tete7000: To say someone is doing better means you are doing a comparison. You look at where they are, and compare to where they were coming from. Bro.,there have been Nigerians doing excellently well, earning and living well who have abandoned everything to start all over abroad. I know of someone who worked in a multinational, living well and can travel anywhere, anytime but woke up, sold all and relocated abroad. I have been asking what else can he be looking for? How soon can he get the job he left and attain the position he vacated? Correct, for that guy who worked in multinational to pack up, list of what he could benefits are as follows 1st class healthcare Security His kids gets a good life good roads Ability to travel ad become a citizen of a great nation Earn far more money. I will give you an example, I got a classmate I went to Uni with back in the days i n west London, he works for texaco Overseas, I got another one who works for Texaco Nigeria., My guy who works for Texaco overseas earns more than the guys who are domicile in Nigeria even thought they work both in Nigeria and same platform.£ is still 900.Guys who earn £3000 take home are on a £50k annual salary. There are people who have left and are not faring better where they currently relocated to. I think this applies to those who have not legalised their documents. If you are in a position to say people abroad are not doing that well then you must have at least N40M in your bank b4 you can make such assumption. What I can agree with you here is tis and simple. Do not think there is automatic money here, you must graft it.You work for your money then this is the best one, We all have equal opportunity at the start! For every profession you do in Nigeria if you do them abroad your life will be definitely better. IyaTola: WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A TEACHER IN THE UK?
Being a teacher in the UK is a horrible experience — it is a taste of hell. I was a teacher in Zimbabwe for over 10 years.
I loved my work; I remember assemblies where children would greet us in chorus. I was proud to be a teacher.
Our students would salute and greet us on the streets, showing us respect. A misbehaving pupil would hide, show remorse on being found out.
The day I left for the UK, I was excited and convinced that I would make an impact as a teacher in the land of the Queen.
According to Mhofu from Luton, teaching in the UK is no walk in the park. Mhofu: “You know, if it wasn’t for teaching, I probably wouldn’t have travelled as much as I did. It was the teaching that got me around the world. But here in the UK, I got a rude awakening.
I got a teaching job at a school in Luton which was touted to be one of the best schools. I was grateful and overjoyed. On my first day in class the children looked at me as if they were seeing a ghost. One child raised his hand and said to me: ‘Are you an idiot’. I was shocked; I was a teacher.
I looked at the child and wanted to hit him but I had been warned never to touch a child or I would die in prison. I pretended I had not heard the child then I heard another say: ‘Hey, are you deaf?’ I was so angry and I walked out to make a complaint to the teacher-in -charge. As I stepped out, the classroom broke into uncontrollable laughter. I had never been insulted by a child and let alone a white one. I was so angry l started shaking.
I walked into the teacher-in-charge’s office. He looked at me and said go and control your class first. I walked back in the class and everything that followed made me sick to my gut. I just had to leave the classroom as l did not trust myself not to take my typical ‘teacher action’ against these wayward children. I went home.
I got a call from the school which informed me that I had been fired because I had no confidence and skills of dealing with children. I then got another job as a teacher. This time, I was called a ‘supply teacher’ who is equivalent to a temporary teacher. The only difference is a supply teacher is a qualified teacher.
I arrived at the school, this time determined to bring some order. As I walked into the classroom, I saw, on the green board, an offensive statement. It was a question: ‘What’s the difference between a monkey and a blackman?’
Just below it was an answer: ‘At least a monkey can climb trees.’ When I asked who wrote that in a very angry voice, the class remained silent.
I turned to the board to rub the offending statement. When I was done and turned to the class, I saw my bag fly out of the window. I got angry and shouted at the class. The head-teacher and a few other teachers rushed to the class. The pupils all rushed to one corner and on seeing the headmaster, they started screaming.
The headmaster, in front of the children told me I was intimidating the kids and making the learning environment a war zone. I told him they had thrown my bag out of the window and had written racist remarks on the board.
The head-teacher said he could see nothing on the board and the kids shouted that they had thrown it out after I had tried to hit them with it. I was asked to go home and reflect on my teaching skills.
The classroom is controlled by children; you must do what they want and you must not dictate to them. The head takes the word of the child against yours. Now I am working towards extracting myself from a career I was passionate about and I ask myself why?
Those who are thinking of teaching here must brace themselves for a torrid time.” According to Paul Taruvinga: I had my interview with a teaching agency in the UK before I finished University.
I was accepted and so when I arrived in London in 2003 on my UK working holiday visa, I was ready to start my teaching career in Hackney, East London, an area I was soon to discover to be one of London’s most challenging.
I wasn’t quite ready to settle into a full time job so I went straight for the supply (casual, substitute) teaching. This meant I was running all over the East End, going to different schools every day. It was a great way for me to get to know the city.
It was also a fantastic way for me to learn how to be an adaptable teacher – different students, different classes every day.
One day I was called to the headmaster’s office; I was informed that a child had complained that I speak so loud that the child is now having sleepless nights. I was asked to lower my voice or I would be sued if the child went deaf.
I am not a loud speaker; I was shocked. I could not answer. Then one day I was accused of sexual abuse. I was alleged to have touched a girl-child on the shoulder. I was told any form of touching was abuse. I was suspended.
After three months of no pay, I was reinstated. I now hate teaching with a passion.”
John Dickson: “l was reprimanded for calling a child ‘my son’. When I came to school the following day there was a fuming parent who said to me: ‘Hey, my son has a father at this school now!’
I said I didn’t know about that and then she accused me of calling him ‘my son’ the previous day in class. I went numb.
She went to the head and I was seriously admonished.” The culture here is so strange. There is nothing like stopping students from throwing chairs at each other. The schools here are a complete opposite of the schools back home. Teaching is a nightmare here. It is the most stressful job in the UK.
Copied! Means receiving Insults and derogatory remarks from kids and teenagers and being unable to do something about being reprimanded if you physically do something about it. |

VGlobal: WORKING & LIVING WITH NIGERIANS ABROAD
Being a Ghanaian, I’ve had this bad impression about Nigerians. I grew up in Ghana thinking Nigerians were negative energies around anyone. I was literally brainwashed mostly by the media to see Nigerians as thieves, murderers, scammers, etc. But after 6 years of working and associating with Nigerians outside of Ghana, the following are what I’ve found and discovered about them. I’m writing this not because my best friend back in the UK is a Nigerian, and not because my senior manager and team lead at my present employer are Nigerians. This is my honest observation!
Arguably, if you put the average Ghanaian and a Nigerian under the same conditions and environment, the Nigerian would undoubtedly outperform the Ghanaian. They are bold, smart and have this relentless quest and effort for learning and perfecting their craft. What a Nigerian cannot do does not exist. I started a DevOps Engineering program for a career alternative and Nigerians especially their women from different career fields constitute about 60% of the class. I was scared to take this step—to move from risk management to pure IT but I was shocked to see Nigerians in nursing, HR, journalism, sales, etc here in Canada taking on the challenge. I quickly reached out to most of my Ghanaian friends but none seem to be interested. This is a fortune field in IT….and when I asked these Nigerians why many of them are here, they told me “this is the surest way to make money by doing less”. Truth is, if you’re starting anything abroad and there’s no Nigerian in it, just know that that thing has no promise . A Nigerian wouldn’t attempt what doesn’t bring any monetary gain or value to them!
I’ve noticed that a Nigerian wouldn’t lie to you unless they’re scared of you or stand to gain something exceedingly beneficial from doing so. This confirms why the most genuine and honest folks I’ve ever associated with outside of Ghana are Nigerians. When a Nigerian is sharing an opportunity with you, they disclose everything dito-dito. They withhold nothing—they tell you as it is. My people would give you a half information and still be all over the place saying that they’ve helped you. You have no idea how many Ghanaians have made themselves demi-gods out here because they’ve been here for ages and feel everything must be ran through them. If you don’t go their way, you’re a target for gossip!
A Nigerian sees an opportunity in every situation, and it cuts across. They’re mostly interested in building a sustainable business than for a quick profit. This explains why wherever there are both Ghanaian and Nigerian traders, the Nigerian merchandise would cost less than the Ghanaian—even if they have the same suppliers. I see that here in Calgary at the various African markets.
Show me any work environment or office without a Nigerian and I’ll show you a work that’s less fulfilling and rewarding. The energy around Nigerians is positive and motivating. Nothing scares them than failure so they work hard for success because success is greatly celebrated in their culture. Where I come from, if you’re making any progress, there’s 100% chance you’ll lose 99% of your friends—they’ll spread lies about you out of dislike. Some would also attribute your progress to things other than your personal efforts. “You see that girl, she’s being chopped by so so and so person. You see that guy, he’s an occult. You see that guy, he’s rushing in life. Etc”. Your own family would turn themselves into avowed enemies—praying to see you fail so that they’ll use you as a bad example like “you see that guy, he was rushing in life but see how he’s crushed like a fragile glass.” My people have a long way to go. They must know that it’s okay for anyone irrespective of age to be great at what they do. In fact, people can build a fortune at age 40 or less through genuine means. Let’s inhale some positivity!
We glorify timidity, ignorance and sycophancy as signs of humility but Nigerians encourage boldness, assertiveness and being daring. If there’s a Nigerian in your trade or profession, get closer, you’ll learn a lot from them. I’ve learned a lot from my association with them and I’m always grateful for having one as my direct supervisor at work!
~The End~ By Jay Kwashie If you are a Ghanaian and you posted this, i give it to you, You are a true patriot. I only which us Nigerians would swallow our pride sometimes and build on this. These truly ar a true reflections of Nigerians abroad especialy the Uk and US! |

Car Talk / Re: How Reliable Are BMW Cars? by erico2k2(m): 7:44pm On Apr 17, 2007 Right guys, this in reply to what lordimpaq said, first and formost, I like to correct you about MPG, it simply menas Miles Per Gallon so the MPG is a mesure of how much fuel you cosume as you acelerate in your travel. Secondly when you say BMW328, this simply mean searies and fuel capacitey, in the BMW 328, 3 stands for the series, 28 is the engine fuel capacity, so it means the engine's full fuel capacity in one circle is 2.8 litre, now your MPG is meant to be lower when you are driving at minimum force, ie going down a slope,I won a BMW325TDS 3 series, turbo Diesel, this car is Auto and it switch betwen turbo and economy drive so I have left the suspension setting to sport as it sute Nigerian roads.so guys look at the back of cars an check the last two digits on the model, that the fuel consumption so a 1.4 engine will do you good, but smaller engines are more expensive as the a more fuel efficient and for those of you who said BMW consume more fuel, there is a BMW£!^, thats a 1.6 ltre engine so its cool, SO I can tell you that a BMW316 is more fuel efficient than a Honda2.6 ok any question ask, I will explain more. I know of a friend of mine who joined them a few years ago, but I haven't heard from him ever since. It's either he is living large in France, or he was killed when they deployed to Afghan. No pain, no gain! bro Claremont and your foreign legion stuff again, kai! dont you have pity for the fools who join this nightmare called foreign legion?! i'd rather these deluded brothas marry the ugliest most repulsive gal they found in Italy etc than go risk their lives in the foreign legion. thats is certainly NOT a walk in the park, as only the strongest make it with their sanity intact. I agree, most Nigerians I have met would rather marry a repulsive grandmother for papers rather than join the FFL, but it doesn't take away the fact that the FFL is a very good fighting unit. If I was living illegally in France and the FFL provided me an opportunity to join, get paid and get a French passport after 5 years, I will join them. I prefer joining them to engaging in a sham marriage. Regarding your point about ''have pity for fools who join'', there is no difference between a Nigerian who joins the FFL and a Nigerian who chooses to join the US Army or British Army. The FFL doesn't exploit recruits any more than the US Army or British Army. Anyone who joins any of them will likely be deployed someday in a combat zone, joining the FFL isn't riskier than joining the US Army or British Army. The reason I keep on bringing this up on threads relating to illegal immigrants living in Europe is because I believe the FFL IS an option to be legal. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's an option. Joining any Army anywhere in the world isn't everyone's cup of tea, but people living illegally in Europe lack options. Nigerians are still joining the British Army and there are Nigerians in the US Army/Marines, they are not different from Nigerians who choose to join the FFL. One thing that stands the FFL out from the others is that no one needs a visa to join. I'm beginning to sound like an FFL recruiter! grin (Quote) (Report) 1 Like (Like) (Share) Source https://www.nairaland.com/4036341/ |

Aboguede: Just like u know, u are just imagining.
Did also read the so called post that it is my 1 and only? You are talking from a protective point while I am on a open and educative view.
I believe that it good for people like us who have had the chance to see te world to help our fellow country men and women with the simple knowledge and informations that they need in order to make an informed decisions about travel. The way we Nigerians hide truth about Western world, one would wonder if we have any interest to protect about that location.
I was in Switzerland 3months ago and the story is just the same. Misery for countless Africans, hard to speak agonies for mejority of them. Not to talk of Germany, that one na 'don't ask don't tell' abi na itay or france then u will see original shithole and then Spain is a no go area.
Look oga I dont think that any sane Nigerian can say bad things about Nigeria after staying in Europe and seeing African over there for at hand. No way, Nigeria is better than Europe for Nigerians and no shame to say the truth.
I saw one of my community brother who spent over 4 million naira/ his last kobo to come to Germany early this year leaving his new wife and old mother behind and before I left Germany he was 50% out of good sanity. Another was there and he has been in Europe since 18 years but yet to find any thing and the stories are endless. You need to go around and see ur brothers there, the tears in ur eyes will finish and this people are not drug addicts nor drunkereds but there surname has become misery.
Anyways, every aboki with em kettle but Las Las Nigeria is not as bad as people paint it but misinformation and fake news from idiots like nnamdi kanu and ekpen has killed so many. Mind u I am igbo Im not imaginig things, you was requesting for persons on here to help you trully yourself from ITALY to France, someone even suggest foreign legion for you.You even confessed that you was Hungry and No joibs in Italy, nut you want to come on here to slander others even calling people ass wiper when that job is waht you even craived for an cannot get .Listen young man, better SHARRAAAAAP and lick you wounds and go to bed or else Im gonna let all ur shyte bare on here! PS: I see you want to be all deplomatic and use softened words insted, too late, we love vowllence here, ask my comrades! |

fykes: Oh no I don't...I am Swizz schooled. Lived in Austria and trust me UK is better than Europe. Maybe US, But Im even speaking from a minimum wage point of view which I know must Nigerians start from. Like every other places, There are cheap houses in London if only you know where to look. Have you considered people renting council houses? Most people jump on the bandwagon and say things without having any sort of street awareness of the localities abroad. As at when I was in minimum wage, I my rent was only a quarter of my monthly earning and if you ain't saving /investing to leave the minimum wage (which is so much easier in London than in Nigeria) then you don't belong here. Yep I agree with you, people just assume and spread hearsay. imagine someone saying a single person will spend £100 to feed, is he feeding his whole village ahah. Another one thinks everyone does care and clean the backsides of older men, they 4got we are Doctors Engineers. Lawyers and scientist lust construction workers too. Every Nigerian I went to Uni with back in the early 2000s are all professionals we all band 8 and above. I think the planned systematic racism in the Eu plays a long way in not allowing Africans reach our full potential, and if thats all you k now you are stuck in that circle, unless one becomes higly favoured. |
