and they brought Daniel and cast [him] into the den of lions. [But] the king spoke, saying to Daniel, "Your God, whom you serve continually, He will deliver you."
6:17. Then a stone was brought and laid on the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet ring and with the signets of his lords, that the purpose concerning Daniel might not be changed.
6:18. Now the king went to his palace and spent the night fasting; and no musicians were brought before him. Also his sleep went from him.
6:19. Then the king arose very early in the morning and went in haste to the den of lions.
6:20. And when he came to the den, he cried out with a lamenting voice to Daniel. The king spoke, saying to Daniel, "Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?"
6:21. Then Daniel said to the king, "O king, live forever!
6:22. "My God sent His angel and shut the lions' mouths, so that they have not hurt me, because I was found innocent before Him; and also, O king, I have done no wrong before you."
6:23. Then the king was exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no injury whatever was found on him, because he believed in his God.
6:24. And the king gave the command, and they brought those men who had accused Daniel, and they cast [them] into the den of lions -- them, their children, and their wives; and the lions overpowered them, and broke all their bones in pieces before they ever came to the bottom of the den.

THE MESSAGE:

Daniel's loyalty to God in observing his routine prayers led to his being thrown into the lion's den, for daring to please God at the expense of the King's order. There are some occasions when pleasing God becomes paramount irrespective of contrary legislations in place. Daniel damned the consequences of being killed by the king but rather upheld the name of the living God. After being thrown into the lion's den, Daniel came out alive, unhurt, and victorious, because the Lord sent His angel to preserve his life (verse 22).

Today, men and women like Daniel are wanted (those who will uphold the tenets of Scripture and the Christian faith) in the political arena, the church andsociety in general. God takes care of those who diligently and faithfully obey and serve Him like Daniel (cf. Joseph in Genesis 39: 9, 20-22). Pretentious Christian living should be replaced with righteous and faithful living, even in the face of threats and danger. The power to obey God and stand for Him comes from a settled understanding that God is really in control.

PRAYER: O Lord God, I surrender my life, my will and my all to You. Make me a faithful and committed Christian that will champion Your course here on earth in Jesus' name. Amen.

DATE: MONDAY, DECEMBER 02, 2024
TOPIC: DANIEL: THE MAN OF COURAGE
READ: DANIEL 6: 10-15 (NKJV)

6:10. Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days.
6:11. Then these men assembled and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.
6:12. And they went before the king, and spoke concerning the king's decree: "Have you not signed a decree that every man who petitions any god or man within thirty days, except you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions?" The king answered and said, "The thing [is] true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which does not alter."
6:13. So they answered and said before the king, "That Daniel, who is one of the captives from Judah, does not show due regard for you, O king, or for the decree that you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day."
6:14. And the king, when he heard [these] words, was greatly displeased with himself, and set [his] heart on Daniel to deliver him; and he labored till the going down of the sun to deliver him.
6:15. Then these men approached the king, and said to the king, "Know, O king, that [it is] the law of the Medes and Persians that no decree or statute which the king establishes may be changed."

THE MESSAGE:

Christians are confronted with diverse challenges every day, from within and without, including unimaginable conspiracies from among brethren. Often times, these challenges come as a result of one's resolute faith in Christ. In our text, Daniel stood his ground and refused to be intimidated, having known the King's decree was targeted at him. He simply continued his excellent prayer life, at the risk of being killed.

We are living in a time when people have several ways of finding solutions to their problems. Daniel did not think of any other way; he simply turned to God in prayer and God delivered him. Who do you turn to when you face challenges? Are you a man of courage and prayer like Daniel? Determine today to always take your challenges to God in prayer; there is nothing too difficult for God to do. The hymn writer, Joseph Scriven, says:
Have we trials and temptations?
Is there troubles anywhere?
We should never be discouraged,
Take it to the Lord in prayer

PRAYER: Almighty God, the Saviour of the world, hear the petitions of Your children and deliver us from our troubles through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

DATE: SUNDAY, DECEMBER 01, 2024
(Advent Sunday)
TOPIC: THE COMING OF THE MESSIAH
READ: PSALM 122: 1-9 (NKJV)

122:1. A Song of Ascents. Of David. I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go into the house of the LORD."
122:2. Our feet have been standing Within your gates, O Jerusalem!
122:3. Jerusalem is built As a city that is compact together,
122:4. Where the tribes go up, The tribes of the LORD, To the Testimony of Israel, To give thanks to the name of the LORD.
122:5. For thrones are set there for judgment, The thrones of the house of David.
122:6. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: "May they prosper who love you.
122:7. Peace be within your walls, Prosperity within your palaces."
122:8. For the sake of my brethren and companions, I will now say, "Peace [be] within you."
122:9. Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek your good.

THE MESSAGE:

Today is Advent Sunday. In the Christian Church calendar, this is the period of preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ at Christmas and also for the Second Coming of Christ. While waiting for the Second Coming, Christians are encouraged to be prepared to meet the Lord.

In our text, the Psalmist recounts the joy of being in the house of the Lord. The house of the Lord is a place of worship, not a social gathering or business transaction centre. It is a place where lives are moulded, sinners are convicted and saints are strengthened in the faith, in preparation to meet the Lord. As we commence another Advent season, we need to examine our attitude and motives in worship: Are we approaching God in order to receive momentary blessings or do we have eternity in view? Christ's first coming was to save sinners; His Second Coming is to bring judgement on all men. Are you prepared for the coming of the Messiah?

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help me worship You in Spirit and in truth as I await Your Second Coming. Amen.

HAPPY NEW MONTH EVERYONE, MAY GOD'S FACE SHINE ON YOU THIS MONTH, IT SHALL BE FAVOURABLE TO YOU AMEN

THE DAILY FOUNTAIN
DAILY DEVOTIONAL OF THE
CHURCH OF NIGERIA (ANGLICAN COMMUNION)
DATE: THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2024
TOPIC: FINDING FAVOUR WITH GOD AND MAN
READ: DANIEL 6: 1-3 (NKJV)

6 It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom one hundred and twenty satraps, to be over the whole kingdom; 2 and over these, three governors, of whom Daniel was one, that the satraps might give account to them, so that the king would suffer no loss. 3 Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, abecause an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm.

THE MESSAGE:

Daniel had the opportunity of serving under different kings in Babylon. In our text, another government had taken over - the Medes and Persian Dynasty-led by Darius who started his administration by appointing 120 officers to help him administer his kingdom. Daniel was part of it. Darius further appointed three governors of which Daniel was one to oversee the other officers. Because Daniel distinguished himself above the others and 'because an excellent spirit was in him,' Darius was contemplating appointing Daniel over other officers.

Like Daniel, we must be consistent, maintain a good testimony, be prayerful and honest in all we do. One day God will move men to remember you. People like Joseph and David succeeded during their time because of the favour of God and man. When David came into the house of Saul for the first time, King Saul loved him. It was the same for Joseph; he found favour with Portiphar who placed him (a total stranger and slave) in charge of his whole household. Equally, when he was thrown into prison for a crime he never committed, Joseph found favour with the warder who gave him charge over other prisoners; he was prisoner over other prisoners. The same thing played out between him and Pharaoh who handed Joseph the whole economy of Egypt without minding he was not 'an indigene. 'Favour can take you beyond heights you never bargained for. Let us always pray for favour!

PRAYER: Dear Lord, please grant me favour that will take me to greater heights in Jesus' name.
