Properties / Re: Should I Complete My Mother House Or Build Mine First? I'm In Dillenma Pls Help by engrrichie92(m): 8:59pm On May 15, 2022
Barrister026:
Hello all,

This is difficult situation for me, my mom's house has been left uncompleted since 2014 just the foundation and probably 2couch were placed ontop since then it's been there because she had to send my siblings and I to higher institution. Now am of age, doing quite well for myself. I think am finally ready to build a house, was thinking about getting a land 100 by 50 and raise 5 bedroom flats... but on the other hand that my mom's building had been left uncompleted since it's a family land, relatives are starting to say somethings and sometimes I could see the shame on my mom's face when she goes to her family compound. Almost every months they always call her to come clear it that it has become harbor for snakes and pests. So I thought why don't I just complete it for her first.

The issue here Is immediately I told my fiancee she said it's a good idea but kicked against it. That I should build mine first, before completing my mom's. That it can wait.

I also confided in a friend of mine, he said almost same thing, that my thing is different from our own. Saying am not the only one my mom gave birth to, if I complete it now I should be ready to share it with my siblings no matter what when the time comes.

I'm confused and need advice on the step to take. I would really want to complete that house for my mom I Know it would mean a lot to her..I'm really confused.

One way or the other somebody has to develop it, if I the first son don't do it now that am financially stable. Then my younger bro will do it, trust me it won't make sense that way that's just my fear.

Bro...same dilemma

Solution: build yours first and also build like a separate small flat for your Mom within your own building
That way she has her own dedicated space

Once you are done with that and money still dey...you can do family own because trust me the house will be for the family and not even your Mom's

My dad made thesame mistake...and he was killed for a house he built with his own money

A word they say...

Young bro. I wish you all the best. You are a fellow Nigerian and it looks like you are booksmart so I hope you can make the most of your intelligence. You are into Cybersecurity and IT auditing, good choice. Good luck in your initial telpehone interview and please share your tips with others on Nairaland. Someone must have told you about CISA so pass on the knowledge. the sky is big enough for every bird to fly.

All the best my yute! Peace, I'm out.

Tech bro you are still lying! grin. Dont worry I also dream about winning the lottery. Only thing is I dont start a thread on Nairaland claiming I have won the lottery.

Blow your cover? So the whole world will know who you are if you simply tell us you are a Salesforce architect, React developer e.t.c? You should have been more discreet when you posted on Nairaland about your MI5 cybersecurity job.

Attached is the calculation of the net pay of a employee earning £80,000/annum working for the NHS.

Tech bro needs help from Nairalanders to decide between N60 million (£80,000) in the UK vs N24 million (£30,000) in Nigeria

Brother Papillo, I am not surprised; I expected people like you when I opened the thread
but then again, I don't have to prove anything to you or anyone else really

If you think it is a lie, It is fine

While you are still doubting, I just got an interview invite some 1 hour ago for a US remote job of about 120K USD with other perks (attached) which I am madly excited about already by the way

In your world; things like this may not be possible and I completely understand

Just to also mention; as much as I needed insights especially from people already in UK on this matter (which I have already gotten); a part of this post was also to ignite people's interest in Tech and see the limitless possibilities in the tech space
A lot of people here don't have this information and they need to...

A post like this can actually set someone on the right path; all everyone needs is just the right information and motivation
So I rest my case; and this is the last time I will reply you

Happy doubting sire!

Hmmm now I see your point clearer. So the issue is not the money, it’s whether or not OP has some rare specialist skill set in high demand. Oya OP over to you come and answer. But I actually know someone who was poached from Nigeria to Munich and he earns top pay. He was a full stack engineer. I think he was even largely self-taught then he worked with Konga for a while before getting this role. So it might be a different kettle of fish for the tech industry. OP come and answer your question. What’s your speciality?

Lol
There is no point

He's someone that thinks he knows yet grossly misinformed ...the fact that he thinks 4K monthly income amounts to 80/90 pounds gross is a testament to why I will not even take him serious

And I'm not at liberty to prove anything to anyone in a faceless forum
A simple declaration of my specialty can blow my cover here hence the term "tech bro"

If he or anyone else thinks this is a lie...it's okay

What is preposterous about knowing the after tax amount? I do not get that ?

So you would start working without knowing that?
That is preposterous

Bros,
there are sites you can use to compute your monthly income from your gross

and even if that is not correct, you can ask people working there already

From this thread alone, some mathematician can already guess the gross(mostly incorrect guesses though)
why cant you use thesame maths to compute the net

Somethings are not so hard ...haba

You missed the point. After all his bills he'll still have 2k at the end of the month saved up. Which is equivalent to the 1.5 he is earning now. The 1.5 doesn't see the month end complete.

I will comment for the benefit of those who might want to learn from let's say this hypothetical situation
BTW, Ive been in the UK for 24 years, 16 of those in the tech industry and I run a tech company
1. it is not likely but also not impossible that you will get a £4000 after tax offer from Nigeria. I employ people and I am a voice in that industry in the UK
2. If you were to get even £2500 net(that is a salary of £40,000 gross) you would be better off than what you earn in Nigeria why?
a. You discount the fact that your partner(future or present) would also come into play. Make that £2500 times 2 so family income increases
to nearly two times your earlier estimation whilst the rent/mortgage is constant or marginally increases. Housing is the only monster responsible for 45% of expenses in the UK. That may not apply in Nigeria due
to scarce opportunities. My mrs actually picks up 30% to 40% of our expenses and "im a big boy " lol
b. UK favours people with Children so that would come into play
c. If you are good, eventually you could be earning £600 to £700 times two per day- yeah £1400 per day - as a contractor. Yes a lot of people are holding two contracts at that rate. The question is how much more can your current income grow in Nigeria
d. A UK passport likely awaits you. Being a nanny state, you will be looked after - cradle to grave
e. UK is not that expensive. It is a lie. A 3 bedroom house in say Dagenham(£1400 per month) which is only 45 minutes from
Central London on the tube, is nearly comparable to one in Lekki. Food is very cheap in the UK and yeah, your healthcare is insured
f. You are not barred from ever going back to Nigeria just because you went to UK but the opportunity for UK is likely to dry up after the
people who left because of Brexit have been replaced. UK is deliberately letting people in
g. Your UK headroom is much higher so to say
h. I will also argue that to get similar standard of living in Nigeria(good school for kids, security. healthcare, travels etc) you will spend much
more for what is a commonwealth in the UK. Trust me. I have friends who used to do big boy to me then, biting their lips now, desperate
to get out in their 40s
i. If you lose your job in the UK, two weeks later you get another. In Nigeria I know many people that never recovered till death
j. In nearly all cases, it is good to experience the west. It gives you that balanced understanding of life
k. This highly under-estimated point -> your children start earning and investing from 16 to 18 in the UK. Make that 30 to 35 in Nigeria on
average. This bit is what kills people in Nigeria. Most people's earnings start to go down in their 50s as they slow down
So here you have it

Thank youuuu sire...

It's so sad when I hear and read of teenagers going into rituals and Internet fraud simply because they are grossly misinformed about the power of education and information

If Yahoo boys can flaunt their ill gotten wealth to attract young minds...why can't we also expose these minds to the limitless possibilities in the tech space

I'm still a boy in the midst of tech earners actually ..so you can imagine

Hi if it is true you have the 4000 pounds offer, this is my honest opinion as I presently stay in the UK( outside London) and left a 7digit salary to come here too.
Firstly pray and get GOD's leading and if that is done, 4000pounds is more than enough for you. my own expenses are below:
House rent - 742
Council tax - 130
Gas - 30 Standard meaning you can put on anything when and how you want.
Electricity - 45
TV Licensing - 159
Feeding for 4 - 300 max
transport - 120 0r less, because I work from home.

Total = 1,526

As long as you are cool headed and also I just got a car so transport will become easier for my and my family but I have also paid insurance and tax for it ( insurance is expensive because we are still going to be using international passport to drive for now is 200 including tax.

Your 4000pounds is worth much more than your N1,500.000.

Thank you for this Insight

I really appreciate

The first reaction of a lot of people will be for you to just go. First of all, accommodation is expensive, then other bills, even worse if you have a family. My opinion is if you could get this then you're good enough to get a better one. 1.5M in Nigeria will do more for you than 4K pounds in the Uk.
A lot of Nigerians are misinformed or clouded by situations that they feel relocating means their lives have changed.
If you decide to go, it should come from a place of strategy that is if it will help your career and not just for survival.

"A place of strategy"....very well noted

I don't know what IT niche you are but if they could go the extra mile to bring you over, it means you are in-demand niche. The one year is to ensure you have the necessary UK experience and familiarise yourself with the terrain so you can move one easily. It is a good offer.

Abandoning everything you know and a life envied by most for a country where you have no family or friends is not an easy thing to do. £4000 monthly for a tech bro? See, the pay is ridiculous! From where I'm standing, I'd say don't take it because suffering awaits in full glare. Nigeria is cheap, I'll tell you that and N1.5 million is decent not to pressure you. Bills would make that money look like modern slavery save you plan on becoming a minimalist and by that, I mean, deny yourself of basic privileges.

If you are unmarried, then by all means consider it and look for a healthworker to compliment your salary then give your kids a fighting chance by handing them UK citizenship. Other than that, run.

My guy, most of the people giving advice on this issue are ignorant of situations of things in UK. 4k pound at the exchange rate of 750naira is equivalent to 3m. That is times 2 of your salary in nigeria.

Let talk of cost of living in UK. If you are not living in London, you can get 2 bedrooms flat for 700 to 800 per month. Go to zoopla.co.uk to confirm this. Other bills including council tax and food should be around 500 to 700 depending on the size of your family. If you are using a car, you should be ready to pay more bills.
With this analysis, you can save as much as 2k from your 4k earning. That is equal to your 1.5M in Nigeria.
Remember you have access to best free health service, better security, good and free education for your children. Constant Water, gas and light supply and better opportunities in life over there.
I think you can understand me brother.

These are the kinda analysis I was hoping to see
