✝️📖TEXT: Psalm 146: 5-10(NKJV)
146:5. Happy [is he] who [has] the God of Jacob for his help, Whose hope [is] in the LORD his God,
146:6. Who made heaven and earth, The sea, and all that [is] in them; Who keeps truth forever,
146:7. Who executes justice for the oppressed, Who gives food to the hungry. The LORD gives freedom to the prisoners.
146:8. The LORD opens [the eyes of] the blind; The LORD raises those who are bowed down; The LORD loves the righteous.
146:9. The LORD watches over the strangers; He relieves the fatherless and widow; But the way of the wicked He turns upside down.
146:10. The LORD shall reign forever -- Your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the LORD!

✝️📜 STUDY: This is a Psalm of assurance of God's benevolence and blessing. It contains the dividends of making God one's help, hope, blessing or happiness. We are to praise the Lord who created the heavens and the earth, the sky, and sea, and all that is in them, who keeps truth forever, who executes justice for the oppressed, provides food to the oppressed and freedom to the prisoners (vv.6-7). The Psalmist also reiterates that the man that is blessed is he whose help is in the God of Jacob and whose hope is in the Lord his God. In Jeremiah 17: 5-8, the prophet gives us a picture of the blessedness that comes to the man who puts his trust in the Lord, as opposed to the man who makes flesh his confidence. In the face of different challenges that humanity may be going through today, where do you seek help? The Psalmist in 121: 1 says:“I will look up to the hill from whence comes my help, my help comes from God.”People do different things to get help but often times these things lead to disappointment. However, help got from God is a lasting and glorious help. To escape mockery, seek your help from God who is also your hope. May God arise and help us His children in Jesus' Name.

9:1. In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the lineage of the Medes, who was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans --
9:2. in the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of the years [specified] by the word of the LORD through Jeremiah the prophet, that He would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.
9:3. Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.
9:4. And I prayed to the LORD my God, and made confession, and said, "O Lord, great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and mercy with those who love Him, and with those who keep His commandments,
9:5. "we have sinned and committed iniquity, we have done wickedly and rebelled, even by departing from Your precepts and Your judgments.
9:6. "Neither have we heeded Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings and our princes, to our fathers and all the people of the land.
9:7. "O Lord, righteousness [belongs] to You, but to us shame of face, as [it is] this day -- to the men of Judah, to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, those near and those far off in all the countries to which You have driven them, because of the unfaithfulness which they have committed against You.
9:8. "O Lord, to us [belongs] shame of face, to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, because we have sinned against You.
9:9. "To the Lord our God [belong] mercy and forgiveness, though we have rebelled against Him.
9:10. "We have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in His laws, which He set before us by His servants the prophets.
9:11. "Yes, all Israel has transgressed Your law, and has departed so as not to obey Your voice; therefore the curse and the oath written in the Law of Moses the servant of God have been poured out on us, because we have sinned against Him.
9:12. "And He has confirmed His words, which He spoke against us and against our judges who judged us, by bringing upon us a great disaster; for under the whole heaven such has never been done as what has been done to Jerusalem.
9:13. "As [it is] written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come upon us; yet we have not made our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities and understand Your truth.
9:14. "Therefore the LORD has kept the disaster in mind, and brought it upon us; for the LORD our God [is] righteous in all the works which He does, though we have not obeyed His voice.
9:15. "And now, O Lord our God, who brought Your people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and made Yourself a name, as [it is] this day -- we have sinned, we have done wickedly!
9:16. " O Lord, according to all Your righteousness, I pray, let Your anger and Your fury be turned away from Your city Jerusalem, Your holy mountain; because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people [are] a reproach to all [those] around us.
9:17. "Now therefore, our God, hear the prayer of Your servant, and his supplications, and for the Lord's sake cause Your face to shine on Your sanctuary, which is desolate.
9:18. "O my God, incline Your ear and hear; open Your eyes and see our desolations, and the city which is called by Your name; for we do not present our supplications before You because of our righteous deeds, but because of Your great mercies.
9:19. "O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and act! Do not delay for Your own sake, my God, for Your city and Your people are called by Your name."

THE MESSAGE:

When Daniel understood from Scriptures that the Jeremiah's prophesied year of release of Israel from the 70 year Babylonian captivity was approaching, he began to pray on behalf of the people. He started by recognising God as Israel's faithful covenant Lord. He then confessed the nation`s sinful and rebellious conditions and acknowledged that they had been justly punished for their iniquity. But he nevertheless, pleaded for God's forgiveness and restoration. Daniels prayer is a model of intercessory prayer for a nation. He was proactive in seeking the Lord, praying and fasting, repenting and confessing personal and national sin. This is necessary in order to obtain mercy and avert God's wrath and judgement.

Dearly beloved,we should be like Daniel interceding for our land rather than criticisng our leaders and complaining about the ill in the land. We should appeal for God's mercy to turn away His anger. Prayer of intercession averts disaster from individuals and whole communities and turns God face of favour and mercy towards His people.

PRAYER: Lord turn Your wrath and Your judgement away from Your people and show us Your salvation in Jesus' Name. Amen

TOPIC: GOD'S DOMINION OVER THE EARTH
READ: DANIEL 8: 1-12 (NKJV)

8:1. In the third year of the reign of King Belshazzar a vision appeared [to] me -- to me, Daniel -- after the one that appeared to me the first time.
8:2. I saw in the vision, and it so happened while I was looking, that I [was] in Shushan, the citadel, which [is] in the province of Elam; and I saw in the vision that I was by the River Ulai.
8:3. Then I lifted my eyes and saw, and there, standing beside the river, was a ram which had two horns, and the two horns [were] high; but one [was] higher than the other, and the higher [one] came up last.
8:4. I saw the ram pushing westward, northward, and southward, so that no animal could withstand him; nor [was there any] that could deliver from his hand, but he did according to his will and became great.
8:5. And as I was considering, suddenly a male goat came from the west, across the surface of the whole earth, without touching the ground; and the goat [had] a notable horn between his eyes.
8:6. Then he came to the ram that had two horns, which I had seen standing beside the river, and ran at him with furious power.
8:7. And I saw him confronting the ram; he was moved with rage against him, attacked the ram, and broke his two horns. There was no power in the ram to withstand him, but he cast him down to the ground and trampled him; and there was no one that could deliver the ram from his hand.
8:8. Therefore the male goat grew very great; but when he became strong, the large horn was broken, and in place of it four notable ones came up toward the four winds of heaven.
8:9. And out of one of them came a little horn which grew exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the Glorious [Land.]
8:10. And it grew up to the host of heaven; and it cast down [some] of the host and [some] of the stars to the ground, and trampled them.
8:11. He even exalted [himself] as high as the Prince of the host; and by him the daily [sacrifices] were taken away, and the place of His sanctuary was cast down.
8:12. Because of transgression, an army was given over [to the horn] to oppose the daily [sacrifices;] and he cast truth down to the ground. He did [all this] and prospered.

THE MESSAGE:

In today's text, Daniel had a vision of a ram and a Goat. The ram looked terrifying with two horns and made every one afraid. While Daniel was in a confused state, he suddenly saw a goat approaching from the west, crossing the whole earth without touching the ground. None could rescue the ram from the power of the goat. The goat attacked the ram fiercely and shattered its two horns. It is instructive to note that the ram who hitherto stretched to every part of the world (verse 4), had its power curtailed by the goat. No earthly dominion lasts forever.

Child of God, no matter the challenges, troubles and attacks trailing your life, remember God is in charge and will bring to an end, every trouble and concern that agitates your heart. Has your marriage or promotion been delayed? Have you failed an exam? Is your health deteriorating? God is able to restore the loss of the past years (Joel 2.25). When man thinks all hope is lost, God shows Himself strong. Have faith in God and you will see victory achieved in all sphere of your life.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father; release Your grace upon me to rely and depend on You in all spheres of my life in Jesus' Name. Amen.

7:23. "Thus he said: 'The fourth beast shall be A fourth kingdom on earth, Which shall be different from all [other] kingdoms, And shall devour the whole earth, Trample it and break it in pieces.
7:24. The ten horns [are] ten kings [Who] shall arise from this kingdom. And another shall rise after them; He shall be different from the first [ones,] And shall subdue three kings.
7:25. He shall speak [pompous] words against the Most High, Shall persecute the saints of the Most High, And shall intend to change times and law. Then [the saints] shall be given into his hand For a time and times and half a time.
7:26. ' But the court shall be seated, And they shall take away his dominion, To consume and destroy [it] forever.
7:27. Then the kingdom and dominion, And the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven, Shall be given to the people, the saints of the Most High. His kingdom [is] an everlasting kingdom, And all dominions shall serve and obey Him.'

THE MESSAGE:

The interpretation of Daniel's visions about the rise and fall of earthly kingdoms continues in today's text. The fourth beast represents a powerful kingdom that shall conquer the whole earth, profane the name of God and severely persecute the Church. This kingdom shall, however, come to a great ruin at the end of the age. During times of oppression, it may appear the saints are being defeated and that God's kingdom is but wishful thinking. When the sin and oppression of evil men reaches a predetermined point, God will remove them and establish His promised eternal kingdom. By the time the kingdom of God is established, the saints will reign with Christ in eternity.

The words of this vision of the end-time are comforting to believers in the face of the incessant persecution and oppression. The ultimate plan of God shall be fully established and the people of God shall rejoice. It is only those who are in Christ Jesus that will reign with Him in the Kingdom to be revealed. Will you be among them?

PRAYER: O Lord, may Your reign bring peace and justice to our land in Jesus' Name, Amen.

READ: DANIEL 7: 15-22 (NKJV)

7:15. " I, Daniel, was grieved in my spirit within [my] body, and the visions of my head troubled me.
7:16. "I came near to one of those who stood by, and asked him the truth of all this. So he told me and made known to me the interpretation of these things:
7:17. 'Those great beasts, which are four, [are] four kings [which] arise out of the earth.
7:18. 'But the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever.'
7:19. "Then I wished to know the truth about the fourth beast, which was different from all the others, exceedingly dreadful, [with] its teeth of iron and its nails of bronze, [which] devoured, broke in pieces, and trampled the residue with its feet;
7:20. "and the ten horns that [were] on its head, and the other [horn] which came up, before which three fell, namely, that horn which had eyes and a mouth which spoke pompous words, whose appearance [was] greater than his fellows.
7:21. "I was watching; and the same horn was making war against the saints, and prevailing against them,
7:22. "until the Ancient of Days came, and a judgment was made [in favor] of the saints of the Most High, and the time came for the saints to possess the kingdom.

THE MESSAGE:

People perish for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4: 6). Knowledge is the fact of knowing about something; it can be general understanding or familiarity with a subject, place or situation. The ability to know and study what is ambiguous or unclear is synonymous with the quest for knowledge. Daniel had a dream in which he did not know the meaning and interpretation, so he became worried and troubled. In order to know the meaning, he sought for help from his close neighbour and enquired of the truth of the dream. He asked for the meaning of each and every one of the beasts.

Several passages of the bible may not be too clear to understand, except by the help of the Holy Spirit. Christians should endeavour to ask for knowledge to understand what God is speaking per time. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him" (James 1:5). Daniel did not hesitate to ask others for insight and we must not also shy away from asking and studying to know more. We can know more by daily studying the word of God and praying deliberately for understanding (2 Timothy 2:15). May God grant us the understanding to know Him more clearly in Jesus' name.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father; give me the grace to know Your will for me and understand Your purpose for my life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
